Lmfao. Now my side really hurts.
Hi Gunslinger.
Damn...that red line is bottlerocketing like the S&P at the close.
Go long Japanese paper and ink !
Rice paper bitchez!
Rice Paper FTW!!
It was unfotunately predictable, in this paper world, that the tragic Japan tsunami would contribute to a tragic world Tsunami.
"in this paper world, that the tragic Japan tsunami would contribute to a tragic world Tsunami."
What an excellent and very fitting visual! The world awash in currency, overwhelming and drowning all who stand in its path. A force unlike any unleashed on mankind!
the origami version of that paper world and its wave..
Banzai7, are you listening?
"Banzai7, are you listening?"
Exactly who I hoped would see our mental images.
I envision Trichet and Bernanke furiously spewing sweat as they stack sandbags filled with Euros and US Dollars to fend off a relentlessly rising tide of Japanese Yen!
plenty of liquidity. mrs. watanabe will have beautiful skin.
Shockingly, it may mean AUDUSD to ~1.1522.
Un real.
"Un real."
Yes, but in the Pacific Rim, Australia is our biggest competitor when it comes to beef exports. Shouldn't this help us American cattlemen?
The Japanese are very particular about their beef, so I don't see, really, what this has to do with the price of flank steak...
Actually not really Orly. You (perhaps everyone) should pick up a book by Ruth Ozeki called "My Year in Meats". Quite the eye-opener.
Good to see you around again too. :-)
ORI
ORI, glad you are back. Vacation, I assume. This place has been sorely lacking any credible spiritualality lately.
How does her book compare to The Jungle. One read and your searching for new forms of protein.
Hey Cossack, I've been reading, just not felt like commenting too much. Something's changing, fast here on ZH, eh? Also in the midst of a creative endeavour, wish me luck. :-)
And no, I've not read the Jungle, but will try and get my hands on it. One visit to The Farm Sanctuary (farmsanctuary.org) in person will do that for you.
Our relationship with the animal kingdom is really really skewed. Or skewered eh?
ORI
Thanks! Good to be here.
By the by, do you have any recommendations of books (in English, if you please...) on the Brahmin vedic?
It was actually your site that got me thinking about a lot of things lately, like how J. Robert Oppenheimer was asked if the Alamogordo test was the first atomic explosion. His response was, "In modern times, yes."
:?
I am become Death, the Destroyer of Worlds.
Orly, would be glad to, but being a Brahmin myself and steeped with Vedic stories in my bones, I rejected it because it felt wrong at some level. I found my insight sharpen in the world of Mayan and Aztec burjos and pagan, alchemical insights.
Please dig through this site: http://www.metahistory.org/index.php
Perhaps a deeper narrative for the western mythohistorical mind, in the best traditions of Joseph Campbell and Carlos Casteneda.
Let me know how you like it. I'll give you a Vedic recommendation after.
;-)

ORI!!!
How nice to see you back here in full fettle. Carlos Castaneda eh?
Why not Erik von Daniken? -- now, he was big on Mayan mysticism (apart from being a con-artist), come to think of it -- Cataneda's major claim to fame was the old "Sell The Secret" schmaltz which kept him in hooch and llamas during his natural..
Now don't misunderstand me, If ANYONE wants to STS -- I'm good with that (unless doing so violates civil liberty, causes ABH, provokes war etc.) -- that's just routine entrepreneurship grounded in free market capitalism. Nothing that the majority of ZH'ers would disparage in the slightest (and the other can hit the junk button NOW!)
But Castaneda was an opportunist of the first water. Let's all hear some of your Vedic recomendations, Hmm?
Or is it that he knows the true Secrets of the Universe and is using Mescal as a diversion?
Never forget the image of the dog drinking water, though. As the water entered his body, it filled every hair, then, once the hair was full, the water shot out of the ends as beams of light. Castaneda was tripping that day, I tell you.
It seems all the ancient teachings are about the same: the Universe is pure and one; nothing can be added nor taken away. Once you learn to deal with that concept, life gets easier.
I suppose I'm still waiting for it to get easier or do I need to deepen my understanding?
No Orly, you probably don't need to deepen your understanding, you're pretty OK as is.
Try working from this vantage point: The simplist answer is often the correct answer for the problem at hand -- Occam's Razor (nothing earth shattering there --)
I remember reading this a LONG time ago -- but the most recent attribution is via Harry Harrison at the start of "Planet of the Damned"
Harrison wrote this in 1962. The Universality-of-your-choice only knows when Crane wrote his gem...
I rest. (Have a pleasant Week-End!)
it's not understanding you need, but insight. Try an experiential approach. Google Goenka's Vipassana Meditation Centre. best wishes
The ancient teachings can only create a desire to know the truth for yourself. At some point you have to get it experientially. Otherwise it is just an intellectual borrowing.it's not understanding you need, but insight. Google Goenka's Vipassana Meditation Centre. best wishes
Spot on Orly. That's the nub of it. Beyond talk and philosophy and discourses and dialouges, "it" is really a simple matter of silence and one-ness. And Carlitos.... pure genius, whether Don Juan was real or not. Because he was.
Eh?
ORI
"The Japanese are very particular about their beef, so I don't see, really, what this has to do with the price of flank steak..."
This is true to a point - as evidenced by the 24 month rule. But, imagine many acres of your prime grazing land laid to waste by possible contamination from Fukushima Diaichi units one through four. Now, the 24 month rule may not need to be inforced as stubbornly.
Also, do not think that the Japanese are the only net beef importers in the Pacific Rim. Remember, as the Australian Dollar increases in value, the USD sinks - so, Korea and other Eastern nations see a higher value in American beef. (I hope).
And cattlewomen, and cattlephiliacs, and cattle two-spirited, and so on?
Sure...?
I hope that anyone practicing animal husbandry sees a profit for once. Unless you've been up all night tending a pen of calving heifers, or mending fence, I don't imagine you'd appreciate the effort that goes into keeping your plate loaded with affordable beef or other animal protein sources.
1 CHF = 1.1578 USD +0.01247 (1.089%)
Apr 29, 8:00PM GMT+00:00
"1 CHF = 1.1578 USD +0.01247 (1.089%)"
Not a fair comparison! The Swiss Franc is at least partially backed by gold!
Just goes to show that the Okidata printer is faster than the Fedell printer. (In a spool too spool comparison)
Long: Linen, Ink
Short: Societal Stability
NOW can I short Japanese Government Bonds?
Looking like PM's are the universal short to "All" Government bonds.
That's what Kyle Bass has been doing for a decade.......that trade has gone nowhere.
Thanks TD. Europe has also got to be on the cusp. This is getting surreal. Yes, bring it on tomorrow when I'll be seeking out some premium radioactive sushii from fish that have three eyes and give milk.
Silver Bitchezzzz...
We knew they printed $300B back in March. This is technically old news.
Yes, Old News... but, BOJ has printed over $1/2 TRILLION USD... & it continues
"BOJ has printed over $1/2 TRILLION USD"
So, they are counterfeiters now?
Correction - they did not print they issued electronically.
It now exists and will make the Yen as valuable as twice used Toilet paper.
Such is asset destruction
Japan sushi = 'hot broads'= JQE= NIK from 7,000 to 10,000 in 3 weeks!!!
If Ben can equal this SPX to 1,700 by June 1st. Pinch me
And yet the USD is so pathetic that they had to intervene to keep it from cratering against the JPY. No mistake - the intervention was for the dollar. What does this say about the future of the US?
"they had to intervene to keep it from cratering against the JPY"
Yes, the force is strong with Ben. Soon they will feel the distruction from his fully armed and functional PrintStar!
You mean Ben will go to ..... ludicrous speed!?
Yes! I see that his scwhartz is as big as the Japanese!
Now, to remove the purchasing power of the average citizen - SUCK, SUCK SUCK!
(reference - Spaceballs, for the unitiated).
I wonder if all the worlds fiat currencys will be dead that day?
Prices for wallpaper are collapsing already.
You just may be right Long John.
Now you see clearly o wise one. start of 1st mayan day-Egyptians revolt. 1st Mayan night- Japanese earthquake, Liyba civil war. I coud go on as I have been writing it down but they are just going to junk me because Im just a stupid indian. We start the third day May 2 which will be relativly quiet and a time we will begin to start applying something we have learned. The Mayan nights are when the SHTF. Especially the 4th night which starts on July 1. And you are right on the Nov 17 we will complete the cycle ushering in a new era and way of thinking. Nothing to be scared of its just a cylce of time and the no the world will not end. Its just going to happen faster than you will imagine and it is a great honor to be alive during this time.
I like you.
You remind me of the checkout girl at the Fred Meyer's liquor store who advised me to save my pennies. "They're worth more in copper than they are in currency." she told me.
I didn't have the heart to set her straight. And the beer she sold me was quite satisfactory.
Cowdiddly, nice. Care to share more?
Kahan se ho?

You surely can't be that stupid. You are not in CONgress. Hopi?
Oh Snap! Was OBL dispatched on May 2nd?
Have you read "Robes" by Penny Kelly?
If not, based on what you wrote here you would REALLY like it.

Meta Tante.
Never mind.
The calendar runs out of stone, the algol doesn't cease computational function.
There was a comic in the paper this week, showed a mayan stonemason with a large rock, said "I could only go to 2012 than ran out of stone" The boss replied "That's going to mess with someones head in the future" Damn, if you said it, the newspaper wrote it, it must be true! It wouldn't be in the paper if it wasn't fact
and just like that "they've become CURRENCY traders!" What could these "wacko's" possibly know about that? These "clowns" actually BELIEVE gold is money! Still, "the goal reamis intact: to see tens of thousands of perfectly ordinary people grabbing their laptops and running wildly out the office compex" for no apparent reason. (Hat-tip, Orson Welles.) "Yesss, people. The aliens have ARRIVED!"
Holy Fuk-u-shima Batman!
Has Batman renounced his Amerikan citizenship yet?
Ive been buying water at WMT for over a year .. a 28pack for 3.98 Last week the same water went up to 4.48 a fifty cent rise in one week, Gas in my neck of the woods only climbed twenty-five cents that same week.
FUCK YOU BEN! Inflation is the product of printing digi-dollars.
I wish your mothers uterus would have fallen out.
That's so weird you would say that today... I was reading how to fix an expelled uterus in a cow just this morning.... I bet a sizable % of folks on this site besides Col C. read it too......hmmmmm CB
A prolapse is a good enough reason to cull a cow (at least for me). Some good information is in Storey's Guide to Raising Beef Cattle [ISBN 1-58017-327-6]
And then there's All Creatures Great and Small.
True, but I like lotsa' pictures and a few words (not very bright here). How to identify it (the floppy thing with knots) what to do with it (stuff it back in) and how to make it stay (bandage style sutures).
Just need a better chute. Although all of our Longhorn Mommas are gentle, some don't take very kindly to the pushin' and shovin'.
Wagyu, Heiffers!
Sorry. A bit late to the party, I guess...
:0
Enjoy your fx trades ORLY. It's fun to compare theories. Thanks for your input. Best wishes.
Many thanks, YC. Of course, anything I say and have said has been held against me in the court of public opinion as of late, as it has to everyone else, I am sure. There are a couple of reasons (okay, excuses...) for this:
That having been said, I do have an idea. It is as ludicrous as my call at the end of last year for the AUDUSD to breach 1.06, which, at the time was laughable, if not purely insane. Here it is...
The Japanese (and probably other Asian countries, including the formidable Chinese...) are going to pick up Unca Ben's ball and start to run with it. As QE winds down in the US, expect other central banks to begin their own versions of quantitative easing. This is illustrated in the attached article (lest we get off-topic or anything...) which has the Japanese doubling their monetary base not in a year but in a friggin' week!
All of this means that the ramp in AUDUSD will continue and breach two more long-term Fibonacci levels before it collapses of its own weight. There is a Fibo here, at ~1.10 but that is too easy. It's already there, first of all, and the ramp in Asian money has barely started.
That leaves the next Fibo at ~1.1522 to be reached and breached before the tumble. 1.1522! Talk about un * believable! It should get there fairly quickly, probably by mid- to late September, leaving me with the greatest birthday present in the history of the world to short the hell out of it.
But take it for what it's worth. Technicals are tough nowadays. And as a fabulous American poet once said:
Out here in the perimeter, there are no stars.
Out here, we is stoned.
Immaculate.
Howdy Orly.
I am nowhere near smart enough to trade FX, but I did have the opportunity once to trade USD for AUD once in the early 80's. I went to the 383 club (now Pinocchio's?) in Perth and participated in Kangaroo races with the one dollar notes. I also heavily invested in Swan Lager too. Did I mention that I was a young and impressionable sailor once?
Wagyu? Way too much fat for an old guy like me.. I raise tender Longhorn Lean beef. It's good for ya'!
When I was a paramedic I got "tossed" through the window of a hoarder house. Old lady lying up against the front door (only entrance), no lights on...just a squalling old lady. Slid down her stack of trash in the dark and landed squarely on her.
Manuveured feet around the crap on the floor and was trying to pick her up by her shoulders to unblock the door so the others could come in (and bring in a lungful of fresh air along with light).
Every time I'd lift, she'd scream. Couldn't figure it out. I finally repositioned enough and managed to slid her ass to the left enough for the door to crack. By the light I could see that she was prolapsed...and I had been stepping on her uterus.
DUDE
LOL!
You sir ,had an interesting job!
Ha ha! Read that too.
think smart! after you drink all the water, refill it with tap water, return for refund! or, photcopy the bar code off of a pop can, make multiple copies, stick them onto a water bottle, pass them through those recycle machines to get your deposit back on these bottles which are not deemed refundable!
barcode trick = impressive arbitrage
How much does a photocopy cost? That was rhetorical. You'd be better off just exchanging dollars for nickels before they're out of nickel.
Sounds like a trick that Kramer (from Seinfeld) concocted.
What the public doesnt realize is that the providers jack up the prices because it is in fact a reality and it is more expensive to to buy and do things. It also knows that it has permission to do it because everyone knows. The nightly views tell us what is happening. Unlike Walter Cronkite they are kind enough to tell us what it means also. The houswives and the husbands and the neighbors and the ticky tacky all say the same. What the providers don't tell the public is that they have their commodities hedged and the increased margin is a boneus. Bring on more of that stuff...
Nice Pete Seeger ref.

I guess this is good to know, but I don't see any simple way to make a buck off it.
It unfortunately confirms the primary trend is intact.
Praise jebus for tyler.
While he sometimes fails to apportion a fair share of the blame to mercantilist policies from china, it is pretty clear now that the revolution will not start from the sheeple, proles, and scrotes, but from zero hedge and the rest of the blogosphere as people tune out the msm for their sycophantic behavior to the PTB.

Thanks, that map confirms the nuclear fall-out is tiny. (NOT sarcasm).
Read the legend... light purple = bottom of legend = tiny concentration.
i.e.32 to 100, NOT top of chart 3.5e+05 = 350,000
"Thanks, that map confirms the nuclear fall-out is tiny"
True. We have very sensitive equipment at work. I would know if we were having to set our threshold levels higher due to "background" increases.

Hey Sheeple.....Ishares Silver Trust (SLV) silver holdings dropped by 31.9 tons in the latest week. LMFAO!!!!!!!
Here's a headline I bet you'll never see on ZH:
"Silver Holdings Plunge by 31.9 tons in World's Largest Silver Trust"
LMFAO!!!!!
Knucklehead - SLV holdings drop because shares are redeemed for the metal. It is a very large player accumulating silver through purchase and redemption of SLV shares.
And more physical has been removed from the market.
Idiot, when a SLV holder sells their shares for cash, the trust has to sell an offsetting amount of silver. Silver was liquidated in the past week. Can you not comprehend that fact? LMFAO!!!!
It's also bullish for silver because if going to the SLV is the only place to get physical than the market is very tight.
This guy doesn't understand that fact that when the SLV sells their silver bullion that there is someone accepting delivery on the otherside of the transaction. It's also interesting reading through the SLV prospectus, I believe Tyler did a piece on that.
To be liquidated to the hungry, hungry COMEX hordes with a quickness?
How much SLV did JPM have hidden in Blythe's undies?

I personally don't believe that the amounts thrown around anytime you hear the word stimulus are completely accurate. Even $1 billion is an incredible amount of money, especially in terms of its' VELOCITY. Talk about your trickle down, stimulus money is/are like monetary stem cells! To think that the BOJ really injected $688.3 billion in order to push the Yen from $78 to $81 and then to $85 only to see it fall back now to back to below $81 in the course of about 1 month cannot possibly be true unless it was a fictional number that gave financial markets CONFIDENCE. If the only thing we have to fear is fear itself, then the one think we have an almost unending supply of is absolute belief in the unbelievable.
http://www.guardian.co.uk/world/2011/apr/13/japan-lost-millions-safe-tsunami
You've never witnessed the pathetic half-life of a BoJ intervention before?
The Fed will have to print $2.5 trillion dollars to start just to buy next year's bonds that China, Japan, the Middle East oil producing countries in trouble, Russians, etc. which makes up about 40% of bond purchases. Then Japan is going to have to cash their 1.2 trillion to rebuild their ravaged country. $2.5 will not be enough. Let's see, what will they will they call this printing program? Iron Man 4?

FOOD, fucktards. Seven billion mouths can't be wrong..
BoJ printed in MARCH -- nothing NEW to see here other than a G7 CB intervention that failed as all interventions fail in FX manipulation. Sub 80 USD/JPY, expect more of the same -- coupled with more failure.
Work for me. Keep the stops tightish on the downrun, SAR on intervention. What more do you need to know?

I showed this to 30 educated, otherwise intelligent Japanese people today and gave a small lecture on the potential implications.
The most common response was, "It'll be alright. We don't owe money to any other countries, anyway."
Yup. It'll be alright... /sarcasm off
The opinion of the parents of my Japanese friend, who live in Tokyo (forget the prefecture):
"We're old anyway; radiation won't be any worse on us than time over the short-term."
No joke.
Every accident increases complacency.
I can think of more fun things to do at 70+ than pack of my llife and move from my home for decades. I think there's a shock induced that makes this kind of denial of pragmatic reality an option and while it may be keep the lid on over the short-term, exposes people to more danger (such that they may not see the long-term). A once useful adaptation to a cruel world that is doing more harm than good in the age of modern hazards.
Plutonium-backed currency?
Yes.
Could Tokyo be printing up this currency to do a currency swap with the Fed? if they did that it would take some pressure of the exchange rate and allow the US Dollar to rally some. Of course there might be some really busted trades out there if they did that and I would bet that the vampire squid would be on the other side of a lot of them as well.
