IMF Prepares For "Threat To International Monetary System"

Tyler Durden's picture

Back in April 2010, before Waddell and Reed sold a few shares of ES, effectively destroying the market on news that Europe was insolvent, we made the following observation: "The IMF has just announced that it is expanding its New Arrangement to Borrow (NAB) multilateral facility from its existing $50 billion by a whopping $500 billion (SDR333.5 billion), to $550 billion." Little did we know that our conclusion "something big must be coming" would prove spot on just a month later after Greece, then Ireland, then Portgual, and soon Spain, Italy, Belgium, and pretty much all other European countries would topple like dominoes tethered together by a flawed monetary regime. Well, based on news from Dow Jones we can now safely predict the following: "something bigger must be coming." As if the IMF's trillions in open lending facilities (many of which have recently been adjusted to uncapped) were not enough, we now learn that the world lender of last resort (which in theory is the Fed, but apparently Bernanke has been getting a little shy lately so is offsetting his direct lending directives to secondary organizations like the IMF, leaving the Fed with only USD liquidity swaps) is about to activate a "Special Funding Pool" - Dow Jones explains: "The International Monetary Fund is expected to soon activate a special funding pool that will boost the fund's ability to prevent or resolve economic crises, two people familiar with the situation said Thursday. One of the people said the activation of the funding--which can only be made by a special request from the IMF managing director to the board--was in anticipation of an expected wave of new IMF programs, including the possible expansion of the Greek bailout package." Wonderful. Global financial cataclysm rinse repeat all over again...

More from Dow Jones:

Activating access to the funding pool could provide assurance to the market of the IMF's ability to backstop any major funding crisis amid ongoing fears that Europe's sovereign debt woes will worsen. The IMF board recently approved a boost to the so-called New Arrangements To Borrow, bringing the special pool of funding to around $580 billion, adding several hundred billion dollars to the total amount the fund has to tap. According to the IMF, the pool of supplementary resources are only to be activated when "needed to forestall or cope with a threat to the international monetary system."

Although no request has been made, markets, analysts and economists say rejection by the Portuguese parliament Wednesday of a belt-tightening budget all but sealed the likelihood Lisbon will request aid from the IMF and the European Union.

Bottom line: there is a new threat to the international monetary system which means Europe May 2010 redux is imminent.

US taxpayers: our condolences.

Hasn't the "IMF will save the world since the Fed can't" meme been obvious from the start?

Yup, it's why they have tagged along in all the EU bailouts.Grab them all by the balls and then finally drop America. I suspect Spain and maybe Italy have to be tamed and then the circle will be complete.

Cindy's correct, IMO.

A low profile - very under the radar - would serve the prudent well.

People would be wise to realize that George Washington relied on a vast array of colonialists, who were thought to be very allegiant to the Crown, in order to obtain the information and intelligence on British logisitics, troop movements and other such matter, without which there would have been no United States.

Low profile???  Truth in Sunshine, don't be a fucking idiot.  All of us...those who come for sport and those who truly come here because they care are all flagged.  You and your "tendencies" are known.  Your lack of governmental support is well documented.  Every trip to ZH, every comment, every check around the blogosphere.  It all creates a clear profile.  There are reams of info on all of us now...anybody that uses the internet is fully KNOWN.

There is no low profile...but you just sit and stick your head in the sand w/ some PM's and wait til it's your turn.  We are all known and either we jump the shark or wait for the inevitable.

What I'm saying is that it's my opinion that the prepared should blend in until such time as they are no longer able to.

There's little good reason to call attention to oneself, and put a mark on your chest, until it's fight or flight time.

Part of the game of survival is evade, escape and resist, but the resist part doesn't kick in until the first two have failed.

Honorable. No sarcasm is intended and none should be inferred.

On the other hand, mostly futile.  These people have not hesitated to stage world wars resulting in the death of  tens and tens of millions. The physical aspect is simply the most obvious manifestation. The real power rested in certain people being devious and many being ignorant. It is no surprise they are making their final move now. The clock is ticking and it is not in their favor as long as the internet exists.

If 100 million people visited ZH on a daily basis, the "dark cloud" would simply melt away. This is about knowledge, not weapons.

A man will leave his family to defend his country. I know because I was in the Florida National Guard in 1968. My unit was called to active duty, and I was sent to Vietnam. I did not support the war, but did support my form of government. It's like paying taxes. One does not agree on some of the ways the money is spent, but one takes the good with the bad (pays the whole tax bill). Anyway; I was wounded twice in combat. My wife (of 44 years) and I have four grand kids now. I'm here trying to learn a little, because I too fear the fate of the dollar.

Actually, someone sent me a new TRADOC manual about the Persistent War and the Professional Army - They are now telling the officers they are to 'Defend Human Rights' not 'just in the United States' but 'Human Rights everywhere'.  I haven't read the whole mess yet, but I wonder if they have changed the oath to defend the Constitution? For example, the Officer who executed the order to fire on Libya was following an illegal order - no different than a German soldier in WWII ordered to shoot civilian Jews. The Officer Corps of the United States must stand up now to the illegal Executive Branch orders, or resign commissions rather than follow illegal orders.

The Constitution does not allow the US Military to be used as a mercenary force of the UN or the Rothchilds or any other Non-US power. At this point, they are cowards. Willing to face the enemy, but not loss of career or job.

I personally cold called people all over Eastern Kentucky to get them to vote for Rand Paul. He beat the RINO Grayson, then we took down the Clinton Clone Conway. I spent a hell of a lot of my money and time, as did others in the Commonwealth. Mitch McConnell will be next to fall when he comes up for re-election.

My question - what have you done in your state to elect a real person to office? Who are your Senators? Congressmen? What have you done?

What is your fascination with waiting for someone else to save your country?

I think that effort is fantastic. As you may have noticed from my Avatar, I'm an anarchist. To each their own, and I applaud all effort for change.

Personally, I do not think change will come from within. Big Government must be dismantled from the outside.

And you actually referenced my point - I don't understand the fascination with Ron Paul because I am not waiting for someone else to save our country (your last statement). I think it will come from disorganized resistance and ideally a mistake or two from the PTB.

What is this foolish "constitution" that you speak of?

Yesterday, the WSJ reports that the justice department will no longer require maranda for accused terrorists.  So US citizens "suspected" of planning to murder will be stripped of this right.  Wasn't there once this concept of innocent until proven guilty?

The US Military will follow orders.  They will put down the domestic terrorists and insurgents.  Images of Lincoln and the flag will be trotted out.  How they are the last line to protect America, and their paychecks/ways of life.   Not only will they willingly try to suppress US Citizens they will do it eagerly.  After all any insurgents would be labeled terrorists/white supremacists/commies/anarchists/neo-confederates/extremists/etc...

The hope does not rest in the military.  I hope that they are totally deployed overseas when bad shit goes down.  Think Canadian troops they could call up lack the killing experience and numbers.  Only hope is state politicians and bureaucrats act out of self interest and try to save their own sorry butts and leave.

You're expecting the US Military - the only decent institution left in the government - who swears aligence to the constitution to submit to a NWO.  Not gonna happen.

I think when the time comes, you might be in for a surprise. Yes, there are tons of good men/women in the U.S. Armed Forces (and military institutions worldwide), however to assume that when the time comes they will be on the 'right' side of history is a little presumptious.

Does anyone know how to make a Flamethrower? Just curious.   Milestones

Thu, 03/24/2011 - 20:06 | 1097564 bothsidesnow

Try a proane tank, attach a valve to the propane source, run small diamter copper tubing from valve as flame source and run a second line for the flame thrower(diameter of your choice the bigger the diameter the flame). Put an on /off valve on the "thrower". Light the small diameter line. Open the valve when you want to throw the flame. You can increase the distance of the flame by adding more pressure to the propane but you will need to consider a different type of tank than the standard 5- gallon for your bbq. For more information search Burning Man and fire effects.

Yup:

1. Make a catapult.

2. Load flaming object into catapult

3. Pull lever.

Extra points points if you don't burn the catapult down, double for using a trebuchet.

If you want the real answer to that, you will have to ask specific questions.
