Never forget this guy (Leo) is apparently managing pension fund money, so he can never express his real opinions. I reiterate that this guy has lost nothing on ZH and should publish his stuff on CNBC or other mainstream media.

TD: you can get rid of Leo whenever you want, there are plenty of other real good contributors here.

Disappointing.

This was a dreadful report.

If you subtract census jobs and the birth/death-model

adjustment, the net job gain was minus 200K+.

Where did all the stimulus money go?

Someone should put this thread , complete with embedded videos , into a time capsule. So when whatever becomes of our species digs through the "credit  collapse of the 3rd Millenium" they will understand just why mankind nearly became extent.

The silent majority getting steamrollered by fkwads in power and blowhards like Leo in the media.  Leo you stooge. ZH is the one place for reality and reasoned debate. If i want to be part of the "ignorance is bliss" brigade i'll pop off over to CNBCs website.

ZH should stay true to its roots. It doesnt need "balance" for the sake of "balance". It needs reality and the ability to cut through all the other whitenoise proganda like a laser.

I want contributors that have something reasonable and logical to discuss.

That goes for the Madhedngefund guy too with his BS awful pump and dump recommendations. Fk off already.

Leo,  If you ran a small business in the

heartland and had to look at your

employees (of 20+ years) and see

their prospects for the future, then this

might be real to you.  The truth is

not in some set of statistics.

Actually, the heartland of America has been doing better than the coasts in the past recession because they didn't lose their heads during the inflated run-up and their economies are not as leveraged to the FIRE sector.

Detroit is a shithole. I was thinking more about Ohio & Iowa.

Sun, 06/06/2010 - 15:38 | 398155 akak

Ohio is just Detroit lite.  Youngstown and Akron are just smaller versions of their Michigan big brother without its past panache.

Iowa's small towns continue to depopulate, as more and more small and independent farmers give up or are forced out of agriculture by the unfair advantages granted to the giant agri-corporations.

Can you lend me those rose-colored glasses so that I may see things as you do?

Sorry, Leo. You're wrong.

One of your themes: It's the worker's fault. The anecdote about the hot manufacturing jobs, wherein the employer bemoans the lack of qualified workers. Please, do not insult our intelligence with that shallow CNBC cheerleading bullcrap. Here's the deal: America, right now, is not a manufacturing hotspot. It will take a while to get that part of our economy going, and the money we foolishly invested in America's bloated and largely unproductive financial sector was a huge waste of money, and opportunity lost. And how will all these people get training? And how many jobs realistically are there now, today and within a 5 year timeline? What industries will prosper given US wages and benefits, as compared to the slave labor economy of China?

Second, and you're not listening to this, or simply assume it away: there is no driver for this new wave of hiring. Show me the industry sectors in USA that are not wallowing in overcapacity, and what new emerging sector will need all these armies of the unemployed. While we could have gotten started on this project 2 years ago, we chose banker bonuses as our goal, not the common wealth of our people. Our kleptocratic rulers and their bosses have no interest in doing the right thing here.

You make no mention of the BLS phony-baloney birth death modeling, which supposedly buried some 200K+ "new jobs" which I think you mention in your articel, although not explicitly - it is in the "140K new jobs" you mention - bullcrap. There is no hiring going on, at all. Talk to real American businesses and you'll find out quickly this is all wishful thinking, blurred statistics, and fading stimulus.

And last but not least, forget the American consumer - the consumer is overleveraged, or out of work, or fearful, or retiring, and is not coming back.

Beware looking to prior, non-balance sheet recessions for the "markers" of recovery  -  look to the East, as we are becoming Japan, minus the submissive, homogeneous population and strong export/manufacturing sector.  This time, it is different, and we'd better get off our asses and figure it out.  But pointing to the BLS statistics will get us nowhere.

Sun, 06/06/2010 - 09:15 | 397749 Leo Kolivakis
Leo Kolivakis's picture

Ned,

I agree that the banksters got away with murder, but disagree with this statement: "there is no driver for this new wave of hiring." With corporate profits up, manufacturing expanding for 10 consecutive months, productivity reaching its limits, and a shift from part-time to full time jobs taking place, it's only a matter of time before companies ramp up the hiring, albeit from depressed levels.

One thing I will concede is there are no clear solutions to retrain and retool American workers. The economic and social cost of unemployment is a tragedy but policians have yet to address this problem with any serious solutions (except via helping the banksters).

You know, after reading all the above comments from the very beginning, I can't help but think that if it were I who had made the (poorly argued, supported and thought-out) original post, only to have over 200 comments almost unanimously heap scorn, ridicule and indignation on me, some with MUCH more intelligent and much better fact-based arguments than I could muster, how would I possibly be able to avoid feeling even a smidgen of embarrassment and self-doubt, if not abject shame?  And more than that, how could I not be hesitant to make similar facile, shallow and inflammatory posts to the same highly critical and unappreciative audience?  But nothing of the sort is evident in Leo's soft porn replies to his many doubters.  Is this a sign of raging arrogance, rampant cluelessness, or moral and intellectual indifference?

I'm just glad that I didn't have to pay for this Sports Illustrated swimsuit edition level of analysis and commentary by Leo Kovilakis, because if I had, no matter how low the price, I would have surely felt cheated.

I have to say I watched the girls dancing on the bar and had absolutely no problem with them other than the one in the far back didn't look like she was giving it her best...

But what I really liked was after reading so many depressing comments about how much trouble US / Globe is in debt wise, I was able to completely escape for a few minutes.  Dang, now I have to get back to the real world. OK - back to fun.

BTW I enjoyed the comment about the for profit schools being way overpriced and bot puts on Friday on CPLA (capela) - so far so good.  I live in Minneapolis and a few years ago Capela took the name rights to an absolutely stunning scyscraper with around 45 floors in Downtown Mpls.  I could never understand how the hell they could afford this building.  Now I know.  Our generous government.

Trafficking in women for sexual exploitation

This prevalent form of trafficking affects every region in the world, either as a source, transit or destination country. Women and children from developing countries, and from vulnerable parts of society in developed countries, are lured by promises of decent employment into leaving their homes and travelling away. Victims are often provided with false travel documents and an organized network is used to transport them to the destination country, where they find themselves forced into sexual slavery and held in inhumane conditions and constant fear.

The trafficking of women for sexual exploitation is an international, organized, criminal phenomenon that has grave consequences for the safety, welfare and human rights of its victims.

Trafficking in women is a criminal phenomenon that violates basic human rights, and totally destroying victims' lives. Countries are affected in various ways. Some see their young women being lured to leave their home country and ending up in the sex industry abroad. Other countries act mainly as transit countries, while several others receive foreign women who become victims of sexual exploitation.

Poor Leo gettin it from all sides. Makes a bad call on the jobs # and now hes a proponent of sex slavery?

lol

Puulllleeesee! Those chicks he posts are as unexploited as you can get! They got it and flaunt it all the time of their own free will and you would have a cat fight from hell if you tried to get between them and the camera.

The only objection might come from female ZHers but on much more mundane grounds than sex slavery crap.

This is getting like mob mentality. First Leo is nice enough but a little too bullish, then hes dead wrong and unrepentant, then he must be stupid, then an intellectual sociopath, next a supporter of human trafficing, Jesus Christ whats next? Leo K is simply the epitome of evil incarnate??

I think hes in denial, but Im not judging him for being human. Hell weve all been in denial over many things in our lives if the truth was known. Just the fact that you can see the truth and the other person cant dosent make you innatley superior or more intelligent than the one in denial. It is simply the denier being human and the accuser being a complete hypocrite of a douchebag, imo.

Keep in mind the doomsayer mindset on ZH while spot on, imo, has been eating crow for many months now and things have yet to really go to 417 SP and 5000 dollar gold! So nobody is exactly nostradomus material just yet, although the ball is in the doomers court for now.

Also keep in mind the Japanese populus by and large didnt grab sacks of gold and 30/30s and run for the hills when the govt stimulus didnt work out.

this conversation is not about my sexual proclivity.. as their is a time and place for every thing,, but on a public forum .. get your head out of the lower parts of your brain washed rectum ,use some badly needed discipline.   and forgo the typical 20 year old justification and retorts to make your animal spirits justifiable .

Leo, As much as I can relate to the positive vibes you're trying to send out, I think it's misguided. Suffering - be it physical, emotional, economic - is part of the growth process. "What you resist, persists," is more than an adage.

You're fighting too hard to make a negative a positive, and it's making you look unreasonable, if not in denial.

Don't bet the farm, or your reputation, just yet. Step back and rehash the fundamentals with an objective eye. Best play the devil's advocate for awhile, lest you get crucified on the blogs come Fall.

Lol, Permabulls reaction to bad reports is always "a closer look at the data reveals..." followed by some argument that proports to see the silver lining most do not.

Then, perhaps realizing in a Freudian way that they are really reaching, "Next month..qtr..year, will be better! Youll see!

The "closer examination"? Leo, why is a closer examination required? If things were not so bad, would not the numbers stand on thier own?

This closer examination amounts to you having to squint extra hard thru those extra thick rose colored permanent cotacts.

Take a closer examination of your ego, the numbers came in bad and set up a cognitive dissonance in your psyche that could only be resolved by resorting to confirmation bias, ie searching the internet for positive tidbits to support an obscure view.

You must have repeated "wage bill 5%" a half dozen times, and it was a bizzare non-sequitor of a defense.

That said, those that call for your banishment are much more obnoxious, imo. Heaven forbid anyone not toe the party line and dare not to preach to the choir. In another time and place they would be demanding witches be burned.

It gets awful stale even with the great posters here sometimes, all great theories should withstand a little challenge if they are sound to begin with without having to shoot the messenger.

Now if everything really does go to shit,  Leo, Sp500 back down to around the March lows and UE sky high, at least admit then that you were wrong and things wont get better in a month!

I Love Leo Weekends... Go look around at your other favorite sites (OK - there's nothing like Zero Hedge) and do you find the great input - especially on a weekend, that do you here. Roro, I do not quite understand the gist of your comment directed toward me.

If you feel that I have judged and responded to Leo unfairly, then I request you explain how Leo has not been equally or more unfair to the entire ZeroHedge audience by repeatedly posting inflammatory, unsupported, shallow and often outright blind assertions as "analysis" here, only to then typically run away from the resulting storm of indignation and contempt, or at most simplistically scoff and then insultingly and irrelevantly posting large photos of scantily clad women by way of "reply".

Is this your idea of meaningful analysis and commentary?  There are any number of other ZeroHedge posters (and I do NOT include myself among them) who could do a far better job than Leo, while not blindly hoeing to the perceived consensus opinion here.

akak, I think your take re LK is accurate.

Sorry, if I left the wrong impression. I really meant to thank you for responding to my 2nd ever post at ZH and very much appreciate your contributions. I have been trading futures and fx for 6 years so at least have hard wired the core concepts. Also, having survived the ups and downs of the markets over the last 6 years the hard way I have been around long enough to know that a lot of what LK writes makes no sense and can be outright confusing. If LK is not a foil by design to make readers work to sharpen critical thinking skills in a complex and constantly shifting socoi/pol/ec/geopol and trading environment then the next word to come to mind is 'sociopath'. If I am not mistaken LK has been propped as an 'authority' on subjects from A to Z with credentials from a senior pension fund position all of which implies education, talent, depth of experience and social responsibility. I have doubts about that and no real interest in being drawn into a web of psychoanalysis even if LK's intent is to create that kind of negative distraction.

So to try to reduce LK to the simplest common denominator and assess value or lack of value to LK's posts then from a trader's perspective I simply applied the metric of being on the right side of price discovery.

From what I read so far LK is consistently on the wrong side of price discovery from solar to NFP.

To be blunt about LK; looks like a more sophisticated version of Cramer and detached from reality. That is my impression. Maybe I am wrong, but that is my impression.

Thank you again akak, and many many thanks to Zero Hedge, its brilliant writers and astute commentaries.
