HFTs Take On European Bankrupt Penny Stocks

Tyler Durden's picture

HFT tentacles have spread across the ocean and are now toying with bankrupt German retailer Arcandor. The company's stock opens up 30%, then drops 30% in a span of minutes, with 30% of the market cap traded...on no news.

Speaking of CNBS - it not just a recovery it's a SOLID ECONOMIC recovery.

"

Housing starts rose in August to their highest level in nine months and the number of people filing of unemployment benefits fell last week, evidence a solid economic recovery was underway.

Yep. Nice how they're glossing over the fact that single-family home construction was weak compared to multi-family m/o/m.  Oh, and it looks as though another upward channel is being constructed as we speak.  15 minutes after the open.  Yeah...

When the rats find their hole crowded with their own feces, they find another hole to live in. Cleaning your own house is for peons.

Looks like they are taking their money out of the PM juniors today in order to get in on some of this action.  Strikes me as a little odd, considering silver is up, gold is flat, market is up, and credit markets are back open to the Jrs.

What am I thinking...  if they don't move 10% over the course of a day, it's time to bail and find something that will.  Took me a minute to grasp it.

actually there were rumors that Metro AG would be willing to take over part of Arcandor's Karstadt retail shops a few days ago. From a low of 18 cents to 76 cents, staggering volume. I don't know if flash traders are involved - but I agree the whole market is being manipulated right now, it just doesn't make sense.
