House Passes Bill to Audit the Fed

George Washington's picture

I have just received confirmation from a very credible Congressional
source that the bill to audit the Federal Reserve is included in the
House financial reform legislation which passed today. My source says:

The Fed audit provision which passed the Financial Services Committee a few weeks ago is part of the bill. This
is a real milestone, as it means that the full House of Representatives
has passed a bill that mandates a complete audit of the Fed.

The effort to audit the Fed - supported by 79% of the American people - is gaining traction.

Call your Senator and demand that the Senate approve the bill to audit the Fed.

Madness:

please - this is child's play.  In the murky twilight of holiday distractions, the bill will go to conference, Fed portion disembowled Braveheart style, after pretend battle and hard fought compromise, passed in name only. Then they will credibly be able to say "reform delivered, party's over, go away." If anything, "reform" will be rendered even more irrelevant and useless in the process.  Paul knows this.

add to that the $2 trillion raising of the debt ceiling buried in a bill to fund the troops,  and u have completed a well timed Xmas present to our elitist rulers.  Merry Christmas.

Nothing of much truth will come of any audit.  It has been talked about for enough time for the rats to run around eating up all the poo they can find and shitting out roses.  At least there is some response to popular demand and some rousing of the masses. Still...

When will the audit be???  The problem with auditing a secretive entity like the Fed is that they will have months to hide the really bad scary stuff.

It will die in the Senate. No chance at all this will pass. Anything that would reveal what has been going on for the last year is DOA. The Senate is even more crooked than the house if that is possible. I guess less members mean much more money to split. I hate this shit. The Dems have shown little enthusiasm and the GOP just doesn't want to do anything that could possibly make Obama look like he's doing something. They don't have they have never had the capacity to separate politics for the good of the country. The Dems are also looking more like them. They are more like a shiv in the back instead of straight forward back alley beating.

No chance that the limousine liberals are going to let this through. Total Opposite of the House.

The House financial services package is a lousy bill.  The audit the fed provision will not survive the Senate.

If there were any real interest in the "audit the fed" movement, it would require extensive hearings.  Beyond simply auditing the Fed, the larger issue is to broach the subject of Fed oversight as this concept is broader and indicative of legitimate interest.

While I share your cynicism, I do not think the realistically tough odds of getting this thru the Senate and conference committee intact should stop us from trying, working it...and you never know, some damning info or scandal could happen between now and final Senate action on bill that forces their hand. A pup can hope.

If you look at history in this country, there have been times when populist pressure overcame horrible corruption and concentrated power/wealth and the tireless efforts of those in the face such strong parasites have left our country much better off than it would have been. Remains to be seen if now is one of those times.

I do think we should be realistically guarded and prepared about the difficulties, but we should not stop pushing.

Two years ago, who would have thought Ron Paul would have gotten this far on this issue. While his previous efforts were largely ineffective at the time, they were not wasted.

I agree Colonial. The vote would have had to been veto proof too.

As long as Geithner and Summers are in there , this would never survive a veto pen.
This was a feel good vote. The bill itself sucks too. I understand why Paul was forced into voting against it. No regulation of deritives. Virtually no corrective actions for what started all this.

There isn't one there that isn't a whore, sir. We've a government of whores. They are trash, absolute trash, all fifty states worth. And they are likely to put a stop to any serious attempt to put the breaks on their personal scams.

One day the people will have something quite decisive to say to these eels with the "botox and the shiney white teeth", as someone above put it, and it won't be through a legislative proposal. But don't count on the Fed being audited any time soon. They'd call out the military to suppress something like that.

Will do.  I was on the phone with Vitter's office this afternoon telling them that I wanted him to oppose the reconfirmation of Mr. Bernanke on Dec. 17th.  His office personnel stated that she didn't know how Sen. Vitter proposed to vote.  Anyone who hasn't called their senators and representatives should do so, and repeatedly if possible.
