I'd Like To Thank The Stockholm Academy...

Tyler Durden's picture

Presented without commentary.

[Dear Blank, or Chrysler Senior Secured Lender, whichever one you find more credible] --

This morning, Michelle and I awoke to some surprising and humbling news. At 6 a.m., we received word that I'd been awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for 2009.

To be honest, I do not feel that I deserve to be in the company of so many of the transformative figures who've been honored by this prize -- men and women who've inspired me and inspired the entire world through their courageous pursuit of peace.

But I also know that throughout history the Nobel Peace Prize has not just been used to honor specific achievement; it's also been used as a means to give momentum to a set of causes.

That is why I've said that I will accept this award as a call to action, a call for all nations and all peoples to confront the common challenges of the 21st century. These challenges won't all be met during my presidency, or even my lifetime. But I know these challenges can be met so long as it's recognized that they will not be met by one person or one nation alone.

This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.

So today we humbly recommit to the important work that we've begun together. I'm grateful that you've stood with me thus far, and I'm honored to continue our vital work in the years to come.

Thank you,

President Barack Obama

h/t Bob

So... how long before we or our allies bomb Iran... he's going to have to do some quick talking to the fine folks that gave him this Nobel Peace Prize if/when that happens... I wonder if the Nobel Peace Prize was an 'oh shit' moment in the White House as they strategically increase the rhetoric over Iran...

Is it about the moves of physical gold, Chinese defaults on contracts, SDR's or even something worse?

I wish I could just put my horror into words.  This has taken its place beside the moments when I heard (as a 3rd grader) that Kennedy had been shot and the Challenger explosion.  Regan not so much.

I helped elect Barry O.

Just speechless (otherwise.)

Right on Gilgamesh! People love to pull it's the only choice I had. Oh, and besides, the fuhrer built such beautiful autobahns. The real Nobel Prizes are in the hard sciences where there are no pc laws of physics. The political nobel prizwws came later and are something akin to the Order of Lenin. I guess Yassar got his prize for shoving a guy in a wheel chair off a cruise ship. Good company to be in.

I knew you would know, MN.  Something tells me neither Nader nor Paul will be impressed by this prize . . . but they did run.  Palin was just a convenient poison pill for the old time religion crowd.

But WTF?  Barry has done absolutely nothing for Peace that I know of.  Jimmy Carter has done far more.

Is the Peace Prize now a twisted version of the Homecoming Queen election?

Has Peace become a matter of TBTF?

What has the man done to earn this one?

WTF?

Alternate Universe speech of Pres. Obama:

While I give thanks for this prize, I must decline it.  Instead, I will pass it on to the descendants of Pres. John F. Kennedy, the last actual democrat to occupy the White House.

The last president to actually appoint someone connected to labor to the position of Secretary of Labor!

The last president to actually do battle with the US insurance industry, and force them to sign a Consent Decree (to cease and desist their artificial price-fixing) in October of 1963.

The last president to offer progressive hope to Latin America in his "Alliance for Progress" campaign and process.

The last president to stand up to Wall Street (specificially both GE and US Steel) and question the need for the oil depletion allowance.

The last president to begin the removal of foreign-based active combat soldiers (Vietnam, overturned by his substitute, LBJ).

Yes, truly President Kennedy deserved this prize.

Actually Colorado didn't allow a write in for president, some other offices yes, but not president. I almost took my ballot and made a "media event" of the situation at the polling place, but I figured I just didn't know procedure or something, and the kids and family were there. I was forced to vote Libertarian. Never, ever, no matter how "important it is this year", vote republicrat. The duopoly of fear is our undoing.

O. just cares more than W. W. cared less than any other pres. After the election he was bored out of his gourd until 9/11 gave him something to do.

I would argue that W. was NOT dumb, not by a long shot. But he was badly advised, had horrible speechwriters, lousy PR managers, and terrible stage presence. It was an unfortunate confluence of many superficial elements that were terribly important to his image and performance.

O has much better support on all these fronts, but lacks one thing, and lacks it in spades: experience and experienced staffers. Superficially, he's fine, people will always like what he's saying and how he says it. But he's got fundamental problems.

Interestingly, O is alot like the economy. Superficially, it's all looking pretty good. But deep down, there is all kinds of mess.

You are a weird dude. Reagan freed half of Europe fromthe Communists, including my family and he is less deserving than Liberals who try or hope. Wilson, League of nations, result WW2, Carter Middle East Peace, that's working great, oh and that remarkable statesman Arafat.

The problem with Liberals like yourself, is you just wish problems and evil people will just go away, live under these people and you will gain a new perspective.

Reagan was their best bud....otherwise the Sovs would have melted much sooner.  The way the US is in the process of melting today....

I don't think either party put up their best guys in the election.  Everybody knew that the economy was going down a rathole and nobody really wanted to wade in to fix it.  So they put up their expendables knowing that whoever won the election would be a one-termer.  Did you notice the look of relief on McCain's face when he gave his concession speech?  The man practically danced off the stage with a big grin.  That was not the look of a "loser" but of a guy who just dodged a very large bullet.

I am amused at Obama's blaming of Bush for the mess, but he has continued the same policies.  Guantanamo is still open, Iraq and Afghanistan are still hot, the defence secretary is the same, the banks have been given MORE money, Bernacke has been renominated, and little Timmy has been moved over from the NYFed to the Treasury.  It's W's third term, really.  Nothing has changed.  And Obama has until the end of the year to turn things around before it all becomes his total responsibility.

Well, now you guys got what you wanted.  An empty suit to fit all aspirations except he is so painfully underqualified, he will lead to more pain for the left than anything the GOP could have dreamed of.  Great pick.  I hope all that voted for the O enjoy choking down this vomit as he leaves the country and the left in utter shreads.  But, he speaks well and does really well with non-stop media flattery and looking the other way....   something GWB never had.  Wonder why?

Geez, while I don't know why one would bother answering an "Anonymous" let us set the record straight:

Bill & Hillary didn't leave the White House to end up being worth over $100 million just on the basis of speaker's fees.

Plenty of payoffs went to the Clintons for their passage of NAFTA, GATT, PNTR for China, the Telecommunications Act of 1996, the Financial Services Modernization Act of 1999 (allowing the establishment of ultra-monopolies) and the Commodity Futures Modernization Act of 2000 (allowing for ultra-leveraging by those ultra-monopolies).

Like the time they put some sizable funds (in trust, 'natch) in Quellos Management, which was then purchased by Blackrock (those guys managing the bailouts on no-bid contract), which drove up their investment considerably.

That's the way it's done......

I liked the part where he says... "A world that gives life to the promise of our founding documents.." at 54 seconds...

Does that mean he's in favor of slavery now?

Or does that mean he plans to abolish the Fed?

And finally.. Just who is the "Ruthless enemy" that threatens America and her allies this time at 1:45 ? ... The Fed+TBTFs?

He also said he has no plans to honor our commitment to the NPT... even after he's dead. People forget this treaty has two parts... one where we promise to de-arm... how's that going Mr. President?

And which causes would that be; impoverishing the world with infinite bailouts, starting another war against a Muslim nation, cheating the people to whom you SERVE; implementing anarcho-fascist measures; WHAT ? i would really like to know what " set of causes " will this worthless prize be giving momentum to.

How is this even a surprise? Previous selections were directly targeted to piss off the US conservatives (sic). This is no different.

Anyone scratching their heads simply hasn't been paying attention.

It's pathetic and sad the Nobel committees are reduced to political statements in selecting their award.

This just in from the 2010 Superbowl in Miami.

-- President Obama wins Superbowl MVP without even playing. In an unheard of coup, the President was able to achieve Superbowl greatness without even suiting up. Commissioner Goodell had this to say, "He was truly super. We just can't quantify his input today." The losing team had this to say, "For all he's done, he just deserves it." The President seemed surprised as he spoke from Washington D.C. on the Miami Video Score Board, "Wow. I can't say this was totally unexpected, after winning the World Series MVP in October. But, still, I've never even played football before."

Ladbrokes has put the odds of President Obama winning the F1 championship and the 2010 World Cup in South Africa at even money.

As MVP, the President will be entitled to a full winners share, which amounts to 68,000 New US Dollars. That is roughly equivalent to 1 ounce of gold or a night at the Dorchester Hotel in London.

Listen... the Nobel's are nothing more than the Academy Awards for politicians.

Do you really think it was a coincidence Denzel Washington and Halle Berry BOTH won Oscars for Best Actor & Best Actress in the same year that Sidney Poitier received his lifetime achievement award?

From Wikipedia:
"The Nobel Peace Prize conveys social prestige and is often politically controversial."

So, do you really think it was a coincidence that Barack Obama wins the Nobel PEACE Prize immediately following Bush's presidency? Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if the missing TARP funds that Michael Moore DIDN'T eat went towards paying off the Nobel Committee that selected him!

Ironically enough:
"Five Nobel Prizes (including the Peace Prize) were instituted by the final will of Alfred Nobel, a Swedish chemist and industrialist, who was the INVENTOR OF THE HIGH EXPLOSIVE DYNAMITE."

Sounds like a guilty conscience to me...

And also:
"U.S. President Barack Obama was nominated the day after inauguration and then elected for the award just 8 months into his administration."

Looks like they wanted to make sure he was sworn in case someone took a swipe at him.

Obama's acceptance shows how clueless he is.

The peace prize is for historical reasons farmed out to the Norwegian parliament who choose the politicians who serve on the selection committee. This resulted in a hard left socialist committee.

These socialists have done what socialists have always done. They have subverted the aims of the Nobel prize to their own ends.

They have made Barack Obama their poster child for international socialism.

This award -- and the call to action that comes with it -- does not belong simply to me or my administration; it belongs to all people around the world who have fought for justice and for peace. And most of all, it belongs to you, the men and women of America, who have dared to hope and have worked so hard to make our world a little better.

Okay... fine... you give me my "piece" of the $1.8 million Nobel prize, and I'll start my "call to action" by demanding that the Federal Reserve be fully audited.

If the world only knew how opaque this Administration has become...

What can you say about a "peace" prize that was setup by two guys who invented dynamite?

About as much as you can say about Mr. Carnegie setting up the foundation for the advancement of teaching because of all the kids killed or maimed in his factories.

About as much as Mr. Rockafeller setting up a medical research foundation because of all the people poisoned by the snake oil( that would be petroleum distillates if you want to be picky about it) sold by his father.

Face it, the prize is a bad joke and so far, so is the presidency of Mr. Obama. I did not support his candidacy and completely disagree with almost all of his positions but our problems are so severe that I sincerely hoped he would do well in office. Needless to say I am completely disappointed but not surprised.

I promise i will find a cure for cancer, AIDS; i will unify Quantum Mechanics and Einstein theory of relativity; i will solve Riemann hypothesis and i will find an ultimate ideolfy which will prevent poverty, inequality and financial bubbles.

Also i will find the principle of nuclear fusion, prove the existence of God beyond any doubt, heal the blind, feed the hungry and impregnate Heidi Klum.

I think my FUTURE resume speaks enough for itself, and that it will be sufficient for me to be the Nobel Prize recipient in every category in the year 2010.

Dear Mr. Bastard,

Unfortunately, after a careful review of your qualifications we find that they are all just promises, promises, promises... empty promises... and unfortunately the Nobel Committee has already awarded the Empty Promises Nobel Peace Prize to President Obama.  If you had read the fine print you would have found that the special "Empty Promises" category is only awarded once every 4 years.

You are encouraged to reply in 2013, but you may face stiff competition from a new 'Empty Promises' President of the United States who we feel will be a strong candidate for that year's prize.

Sincerely,

Nobel Peace Prize Committee

Last time I checked Myron Scholes got a nobel prize for economics. He also aided in the collapse of Long Term Capital Management.

These awards are useless. It's a bunch of intellectuals who got beat up in highschool who feel the need to pat eachother on the back. A single fund partly managed by him almost created a credit crisis in itself (oh but they got bailed out to) That is how smart he was.

I must confess though, the award should go to my teleprompter (TOTUS). I've decided though to accept the cash and use it to repair the one broken totus and to buy 10,000 more to be placed strategically around the globe.
