Holy shit. This is very bad indeed.
HAARPFLATION BITCHEZ
Meanwhile in Bahrain - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=D9W_-0uGN1E&feature=player_embedded&skipcontrinter=1
Meanwhile Yen cross nearing 80...doesn't seem overly bullish nor does Tokyo becoming a ghost town seem overly bullish.
but, but, but, CKGB just told me that even if it's the end of the world, the economic recovery is intact. Sho nuff.
I read a lot about people saying this is a haarp deed. Subhuman scourge if so.
You can also read a lot about people saying that they have seen Elvis.
Elvis was just over at my place yesterday. We smoked a joint and pressed the red HAARP button, just before he hopped into his spaceship and fucked off. Bastard didn't even offer me a ride.
Possible ... but hard to believe that pointing a HF radio wave at a stretch of ocean thousands of miles away (and 100 kilometres offshore, and many kilometres deep into the crust) could compete with a solar mass ejection and, simultaneously, a moon at its closest distance for many decades, when it comes to twisting the earth's crust!
It's also not an isolated earthquake in the area - here is the historic record: http://neic.usgs.gov/neis/eq_depot/2011/eq_110309_b0001r57/neic_b0001r57...
But, who can say for sure?
Yes, and what happens next? The entire island, or at least most of it, should evacuate pronto. The US military will now be called in to dump conrete and lead all over the plant, but would this help? What exactly can be done?
they need to do it now before it gets to bad! who ever flys over those reactors will die from radiation sickness. its Suicide!
They can't even dump water on the thing, so concrete, I don't think so.
Wasteland for quite a while.
I said the disaster would cause prices to rise and plants to be taken offline, for that I got junked:

Don't bother trying to understand why you get junked on this site. I get junked every time I defend muni bonds. I think some people here want anarchy. My guess is I will get junked for saying that.
Junk away, Guy Fawkes wannabees...
Junk.

You defend muni bonds and you don't understand why you get junked? Seriously dude? Seriously?
I will take Texas General Obligation bonds over US Treasuries any day.
Seriously, dude. Seriously.
Muni bonds are junk so anyone pushing them should be junked.
Creed, you are not qualified to talk to me about muni bonds. It is patently absurd to lump all muni bonds into one general characterization. GO bonds issued by the State of Texas (e.g.) are not comparable with munis issued by Vallejo, CA. They are nothing alike.
Do some research before making uneducated comments.
It is even worse than what they are telling people about. The media is not mentioning the small fact that one of the reactors has Mox fuel in it. Which is 2 million xs worst than normal uranium fallout.

I will get to know more new information. Even the website layouts and the designs impress me a lot.

Run, bitchez.
And the separate spent fuel pool (a separate building from the reactors) at Daiichi - how is that doing?
Here's a link to a PPT that descibes on-site nuclear fuel storage at Daiichi (Fukashima I) site:
http://www-ns.iaea.org/downloads/rw/conferences/spentfuel2010/sessions/s...
One can also determine the quantity of fuel rods/casks at the Daiichi site (and maybe even the number of fuel rods at each individual building and reactor) by paying attention to the charts showing what can be stored where ...
I'd offer the same advice to all inhabitants of earth.
Yeah, but the planet is round.

Where did Math Man and trav go?
the Hazmat Sale
I think Trav had a nervous breakdown, also he hadn't slept for 2 days. I asked him yesterday if he ever slept. He was ZHing at all hours.
I suspect they take turns rotating personnel through the "Trav" disinfo desk.
I'm also not entirely sure that's a joke.
I suspect "Trav" has multiple IDs as well.
to build on CD's post from earlier thread... maybe Harry, Hamy and the Travs pulled a Carradine Jones Town. Go out with a swing!
I <3, Trav!
Right here - with some useful information
http://www.nytimes.com/interactive/2011/03/12/world/asia/the-explosion-a...
Rather than the fear-mongering that passes for news at ZH.
Nothing like two day old information in a situation where events on the ground have outstripped even the article's information. Notice that there is no discussion about spent fuel pools in the article nor any mention of plutonium.
But thanks for the effort. Two Gold stars for you. Please pick them up on your way out.
But they're made out of PAPER.
Eh, same thing.
It will be interesting to see how long it takes the Corporate Media to pick up the MOX fuel issue. Not that it isn't interesting enough to see the Corporate Media play stupid about a minimum of 6 reactors/spent fuel pools going up in the very near future . . .
The American nuclear industry crying Not Fair! about "exploitive individuals with political agendas taking advantage" of the situation is just a surreal sideshow.
To date, the fear mongering has proved correct.
Is there such a thing as truth-mongering?
Sure - I look to ZH to deliver it. Refresh every 15 minutes or so, too.
that IS funny...yesterday whenever trav was mentioned he appeared immediately with a scathing utterance
now it's methman
it's almost as if they work together
Professional (and governmental, but more and more it's being outsourced) disinfo agents have some interesting snooping software that alerts them to certain phrases and words wherever the software is directed towards.
<cough> Not that I'm accusing anyone of anything. <cough>
Mathman, check the cubicle on your right. I think Trav777 has fallen asleep. Get him some Red Bull.

Won't you take me where the streetlights glow
I could hear it coming

Does anybody have information about the status of
Rokkasho Reprocessing Plant
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rokkasho_Reprocessing_Plant
It was reported to be run in emergency cooling by diesel Generators on Saturday too.
And they where speaking about stored Fuelrods from about 25-30 Powerplants in it.
Oh, wonderful. thanks for the post; that's another thing I didn't know anything about. Reprocessing is very good; but less so if you can't keep electricity and water turned on. Hopefully, this place will be able to idle along alright.
That's a good question; we looked at that yesterday with no news via a Google news search then ...
True,
but i hope someone who is reading this, have any kind of information about it.
Maybe this is the pink Elephant on Stage no one is looking for until it is too late.

Well about fucking time.
I live in the vicinity of Gravelines - bring it on.
China Syndrome bitches.
"
The China Syndrome is a term coined by an American physicist in 1971 to describe the hypothetical result of a severe nuclear meltdown in which molten reactor core components penetrate their containment vessel and building and melt through the crust of the Earth (possibly penetrating deeply enough to reach a point on the other side of the world). The veracity of this hypothesis remains strongly contested.

Something fun to think about while you're trying to catch some shuteye tonight.
and it was also a damn fine film. Jack Lemmon was brilliant.
it was a steaming pile of agitprop. Odd that it coincided with the TMI event, too. How's that for stoking the conspiracy theory fires?
exactly. libtards beat off to that movie.
Quick, get a globe. Where is this one coming out?

Forget melting through.
The real terror comes when it hits the water table...and that can't be far down given the location of the facility.
We need a Mythbusters episode on this topic.
+100
we need a mythbusters episode on that bust
It only goes down until it hits the water table. Then there is a spectacular explosion.
Just posted the same above.
And since this has never happened on live TV, it should be an interesting object lesson, no?
The devolution will not be televised!
All the actual nuclear engineers agree that the core can't melt through the bottom of the really thick steel tank that's it in. This is the kind of thing that is subject to calculation and I don't see this as being in error. The "other" fuel elements in the "cooling room", I refuse to call it a pool; it's a goddam room in a building; are not protected by anything; they are sort of like, in your garage, basically.
All the nuclear engineers also said that 6 reactors melting down at the same time couldn't happen either.
And some brilliant MIT Professor wrote an exhaustive essay titled "What? Me Worry?"
Yeah, I'm thinking the same thing...said it couldn't happen
What would happen if it breached the concrete floor and headed south would be an interesting speculative exercise...even if of the asshat variety.
My question is, Once it reached the center of the earth, what would make it keep going? Not gravity.
Won't really go all the way through.
The phrase China Syndrome is hyperbole.
It will hit the water table first if it goes through the concrete floor.
Did they have an explanation for it in the movie? Never saw it.
The currents of liquid hot magma would take over long before it got to the center.
The chewy, nougaty center.
"possibly penetrating deeply enough to reach a point on the other side of the world"
Just because some idiot posted that on Wikipedia doesn't make it so.
No physicist ever seriously said anything as stupid as this.

It was only a matter of time until 5 and 6 were disclosed as having problems. Once they admitted to 4, which was already down for maintenance, 5 and 6 which we also down for maintenance were obvious candidates for problems.
They were candidates for problems when, 1) they were nuclear reactors, 2) an 8.9 quake hit, 3) a tsunami washed over. 4) other reactors in the same complex are melting down. Its not like it is a big cover-up.
I was talking about when they were "officially" disclosed as problems. It was obvious when unit one exploded that all were now in play. However the apologist and disinfo agents on ZH were making sure to shout down anyone who even discussed the possibility of this type of escalation as hysterical and fear mongers.
They now seem to be missing from the discussion. I hope they come back real soon to backpedal.
Sorry for the attack. Seems like we are aimed in the same direction. I do note, you are no stranger to being attacked and are one of the best making your way through.
edit: ever since Bond tossed me in my own reactor, I have never taken safety around these things for granted.
I was never sure if your glow was natural Karma or radiation. Thanks for clearing that up.
Now I know Dr. No. :>)
Most, if not all, of the disinformation was posted about the way the nuclear reactors are designed to work. I think these "disinfo" slingers will be proven more correct than incorrect - as it pertains to what is in the nuclear reactors. I think nothing more than low-level problems will come from this source, even if the pellets melt and fall to the floor of the container. Don't think there is enough heat left to melt through the floor. But we will see, won't we.
The trouble is mostly comming from the spent fuel-rod rooms/pools. I don't think anybody has spread disinformation about the radiation danger these spent fuel rods pose when they lose their water covering. I think some are being overly optomistic about the average man's ability to get proof of high radiation readings out to the world in the face of the Japanese government's clamp-down on news distribution.
Hi RichardP.
Disinformation is so much more than just spreading actual disinformation. It is first and foremost a psyops program designed to disrupt and demoralize, to create division and argument. This is the definition I use when I mention disinfo.
It is also why I refer to disinfo agents rather than disinformation. I am talking about a process and a technique rather than specific information.
I agree. Still, I don't remember much argument in support of the cooling pools being safe. But with so much to read, I may be just not remembering correctly.
And Fukushima Plant 2 (4 reactors) now has a 10km exclusions zone.
Uh, welcome to Saturday afternoon?
Really.
What's the latest?
I'm just listening to the TEPCO press conference in NHK. In answer to every questions they say we would like to check and will get back to you on the 17th. It's simply astonishing, they seem totally clueless...
CD you may be understating. This could become at least Chernobyl x 4 on the INES scale. Remember, approx. 600 000 spent fuel rods oxidizing (no such thing in Chernobyl), plus 1 reactor with plutonium (no 2), plus other sites. And all of them are escalating according to worst case scenarios.
If Chernobyl was rated a 7, this accident could become:
7x4 = 28, plus 6x4=24 for the rods at all plants burning into the atmosphere, plus the other issues at other sites, let's say 4 sites with issues ranging from 1-3, average 2, which is 4 x 2 = 8 in total. Add another 7 for the release of plutonium.
Sum = 28 + 24 + 8 + 7 = 67. And this is on a scale from 1 to 7. And what about all those other sites which are not big news.
I am deliberately understating because I am not an expert and I have no more info than anyone else on this thread and probably less than some. Plus I really don't wish to be an alarmist. So I stick to what I can see in the photos and I dabble in some thoughtful extrapolation and speculation.
But thanks for noticing my stated understatement. Can I panic now? Who's in charge of the panic button? :>)
I am not as alarmed about these as compaired to Chernobyl, perhaps due to ignorance. Chernobyl did not have a containment building and so the core exploded and ejected materials to the outside world and was able to melt down until fuel was gone.
I assume the japanese reactors have semi-modern containment buildings. Additionally, I assume the engineers incharge of designing containment building did some rough calculations on heat and pressure when designing containment buildings. Assuming the buildings were built to specs, it should not melt through. Otherwise they should be called semi-containment buildings. (which they could be I guess).
You do know all the containment buildings have holes in them because of the hydrogen explosions, right? They are no longer containment buildings.
The fuel at Chernobyl isn't gone, it'll take billions of years for it to "go away"... seriously do some research before you blather on about things you know nothing about.
Dude, take it easy. So I didnt spend 5 paragraphs stating the process of uranium rods, when under a controlled chain reaction, release boat loads of heat, and to stop the reaction and reduce heat generation, blah, blah, blah, I used the words "fuel" and "gone". Perhaps I should have said "until heat generation subsided enough for it to stop melting everything on gods green earth". Happy?
You weren't alarmed by Chernobyl, because you were totally unaware until the worst had happened....
I do find humor in these posts. Several posters have shown criticism in my attempt to communicate my feeling that the Japan nuke disaster will be less than the Chernobyl event, eventhough my original response was to a poster who stated the Japan event should be a rated a 67 when the Chernobyl event is listed as a 7.
speechless
What is "core damage?" Have the rods in any of the cores fused together yet? If that's what they mean by "core damage" then we have major big time problems. If on the other hand they just mean exposed rods and misalignment then that's still bad but better as there are still things that can be done. If the cores are fusing or have already fused there is very little that can be done past that point except wait for them to break containment or put mass on top of them to squelch the explosion that will occurr when they burn down to the ground water.
Speculation is that enough time has gone by that the rods may be hot enough to melt but not hot enough to melt through the much thicker floor. We are going to find out whether that is true or not.
Go Go Gojira!!!

The article linked above says the PM stormed into a meeting of an executive meeting of Tokyo Electric Power Co. and demanded to know, “What the hell is going on?”
This is not good. This means that as the country prepares to melt down, communication between the people who should be providing solutions have melted down as well.
That could be damage control propoganda for the PM.
