That mission was declassified back in the 70s, but it wasn't until the 1990s that the USAF finally revealed that the Roswell UFO was a crashed Mogul balloon string. Those who worked there knew what Roswell was really all about long before the rest of us did and always got a snicker out of it.

I am not an expert, I am only speaking from the experience of seeing 10+ shuttle launches from my swamp, but, at 35 miles out you should have seen more smoke and a bright point of light. There was no light in the video I saw.
When the shuttle launches, it's like a giant effin falling star up close but going in the wrong direction, and there is NO QUESTION that it's a rocket going into space, no second guessing it. It is a great experience if you have never seen it.
I don't know the size difference between the shuttle and an ICMB, maybe 4x? but at only 35 miles it should have been obvious what it was. The shuttle launches over 100 - 150 miles from me and it's plain as day.
When they land the shuttle in Florida they re-enter above the swamp, my whole house shakes. It's really cool.

Sssh....in order for that to be true, the world would have to be round.
The shuttle weights more than a missile, has three sets of engines, and each booster engine probably gives off 5x the amount of flame as hydrogen/oxygen motors. So while the comparison is apt, it's not really that close.
If you live in the swamp, you will have seen enough delta rocket launches which look similiar to this.
There is an "orders of magnitude" difference between the shuttle and a missile.
If you google the original CBS footage, there actually is a flame visible at the top of the contrail. Is it dull enough to just be a jet? Maybe. I dunno.
Conventional jet engines (other than fighter jets on afterburners, or maybe the SR-71) don't display a visible flame front on boost. They are really just air pumps, and the flame tends to die before it hits atmosphere. At least I've never witnessed anything like a flame, and I live close enough to an airport to see a lot of night flights.

I think the projectile emanated from a party yacht off the coast, upon which a celebrataing but gaseous Barney Frank, having just eaten a load of Mexican, blew a butt plug.

All is well. Its only condensation trail from a jet. You can see the red/orange glint from the sun near sunset reflecting off the shiny plane. An ICBM has brilliant white flame from the rocket motor which can easily be seen during the day, and is quite spectacular at dusk, dawn and at night.
Also, the missles move very fast espcially once they get about 20,000 feet, by then the missle is moving at several thousand miles per hour and leaves the atmosphere (lower atmospher quickly) and is then out of sight.
To see the speed of a real lauch the what the re-entry looks like (and how fast the re-entry vehicles travel) watch the vid California to Kwajalein Minute Man Missle Launch available on Youtube.
The "Mystery Missle" could well become the touchstone for the average "stupid American" to join, become aware, and make ready the new and modern American revolution...which is to simply defund this defunct, incompetent, and corrupt Federal Government.
This one has some staying power, I think. After trillions spent in national defense...NORAD says "No Clue." I could not have said it better myself.

That would be nice if true. I saw the video, looked like a rocket to me with a reaction trail crossing thermal layers and different wind sheers as it went up. If the video was recording it headed down field then the relative motion would be fore-shortened to the point where it would appear stationary. The flame might have been reflection, the time of day was right, but I'm not convinced.
NORAD is handling as if it were a launch at sea. I guess we'll know more later.
Looks like the jet is flying towards the helicopter, making the contrail appear to rise from the horizon. The contrail is fatter than would normally appear, but with the lighting and angle the dimenions can appear distorted.
