Posting on Zero Hedge over the next 24 hours will be sporadic and infrastructure contingent. Please use this forum for any urgent news, notifications, or pent up venting. Regular posting will resume shortly. Happy holidays to all.

Update [sacrilege]: I'd like to take  a moment to thank the staff -- particularly boney -- at portlane. Their continued support has been phenomenal. Also: Merry Christmas.

In response to two old posts (The Next Shoe To Drop: European Insurance Companies - Assicurazioni Generali CDS Explodes and ASSGEN Version 1.1: The Shoe Is Dropping... Slowly) here (http://cib.bnpparibas.com/file?q=MS&i=090128b3800f6d0c&download=yes) can be read the exposure of european insurers to the GIPSI (Greece, Ireland, Portugal, Spain, Italy) countries. As you can see Italy could be the fuse for the explosion of european insurers. Since there are 223$ billions of italian bonds to be refunded in 2011, the risk is very high. Especially considering the competition in the next bond auctions... http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/3346/1290025512image3.gif Merry X-mas to all!!!

All I want for Christmas is for Bernanke to stop monitizing the debt so:

I can afford to pay my Oil Bill and not freeze this Winter.

I can afford to buy enough food to survive.

I can afford to buy cotton underware next year.

I can afford to keep my Home and not let the Bankers take it from me without a Modification.

I can find a full time job paying more than minimum wage.

I can find a job.

I can afford to buy gas for my car to buy groceries and find a job.

I can afford to live somewhere other than the streets or in a tent.

Santa, forget about the 2 front teeth (no one can afford a dentist these days anyway especially implants) the above is all I need.

It's an ObamaNation.

Sad thing with the passing of the largest Defense Spending Bill in the history of mankind this week, that makes Obama the #1 Military Industrial Complex / Banking Plutocrat in history.  Sine the Prescription Drug Benefit liability has surpassed that of Social Security as the largest social expense after Medicare, that would make Gerorge Bush (who signed it into law) the biggest socialist President in the history of the country.   Take that tea-baggers.  Ironic isn't it?

Merry Christmas ZH! Best site on the net!

Wealth effect <3

Thanks to thirty years of right-wing PR rarely subjected to vigorous (as opposed to wimpy and half-hearted) challenges in the mainstream press, thanks to schools that emphasize job training and getting THE right answer instead of broad general knowledge and critical reasoning, thanks to entertainment media that glorify the mean and dumb, a lot of Americans are so indoctrinated that they don't know they're indoctrinated.

They have their talking points; they don't need no stinkin' facts.

All their talking points have to do with meanness, selfishness, greed, and disdain for anyone who doesn't follow their line.

Projection plays a huge role as well. Fox News and AM radio have been spewing insane accusations and epithets for over twenty years, and yet one of the right-wing talking points is that liberals are "hate-filled."

Right-wingers also accuse the left of practicing "the politics of envy" because of wanting to make the tax code more progressive or to rein in the banksters, but look what happens when the topic turns to public employees, especially public school teachers. "All those public employees have benefits that the rest of us don't have! They should suffer like those of us in the private sector! They're the reason governments are going broke!"

If that isn't the politics of envy, I don't know what is, and of course, the non-reflective consumer of right-wing media never stops to think, "If public employees have those benefits now, and my parents had those benefits in the 1950s and '60s, why don't I have them, too?"

No, it's all about those "greedy" and "incompetent" schoolteachers, protected by their "corrupt" and "overly demanding" unions, and evidently solely responsible for both state deficits and the inability of many schoolchildren to overcome appalling home lives and desperate social conditions.

The same right-wingers who think schoolteachers are overpaid also think that hedge fund managers earn hundreds of millions of dollars a year because "they work harder than other people."

When confronted by facts, unintelligent right-wingers just repeat their talking points louder or start flinging irrelevant insults. Their more intelligent ideological kin try to deflect the discussion and goad the other party into overreacting or giving up. (An online troll once admitted that this was his tactic.)

The Democrats have been co-opted from within by factions such as the Democratic Leadership Council (politicians who are Republicans at heart but too embarrassed by the stupidity and Puritanism of the Republican base to join the G.O.P.) and have been unable to oppose the Republican attacks on the middle class and the poor.

Now the Republicans are back in power, and their claques are going to be insufferable.

John Fitzgerald kennedy and Benjamin Franklin are my two most favorite Americans. I wanted to have them for a "keepsake", if nothing else- you never know if the comex might collapse or Physical currency circulated (will no longer exist)

Yes, I work with a ton of black, mexican and white people. We were forced into the SEIU by no choice of our own. If the municipals collapse, we will be fine... It's just a job. You would be surprised how many poor folks are willing to sacrifice for others. I can only survive because I am able to live in a tiny apartment with 2 others... I love living like this and see nothing wrong with this type of lifestyle for the next couple decades

The SEIU is just a gang of theives, like the FED, Barrack Hussein Obama or the better part of our entire government!

Hey chumba, been keeping up with FOFOA?  He has been on a tear lately, the Tylers put two of his articles in the past several weeks.  Stirring the pot the man is...  His article a few days ago really kicked a hornet's nest, as we gold types are split into tribes...

So, I have bet most on gold, but some on Pt and Ag.  Not to mention Pb in 7.62 and 9 mm sizes to help me feel better about the whole damn thing.

Sat, 12/25/2010 - 13:22 | 829787 chumbawamba

FOFOA's Focal Point article was mostly misunderstood.  I actually started writing a response to Mish's worthless response that I was thinking to submit somewhere (maybe here) to expand on FOFOA's Thoughts! from a different perspective that will hopefully elucidate FOFOA's opinion on silver.

Bottom line: FOFOA is correct.  Gold is a store of wealth.  Silver is money.  The misunderstanding comes from the immense complexity that lays behind those two simple assertions.

I am Chumbawamba.

In the City of God there will be a great thunder, Two brothers torn apart by Chaos, while the fortress endures, the great leader will succumb'

'The third big war will begin when the big city is burning'

- Nostradamus 1654

...on the 11 day of the 9 month that... two metal birds would crash into two tall statues... in the new city... and the world will end soon after"

Two steel birds will fall from the sky on the Metropolis. The sky will burn at forty-five degrees latitude. Fire approaches the great new city (New York City lies between 40-45 degrees)

Immediately a huge, scattered flame leaps up. Within months, rivers will flow with blood. The undead will roam earth for little time.

When that movie came out I saw it when I was around 11 or so.  I was lucky enough to see it in a theater that had reclining seats and the projection was up onto a dome.  The opening puckered my little ass, and the rest blew my mind.  I can't think of a better way to see 2001...to this day.  Oddly, I had the same circumstance when I saw Star Wars when it first came out.

Don't forget to buy bulk lead and bullet/shot molds, and in a pinch a supply of Potassium nitrate, activated charcoal and sulphur can be used to propel a bullet from a modern cartridge...messy, smokey, and must be tight loaded, but will work - but your bullet performance will be less. Gold and Silver can be molded into bullets, and is somewhat expensive and should only be used for high-value targets. Solder sticks that plumbers use a also make reasonably cheap bullets.

One thing I do not understand is any fascination with a group of people, a lineage, based on religion.  How possible would it be for one of the three major religions to be hand crafted in any singular way?  The epiphany was One True God.  It is too brilliant a task to perform by such idiots as the popes and whatnot.  The City/States have commanded most of the power, and usually due to geographical concerns.  Much of humanity has not been brilliant plans but downright maggotry.  Yes each few generations have Military Kings, Priest classes, Monied INTERESTS, and the peasantry, but much of this is luck of the draw with the exception of a few warriors.

Recently because of certain access to oil the monied interest have trumped the other two classes.  Long are the days where the best soldier is a state's leader, for wars are led by mostly technocratic nuances.  Now the monied class furnaces the priest class and has them puppet the status quo.  How long will today's monied class afford their lifeblood, oil?

My 12 Daze of Ponzimas

OK, you all know the tune, so, I'll just let rip with the first couple stanzas and you can all sing along.

On the first daze of Ponzimas, the Bernank gave to me:

A Trillion FRB Notes.

On the second daze of Ponzimas, the Bernank gave to me:

Two Bank Bailouts, and

A Trillion FRB Notes.

So, you know how it goes; let's skip to the end.

On the Twelfth Daze of Ponzimas, the Bernank gave to me:

12 Euro Defaults

11 Chinese Missiles

10 Hedge Fund Perp Walks

9 Inverted Yield Curves

8 Mandy Drury Maids a' Milking

7 Hundred Billion (or there will be Martial Law, according to Hank Paulson)

6 Bankrupt States

5 Flash Crashes

4 Santa Rallies

3 Lies to Congress

2 Bank Bailouts

and A Trillion FRB Notes.
