I have this pet theory that is built upon the Eco 101 concept that all changes in price are predicated on changes in supply and demand – regardless of the market.

Thus, if you could monitor changes in supply in demand for crude oil futures or S&P 500 futures, you would be able to more quickly determine the likelihood of a change in price.

As these markets have shifted from being transacted in trading pits to servers in data-centers, in my mind, it makes sense to point some software at the transactional data being published by these servers, and then simply jump into the market when the software notices changes in supply and demand that meet certain threshold levels.

Price Momentum Algorithms Are Always Lagging Price

Currently, a lot of folks, well at least hedge funds and  prop trading companies, build trading systems based on changes in Price Momentum.

The challenge here is that since changes in price momentum cannot be calculated until after there has already been a change in price, their momentum output is always lagging changes in price.

Wouldn’t it be better to calculate changes in the momentum of the factors that change price, i.e. -Supply & Demand?

Wouldn’t this then offer you an indicator the leads changes in price instead of lagging it?

Wouldn’t this give you the possibility of a trade entry with a better price as you could know in real-time that at any moment price was likely to change at a rate that was significant enough to provide a profitable trade?

In a nutshell, using order flow momentum information as opposed to price momentum information, implies that you have an opportunity to glimpse into changes in price before price actually changes, as opposed using standard momentum indicators to give you a heads up after price has already changed.

Some more info and free real-time charts of order flow momentum can be found here:

SAN FRANCISCO (Associated Press) --

A lawyer says federal authorities are investigating a pilot who posted videos critical of security at San Francisco International Airport.

Santa Ana-based attorney Don Werno, who represents the pilot, said Friday the Transportation Security Administration is looking into whether his client revealed sensitive information.

The TSA declined to answer questions but said in a statement it is responding to the situation and is confident in the airport's security.

The pilot posted several videos on YouTube in late November or early December that showed airport personnel entering secure areas without screening. The videos have since been taken down.

Werno says his client was upset about what he felt is lax security for ground crew working at SFO.

He says the pilot's airline has advised the pilot not to disclose his identity.

A country where its people cannot openly announce Christmas celebrations or festivities in case it causes offence to immigrants.I wonder if they will be so tolerant of us when they are the majority in future?Hmm...I think not.

England was the ultimate beta test for the implementation of globalisation.  Due to geography, but not alone, it keeps its wealth, as there is much value to being an island.  The FIAT Sterling and its lackey the dollar had much to do with it as anything.

The culture has been awesomely intuitive up to this point.  An ability to mimic 20th century music not found by any other than America lent it recent credit.  Its leadership in the industrial revolution was spectacular.  Its bardic culture, from the Gauls to the Celts to the Scots and even the Pics, nevermined the many Welsh, and other south tip ones, furthered myth beyond scope.  But as Hill Clinton mounts her global village, England and the world shrink into ambiguity.

Interesting comment.

The lands that were colonized by the British in the days of yore are still the best countries the mass population wants to immigrate to.

These 'uninhabited' lands you speak of that are left to conquer and colonize are still mostly North America (ex-Mx). UK to a certain extent maybe, its just too damn swell. South America is still too under developed.

Ask any Asian/Indian person and they will jump for joy if you offer a passport to America. Europeans will be more proud and not so obvious about it, but, especially in Central/E Europe, they'll also be straight forward and admit to having a wish of one day becoming a US/Cad citizen.

So, from the viewpoint of your post, all these immigrants coming in and imposing their beliefs - WTF? I understand the comment regarding the aboriginals, but come on, if it wasnt for the English (& partially French) America would be a barren wasteland stuck in the 17th century today. Just something to think about it next time you feel angry the British invaded this marvelous piece of land.

Interesting "something". Ask any Asian/Indian, Central/E European and they would jump for joy at the chance to become one of you? Really? Well, I'd guess if you asked the poor, the uneducated, the bankrupt, and the criminals living in these areas if they would like to go to Mars, I'd bet a lot of them would jump at the chance too even when you point out they wouldn't last 30 seconds in the Martian atmosphere. N.America ain't Utopia, bud. Only the very desperate and the very stupid believe in the Disney version of America.

Disease, alcohol, brutality and treachery associated with European expansion in America are nothing to be proud of. Turning a stunningly beautiful country into one giant polluted shit hole populated by individuals who hate and distrust each other as much as they are paranoid and deluded about the outside ain't so peachy either. Just something to think about the next time you feel the need to post imaginary revisionist bullshit to annoy people who have been wronged by invaders. What's done is done - but don't ever sneer at the native Americans who never had the chance for greatness on their own terms.

PS: "In days of yore"??? Is that around Ye Olde Lunchtime? How sad that some of these freakin' N.American mongrels pretend to have European heritage instead of the proud and beautiful American heritage of their own continent.

American original: Beautifully put, thank you! Exactly what I meant by "the proud and beautiful American heritage of their own continent." Even on the surface the American continent has a fantastic and rich prehistory that is a unique treasure in the annals of mankind. I don't have the foggiest idea why some twatty wannabe faux-euro N.American mongrels (Present company excepted from this vulgarity) have to spit and sneer at the native Americans who deserve the respect due to one's nation's ancestors. Any N.American who has no respect for the first people of his own fucking continent deserves every word of derision I can throw at him. Many common immigrants,

(free, indentured/slave),

wholeheartedly embraced native society/system/custom from the earliest times of the corporatist colonization of NA, by European elites.

John Ralston Saul in his recent book...

A Fair Country, Telling Truths about Canada (Viking)

...argues that Canada is a Métis Nation, heavily influenced and shaped by aboriginal ideas: egalitarianism, a proper balance between individual and group, and a penchant for negotiation over violence are all aboriginal values that Canada absorbed.  Obstacles to progress, Saul argues, is that Canada has an increasingly ineffective fascist minority, a corporate/colonial non-intellectual business elite that doesn’t believe in Canada. It is critical that to recognize these aspects of the country in order to rethink its future.

"Canada... (and the world)... is in trouble because it has been untethered from its aboriginal moorings."

YHC, re this comment and the one above.

Your points are understood, yet i think my post is taken out of context if you believe i sneer at the people of origin in the New World simply for fun. My point was that America NEEDED outsiders such as the Europeans to colonize, develop, and exploit the resources available in this land. Granted, there is no proof what would have been if the Aboriginals were left alone to do as they please, but it is an absolute dream to think some other nation (Spain, Portugal were hot on Britian's tail!) wouldn't have came to do the same. With such a vast land available and the population practically nil, it was only a matter of time before the Indians received unwelcome (?) guests.

As for "Disease, alcohol, brutality and treachery", if i look at some of the land up North (Yukon, NWT) that was left to Natives, i see a lot of the same unfortunately. However i believe in survival of the fittest, so i guess the smartest Natives are on casino resorts in the warmth (Southern US).

While i was born here, i appreciate how it was solely due to my immigrant parents who wanted to live in a better land, and am proud of the lax immigration that used to be in the previous decades which further helped colonize the continent. You can be upset at the fact of the matter which is that, so far, there are still way more opportunities in the Americas (South included) than there are on any other continent, or keep on believin your own.

Sat, 12/25/2010 - 13:46 | 829804 chumbawamba
chumbawamba's picture

Just one SMALL question:

Why did the resources in this land NEED to be exploited?  The indigenous had a pretty decent thing going, living in harmony with nature before Pale Face showed up to exploit the place into oblivion.

There comes a time when you need to wonder: am I God's ultimate expression of life?  Or am I just one small part of a greater whole?

Do you think the louse crawling around in your hair understands itself to be the ultimate epitome of existence?  Or is it aware that it is merely a guest on a much larger host in a universe more vast than it can possibly comprehend?

I am Chumbawamba.

Sat, 12/25/2010 - 15:23 | 829873 ZeroPower
ZeroPower's picture

Well, i suppose the need question comes back to the idea of population expansion for the greater good (otherwise, why would procreation exist?)

The indigenous had a decent thing going on for themselves, sure. But because the Easterners found this to be uncivilized, they brought their own customs (yes, good and bad) to the New World. It was only a matter of time before this land was populated, just as South America is slowly but surely growing and especially Brazil in recent years with its immense FDI from China and USA. If Africa still wasn't so fucked up politically, i suspect there would be a greater focus on attempting to civilize that continent (S.A/Capetown nice example) as well.

Your philosophical point is an important one as well, even more so, however anyone providing a specific answer to that would either be labeled as a fool who knows too much or a great philosopher who knows nothing.

Agreed!

It wasn’t just the church or "society" that squelched the indigenous identity from being celebrated in the vast numbers of us mixed bloods.  It was in my opinion as much a pride in identifying with persons that individually constructed / produced or acheived various worthwhile contributions that could be confirmed in recorded history as having occurred.

Words are very powerful tools.  Language, especially the written word can be more important than weapons and civilization’s use of them is in direct proportion to the degree of achieving the ethereal attributes of deity, i.e. power, wealth, wisdom, strength, glory, honor and blessing.

Most ab-originals had limited communication skills in comparison to the use of recorded thoughts and ideas that accompanied the early settlers that landed on this continent’s shores.  Not that I discount the effectiveness of gunpowder, I just think when discussing basic, foundational building blocks, common language and the ability to record, store, communicate and transmit coherent thoughts truthfully need to be assigned a prominent place in the discussion. Imho.

And the word became flesh and dwelt among us...

Many natives had to use a basic 'blend-in or die' survival strategy given the extreme dangers of the times.  Today, after seven generations an 'out of the closet' native rebirth is occurring of immense importance.  The Haida are one of the best examples locally.

"Words are very powerful tools."

Yes

The importance of far into the future vision, thinking, and communication of what is best for the still unborn generations.

Now... many generations later my eldest son has just been accepted at Osgoode Hall Law after graduating from McGill.  His great grand father, who lived in Northern Michigan, was functionally illiterate, deprived of a meaningful education, and yet some how passed down his survival instincts.  So much for the many, and still current, false assumptions about 'Savages' and their genetic potential.

I'm going to watch Black Robe again. (Hell... enough typing and thinking already... it's X-Mess).

I built and sail an 18' Cedar Strip Catamaran on the outer coast and interior lakes of BC over the past 25 years. I just love to see canoes used in the wilderness where they were meant to be.

Have you watched it yet?  What Ya think?

…Have you watched it yet? What Ya think?..

Sorry, I haven’t. I logged a bit of time with National Treasure though. Despite the corniness, there are a few lines like the remarks regarding the Declaration of Independence, ‘people don’t speak like that anymore, let alone believe it’ that I find compelling.

There was foresight in their writings, room for growing, developing and adapting. However, even with the recordation of their thoughts, blending and compromises in their collective reasoning, seems to me the emphasis on individual freedom and protecting the vulnerable is still as valuable and prevalent concern today as it was then.

I don’t think there is much room for believing limited genetic potential for “Savages” or any race of Homo sapiens, though individuals within such designations may of course, either through in-breeding or other misfortune have limited potential. This in no way reduces their value; it may only by definition prevent their ability to perform tasks as expertly as another given the same training.

As your eldest son is about to embark on an education in law would indicate, it would appear your seeming pride in this accomplishment at the 7th or 2nd generation from a more primitive existence shows a value judgment that you would prefer this course for him rather than paddling around in a canoe depending on inherited survival instincts.

I have a sister that practices law in OK where her expertise is in indigenous adoptions and I can say the law there is exceptionally sensitive to these issues. Interesting times, it’s not always right vs. wrong, but good vs. better and ideally, best.

I like William Wallace’s one word description of “best”, - Freedom!

ZeroPower, surely your handle does not indicate the strength of your cognition of reality?

Try this for size...

A look at the last 500 years or more of world history will show that many more red, black, brown, yellow and sundry other hued peoples died at the hands or the wits of the white men than the other way around. In fact, while I can present no numbers, I’m sure the ratio would be staggering.
If you throw in direct consequences of white on colour actions (Buffalo Slaughter, Forced Language conversion, forced religious conversion, divide and rule, small pox in blankets, the grind-you-into-the-dust-rial revolution and all it’s associated horrors, chemical/literal/figurative/cultural pollution…..the list is long and odorous/onerous), it becomes staggeringly clear that the white population (in proportion) has grown all out of proportion to it’s original carrying capacity.
We always speak of absolute numbers in population statistics, whereas the real numbers that matter are relative.

Now a population of any space is supported by a certain natural resource smorgasboard, suited to because it sprang from the local, could naturally support a certain, limited population. Nature, left to her own devices, understands balance, or it would/could not be.
Which skin colour, if you could be so objective, has grown all out of proportion to it’s available resource base?
Of course and without a doubt, the world’s white population. To deny that even momentarily, is to deny an obvious, slap-in-your-face reality.
May I suggest this site for some in-sight…
http://www.globalchange.umich.edu/globalchange2/current/lectures/human_pop/human_pop.html#Past
But even there, you cannot see the dis-proportionate rise of the white population as a percentage of world population, especially accounting for the fact of their original, natural environment’s Carrying Capacity, over the past 500 years, especially since the start of the industrial revolution.

See this and be staggered into realization, you should be…

That, is an in-convenient truth.

The spread of the white spawn has truly been a curse on the rest of humanity. No metric over the last 500 years (specifically from just before the start of the Industrial Revolution) will show any material improvement in the “Quality” of human existence while it will show, through the proof of quantity (Live this many “more” years, no accounting for the quality of that medication dependent life-extension as an egregious and oft-quoted example, the rise of “education” and the ability to do complex mathematics (meaningless to the vast majority of people who “study it”) and  transact in english, that vastly fallen spawn of Latin as another) that life somehow got larger or bigger, but surely not better.
In this tipping point period of human history, I think we will find the whip-lash of un-intended but also in-evitable consequences visit upon the white population of the world. I make this statement with no rancour, just a vision. The wheel turns relentlessly, eating AAPLS and HARRY’s along the way.
Look around you and think who will be better positioned to handle a real down-turn? In a white nation like the US, seen the coloured gangs? The physically hard working Mexicans? All scrambling along the line that you (the larger white populace) have coming screaming at your around the next (or next to next) curve. This is as true for the UK, France, Australia, Denmark….. You’ve been softened for a massive die-off, all the while believing National Geographic’s graphic telling of starving africans and and pot bellied Indian children and scurvies ridden bangladeshis. You’ve been fed a fantasy.
Nope. Sorry, when things get tight, people who have been living tightly will survive and thrive. Softened, weak people cannot grow back-bones overnight. It has taken many generations to make you who you are today.

If you take any of this personally, I’m glad to have stirred something, what-ever it is. Anger is good too. All you need to do is look around with open eyes.
I suggest you read the above with a thought to what “counts”.

But this is also how it was intended. We’ve been here before, over and over and over. Like religion, we need to learn this lesson again and again and again.
Such irony, that the only person who can safely interact with the industrial age’s crowning achievement, the mobile phone, machine intelligence as a must have accessory to daily life…while at the same time driving a mode of transport is a bullock-cart driver.

Indian, your handle quite well delineates who you are and what you stand for.

You would like to see the Indian race dominate, just as the whites have done for the past "500 years".

I accept that my bias towards reality is unfair, for you, just as i accept your bias is due to the jealousy of another people's rule over yours (i.e. Britain over India). However, i am not British (nor of descent) and i have many Indian friends who i share absolutely no racist feelings towards (if anything, your expanding populace outside of Indian into North American is prevalent and very impressive).

Getting back to your post, it's hard to not "take any of this personally" as you put it. You mentioned the white spawn as a curse on humanity. Um, ok. From that point on i could barely find myself to finish your post, though i did since i tend to have an open mind and need a good laugh once in a while too. Indeed, the various addendums and inside brackets terms you need to add to your statement that "any material improvement in the “Quality” of human existence" has NOT gotten better is a fact in itself that you are simply naive or don't want to admit we are living in a better world than our parents, and our parent's parents. Although i know better due to my visit of India (B-lore), i suppose an uneducated argument would be that you are living in rural India where street corners consist of elephants and Vishnus and you do not experience the wonderfulness of the 20th Century onward.

Concerning the quality of life argument, you will most likely retort back 'yes you North American consumption based imbeciles love the things you have, but you can't quantify how your life is better'. And if thats the argument you like, because you 'old school' people can live WITHOUT consumption, then feel free to. But don't try and say advances in technology do not leave to a better quality of life, as this is simply wrong. Where this will lead to in the future (a dark and gloom scenario as you suggest...?) is a good question which i can assume our posts segue into.

ZP, I stand behind every word I said there. I am completely unbiased in my dim view of th epossibility of human survival and in the near term, white human survival. Simply stating the fact of the softness I saw in my 12 years of living amongst you in the US.

No one's fault. You had free energy. It's bound to make you complacent. Like Midas, but you had Oil's curse. Burn baby burn. Play with fire long enough, ultimately it will consume you.

Bottom line (and a BIG bottom at that), such is how recent history has been.

I have an equally dim view of India's and Japan's and really every other nation's consumption society and yes, I'll say it again, modern science is a curse, not a blessing, in almost every sphere of human life, save a very small number.

Again, no bias, just calling it as I see it and with extensive life experience on both sides of the coin.

Since you are a regular here, do you believe in TPTB? The illegality of the FED?

If you do, then most of what I've said stands vindicated.

My worldview has always been that everything always boils down to the common denominator of race and tribe.  People have had so much programming to try and destroy this natural and normal way of thinking, it is impossible almost to try and explain it to anyone without being called a racist or a nazi or whatever.  In the real world, it has always been this way, since the sons of Noah seperated , after walking out of the ark , after the great flood.  Just examine the table of nations, as mentioned in the Biblical text of Genesis.  The sons of Seth know full well what I am talking about.

Merry Christmas Lord Peter P, really sorry about the state of England, but in your case the chains were forged when King Charles and the Kingdom of England were sold to Dutch central bankers by the traitor Oliver Cromwell. They bankrolled his rebellion against the King plunging the nation into a bloody civil war in exchange for handing the keys of the English treasury to foreign intruders where they have remained ever since.

Re the "tolerance" scam, it's really not the fault of the immigrants, their job (thanks to the stateless globalists )is to dilute national identity via multi-culti, which they are encouraged to use upon arrival. Still, the truth is surfacing and the outcome remains to be seen. All the best for the new year.

Linus Van Pelt: Sure, Charlie Brown, I can tell you what Christmas is all about.
[moves toward the center of the stage]
Linus Van Pelt: Lights, please.
[a spotlight shines on Linus]
Linus Van Pelt: "And there were in the same country shepherds abiding in the field, keeping watch over their flock by night. And lo, the angel of the Lord came upon them, and the glory of the Lord shone round about them: and they were sore afraid. And the angel said unto them, 'Fear not: for behold, I bring unto you good tidings of great joy, which shall be to all people. For unto you is born this day in the City of David a Savior, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.' And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God, and saying, 'Glory to God in the highest, and on earth peace, good will toward men.'"
[Linus picks up his blanket and walks back towards Charlie Brown]
Linus Van Pelt: That's what Christmas is all about, Charlie Brown.

Susan: So we can believe the big ones?
Death: Yes. Justice, mercy, duty. That sort of thing.
Susan: They're not the same at all.
Death: You think so? Then take the universe and grind it down to the finest powder, and sieve it through the finest sieve, and then show me one atom of justice, one molecule of mercy. And yet, you try to act as if there is some ideal order in the world. As if there is some, some rightness in the universe, by which it may be judged.
Susan: But people have got to believe that, or what's the point?
Death: You need to believe in things that aren't true. How else can they become?

It's an equation that relates to energy output.

Notice how much energy has been required to raise a family since the early 1950's.. 2 and 3 earners are currently required to maintain financial balance in a typical US home.

Tweak your mathematics to hypothesize where the limit is. A human only has so much energy no matter how much "5 hour energy" drink he consumes. The threshold is near.

required <> desired.

People in the 50's-80's didn't require ipods, cell phones, xbox's, internet service or cable and flat screens.  Some mothers still made or repaired things like clothes or drapes with sewing machines.  Houses were much smaller and needed less energy to heat.  You see for yourself soon enough.  People can get by with less.

To me it's not about kilowatts, it's about caloric output.

Use to be that only dad worked. Then the FEDERAL reserve wanted more inflation so they made it OK and safe for bitches to join the work force in corporate Amerika.

So now mom and dad give maximum output to support the scheme and 2.5 kids is now dwindling to 1.75 kids per household.

Soon mom and dad will have to live with granddad and grandmom so the household will have 4 incomes to support the needs and wants of 1.75 kids.

That will be the tipping point, and I give it another 40 years till that paradigm is max'ed out.

Experts Citing Rising Hopes for Recovery
From left, Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg News; Phil McCarten/Reuters, Jonathan Fickies/Bloomberg News

Among economists predicting a brighter 2011 were Mark Zandi, left, of Moody’s Economy.com; Phillip L. Swagel, center, a former Treasury economist; and Jan Hatzius of Goldman Sachs.

Now all, how could we possibly go against these 3 excellent and always correct economists. I mean it is Christmas right.

And to all Happy Holidays This is quite the site and as part of my Christmas giving will again donate to Zero Hedge. Kinda hard to find too many sites that while not always right, always speak the truth. That is what we must all have if this nation is to survive.

We have some great posts here, hope it never ends.

And to you Tyler and your excellent staff, a very Merry Christmas, Happy Holidays or whatever. Thank you for all you do and your tireless addiction to bringing the truth to all.

And what makes this a great site are all the different opinions. Some feel we are moving forward and some feel we are about to blow up but whatever you feel it is good to respect each others opinions and actions. That...is what makes a market.

Bye all

I hope my Christmas wish comes true this year.  If so, then on the 26th I'll be rehabilitating my bleeding and blistered cock after I'll have ass-fucked raw every single member of the Board of Governors of the Federal Reserve, FOMC, CFTC and SEC, the IRS Commissioner, every CEO of every TBTF bank, and several select politicians.

I am Chumbawamba.

Bring some K-Y with ya Chumba. Not for them of course, but for your sake.

After all, I suspect it might take several applications of the wrath of Chumba to tame those beasts. No sense knocking yourself out in the first round. :>)
