And no, I've not read the Jungle, but will try and get my hands on it. One visit to The Farm Sanctuary (farmsanctuary.org) in person will do that for you.

Thanks!  Good to be here.

By the by, do you have any recommendations of books (in English, if you please...) on the Brahmin vedic?

It was actually your site that got me thinking about a lot of things lately, like how J. Robert Oppenheimer was asked if the Alamogordo test was the first atomic explosion.  His response was, "In modern times, yes."

Orly, would be glad to, but being a Brahmin myself and steeped with Vedic stories in my bones, I rejected it because it felt wrong at some level. I found my insight sharpen in the world of Mayan and Aztec burjos and pagan, alchemical insights.

Please dig through this site: http://www.metahistory.org/index.php

Perhaps a deeper narrative for the western mythohistorical mind, in the best traditions of Joseph Campbell and Carlos Casteneda.

Let me know how you like it. I'll give you a Vedic recommendation after.

ORI!!!

How nice to see you back here in full fettle. Carlos Castaneda eh?

Why not Erik von Daniken? -- now, he was big on Mayan mysticism (apart from being a con-artist), come to think of it -- Cataneda's major claim to fame was the old "Sell The Secret" schmaltz which kept him in hooch and llamas during his natural..

Now don't misunderstand me, If ANYONE wants to STS -- I'm good with that (unless doing so violates civil liberty, causes ABH, provokes war etc.) -- that's just routine entrepreneurship grounded in free market capitalism. Nothing that the majority of ZH'ers would disparage in the slightest (and the other can hit the junk button NOW!)

But Castaneda was an opportunist of the first water. Let's all hear some of your Vedic recomendations, Hmm?

Sat, 04/30/2011 - 11:23 | 1223945 Orly
Orly's picture

Or is it that he knows the true Secrets of the Universe and is using Mescal as a diversion?

Never forget the image of the dog drinking water, though.  As the water entered his body, it filled every hair, then, once the hair was full, the water shot out of the ends as beams of light.  Castaneda was tripping that day, I tell you.

It seems all the ancient teachings are about the same: the Universe is pure and one; nothing can be added nor taken away.  Once you learn to deal with that concept, life gets easier.

I suppose I'm still waiting for it to get easier or do I need to deepen my understanding?

Sat, 04/30/2011 - 13:33 | 1224145 Byte Me
Byte Me's picture

No Orly, you probably don't need to deepen your understanding, you're pretty OK as is.

Try working from this vantage point: The simplist answer is often the correct answer for the problem at hand -- Occam's Razor (nothing earth shattering there --)

I remember reading this a LONG time ago -- but the most recent attribution is via Harry Harrison at the start of "Planet of the Damned"

A man said to the universe,

"Sir, I exist!"

"However" replied the universe,

"That has not created in me a sense of obligation"

(Steven Crane)

Harrison wrote this in 1962. The Universality-of-your-choice only knows when Crane wrote his gem...

I rest. (Have a pleasant Week-End!)

"The Japanese are very particular about their beef, so I don't see, really, what this has to do with the price of flank steak..."

This is true to a point - as evidenced by the 24 month rule.  But, imagine many acres of your prime grazing land laid to waste by possible contamination from Fukushima Diaichi units one through four.  Now, the 24 month rule may not need to be inforced as stubbornly.

Also, do not think that the Japanese are the only net beef importers in the Pacific Rim.  Remember, as the Australian Dollar increases in value, the USD sinks - so, Korea and other Eastern nations see a higher value in American beef.  (I hope).

Many thanks, YC.  Of course, anything I say and have said has been held against me in the court of public opinion as of late, as it has to everyone else, I am sure.  There are a couple of reasons (okay, excuses...) for this:

  • We totally misunderestimated the sheer amount of liquid credits global central banks can pump into the system.
  • We completely missed the mark on how efficiently this money could be translated into unadulterated greed.
  • We are in uncharted space, with nary a star to steer us by.

That having been said, I do have an idea.  It is as ludicrous as my call at the end of last year for the AUDUSD to breach 1.06, which, at the time was laughable, if not purely insane.  Here it is...

The Japanese (and probably other Asian countries, including the formidable Chinese...) are going to pick up Unca Ben's ball and start to run with it.  As QE winds down in the US, expect other central banks to begin their own versions of quantitative easing.  This is illustrated in the attached article (lest we get off-topic or anything...) which has the Japanese doubling their monetary base not in a year but in a friggin' week!

All of this means that the ramp in AUDUSD will continue and breach two more long-term Fibonacci levels before it collapses of its own weight.  There is a Fibo here, at ~1.10 but that is too easy.  It's already there, first of all, and the ramp in Asian money has barely started.

That leaves the next Fibo at ~1.1522 to be reached and breached before the tumble.  1.1522!  Talk about un * believable!  It should get there fairly quickly, probably by mid- to late September, leaving me with the greatest birthday present in the history of the world to short the hell out of it.

But take it for what it's worth.  Technicals are tough nowadays.  And as a fabulous American poet once said:

Out here in the perimeter, there are no stars.

Out here, we is stoned.

Immaculate.

Manuveured feet around the crap on the floor and was trying to pick her up by her shoulders to unblock the door so the others could come in (and bring in a lungful of fresh air along with light).

Every time I'd lift, she'd scream.  Couldn't figure it out.  I finally repositioned enough and managed to slid her ass to the left enough for the door to crack.  By the light I could see that she was prolapsed...and I had been stepping on her uterus.

What the public doesnt realize is that the providers jack up the prices because it is in fact a reality and it is more expensive to to buy and do things.  It also knows that it has permission to do it because everyone knows. The nightly views tell us what is happening. Unlike Walter Cronkite they are kind enough to tell us what it means also. The houswives and the husbands and the neighbors and the ticky tacky all say the same. What the providers don't tell the public is that they have their commodities hedged and the increased margin is a boneus. Bring on more of that stuff...

Praise jebus for tyler.

While he sometimes fails to apportion a fair share of the blame to mercantilist policies from china, it is pretty clear now that the revolution will not start from the sheeple, proles, and scrotes, but from zero hedge and the rest of the blogosphere as people tune out the msm for their sycophantic behavior to the PTB.

It is clear this website has been noticed by people who wish to maintain the status quo with a morally hazardous productivity sapping leviathian.

They are getting nervous.

Read the legend... light purple = bottom of legend = tiny concentration.

i.e.32 to 100, NOT top of chart 3.5e+05 = 350,000

Knucklehead - SLV holdings drop because shares are redeemed for the metal.  It is a very large player accumulating silver through purchase and redemption of SLV shares.

It's also bullish for silver because if going to the SLV is the only place to get physical than the market is very tight.

This guy doesn't understand that fact that when the SLV sells their silver bullion that there is someone accepting delivery on the otherside of the transaction. It's also interesting reading through the SLV prospectus, I believe Tyler did a piece on that.

I personally don't believe that the amounts thrown around anytime you hear the word stimulus are completely accurate. Even $1 billion is an incredible amount of money, especially in terms of its' VELOCITY. Talk about your trickle down, stimulus money is/are like monetary stem cells!  To think that the BOJ really injected $688.3 billion in order to push the Yen from $78 to $81 and then to $85 only to see it fall back now to back to below $81 in the course of about 1 month cannot possibly be true unless it was a fictional number that gave financial markets CONFIDENCE. If the only thing we have to fear is fear itself, then the one think we have an almost unending supply of is absolute belief in the unbelievable.

The Fed will have to print $2.5 trillion dollars to start just to buy next year's bonds that China, Japan, the Middle East oil producing countries in trouble, Russians, etc. which makes up about 40% of bond purchases. Then Japan is going to have to cash their 1.2 trillion to rebuild their ravaged country. $2.5 will not be enough. Let's see, what will they will they call this printing program? Iron Man 4?

That I, considering everywhere
Her secret meaning in her deeds,
And finding that of fifty seeds
She often brings but one to bear,
I falter where I firmly trod,
And falling with my weight of cares
Upon the great world's altar-stairs
That slope thro' darkness up to God,
I stretch lame hands of faith, and grope,
And gather dust and chaff, and call
To what I feel is Lord of all,
And faintly trust the larger hope.

I can think of more fun things to do at 70+ than pack of my llife and move from my home for decades. I think there's a shock induced that makes this kind of denial of pragmatic reality an option and while it may be keep the lid on over the short-term, exposes people to more danger (such that they may not see the long-term). A once useful adaptation to a cruel world that is doing more harm than good in the age of modern hazards.

Could Tokyo be printing up this currency to do a currency swap with the Fed?  if they did that it would take some pressure of the exchange rate and allow the US Dollar to rally some.  Of course there might be some really busted trades out there if they did that and I would bet that the vampire squid would be on the other side of a lot of them as well.
