New Hampshire Man Lights Himself On Fire To Protest America's Decline

Late last week, Thomas James Ball reached his breaking point. Driven
to desperation by a system that bankrupted him and destroyed his family,
Ball walked up to the main door of the Keene County, New Hampshire
courthouse, doused himself with gasoline, and lit himself ablaze.

Hardly anyone seems to have noticed.

Conversely, when a 26-year old Tunisian man lit himself on fire a few
months ago after police confiscated the fruits and vegetables he had
been selling without a proper permit, it launched a wave of revolution
across the Middle East.

People were shocked into taking action… protests and riots swept the region and one regime after another crumbled.

Rather than sparking an “American spring” and shocking US citizens
into taking their country back, though, Mr. Ball’s act of
self-immolation seems to have been largely ignored. There has been scant
coverage (and scant is being extremely generous) of Mr. Ball in the
mainstream media, and what little coverage there is generally discredits the man as a troublemaker.

This is how the system’s gatekeepers have been so adroit at
maintaining the status quo– by suppressing dissent, marginalizing the
detractors, and distracting the populace with meaningless, irrelevant
drivel.

Mr. Ball left behind a lengthy missive prior to his suicide, which
covers a range of topics from political corruption to why the family
court system in America is utterly disgraceful. He was, to put it
mildly, a staunch advocate of violent change, and it’s clear he hoped a
great deal of others would follow in his footsteps to literally burn the
system down.

(Ball even left instructions for how to make a proper Molotov
cocktail along with specific vulnerabilities of police stations in his
area…)

Perhaps the most interesting part of his final post, however, was the
observation that the United States is no longer a nation of laws; Ball
described what he calls the ‘second set of books,’ which is essentially
the collection of policies, procedures, and protocols that courts and
executive agencies rely upon.

This includes police departments and other ‘enforcers’ across the
country that come up with standardized responses to take judgment out of
the equation. TSA agents, for instance, are only following procedure
when they fondle children at airport checkpoints. Even the guys who
drove the trains to the concentration camps were just following
procedures.

Ball argued that the nation is now ruled by such procedures, even in
such institutions as family court where judges (by policy) pass the buck
down the line to mental health case workers.

His anger and desperation for this system, which tore apart his
family and bankrupted his finances, led Ball to light himself ablaze at
the local courthouse in a state whose motto is “Live Free or Die.” Ball
chose the latter.

The next day, life went on in America. There was no shocking
front-page cover story or award-winning photograph to spark a national
debate… let alone propel droves of fed-up citizens to flood the streets
demanding change.

Rather, the New Hampshire courthouse cleaned up his charred remains
and meticulously scrubbed the floors to eliminate all trace of the
event. 24-hour news networks ran a quick blurb in their scrolling
tickers amid more important coverage of the Miss USA beauty pageant and
President Obama’s Father’s Day plans.

In other words, business as usual… suggesting that if there is, in
fact, going to be a fight for the soul of the country, it’s a long way
off, and many more degrees for the boiling frogs who are stuck in the
pot.

My assessment of this situation, however controversial it may be,
remains very clear: the great faceless enemy that opposes us,
irrespective of our country of origin, is the institution of government.

Over time, this institution has inserted itself into nearly all
aspects of life, such that a man cannot so much as enjoy a pint of beer,
discipline his children, ride on the train, go to the doctor, open a
bank account, apply for a job, go fishing, or watch a sporting event
without the heavy hand of government being involved.

This is a beast that feeds on citizens; the more it feeds, the larger
it becomes and the hungrier it gets. Of all the solutions out there,
including armed conflict, civil disobedience, self-immolation, active
democracy, etc., the only one that truly destroys the beast is starving
it– take away the feast of productive citizens and accelerate its
collapse.

This poor soul actually thought that Americans would give two shits. If he really wanted to end his life he should have saved himself the pain and shot himself instead of protesting in a gruesome and painful show of suicide. No America is dead; it's not asleep at the wheel but dead. There is nothing here worth fighting for. The constitution has been used over and over again to wipe the asses of the oligarchy while Americans stood by and watched. If and when the final collapse comes, save yourself and your family and fuck everyone else. Most here on ZH have done way more than what is called for by trying to educate and spread the word. Let what’s left of America rot away, you cannot stop it.

No, he was not a poor soul, he used the one avenue open to him against a implacable system that is intent on grinding over him. Courthouses burn very well when you consider the age of teh varnished wood and the mountains of paper that is contained within.

Seems as if he is the kind to kill someone (and I suppose some people are), he killed the wrong person.

BTW, speaking about killers, did you see the headline on Drudge that Farrakhan said "there is a murderer in the White House". I can just assume that he was referring the the teleprompter ... but I will probably never know because the related link to "mrctv.org" is mysteriously unavailable...

... and I don't suppose anyone else watched the weekend showing on the history channel of the "Rise of the Third Reich" and then another one about Hitler and the war years ... remarkable parallels to what is going on today with the US/the West taking the place of Germany.

Only the players are different. In Hitlers time the choices were between the communists (oligarchal globalists) and national socialists. With the communists becoming ever more powerful, it was apparently a ground swell movement for Hitler to come in and bring the beaten down country of Germany together through national pride and fear of the a global oligarchy.

Same story, different twists ... if at first you don't succeed, try, try again.

Drudge changed the link and now the original is available.

--- What is going on in the US right now is like a combination of Hitler's empire building, plus the rise of the communist Oligarchs who Obama seems to serve.

--- At the same time we are increasingly seeing dissidents being cracked down upon, the police are getting more violent and more rights are being taken away.

It is not precisely the same. Obama would need to alt into a nationalist (which looks highly unlikely), instead of the globalist that he appears to be... this time the oligarchical globalist communists are winning, at least for the time being.

Think my "second job" needs to be with the local police force...that way I can selectively break the rules without:

1) Being busted

2) Access to great weed, or so I hear

3) Search peoples houses without a warrant

4) Search my own house for PM Violations and deem it "empty" and "compliant"

5) Kick dogs with no fear of retribution

6) Did I mention the "pension" on that job

7) Berate my neighbors in full confidence

8) Own badass weapons and kill people when they question my authority.

9) Did I mention that pension?

Damn, I can't do it...better to fight than submit.

Mr. Thomas James Ball served his Country for 21 years before being Bankrupted so that Judicial Money Machine could be fed.

We turn a Blind Eye while this Machine of Government destroys Great Human Beings. Great! Human!! Beings!!! Not some crack head.. Not some junkie.. Not some power hungry, ego maniac Pig! a Great and Fantastic Human Being Killed Himself rather than be ridin into the dirt and ground to dust by  the Judicial Money Machine.

No one cares, barely anyone.. all this is important is how they feel.. they feel like the stock market is doing ok so it is just a matter of time before the trickle down effects start impacting their lives, it sucks now but they feel like its going to get better..

No one wants to know the truth and that is the truth of the matter! they dont want to know!! they dont want to take a good long look at the problems.

Most people here are still screaming cuts! cuts! bring on the cuts! Thank GOD! the 24 hour a day news channels brain washed you ignorant fucks! programed and spitting up that shit on anyone and everyone.

If the TOP 1% paid their fair share! Social Security with its $2.5 Trillion in IOU surpluses would be safe.. and so on.. but NO! We need Cuts! 24 hours a day news seeped into my head!

Cuts! more Tax Cuts for the Rich and More Quality of Life Cuts for the Majority! CUTS!!! Hurry! Make More Cuts!!

This Nation is fragmented and the truth of the matter is seldom discussed, even here. So this man who served his Country for 21 years.. who could NOT find a JOB! because 50,000 jobs a Month have been shipped to China! EVERY MONTH FOR THE LAST DECADE! Set himself ablaze in protest of the second set of procedural books that bog down the entire legal system to the point of drowning out "The Law" itself!

All of the hot air discussion here.. all the baby boomers, bitching about how things are.. considering they themselves created this shit hole that we all now stand in.. Smoke another "J" and have another sit in and pow wow how the man is holding you down..

No one here wants to organize and take a shot! Prove me wrong! who here wants to organize and take a shot.. I know a few, more than a few who are game.. but aside from those few the majority, even in fight club are just arm chair mouth pieces.. passing the time of their twilight golden years.. pretending to care but un-willing to do a damn thing about it.. other than try to talk someone to death or hug it out after smoking a peace pipe with them.

There needs to be blood spilled, there needs to be "The Constitution" Restored! Above Prodcedural Ease.

Talking isnt changing shit!

But the Head of the FBI for shitting out the 4th Amendment? Blaming any of the above is like blaming Kermit the Frog when it is Jim Hensons hand up Kermit's Ass!

So who is pulling strings in a way that is harmful to the United States? and the thusly "We the People" along with the Constitution..

I think the Koch Brothers.. are up higher on the list of person's guilty of undermining public safety and generally just feeding the American Public Poison..

I nominate the Koch Brother's!

as well the Rockefeller!

Lord Rothchild!

Who is really moving the President? Who is the real person who makes him break every promise he made while campaigning? They are on the list as well!

So? who do you thiink should be on the list..

Everyone else feel free to sign in on an anonymous server and make a new name here and then nominate whom you think is guilty of harming our Country!

Militant: Dig it, dope peddler. We're out here building a new nation for black people. It's time for you to start payin some dues, nigga!
Youngblood Priest: I ain't givin' you shit! I'll tell you what you do, you go get you a gun and all those black folks you keep doin' so much talkin' about get guns, and come back ready to go down, then I'll be right down front killin' whitey. But until you can do that, you go sing your marching songs some place else. Now we're through talkin'.

...

[Black Dynamite walks into the militant group's hideout]
Black Dynamite: Excuse me, brothers.
Militant #3: [Gets up] The militants turn, startled. This is private. How'd you get in here?
Black Dynamite: I walked in.
Militant 2: So you one of them sneaky brothers, huh? Or maybe you an undercover pig. Or maybe you just a federal hitman.
Black Dynamite: If I was, you cats would already be dead. Now let me speak to the man in charge.
Militant #3: Sarcastically, I'm in charge.
[Exchanges hi-fives with the other militant]
Black Dynamite: If you were in charge, the people might as well surrender to whitey right now, because your survival skills ain't worth a damn.
Saheed: Black Dynamite.
[Walks into the room]
Saheed: It's been a long time, my brother.
Black Dynamite: [Exchanging hi-fives with Saheed] What it is, Saheed?
Militant 2: You know this Uncle Tom?
Black Dynamite: Listen sucka, I'm blacker than the ace of spades and more militant than you and your whole damn army put together. While you out there, chanting at rallies and brow-beating politicians, I'm taking out any money-fronting sucka on a humble that gets in my way. So I tell you what, when your so called revolution starts, you call me, and I'll be right down front showing you how it's done. But until then, you need to SHUT the FUCK UP when grown folks is talking.
Militant 2: I'm sorry.
Saheed: Yeah, we heard about what went down at the Hip Pocket. That was righteous.
Black Dynamite: That was personal, brother.
Saheed: Personal or not, you saved a lot of brothers and sisters. You need our help,
[pounds chest with right fist]
Saheed: we're here.
Black Dynamite: I can dig it.
[Black Dynamite pulls the bullet casing from his pocket]
Black Dynamite: What can you tell me about this?
[Saheed takes the casing, sniffs the inside for gunpowder and licks the outer casing]
Saheed: I ain't seen one of these in a while.
[Black Dynamite and Saheed walk out of the room]
Militant 2: [Whispers] I was gonna fuck him up.

There's more of us than you might think. I used to think I would lie in wait until a critical mass developed, but have since realized that it doesn't take more than a few willing participants to catalyze a larger mass of like-minded individuals. On the other hand, organization can be difficult given the pervasive govt infiltration/monitoring of sites like ZH. It's hard to know with whom you are dealing. That being said, I'm still down. Please. There are only three problems in America that would solve all. 1

End all immigration. We are now short of fresh water, just ask any of the states dependent upon the Colorado River. California is a cess pool of third worlders. Once our greatest state for its wealth of land that could grow anything, the developers and the immigration attorneys have made their money and left us with the disease of third worlders who bring tuberculosis, leprosy, and demands that everything be translated into their language. (If they are here, learn English or leave.) The country is full up and if immigration (send all birth drop babies home, deny that the Constitution of the United States and its right to birth can be stolen. The fundamental principle of the Constitution is the law: "unclean hands" cannot be cleaned. You cannot steal into the country and steal citizenship for yourself or your children, and that means destroying our health care system and our scholastic system. The news today noted that Nevada has a fifty percent graduation rate. Ffity percent! That is a country which has ceded its moral righteousness via the liberals.)

2. End all welfare. A safety net is by definition extremely brief and extremely austere. We were once a country that believed you slept in your parents basement (what is all this bitching about living with parents; this is what people do to get ahead; conserve resources, save, and educate themselves). Hollywood has sold your children a bill of goods that includes deviant sexuality, that an eighteen year old should spend every penny on the fundamentals of living, and that relationships are simply spending time in the cesspool of mingled bodily fluids. From this derives the (what? no one knows the real numbers) decimation of the black family, the white family and the ascendency of rotating doors in the homes of children where men pass through, generally not staying long, and which causes untold grief for children. Welfare was never meant to be a way of life much less a multi-generational reward for bad behavior. It is up to a family/extended family to determine what they wish to do: support each other to a better way or parse themselves into the gutter. This has been a principle of America since we began. The Great Society that Lyndon Johnson envisioned did not include, nor was it intended to be, a cesspool of breeding idiocrats who feed at the trough of the productive, who sell their food stamps because via college grants (watch Judge Judy and you'll see these "college grants" are used to buy cars, game equipment, and vacations...whoo!! ya gotta love that free money for the Supposed aspirational. Much of college, particularly community college has become either high school remediation (twenty years and out! Fifty years of retirement money! What a scam!) or simply holding tanks for those having more babies than they can afford, another means of funneling money to the worst of society. On Jerry Springer one constantly sees people who literally cannot speak English and yet are receiving grants and aid of various forms....has this country lost its mind...the key word for this is Blackmail of the taxpayers. The truly productive are groaning under the whip of fees and taxes as surely as the whip of the Egyptian kings made giant pyramids...Therefore the Tea Party is well named, as clearly the taxes and fees on the productive have become exculpatory and usurous; the liberals have played noblesse oblige with Other People's Money long enough. Oh ya sure, they love to adopt a foreign kid here and there while ignoring the massive numbers of children "birthed for benefits" (my phrase, ya like it?!) and then plunked in front of the television until their brains rot. Now that's child abuse by any standard.

3. To heck with government/public employees, they can go back to work or starve. Under no condition have the people of this country agreed to country club retirement plans for twenty years of incomprehensibly crummy work. Every single teacher knows what kid in her class can't read and should be reporting this as child abuse. To send a child on to the next grade when they have not learned what is necessary to accomplish successfully that grade is child abuse. Educational abuse of our children is worse than sexual abuse for it lasts for twelve years minimum, is a lifetime of being ignorant, and is paid for by the American taxpayers. The guys who wrote Freakonomics were once interviewed and in an "aside" (not the main topic they were discussing) one of the guys mentioned that before women went completely into the workforsmartest women were teachers, thus children werebeing tuaght by those who actually cared about children learning and actually taught children. Go to any college campus and you'll find that the "teacher" training is mostly Pass//Fail and that the stupidest students are in the teaching track as there is so little actual grading being done. In other words, unlike the college students who need to achieve As in order to continue to graduate school and/or who have a motivation in order to establish a track record for later achievement or just because it is their own standards that makes them achievers. As Ayn Rand tells us in all her writings, remove the motivation for achieveing and the achievers will take their abilities and go hide until they can be rewarded for their talents. This is called Communism. Think about the current person occupying the White House and you'll see that connection. Government jobs have been stuffed with immigrats in order to hide their real numbers from you. TSA is nothing but welfarians aided and abetted by government...ever wonder why those nice college students aren't working in TSA...ever wonder how those TSA agents don't know how to iron a shirt or press pants or shine their shoes...They are trash putting their hands on you and your children...communism rules for in communism the recipients of "noblesse oblige" eat those who are the noblesse. Good luck, your gonna need it.

wit regard to number 1.. I like the idea of America going back to the old immigration laws that seemed to serve the Country just fine.. until the top 1% wanted a more subservient class, enter Mexicans.. who work for nothing, happily!

The United States has been turned into a service economy to wit.. the Mexicans have flooded in.. all those Texas Farmers.. God Bless'um!

There is nothing wrong with a Country preserving its heritage.. and going back to what made America Great! when America was Great! seems like a good fucking start!

If the state had driven a woman to such a desperate act, the event would likely have been front-page, above-the-fold in every branch of the mainstream media.

QEsucks wrote above that Ball "punched his 4 year old." My understanding is that he slapped her for being disobedient. Do you have a link which shows that he punched her? I don't know what the girl's behavior was, or how hard he slapped her, but I do know that, if at the age of 4, I had been disobedient and spoke in a nasty way to either of my parents, I would have gotten a slap followed by a mouth washing and then I would have been sent to my room. I won't say whether or not I would have deserved such a punishment, because I don't care to run the risk of having armed goons showing up on my doorstep.

I really am wondering QEsucks, do you have evidence that he "punched" his child, or is your statement just a typical feminist-style, knee jerk invention?

http://www.domasjefferson.com/news/man-lights-himself-on-fire-in-front-o...

“My story starts with the infamous slapping incident of April 2001,” he wrote. While putting his 4-year-old daughter to bed, she began to lick his hand, he warned her three times to stop then slapped her.

Ball cut her lip, and his wife asked him to leave the house, he wrote.

She called the police, and he was told he could not return that night. The next day police arrested him at work, booked him and returned him to work, Ball wrote.

Ball told his boss he did not think the couple could work out their differences and he no longer trusted her judgment. At the time Ball worked for a Ford dealership in Winchendon, Mass.

Karen Ball filed for divorced three days after the slapping took place.

Court documents quote the girl saying Ball struck her in the mouth until she bled.

The girl, now 14, reported to Jaffrey police at the time that Ball pushed her on her back, hit her a lot and she was bleeding.

The couple have two other children — a 17-year-old daughter and an 11-year-old son.

Ball admitted striking his daughter three times with an open hand across her face, but maintained it was “appropriate discipline,” the court documents said.

http://hypervocal.com/news/2011/update-man-who-set-himself-on-fire-on-co...

The letter depicts a man pushed to the brink by a system he had little control over, a system which he felt was unjust, a system that was certainly not looking out for his best interests.

It also depicts a man who seems slightly unbalanced, the type of man that would rather set himself on fire and die rather than figure out a way to pay his wife the $3,000 he owed her for child support.

You know who also attended the Bilderberg meeting ?

Rick Perry.

And lots of NSA pepople, Eric Schmidt, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands, a lot of top bankers,  academics from the field of sociology and psychology, Thomas Enders, the head of Airbus, Peer Steinbrück, German ex-finance minister, and the list goes on and on.

it's king making time again.

As they did for the last 40 years, or God knows how long.

We only have the info that the moles can give us and what is overheard from time to time by reporters like from the Guardian who once sat in a cafe outside a Bilderberg meeting and listened to the talk of two British attendents who complained that there are still so many people who have the financial means and the time to travel to those meetings and protest against it.

Rick Perry is GOING TO be the next president of th United States, no matter how you vote, if he properly answers the questions of what his views on certain topics, you know,  like population control are.

He was one of many Mass. residents (dare I say it, Massholes) who move north to NH after a bad divorce, bankruptcy, whatever, trying to fly below the radar and find cheap land/housing.  Probably a hard drinker, probably violent towards his wife before he pulled the baby into it.  Divorce court today is a nightmare, but to be brutally frank about it, dousing yourself with charcoal lighter fluid and burning yourself to death in front of a rural county courthouse can't be expected to accomplish much.  The poor SOB would have been better off to show his empty pockets in open court and hope for the best.  Again, don't get married in the U.S. if you're serious about risk-hedging, divorce court is a very common end-point, and a BAD one.  But this guy went about it the wrong way.

(Ball even left instructions for how to make a proper Molotov cocktail along with specific vulnerabilities of police stations in his area…)

... and then turned himself into a completely ineffective Molotov cocktail, doing next to zero damage to the courthouse.

This is something that left me utterly perplexed. He argued about "buring it all down" and even invoked the Marine's mantra of "impovise, adapt, overcome" and his capabilities with respect thereto.

So why in the hell did he not forcibly break into that courthouse and really bring that entire MF'r to the ground, taking his life in the process (if he felt that was also somehow necessary to the mission)???

This spectacle would have additionally garnered much more media attention, methinks.

Look at ya
Yeah, take a look in the mirror now tell me what you see
Another satisfied customer in the front of the line for the American dream
I remember when we was both out on the boulevard
Talkin' revolution and singin' the blues
Nowadays it's letters to the editor and cheatin' on our taxes
Is the best that we can do
Come on

Look around
There's doctors down on Wall Street
Sharpenin' their scalpels and tryin' to cut a deal
Meanwhile, back at the hospital
We got accountants playin' God and countin' out the pills
Yeah, I know, that sucks – that your HMO
Ain't doin' what you thought it would do
But everybody's gotta die sometime and we can't save everybody
It's the best that we can do

Four score and a hundred and fifty years ago
Our forefathers made us equal as long as we can pay
Yeah, well maybe that wasn't exactly what they was thinkin'
Version six-point-oh of the American way
But hey we can just build a great wall around the country club
To keep the riff-raff out until the slump is through
Yeah, I realize that ain't exactly democratic, but it's either them or us and
And it's the best we can do

Yeah, passionely conservative
It's the best we can do

Conservatively passionate
It's the best we can do

Meanwhile, still thinkin'
Hey, let's wage a war on drugs
It's the best we can do
Well, I don't know about you, but I kinda dig this global warming thing...

Going Galt?

"the only one that truly destroys the beast is starving it– take away the feast of productive citizens and accelerate its collapse."

Yes Simon if you choose to destroy or hold at bay a thing this tactic will work.  However if you choose to repair what was once great more effort must be made, much more.

Allowing corruption to fester tis the reason we are all in this mess, thus.

The US needs to get back on track it can start by kicking the traitors out.
"If any citizen of the United States shall accept, claim, receive, or retain any title of nobility or honour, or accept and retain any present, pension, office, or emolument of any kind whatever, from any emperor, king, prince, foreign power, or secret society, such person shall cease to be a citizen of the United States, and shall be incapable of holding any office of trust or profit under them, or either of them." tona2009

The US also needs constitutional non popular-elected Senators once again.(to stop the corruption of corporate-democracy)

A Marbury v Madison constitutional type judicial review of ALL laws and amendments needs to be performed.

Otherwise the union will separate as more and more people take personal responsibility and drop out of society.  The beast breeds its own enemies from within through oppression and restriction, resistance is not futile.  You can go with the flow, fight the flow or get out of the flow, the secret is timing.

If humans cannot stand against open corruption then we are destined to become an evolutionary footnote.  The last thing I want is to see the Human race bred into a caste system that serves the elite.

The ball is already falling, we simply need to control where it goes.  If we want the ball to go on the straight and narrow natural path then we must all insist on absolute transparency.

Cmon people we need to get on board against corruption, support TONA.

I have generally liked simon black.

He believes in small government.
He is definitely against socialism.

But to call slapping a four year old so hard he split her lip appropriate parental discipline that should just be ignored is wrong. The mother had every right to seek a divorce and custody on that issue alone and generally one incident is the tip of the iceberg.

Many people are making judgments without familiarity with these cases or specific knowledge other than his self serving statement.

Not everyone who burns himself is rightous. The odds favor my previous view that there were many incidents of abuse in this man's life, since i see these people all the time. A single " accidental" issue of abuse and a subsequent self immolation would be very atypical.

Yes the judges rely on others to help make decisions. We would need thousands of more judges if they were going to do all these evaluations themselves and conduct hours of hearings. When the parents cant agree on their own how to divide up custody do you really think they both will be satisfied by the court's decision?

$20 donation to Zero Hedge says you can not find any other incident in this mans past that speaks to his having a chilling consistant pattern that runs through this case.

Go ahead and post it up.

Shoot i will make it a hundred i need to send this year's donation in anyway.

How can we get the court records.

Are you going to take the side this is the only incident of abuse?

Surely JW in FL if anybody can get the public records of the case or look up if he has a criminal history relating to violence or threats.

Probably the public court record does not recount witness testimony verbatim, but we could look and see.

"I would be willing to bet there is more than just this one incident in his case file. I bet I am close to the truth about this mans personality, temperament, and abuse history. There is a chilling, consistent pattern that runs thru these cases such as this guy. Odds favor that he fits the pattern."

And I would be willing to bet that you would prejudge every situation where a child was injured.

You missed your calling.  You would have been a great judge during the Inquisition.

I haven't prejudged the case depending on your definition of prejudge.  I am telling you the likely pattern that would fit this situation.  It would be great to have the case file from family court.  His army record.  Previous employer records, criminal and civil history, credit record, and previous mental health records if any as well as his wife's testimony.

We might get a more comprehensive picture of this man than a self serving, bitter, obsessive monologue that may be a little light on the facts.

I think those of you see him as a hero who is trapped by the system may be prejudging the situation

I think your assumptions are wrong - and based on your frequent assumptions in this discussion - I would assume you frequently make assumptions that have no basis in fact - and are frequently making judgements that may in fact harm other people.

I don't think there are many here that think Tom Ball is a hero.  I think there are many here who would like to discuss the facts of this post - based on what was posted - and those that do are constantly being blocked by people like you who make shit up so you can get on a soap box.

You prejudged the case, you prejudged those that oppose your prejudging.  You have outed yourself - you better get another ID - half of those on ZH know who you are now and know you're full of shit.  I've seen you before - and you had the benefit of the doubt.  No more.

What he calls a second set of books are merely procedural protocols that generally bring more predictability to the system. We have also been upset at judges who use too much discretion.

I think we all agree that a child as her own individual has rights. The child is not the property of the father. He may not kill her, dispose of her any way he wishes. He may not sell her. He may not have sex with her. He may not torture her. He is not allowed to seriously harm her. I have seen all of those and more in my evaluations.

I think all of us could agree to that. Where we disagree is how much you can hurt a child before intervention is the moral and ethical thing to do.

Unless someone wishes to disagree and state we should never intervene to protect a child?

I think you've missed the point.  No one is promoting child abuse.  The only question is how much the state should interfere in parenting.  Was this man's experience justified because he slapped his 4 year old once?  or not?  Should he be denied access to his home/wife/livelyhood/children for life for one slap?  Should someone (wife/brother) have wagged a finger and said, "Never do that again"?  Or something in between?  If he felt he was wrong and vowed to never do anything like that again, would that have been enough for you?  Or was it required that he be put through hell?

We dont know the whole story. I know when parents cant agree on custody then the court will make a decision, however imperfect.

I have evaluated hundreds of custody cases. Only rarely is there one single episode of accidental abuse. Courts look at other factors too. A father may be a harsh disciplinarian but that alone is not the only issue. Does he use drugs or abuse alcohol? Does he have a history of steady stable employment?

All I really know is that I want to avoid being a defendent in the legal system. It is a roll of the dice.

If you admit that you don't know the whole story - why do you insist that the rest of this story must be so full of horror that the message should be dismissed?

Because the odds are that he is not a self immolating saint and he very much minimized all the things he did.

His message is that he doesnt like case law and.civil procedure, the second set of books. There are good reasons for adding clarity and predictability to the court system. We also dont like when judges rule willy nilly and have too much discretion.

I just dont see anything new hear except the age old debate of where to draw the line. What laws do we want? How much discretion should a judge have?

Nothing new here.

Well - the odds are that you are a judge of people you don't know.  Of situations that you have no details on.  The odds are that your judgement is clouded.  The odds are - you will be a very willing participant in any crimes against humanity that someone can coax you into.  That weak emotional minds are easily swayed.  That minds that care not for facts lose themselves in their emotion.  The odds are the war crimes court - if your side is the losing side - will side against you.  The odds are, having participated in crimes against humanity because of your clouded vision - it will cost you your freedom.

What I believe is you are for looking for excuses to justify state intervention as a bunch of "experts" see fit.  I've explained the perfect solution. Let Daddy do whatever he wants, God will take care of the rest. But you don't believe in God. You believe in the "State".
