A Higher Percentage of Americans Believed in King George During the Revolutionary War than Believe in Congress Today
Influential Harvard and Stanford law professor Lawrence Lessig noted in a must-watch speech last week that polls show that only 11% of the American people have confidence in Congress.
He notes that more people believed in King George at the time of the Revolutionary War than believe in congress today.
He's right.
Historians have estimated that between 15 and 20% of the white population of the colonies were Loyalists
Watch:
Why do so few Americans today believe in our government? Because the government is serving the giant corporations and the ultra-wealthy, and not Main Street and the common American. And see this.

Every revolution is a bit messy.
I still believe Alexander Hamilton was right in supporting the requirement to own property to vote. He said that those who didnt have property would just vote to take it from those that do.
It is the same reason we require people to be stockholders to vote in corporate elections. Without an ownership interest eople tend to vote just out of pure short term self interest.
""Every revolution is a bit messy.""
“Forgive me, I must start by pointing out that three years after our horrific financial crisis caused by financial fraud, not a single financial executive has gone to jail, and that's wrong.”

In "Starship Troopers" (the book, NOT the movie!), only those that served in the Military were given the vote.
And how many votes would you get relative to your propety value?
You might feel good filling out those proxies and sending them in, but unless your sahres add up to a notable percentage of the total, your vote means jack.
What we really need is a requirement that ONLY real live voters can make political contributions. No corps, no unions, no PACS, no forereigners. One person, one vote, and only voters making contributions.
Take about 80% of the dollars out of the political process and everything would change.
eleven Bravo!
I'll finish it for ya: "VOTE!"
examples (from depleted memory, but you'ch can look id up)
- LBJ as a young political wannabee in TX: writing down names in the cemetary, stops at the old part. Old pol says 'git in there boy. Them folks have as much right to vote as anyone else aroud here.'
- Joe Kennedy Sr. on JFK win: "I was willing to pay for a victory in IL, I wasn't willing to pay for a landslide."
- RAH proposed that only veterans could vote. Why? 'Because it works'
etc.
- Ned
What the US Justice Dept. is doing with regards to soldiers overseas votes being counted is travesty.
Everyone around here is taking names.
otoh, our SecState here (MA) seems to be doing the correct thing. Of course, the O/S votes won't swing a fricken' thing, so he can.
I think we should only allow women to vote and no one and nothing else (that's right, i'm including aliens for all you who are "in the know" if you know what i mean.) In fact...I fear it....
lol, I'll second that. Men should only play jock sports...and eat red meat. Never vote except for miss USA!
Yeah! And I'll volunteer at the polling booths to check for authenticity.
Man...ya gotta be quick around here...shoot me a form to fill out ;-)
seems to be a quickfire night
;-)
Seems DP shot himself in the foot unholstering...or his wad, while trying to whip something out...hard to tell sometimes, both can be messy "affairs"...LOL.
Should be entertaining if nothing else.
Gonna go eat & check back with what the lunatic fringe has to say...later.

Great way of defining people's unalienable rights to life...Start by having a two tier civil rights agenda...wow! No land no vote...No freedom, no cry...ever heard of apartheid?
"Great way of defining people's unalienable rights to life..."
As opposed to...say Canada, which was a part of the British Empire and before that France until???...LOL.
Yeah, right.
As opposed to nobody. As opposed to nobody. Finding justification of one's ways in other ways is nice but still it comes with a price. A price that US citizens are not ready to pay as they keep saying their ways are best when they find justification in others' ways.
Countries that did not define unalienable rights to life and co did not have to behave according to something they had not defined nor adopted.
The irony comes when history shows their record to be better than US records when it comes to respect of the so called unalienable rights.
Yet we had this for what, 2/3 of our history? Idiot, expanding the franchise to leeches and non-producers leads to the loss of your rights and property, stolen from you to feed the ticks-just so they vote for the looters. No democracy has existed that didn't murder itself;
I've read of liberals actually proposing that the citizens of other nations be allowed to vote in our (USA) elections, I sh*t you not! And why can't illegals vote? Falek, you win the dumbest post I've yet seen on 0hedge.
Little to do with that. The US has been a big robber since inception. There was plenty outsiders to rob from in 1776. Ask the Indians.
In 2010, there is much less to rob. Or the robbing rate can not be increased as easily as it could during the 19th century.
And after the latest SCOTUS fiasco, how about One Corporation, One Vote!
Well, maybe they should get a vote for each yet to be determined number of shares outstanding. Now that would be the American Way.
Your rights to life liberty and property are inalienable. A $500 one time bond ought to be required to vote. Any time you want your money back and to quit voting no problem.
You should have to care enough to make some.sacrifices in order to vote.
would that be in FRNs or real constitutionally mandated gold/silver backed dollars?
and would those be interest bearing?
As a firm believer in the 1st amendment, I wil defend your right to spout complete and utter horseshit all day long. But you should at least brush your teeth afterward, because your breath is really starting to reek...
Yo, DP,
Quick on the trigger with the cut and paste.
h/t to ya. This is getting a bit o' fun. - Ned
Fastest Trigger in the world.

I am a much faster shot than that guy, ask my girlfriend.
And mine fires in the holster
I'd been hoping this might have been original work; dang.

Beat me to it , Ned. No wonder these fascists want to crush net neutrality; without it their lies are much harder to dispute...
I'm nay the fastest hand in <anywhere>. Not so sure about 'lies' per se. Lotsa' skosh truth blowing around. So pick it up by its stackin swiv... ..er.. 'examine it closely' and compare vs. other information. I've had my little porcine eyes opened on this site (especially about the dangers that ol' Rusty guy has 'splained to me about smoking ;-) with good and ugly cross-talk.
- Ned
Damn... the interwebbie is one hell of a place. But does cribbing from others, which every one does all the time, make the truth any less?
Your guy cribbed it from my guy... or maybe vise versa... Who really cares.

DP, I, nor any of "my guys" (most of "my guys" don't hang around here nor the internet) don't do unattributed cut'n'paste in any forum. In my real life that is one strike and "the security guard will escort you out of the building, sir!"
So I care, when I'm spending my time reading stuff that migh actually be someone's serious thoughts, well considered. I also might wish to have a figh... ..er.. 'vigorous discussion' with someone who knows/cares about a subject. Might even change my mind; certainly make me understand wtf is up with what is actually going on. I'll grant you Hegel masturbation as well.
So, when your cut'n'paste trashes the "Boston Massacre" that I've looked at in some detail (and that John Adams, prig that he was, took on as a sacred duty to defend the Brits), I'd thought to cross swor... ..er.. have a vigorous discussion with you about that.
But we would have been wasting each other's time (and precious ZH scrolling pixels) since, well, you would have given me cut'n'paste answers.
S. comment a throwaway.

{I don't suppose you saw my comment to you on Frederick Douglas a while ago?}
Nobody knows, or cares who anybody really is when posting in blogs on the internet, or what work they have, or have not done over the years and decades.
Did you know that long lost 'geopol' is actually Webster Tarpley? Do you think he always posted 'fresh' comment on ZH to moronic intellectual infidels?
Do you think all one has to do all day is compose and post?
When was the wheel invented?
Should it be reinvented everyday?
Are there really any NEW ideas in the world?
Does any of this blogging shit really matter?
Some thoughts have certain sounds...so, is that one hand clapping between your ears, or a moonstone trying to break out?
unintended, well, DP.
DP: (love the puns that I'm sure we'll be investigating with that!)
Evidently it does to you and your masters. Otherwise, why would you waste your useless life on these blogs?
Inquiring minds wish to know. "what is integrity in what one blogs?" "what does it really matter in the long run?"
Should one post comments that pertain to the current discussion? Should those comments be recycles from some zone of <DP skosh reality entry here>?
Why waste your time? What effect are you trying to achieve? Inquiring minds wish to know.
<there can be no disappointment in anticipating failure, only sadness at another wasted human being>
- Ned
Reality is not renewed like that, at every whim by some people.
Facts never grow old. Only propaganda does.
If it didn't matter, you wouldn't be here...
Harry Truman is your hero, huh? The war criminal who got away with it because his side won? Personally, I am ashamed to share citizenship with him and am still amazed at the Stockholm Syndrome displayed by the Japanese.
I'm just glad DP cut and ran off to Canada to avoid the Vietnam draft all those years ago...he seems much happier for it, don't you think?
What with praising his adoptive homeland now all the time...oh wait...he does praise it doesn't he? ;-)
Aw... You are so precious... finally my own troll... my personal Bitch to abuse at will. None other than ZH's in-house 9/11Moron...

Being out of the USSA for the past 40 years gives me a 40X advantage over you and your type.
Let the games begin!
Every debater needs a Foil... and you is mine... Fool.
Whenever you're ready...you polyp on the colon wall of every society you have ever entered in your miserable life...take your best shot.
But you're already down a few right from the get go...my only venture to whoever the hell Quinn is (you maybe?) was your incessant blathering about him and his web site here on ZH...out of curiosity.
The other is your mental delusion & fixation that Indians (you claim Ojibwa if I recall) never conquered or killed members of other tribes and stole their land...it was only Americans who could ever do such things.
Or maybe you want to pick up BI's bullshit banner and run with it for him, cause, ya know...he is gone now...riiight or is he? ;-)
Yeah...why don't we do that...explain for the assembled throng my list below of the throughly discredited.

But of course, it's your move sport...pick one and make your case...bitch.
Again with this old horse? Every person has a fetish but at this point, it looks more like an obsession.
Finding justification in the Indian ways is destroying the US creed as US people did not grow what they became on their own creed but in the Indian creed. Once again, it is far from being the case, US citizens love to laudate their so called ways. If you think the moral ways of Indians have been superior and the result of the US success, then do it and abandon the US creed.
Yours is a very cheap trick of disinformation, another example that 'debate' is dead in the West as more and more people can not discuss facts and have to sidetrack.
The discussion is not about the Indians' ways and their justification but on the US ways and their justifications. No Indians as far as I knew hijacked Humanity as the US did. The US rooted justifications of their actions in so called human rights with all the distortions that followed.
Indians justified their actions on themselves, as people, as an ethnical group of people.
Very different from US citizens who diluted their responsibility as much as they could.
Your a fucking idiot you know that?...and I'll be back for you after work.
This will be the topic, prepare yourself accordingly.

Save yourself the efforts as I can see you coming: you are going to speak about off topic countries.
Countries, equals some countries and not the countries.
;-)

El wrongo double A...you're doing just as good of a job mind reading as DP...which ain't sayin much...LOL.
But since you brought up countries...tell me where you are posting from now & your nationality (you already know mine & where)...then we can proceed, it all ties together.
It will be abundantly clear why I was so pissed at you after reading your last to me.
Edit;
