Greek Parliament Preparing Evacuation Tunnel Ahead Of Wednesday Vote On IMF Bailout, General Strike And Parliamentary Blockade

Tyler Durden's picture

June 15, the day of a general strike in Greece, is also the day when the critical "mid-term agreement" between the insolvent country and the Troica will be voted on by the general assembly. "The agreement includes tax increases, slashing of
wages and pensions and the lay-off of approximately more 100,000 civil
servants in the next few years." Already the blog Occupied London has called for a blockade of the Athens parliament: "Last night (June 11th) the popular assembly of Syntagma square
announced a call to blockade the Greek parliament ahead of the voting of
the so-called Mid-term agreement between the Greek government and the
troika (IMF/ECB/EU). The call-out for the blockade below is one of the most important acts
we have seen by the Syntagma assembly so far. June 15th is gearing up
to become a historical day in Greece, a crucial chance to block off the
charge-ahead of neoliberalism here. Don’t be a spectator to this – translate and disseminate the text
below; organise a gathering where you are, or come join us at Syntagma.
This is the struggle for and of our lives.
" Needless to say, should the vote pass, and should the Parliament be blockaded, which it will be, the chances of politicians to leave general assembly unscathed may be compromised. Which is why we were not surprised to learn, courtesy of Covering Delta, that the Greek parliament has hired foreign workers to clean out the underground tunnel which leads from the parliament to the port of Piraeus (soon to be privatized) in order to avoid what some fear may be the popular lynchings of MPs by the disgruntled masses.

From Covering Delta:

I just became aware of this report from Kontra channel here in Greece. Apparently, a tunnel that leads from Lykavitos to the Greek parliament, and from there to the sea port of Piraeus, is being cleaned out by foreign workers in preparation for the possible evacuation of Greek MP’s in the event of a storming of parliament ahead of wednesday’s vote on the new memorandum.

The situation here is getting completely out of control. I really don’t know how much longer the people will be willing to wait this thing out. The mood here in Athens is one of intense disillusionment with a government that seems increasingly detached from its own people.

In the spirit of 2011 being a (slightly delayed) carbon copy of 2010, what May 6th was  to 2010, June 15 just may end up being for 2011. The vote is expected to come in the late morning on Wednesday EDT, so there will be enough time to observe the market's reaction should violence return to Athens.

Friedrich Hayek's 'The Road to Serfdom' in 5 Minutes

Within my inner circle of friends, we often laugh about the DHS reporting a new attempted terrorist plot. The joke is that they found a softback version of 'The Road to Serfdom' in a back pack or duffle bag.

They must be really concerned about providing jobs to Greeks when they hire foreigners every chance they get.  At least, here in the USA, congress would have sold the contract to clean the tunnels to a DOMESTIC company that agreed to provide kickback campaign funds to the head of the cleaning tunnel committee(I am guessing they probably have a committee on that, too).

Well, the US would have taken the rights to clean the tunnel public using WS banks.  Then, a hedge fund could have LBO'd it back to the banks.  Which in turn, the WS banks would have repo'd it to the Fed.  The circle would then be complete.

The other big problem of Greece nowadays, illegal immigration.

When in a population of 6 million active workmanship, the government imports 2 million foreigners, also promising to grant them the greek citizenship after 3 or 4 years, when these people do not speak the language, when they come from a totally different culture and environment, not compatible with the greek culture and religion, huge tenses emerge .
And here comes the dramatical reduction of the wages of the natives because of this illegal immigration.

PRACTICALLY, THIS GOVERNMENT IS BLACKMAILING THE GREEK PEOPLE HAVING AN ARMY OF FOREIGN WORKERS READY TO OCCUPY THE GREEK JOBS.

This government is HOSTILE WITH THE GREEK PEOPLE. We are talking about a "soft genocide" here.

They couldn't have hired greek workers for this job, because they would "speak" and because they are a little bit more expensive for the moment.

My concern is only to hold Greece in the EU until June 2013 when Croatia officially joins.

The Croats are not as lazy as the Greek.

As far as GDP replacement within the EU goes.. there are lots of opportunities ahead.

Problem for the US is that there is no room for expansion.

How many countries would voluntarily join the US and adopt the USD?

They endured and continued despite the overwhelming odds in hope that their children would one day be able to holds their heads high as free people.

You probably soil your pants when your computer makes a noise you weren't expecting you worthless, gutless, spineless excuse for a human being.  You wouldn't be able to endure 1 day of what they have endured for generations. Your iphone, ipad and facebook will set you free dumbas$.

Look at the context of my comment you moron.  I am replying to a comment that stated that all Greeks are Turks.

In the past, Greek people did have to endure countless hardships in order to preserve their identity. Black slaves from Africa did have to endure countless generations of extremely poor  conditions.

The fact that foreigners from poor countries have now been brought to Greece purposely to dilute the national character is an entirely different story.  You appear to be incapable of grasping the difference......

Ok then.... you are Turkish.  Happy now?

Just like the people of all countries in the world.

I suggest you should research the amounts not only the Albanians, but also all other immigrants in Greece, send to their countries (before crisis)

The new Albania is built on greek money (besides other activities too...) the Albanians earned in Greece 20 years now

These are billions per year.

The Albanian workers in Greece have established a good status, they have bought homes on loans and now they're facing lots of problems.

They are also expensive, before the crisis you could not find an Albanian for less than 70 euro per day.

video of Prof. Dimitri Kazakis speaking in Syntagma Sq. (he is Prof. in Finance Studies) explaining the "GREEK ISSUE".

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uCje_A8lyBA&feature=player_embedded#at=77

Translation (not machine, free)

    * Τhe Greek people have no other choice, than to overthrow the Second Austerity Plan - the Loan Contract - Memorandum 2, which, if applied, establishes a law also for all the other countries of the world to introduce such a Bankster Slavery. This is why the IMF and all the cooperating institutions and organizations push Greece so hard to adopt it.
    * By overthrawing the Memorandum 2, the perpetuum debt circle brakes.
    * The Greek Debt must be announced as AN ODIOUS DEBT
    * Greece is now like the small bird in the tunnel which stops singing and dies because of lack of air, thus warning the men in the tunnel not to go further into it
(DOMINO EFFECT).
    * GREECE'S HISTORY SINCE IT BECAME A STATE (AFTER THE GREEK NATIONAL REVOLUTION AGAINST OTTOMANS 1821) IS A HISTORY OF PERPETUAL DEBT AND WARS BECAUSE OF THIS PERPETUAL DEBT, ALWAYS TO FOREIGN OCCUPANTS.
    * In 1964 the Debt of 1898 was paid off.
    * The First Memorandum of 2010 was imposed to pay off a bond of 1984-1987.
    * Only a War can destroy an economy like the Memorandum 1 destroyed the greek economy.
    * The Banksters and the Corporatocracy want the "yard" but not the 11 million people living on it ...
    * If Greece accepts the Memorandum 2 it will be the Somalia of Europe.
    * The Germans never paid for the gold and the loan they have stolen from the Greek government during WW II.

They all had their hands in the cookie jar. Mommy can't keep baking cookies for free, the politicians can't keep handing them out for free and the children can't keep eating them for free.

agree with taraxias above. Besides hell imposed internaly and externaly on poor greeks, there might just be a slightly bigger "challenge" imposed by NWO.

Wonder who has the biggest military budget in EU for years now?

Don't go any further... the same Greece loted by corupt politicians, banksters, GS etc!

Having in mind that Turkey tries to play hard ball, resists all external pressures well, has a heroic president & VIP position etc ...... are we going to see new bloodshed in case NWO actions loose steam in MENA?

Ah, the greek military ! They ordered german "Leopard 2" tanks and - guess what - never paid for them. They claimed there were malfunctions with the aircondition of those tanks.

Since I do work in the defense industry and DO KNOW the facts 1st hand... Guess what...

You have absolutely no idea what you are talking about! Especially when military-anything from Germany is concerned. Including the Leopards.

Sincerely, the idiot that PAID for Leopards with a 95% (!!!) structural failure rate in the turrets and main gun.

Wow ! You mean the Germans tricked the Greeks with faulty tanks ?!

(or is it sort of a stealth peace initiative by the German govt, or Turkish immigrants doin undercover sabotage in the german defense industry ?)

Do you know weather they paid for these German submarines, already ?

(hopefully, them subs aren´t "dive-only" models)

Normally I would not respond to this because it would need pages and pages to bring you to any level of knowledge necessary for intelligent conversation. Just once though...

1. I mean the Leopards we bought, PAID for and had delivered, presented some unusual traits.

First:

http://img84.imageshack.us/img84/1466/strv122033bk3.gif

What you are seeing is a slight design oversight in all turret armour that would guarantee anyone in there would get killed in any confrontation. This was acknowledged and fixed retroactively by the manufacturer without arguments.

2. After that, a nice trend developed (this is 2009 info so it is old already): 27 of 146 Leopardws developed CRACKS on the rings that hold the turret on the tank. This is still not resolved because it is happening in every single one of them and it is a major fault. K-M said here something like "we will look into it but in the meantime, the turrets do turn, don't they? Where is the problem?"

The problem is that shooting the main gun on a turret supported by cracked rings is a rather iffy proposition!

3. And about this gun... it seems that there is some isue with the treatment inside it that allows it to display some visible signs of corrosion! "We will look into it but it is probazbly the sub-contractor's fault, not ours".But this is Item #3 and we are way past your education.

As for the SUBMARINE (singular, NOT plural).

The major issue in the "contract" our then Minister signed was that the manufacturer got 70 of the total cost UP FRONT. Total cost for FOUR submarines. 70% as a down payment! Well, we actually have already received the ONE that is by now well known as the "troublesome one that was fixed"! I will not venture into details of the situation but you may as well look it up, it is public information.

Greece paid a DOWN PAYMENT equal to 70% of the entire contract!!!Back in 2001 !!! It is 2011 and we do have ONE of the four that were in the order. Now, what else would you like to know about "submarine payments"?

Any clever comments?

Put some Greek people to work designing and manufacturing their own weapon systems!  Or buy from someone besides the Germans!  Plenty of options:  France, UK, US, Israel, even China might be a more reliable source than what you present regarding these German products.

Speaking of carbon copies-- we are not in a situation that is too different from previous world wars-- the only difference being of course is how the war is played. People all over the world are having to fight an enemy that have become the very government and state they find themselves in.  The enemy of course is easy to spot-- like any central banker or official from an institution that seeks to perpetuate the slavery of debt and economic genocidal policies the obvious villains present themselves with their remarks, commentary, and blatant disregard for the masses.

Every man, woman, and child will have to face their enemy or otherwise succumb to the slavery of masters that seek to extract every bit of livelihood and crush any hope for a better life. Mass graves of people who have lost individual right and the abillity to pursue prosperity will be covered up with the aid of MSM and government stats that only serve to hide and distort the truth: there is no global recovery, policymakers are looking to benefit their crony capitalists circles and split the spoils of raping, pillaging and plundering the taxpayer, and perpetuating an unworthy system where winners and losers are not chosen on merit, but on how much one is willing to sell their soul.
