Guest Post: US State Department Says "Conspiracy Theories Exist In The Realm Of Myth"

Tyler Durden's picture

Submitted by Mac Slavo of www.SHTFplan.com

The US State Department’s America.gov web site, which purports to
engage international audiences on issues of foreign policy, society and
values, has dedicated a special section to conspiracy theories and misinformation, claiming:

“Conspiracy theories exist in the realm of myth,
where imaginations run wild, fears trump facts, and evidence is
ignored. As a superpower, the United States is often cast as a villain
in these dramas.”

Some of the conspiratorial myths “officially” debunked by the State Department include:

The US military’s use of depleted uranium in combat and comparing this to radioactivity from detonations of nuclear weapons.

“Uranium evokes very powerful fears. It is
associated with atomic weapons, mass annihilation, radiation sickness,
cancer and birth defects. Depleted uranium evokes these same fears,
despite the fact that it has been depleted of much of its
radioactivity. Even if you accept this fact, your fear-based
associations can be more powerful than logic and facts. Compare how you
feel about tungsten to how you feel about depleted uranium. Both are
heavy metals, but “depleted uranium” might sound scarier to you.”

Never mind that the World Health Organization says that depleted
uranium is weakly radioactive and a radiation dose from it would be
about 60% of that from purified natural uranium with the same mass.
It’s only 60% as radioactive as the real stuff, so it’s safe to use in
weapons systems we’re lobbing into neighborhoods in Iraq and
Afghanistan.

The employment of economic hit men to entrap countries in huge amounts of debt.

“Economic conspiracy theories are often based on the
false, but popular, idea that powerful individuals are motivated
overwhelmingly by their desire for wealth, rather than the wide variety
of human motivations we all experience. (This one-dimensional,
cartoonish view of human nature is at the heart of Marxist ideology,
which once held hundreds of millions under its sway.)”

“One fantasy, reflecting this simplistic, unimaginative way of
interpreting human events, falsely claims that U.S. national security
agencies employ “economic hit men” to entrap countries with huge
amounts of debt.”

“Within the United States, those who fear international
influences may believe false stories that, with Canada and Mexico, the
United States is replacing the dollar with a new “Amero” currency,
patterned after the Euro, or that the United States is sacrificing its
sovereignty to an imaginary “North American Union.”

Two words: Goldman Sachs. [ZH: we also recommend reading Confessions of an Economic Hitman for the truth on this matter]

And, while the Amero may not be a reality now, there is only one way
that the United States is going to pay off the national debt that our
domestic economic hit men have strapped us with, and this is through
either devaluation or all out default. In both cases the US dollar as
we know it today will be completely destroyed and a new currency system
will be required. Call it a theory, we think it’s fact, and if they’re
doing it to our own country, why would they not do it to third-world
foreigners?

The State Department has also made efforts to debunk the myth that President Obama is not a US citizen.

“Today, some conspiracy theorists falsely claim
President Obama was not born in the United States, making him
ineligible to be president. However, there is no doubt that he was born
in Hawaii.”

There may be no doubt in the minds of those appointed to their posts
by President Obama or those hired to write the State Departments
debunking blogs, but millions of Americans question the President’s eligibility
to serve for a number of reasons that include his failure to provide a
legitimate Certificate of Live Birth issued by the State of Hawaii, his
inability to explain his trip to Pakistan in the 1980’s when holders of
US passports were not allowed into the country, and most recently, his
use of a social security number issued only for residents of the State
of Connecticut, in which he never lived.

No government debunking of conspiracy myths would be complete without discussion of September 11th:

Dramatic, polarizing events often give rise to
conspiracy theories, and the September 11 attacks were the most
dramatic terrorist attacks in history. Nonsense about them abounds,
especially in the popular video “Loose Change.”

See “The Top September 11 Conspiracy Theories” for an overview.
There was no “controlled demolition” of the World Trade Center towers.
Instead, the unprecedented attack by hijacked airliners full of jet
fuel destroyed support pillars, loosened fireproofing insulation, and
ignited fires that destroyed the twin towers. The collapse of the north
tower heavily damaged World Trade Center 7, igniting fires and causing
its collapse.

A hijacked plane, not a cruise missile, hit the Pentagon, as
detailed in a photo gallery. Four thousand Jews did not miss work at
the World Trade Center on September 11. And al-Qaida has admitted, many
times, that it carried out the attacks.

At the risk of sounding like Debra Medina Truthers,
we’ll refrain from arguing every point, however we’d like to point out
to those of our readers who have not yet viewed the popular video
“Loose Change,” that they take the time to do so before swallowing this
nine sentence so-called debunking of the largest crime in American
history.

If nothing else, we’d suggest to readers that there are many
questions that went unanswered about 9/11 which include, but are not
limited to, over fifty (50) missing closed circuit videos around the
Pentagon that were never released to the public and the fact the Osama Bin Laden was never officially implicated for his role in the September 11th WTC plot.

A couple of conspiracies which were considered myths at the time of
their occurrence, yet were not debunked by the State Department’s new
web site include the Gulf of Tonkin incident which lead to the Vietnam
war and the CIA drug transportation rings of the 1980’s. Because of the
overwhelming evidence that was uncovered by independent researchers and
reluctantly released by the government, these myths and fantasies
eventually became realities.

We wonder if the US government may be rushing to judgment about wild
imaginations and irrational fears when they have failed to answer
simple questions regarding many of the conspiracy “theories” above.
Naturally, many of these will remain theories until the facts are
openly provided to those requesting the information, at which point
they will either be conspiracy fact or non-truths.

For the time being, those who seek the truth will likely remain
baffled, confused and misdirected, much like the magic bullet that
killed JFK, because any good conspiracy creates a web of illegible
disinformation and misinformation, not from those looking for answers,
but by those who have the power to provide them.

SHEEEEEEEEEIIIIIIT! The "truth" is the conspiracy theory. It is hard to live with that fact until you get used to being lied to--and being lied to big-time. After that, reality takes on a new "hue" and either you lose your mind, or you control the knowledge and get ready for what the liars will do next (no more surprises-bought it the first time, but never again)

Hence the term "9/11 truthers".

Take a minute to ponder how our society has gotten to the point where we assign negative connotations to the notion of somebody trying to find 'truth'.

Wow, what a surprise from the people who worship at the altar of torture.

What scumbags. There is no depravity I can't see them sinking into. And that is no theory, it is a fact. The attempt to discredit those who bring their more odious transgressions to the fore is common knowledge now.Assassinations, drug running, TORTURE as policy. All proven facts.NOT theories.

We need to stop these cretins before it is too late.

They should be tried for treason...right now.

What an absolutely strange thing for a government department to publish. It's got the editorial tone of a pedantic brochure aimed at middle school students.

Conspiracy theories exist in the realm of myth

Everything starts out as a myth. Absolutely everything, no exceptions. This is because everything starts out as the idea of a single individual, or individuals in absolute isolation, and only over time can we separate the seed from the chaff, then myth becomes reality.

But not so often. Most of the time, a myth really is just a myth.

Fun stuff I suppose, but ultimately just a distraction. Monkey mind-games for the weary. Reality is out there. It stalks us daily even as we think we have a handle on things, and in the end reality wins.

no.

you must understand.  what is a sound?  recognition.

what is a word?  a letter?  a narrative, a story?  you must

know.  do not suppose fun stuff.  know.  reality is a

mystery, and out there, but the important question is

what is it?   and why should you accept it, tolerate it,

embrace it, if you do not comprehend it?   sheep?

win!  you win!  no one else can.  as you may be reality,

itself?    projecting all the world...........

.

do you remember voices?  words?  the origins of

authority as you understand it?  ....historically

referred to as gods.   conscience.  consciousness of

conscience?   does this mean anything to you?  if so

read julian jaynes.   or think about it / break it down.

The idea between "real" reality and "conspiracy theory" is a false dichotomy.

I prefer to operate under a few facts and guidlines.

The government lies.

The government has lied through omission, denial, deception, mischaracterization, and out right refutation on matters big and small without doubt.

I expect the government to lie to me.

What is the point of a conspiracy theory?  We'll never know exactly what the facts are, but we can infer what they aren't by who's giving us the information.

We may never know exactly how a magic trick is done, but it is possible to see the misdirection for what it is, and understand the "magic" as sleight of hand and distraction well practiced.

Okay Tyler, I'll take the bait.  No doubt you posted this to draw out all the loons.  The question is, who are the loons, the ones who side with this fellow Mac or those who oppose him?

We all know what we know, and believe what we want to believe.  This is what I know:

A good friend---non-DoD, non-USG---was playing golf as a guest on a course near the Pentagon on 9/11.  They all stopped on a tee and noted a suspiciously low flying passenger jet, ostensibly on approach to Reagan National.  They continued to watch it as it struck the Pentagon.  Unless someone went to great trouble to disguise a missile as a Boeing 767, Mr. Mac Slavo instantly loses credibility in my eyes.

Anyone wanting to check for nanothermite can go out to Staten Island where all the remains from WTCI, II, and VII are still kept.  Take as many samples as you like.  Send them to whatever lab you like.  Find any nanothermite traces?  Post your results on ZeroHedge.

WTC VII was constructed on top of NYC's main fuel storage tanks.  After two 110-story buildings right next to it collapsed and weakened its structure, it was only a matter of time before it, too, fell.  The fuel tanks caught fire and burned for weeks.  A good friend of mine worked on a high floor of WTC VII.  My spouse spent much of that morning chatting on the phone with that person, who gave a play-by-play of poor souls jumping to their deaths, the second plane strike, and the subsequent collapse which rattled WTC VII sufficiently to scare the bejesus out of my friend and send her scurrying from the building, cracks already forming in the walls due to the stresses.

As for the secret Enron files implicating the Bush Dynasty (kept in WTC VII), too bad we didn't have photo copy machines or computer disks way back in 2001 so that someone could have made copies of those documents!

As for the "terribly complicated" 9/11 plot that could not possibly be hatched by a couple of guys with beards living in a cave in Tora Bora....well, if flight lessons and box cutters constitute complicated, then the plot of a typical half hour sitcom is positively Shakespearean and Adam Sandler is Laurence Olivier reincarnate.

Where was Mac Slavo to tell me I wasn't supposed to go to Pakistan in the 1980's?  Should I hide the rugs?

Separate the wheat from the chaff.  One uncovered reality does not make all conspiracies true, just as one disproved conspiracy does not make all government pronouncements true.

So I've wasted bandwidth and convinced no one of anything.  Guess I'm on par with Mac Slavo in that regard.

Well said.  I agree with this and Trav7777.

The problem with conspiracy's is that rarely do they get disproven.  Where once coincidence could occur it is no longer allowed.  Where separate instances of incompetence and greed exist, a single conspiracy is created as an explanation.

It is the peak of human arrogance that conspiracy exist from as for there to be a conspiracy, their has to be someone who knows what no one else does.  The conspiracy nut is the Jehovan Witness of politics, spreading his religion to anyone who will open their door to his knocking.

"It is the peak of human arrogance that conspiracy exist from as for there to be a conspiracy, their has to be someone who knows what no one else does."

?? huh?

Are you saying conspiracies don't exist?

A conspiracy is defined (by dictonary.com) as:

'an agreement by two or more persons to commit a crime, fraud, or other wrongful act.'

With that definition, it would be pretty difficult to take the stance that 'conspiracies don't exist'.

Also, you would have to extend what you've said as well. You say that "for a conspiracy to exist, there must be someone who knows what no one else does", EXCEPT his co-conspiritors. That is what defines a conspiracy. A group of people secretly working towards a common end.

Are you a structural engineer?  Materials scientist?  Architect?  If you lack any of those credentials, you are merely taking someone else's word for everything.  Yes, so am I.  I have taken the time to view works by both sides of this argument.  One side is infinitely more credible, particularly when they note the peculiarities in the design of the WTC buildings.  In addition, when I know parts of someone's argument are dead wrong (yes, my golf narrative, plus some other things), then I tend to dismiss everything else that comes from the mouth or pen of the writer.  Maybe that is unfair, but it is what it is.

Also, to what end was WTC VII brought down?  If the conspiracies are true, it sure seems like overkill.  Truly, though, I'm impressed as all hell that a controlled demolition could be orchestrated in eight hours, since the typical obsolete football stadium demolition is planned and studied for months before the switch is thrown.  Who would have thought the government was so competent!

Also, who would have known Bush was such a great actor.  When informed of the first strike, while reading a book to some gradeschoolers...well, he must have been practicing that facial reaction for months.  Again, that's anecdotal, but when it fits, it fits.

I'm still waiting for at least one $75K/year GS-13 government employee to go to al Jazeera, Press TV, RT or some "independent" news outlet and spill the beans in return for a $10 million payday.  I'm sure the Saudis would pay the award just to get off the hook for producing most of the "alleged" hijackers.  Heck, I'll bet even MSNBC would give any whistleblower air time, since 9/11 happened under arch villain Bush's watch.  What?  The guy would be terminated with extreme prejudice if he spilled the beans?  The same way all the conspiracy "experts" who prove it was an inside job have been terminated?

If you think al Qaeda is a creation of the USG, then I'll spring for your tour to the Swat Valley and let you prove it.  You can reach me through ZH.  I can be your guide because I can speak some of the languages and can read all of the script.  Tell your family to watch the internet for video of your trip, as I suspect you will end up on the Ayman al Zawahri highlight reel.

And go ahead and belittle the "golf narrative", though all the belittling in the world cannot turn a B767 into a missile.

Chindit, I really do like your posts. A lot. But I'm going to rant and point out what I consider to be fundamental flaws in the logic of a previous post that initially did inspire me in a positive way:

1)

Passive defense of the Constitution is as good as active

2)      Once chaos erupts the majority of the government, the freedom-loving sleeper agents, will come to our rescue; magically holding together the fabric of society

The death penalty for Domestic Enemies needs the dust blown off it. The price for sitting on material information in regards to Treason is your life.

Hyperbolic? Just wait for the unemployment and foodstamp programs to end – ask the breadline crowd if their actions will be hyperbolic. Those programs will never end? See number two. Step forward or get a bullet in the head.

But never mind that. Let's take a look at how the Huffington Post is trying not to incite riots:

Don't cry for me; I'll be just fine.  When I "open my eyes" and see what the WTC Project Chief Structural Engineer and the actual architect say about why the buildings came down the way they did, I tend to give it more credence than the words of folks who build three story walk-ups or shopping malls.

It never ceases to amaze me how omnipotent some folks are willing to believe these unseen powers are.  I don't know if you've ever stopped to think, but the government---at least in the US---does not tend to draw the best and brightest of American society.  Some are undoubtedly clever as well as public spirited, but not enough to even begin to pull off one percent of what they are accused, much less have every single person involved take his knowledge to the grave.  We live in a society where a celebrity's gardener can get a seven figure deal writing a tell-all book, so one must assume that someone with intimate knowledge of some grand conspiracy could, and would, hold out for bazillions.  None has.

Incidentally, you haven't the slightest idea of what I know, nor what I have done to obtain that knowedge, so please do not presume.

Who would have thought the government was so competent!

Exactly...

I think the government lies to us on a daily basis, spins the truth, screws things up. But in general, they're about as competent as my left nut. The planning required to 'set up' something like 9/11 would require SO MANY PEOPLE. An incredible number of people would need to be involved, then you'd need an incredible number of things to go perfectly right in the right order. Any one of them goes wrong and every single person that was involved would be in more shit than a werribee duck.

Then say you pull it off... I'm supposed to believe that all those people are able to keep their mouths shut? Preposterous.

The government is too incompetent to set something like this up.

re Golf stories - did your mate finish his round? Just curious.. :)

Seriously, you can debunk it 1000 times, and every year a new crop of middle school kids get the link to Loose Change and fall for the list of idiotic assertions all over again.

Again, just very disappointing to see this here...  What's next, UFO sightings?  EDIT - no its apparently Chemtrails.  Congrats Tyler, the moonbats are pouring out of the closet now!

One of the reason so many 'conspiracy theory nut jobs' appear on ZH is because this is a financial blog.  Those that study the free markets can see something is very wrong with it and it sparks the synapses.  People start to connect the dots and see that the move from free market capitalism to fascism is well under way, they want to know why and that leads them into the realm of conspiracy theory.

It's only a conspiracy until it's history.

OK, if you don't buy that you can check out Webster Tarpley's amazing book, 9/11 Synthetic Terrororism, Made in USA which is a fantastic primer on how false flag attacks are and have been successful in the past.

Tarpley imagines that WTC1,2 were brought down via some kind of raygun microwave beam weapon.

The leaps and stretches were just absurd.

Sure the CIA helped Bin Laden, so what?

Maybe the reality is that they are incompetent and so is the FBI.  Maybe the reality is that they really COULDN'T stop an unfolding plot even if you gave them a crayon book with all the dots already connected except for one or two.

this should be interesting, see who lines up where with the posters here. . .

I will say that in order to move from tin-foil-hat-dom to awareness of the shit that actually goes down, on the "conspiracy theory" continuum, there will need to be some neural "bridges" laid down, else the mind will reject the information being presented - I'm sure our fave CognitiveDissonance would be more eloquent here than I. . .

9-11 is so obviously a false flag, and at this stage in amrrkkka's history, who cares about birth certs in the case of a president who blatantly represents the banking class who placed him there (hello? this nationstate was hi-jacked loooong ago). . . but I do have an opinion on depleted uranium, yes. . .

the mothers of Fallujah, Iraq, have been advised to stop having babies, the deformities being so common, so severe, that the only word that suits is "genocide". . . returning "allied" forces, young men who sat in tanks and trucks on ammunition boxes containing DU shells are also finding severe deformities in their new babies. . . afghanistan is poisoned forever, and DU was also used by NATO in Kosovo. . . all denied at first, with the truth only coming out recently. . .

when it comes to "conspiracy" talk, I don't like to post links much, as it's good to follow one's own re-search and build up awareness along the way, but this is a good place to begin:

"Me thinks they doth protest too much."

Logic:

A. Politicians lie (many campaign promises are broken)

B. Government is made up of politicians

C. If politicians lie and government is made up of politicians, government lies.

Apt Quote: “If you tell a lie big enough and keep repeating it, people will eventually come to believe it. The lie can be maintained only for such time as the State can shield the people from the political, economic and/or military consequences of the lie. It thus becomes vitally important for the State to use all of its powers to repress dissent, for the truth is the mortal enemy of the lie, and thus by extension, the truth is the greatest enemy of the State.”

Axis of Evil: Countries without a franchise central bank

Religion painted in a negative light: A religion that does not believe in Usury (interest)

Countries invaded: Countries with significant natural resources (oil)

Dollar asset backed: The dollar is backed by oil (and some gold) traded in dollars

I want the United States of America to be that shining city on a hill.  I don't want the USA to just look like a shining city like the city fascade in Blazing Saddles, but BE the shining city.  Most propaganda works on the lower levels of the IQ bell curve (tactics include appeal to authority, references to the majority of people, or fake stories about personal anecdotes), while independent thinkers are always "problematic".  This is why tyrannical regimes have always throughout history burned books, confiscated guns, and executed the independent thinkers to make it easier on the dictator without push back (historically speaking).

While history is taught as a series of random events, groups have organized to accomplish just about every major event in history (I guess JFK and Ike were both conspiracy theorists when talking about the danger of secret societies and the military industrial complex?).

Most wars occur through false flag incidents or secret plans to invade - if you have a brain, you would understand how important the element of surprise is and how important it is to have the citizens support the actions of the government.  If you don't think this is possible, you should do some homework on USS Liberty, Golf of Tonkin, Operations Northwoods, and Reichtag fire - this establishes a pattern or precedent.

A recent article this week showed that the banks were conspiring to price fix municipal fees.  Big banks are currently being investigated with colluding to manipulate precious metals prices.  Conspiracy = Collusion = The Rule Not The Exception.

They are used to an effective propaganda campaign that works one way - TV, radio, newspapers.  Zbigniew Brzezinski warned that there was a global political awakening (because of the internet - a two way medium) and that it was infinitely easier to kill a million people than control them.  Sound unusual, well maybe you'll feel better knowing he is an advisor to the President!  I have mixed feelings about the influence that groups like the CFR wield.

When Hillary was originally asked about her appointment to head the State Department, she deferred somewhat to the think tank and said that it was great that it was just up the road and would help with the agenda.  On one hand, I can understand how think tanks with the brightest minds could help solve the problems of the world and we are not a democracy but a republic.  But quotes from Rockefeller (mastermind) concern me as it does not sound like representative government:

This quote from Rockefeller also appears problematic: "We are grateful to the Washington Post, The New York Times, Time Magazine and other great publications whose directors have attended
our meetings and respected their promises of discretion for almost forty years.  "It would have been impossible for us to develop our plan for the world if we had been subjected to the lights of publicity during those years.  But, the world is now more sophisticated and prepared to march towards a world government. The supranational sovereignty of an intellectual elite and world bankers is surely preferable to the national auto-determination practiced in past centuries."

World events being broadcast as the biggest problems in the controlled mass media across countries all appear to have added the "global" tag line.  What are the biggest propaganda pieces that have been pushed recently?  Global Terrorism, Global Swine Flu, Global Financial Collapse, and Global Warming.  The definition of terrorism is to use scare tactics for political ends (look it up) and these are tools of the PRS system.

If that is the case, and these issues are promulgated (Kissinger's quote of fear of a promulgated outside threat making people yield their sovereignty) then who are the real terrorists?  "Never let a crisis go to waste."  I am concerned with exchanges like ICE that are off shore, unregulated by a government, if posession is 9/10ths of the law then I am very concerned.

There are a few ridiculous conspiracy theories thrown in just to throw people off the scent - very clever.  The faked moon landing is clearly a canard and designed to make it appear that all "conspiracy theories" are equally plausible or ridiculous - each one must be evaluated based on facts and motivation.  Quite a few Vice Presidents have been implicated in the assasinations of previous presidents.  A recent video that was just released had Jack Ruby stating on video that LBJ did it (not personally), his mistress stated the same, and a dying CIA agent basically stated the same thing.  Crop circles are also man made and there is no proof of alien life forms (if you didn't get the memo).

Let's start with the idea that people are generally selfish (preservation instinct) and want more influence/power.  Also understand that sometimes countries do things that they don't want to see the light of day - it is called plausible deniability and is often done for purposes of geopolitical advantage.  This could benefit all individuals within a country and not just for the sole benefit of a few oil companies.  Would you want to pay $20 per gallon for oil?

There are a few quotes to understand power "All political power comes from the barrel of a gun", "Talk softly and carry a big stick", "He who has the gold makes the rules", "Give me the power to mint money and I care not who makes the rules", "might makes right".

If one is an independent thinker with a detective like ability to be open minded and ask the right questions despite the emotional response you might have, you most likely can find the truth.  Use the five trusty questions for evaluating anything: who, what, when, where, and why.  I have found that very few individuals are truly objective, most people make an emotional decision and then try to back up their decision with logic.

This is exactly why I prefer reading ZH.  What is at issue ... is the news.  ZH continues to bring topics that invite discussion and opinion from a global audience that is unafraid to question any establishment.

The existence of central banks is not hidden.  Fiat currencies and debt ridden nations are not myths.  I listened as a friend tried to explain the nature of the Great Depression.  His insights covered most of the major events with some degree of historical accuracy.  And I am reminded of the notion, people believe what they want to believe.  And they want to believe that they are right.

"In order to form a more perfect Union" is a process that will take time.  Our Constitution was written by terrorists that openly wielded arms against their sovereign King.  At the time, the world was a dark place.  This experiment in freedom has inspired the greatest enlightenment in world history, and has demonstrated it's superiority to all other forms of government ... twice.

I am a fourth generation American.  I'm not white.  I don't call my self American-European.  I don't reference my grandparents heritage in Germany or Ireland.  I'm simply an American ... a human being capable of reason and thought, who has concluded for himself that the processes of our democracy that have established our Republic trump all others.  And like any good citizen of the world ... I want to share the blessings of liberty.

I am deeply concerned about the main stream media (Associated Press).  I began reading the USA Today when I was barely 8 years old in 1982.  I read newspapers for the next 22 years every single day ... and what I discovered was, I could debate international politics while my generation could recite the lyrics to Boy George (no offense implied).

Our nation has chosen to debase the truth.  The ideas that are true are seen as antiquated concerns of the tin foil hat brigade.  "All is well!  All is well!" They chant.

I collect the free money they throw my way.

I donate my time and money to providing for the sick and needy.

And I never argue with their interpretations of the truth.  In time, the truth will out.

Shhhhhh no talkie talk about 911!!

But since were on the subject, both sides agree that WTC 7 was imploded.  Does any one have an idea how long it takes to wire up a building for demolition?  In order for it to collapse on itself?  It's not a two day affair with a couple of strategically placed fire crackers.  In order to do in the short time period the building would have to been pre-wired.  Pre-wired when initially built, pre-wired shortly before 911? No idea.  If WTC 7 was pre wired, why not WTC 1 and 2?  Also if you get a chance rent the DVD "Man on Wire".  It's about Philippe Petit's tightrope walk between the two towers.  It shows some vintage film when the towers were being built.  The size of the steel beams are incredible.  If a burning plane with all it's fuel caused this building to collapse at free fall speed perfectly into itself.....well lets just say that people living and working in hi rise buildings should be concerned.  If the building toppled or came down erratically then I would have an easier time dismissing the truthers.  There's no way the structure could have given way so equally that the building came straight down.  When you think about the timing of explosives that is required to get a building to implode, just the sequencing of taking out specific reinforcements and this happened not once but twice?

i second "man on wire".  what an powerfully beautiful film that was.  and yes, it blows 'loose change' away on the common sense tip.   someone's hiding something.  far be for me to say that what they're hiding is that those buildings were not built like they said they were, but then those people should be held accountable for their criminal negligence yes?

fact is that after 8 1/2 years and 3,000 people dead and hundreds of billions 'spent' and an entire city still being gripped by fear & panic & paranoia thinly veiled under the surface, not one single person has been brought to justice.  not one.   guess that makes me a conspiracy theorist for wondering why that is.  so be it.

speaking of which, since this is a finance site, anyone know anyone in finserv that got deputized?  if so, i'm curious, did they get one of those shiny blazing saddles badges?

"Another interesting fact came from an October 19, 2001, San Francisco Chronicle article that the SEC, after a long silence, took the unprecedented action of deputizing hundreds of private officials in this investigation. Lest you think this posse of high-level private sector players would get the bad guys, think again.

As former LAPD Detective, author of Crossing the Rubicon, Michael Ruppert points out, “What happens when you deputize someone in a national security or criminal investigation is that you make it illegal for them to disclose publicly what they know. Smart move. In effect, they become government agents and are controlled by government regulations rather than their own conscience.

“In fact, they can be thrown in jail without a hearing if they talk publicly. I have seen this implied threat time and again with federal investigations, intelligence agents, and even members of the United States Congress who are bound so tightly by secrecy oaths and agreements that they are not even able to disclose criminal activities inside the government for fear of incarceration.”

It doesn't take that long to wire up a building for implosion.

Stadia and large structures take longer due to their horizontal footprint.  A standard box skyscraper isn't that difficult...seriously.  The companies that lay charges do these things all the time.  They have an orthodoxy to it.

My hypothesis is that WTC7 was pulled because of collapse risk.  We can argue that the other 2 shouldn't have collapsed as they were still, but they did.  So maybe the same crap construction was present..who knows?  Maybe the foundations were substandard and the building would have fallen anyhow.  Maybe the foundations were damaged by the other 2 collapses.

I saw no damage points whatsoever in WTC7 from which a collapse could have ensued.  It imploded in a manner consistent with a controlled pull, simple as that.  Perhaps it was a freak thing and it pulled itself.  But to wire it up to come down in an afternoon emergency is not impracticable.

Of course there is another possibility; that *all* tall buildings in close proximity to other structures are secretly prewired for remote demolition as a safety precaution. That would be a difficult secret for the officialdom to admit; that someone, somewhere has the doomsday key.

For me the crux of the 9/11 conspiracy issue is the same as I encountered with housing blogs in 2005/6. One side was just smarter, better researched, fewer personal attacks, more coherent arguments, less conflicted baggage, just more believable to any intelligent critical thinking person willing to look at the issue without preconceived prejudice. What really haunts me now, is the hindsight of how wrong the "housing experts" turned out to be and what this implies for our sovereign authority. After reviewing 9/11 conspiracy theories all these years, a quick read of the official debunking site scared the hell out of me.

"Perhaps it was a freak thing and it pulled itself.  But to wire it up to come down in an afternoon emergency is not impracticable." Listen to yourself. If it was officially pulled, how come the building owner recanted his statement that it was pulled telling us that he was referring to pulling firemen out who actually were already out? How come the government and media do not tell us it was pulled? How come the BBC pulled its tape announcing that it had gone down 15 mins before it actually did? Because they know the industry could debunk the imploded on an afternoons notice with the greatest of ease.

In a research paper released by University of Chicago Law School in 2008 scientists concludes that most conspiracy theories are harmful for the society and are security risks to be taken serious by governments. The two professors, Cass R. Sunstein and Adrian Vermeule, suggest that the authorities should produce more conspiracy theories rather than trying to prove the old ones wrong.

“Government can minimize this effect by rebutting more rather than fewer theories, by enlisting independent groups to supply rebuttals, and by cognitive infiltration designed to break up the crippled epistemology of conspiracy-minded groups.”

For those interested. A follow up to 'Confessions of an Economic Hitman' is another book called, 'A Game as Old as Empire'. Instead of being written by just 1 author, this follow up book has many authors.

Surprisingly, it even has a Foreward written by an ex-RBA governor, although Wikipedia does not list that person. A rather interesting ommisson:

I think the point of all this is the US governments' credibility as anything other than a govt for the money power or 'special interests' is widely damaged within in its own country..be it financial markets or events leading to ridiculously long wars that are bankrupting the entire nation.  The bottom line is the value of the dollar is based on the 'faith and credit' of the US govt which is the most heavily indebted nation in history and filled with poisonous lies about what they are doing or not doing and a plethora of subjects.  Public trust took the hit on 911 and its been tumbling down ever since.

The thing about Obama's birth certificate is even if he WAS born in Hawaii I doubt they could come up with a iron clad document.

Hawaii was making the transition from a territory without the sort of documentaion the rest of the US used to a State. They were handing out birth certificates to anybody who walked up and asked for them because everybody needed them to be able to conduct business in the US. How else do you bring a population that was not traditionally documented into a system?

As to why his mother would seek such a thing for little Barry I offer two reasons:

First, she was married or at least shacked up with a Muslim. If you have been around them you would know they have a nasty habit of disappearing one morning with the kids and by the time you wonder why they are not coming home to dinner they are in Yemen with the mother-in-law taking care of the kids. You'll never pry them back loose.

Second, she was of the political persuation that would seek to document him as a resident because of entitlement. He would be qualified to get on any new state programs for benefits if he was a citizen.

No need to theorize she was looking decades ahead. There was sufficient reason to falsify it at the time.

Does it matter? No. Anybody who could really prove it is probably dead by now. If I could prove it I sure wouldn't say anything.

SCOTUS nominee, Elena Kagan has similar views on conspiracies, free speech etc.

Here is an article from the Harvard Law School where Sunstein reinforces his extreme views and where Kagan endorses Sunstein in the strongest of language. (Note that Sunstein was/and will continue to be a potential SCOTUS canditate as well.

Introducing Sunstein before the talk, Dean Elena Kagan ’86 described him as “the world’s pre-eminent legal scholar,” one who “challenges our assumptions and changes the way we think about legal issues.”

and here she boasts about Sunstein

Elena Kagan, Harvard's law school dean, was ecstatic about the move, describing Sunstein in a press release as "the pre-eminent legal scholar of our time—the most wide-ranging, the most prolific, the most cited and the most influential."

"If I could add only one person to the faculty, Cass (Sunstein) would be that person," Kagan says.

and on another front over at the FCC

The Obama administration refuses to take no for an answer in its desire to control the Internet. ... FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski responded last week by proposing a "third way" around the court decision: He will redefine the Internet as if it were a telephone.

Tyler,

A little editorial discretion is in order. This kind of thing has no place on Zerohedge and diminishes its credibility.

Regardless of how I feel on these specific issues (and I am well educated in the ways of government deceit, so I'm not debating the perspective being offered) I don't come here for this.

I know zerohedge is not trying to be The Wall Street Journal, but standards need to be set for rigor and relevancy. I'd rather read Reggie Middleton or Eric Sprott or Peter Schiff than fluff pieces about conspiracy theories.

Thank the great Jammy Chammy that our great leaders in the USSA have made the story stick this time.  It's pretty compelling to me. After all why would the State department lie to 600 million people.  As some of my neighbors  say: "Wut wee need in this cunt-tree is mo' patriotism!"  or my favorite during a local parade: "What you mean the Sheriff don't need that 1.5 million dollar terrorist assault vehicle?, Yah know 'they're' here!"... then looking to the left and right. (Me hoping some poor Indian Sikh wearing a turban is not unlucky enough to be walking down the sidewalk past this redneck at the time.)

Just as I thought, this post attracted the conspiracy theory faithful.  Re the depleted uranium, here is... "the rest of the story" from Wikipedia.  "DU is useful because of its very high density of 19.1 g/cm3. Civilian uses include counterweights in aircraft, radiation shielding in medical radiation therapy and industrial radiography equipment, and containers used to transport radioactive materials. Military uses include defensive armor plating and armor-piercing projectiles."  These really are evil dudes if they are putting their own soldiers in dangerous "armor plated" vehicles.  "The World Health Organization states that no consistent risk of reproductive, developmental, or carcinogenic effects have been reported in humans.[9][10] "  Really, really deep cover conspiracy, obviously.  Don't get me wrong.  I enjoy reading this stuff, particularly the comments, for comic relief.
