Inside Job, A Story of Economic Collapse

smartknowledgeu's picture

I'm not in the habit of promoting films, but if the above documentary, an investigation of the root causes of the 2008 global financial meltdown, is anything like the director's documentary on the Iraqi war, "No End in Sight", not only are we in for a relentless presentation of propaganda busting facts and an endless calling out of financial shills from Wall Street firms, but we will also be presented with a very sober reminder that our current administration, like the Dubya, Clinton, and Bush Sr. administrations that preceded it, has failed to address or fix in any substantive manner any of the root problems that created our first financial meltdown. Thus, get ready your popcorn ready for a front row seat to financial meltdown, part deuce, coming to your in-home theater in 2011.

If Geoge Soros gets a pass then the real issue (New World Order) (Federal Reserve) gets a pass too.  Is Ron Paul in this flick? Where is the NWO given their exposer?  Or is Alex Jones the only one who has it right?  See The Obama Deception on youtube for a real hard look at the crooks without the Hollywood bias.

I don't know why people waste their energies screaming about "NWO."  It's toast, don't people realize this?  THAT's what's going on NOW, the grand structure is failing because there isn't sufficient growth to skim off and make it viable.  This whole model was based on cheap energy, and with cheap energy disappearing from the radar any hopes for a NWO go with it.

Some people go to bizarre lengths of convoluted thought in order to avoid any acceptance of Republican complicity in the mess we're in.  Why is that?

Also, was Saul Alinsky a Goldman VP, a bank regulator, or was he at the Fed during the 2000's?  I forget.

Nice left wing propaganda..but no mention of regulatory fraud, hyper Keynesianism, terminal complexity of regulation, regulatory ineptitude, left wing politics, GOP cronyism, regulatory overreach, 125 years of Bismarkian statism, Alinskyism, the new left, the old orthodox left, 75 years of Social Democratic rot, failed economic orthodoxy and many other good reasons for our present problems.

At least we knew where Michael Moore stood on the issues.  This trailer steals his presentation style and is trying to make the left seem middle-of-the-road.  Marxism for profit.

Yes, but if you add all those into the mix, the movie gets labeled as conspiracy theory and written off by the left wing politicians, the GOP cronies, the regulators, etc etc. You want a movie that both Glen Beck and Huffington Post will promote.

Baby steps.

If it helps lead to bankers giving evidence in their own fraud trials, those bankers may decide to sing like canaries in order to avoid jail time - implicating all the other people you listed above - then it's all good.

Let us all go see the movie and then make the call as to the validity and value of it. It may be a valuable and worthwhile education tool or a spin. It CAN NOT contain more lies than DC and the media are producing. If it can wake up ½% of the population it is a plus for democracy.

if its a one sided "the banks caused it all" then it's worthless.

They need to hit on the problems with federal reserve, DB's like Barney Frank and Greenspan and to many 'authorities' that didn't see a problem brewing when home prices were doubling every year.

Oh, and no mention of the total improbability of maintaining a system of "sustained growth" on a finite planet?  That's not an issue?  When you've got continued issues it's likely that the problem is that everyone is whacking at the branches when it's the roots that need to be hacked; and, unfortunately, for ALL involved in this game, THE game (run by capitalism) IS the roots that need to be hacked.

The game is CRONY capitalism, aka fascism.

The 'sustained growth' myth is fueled by fiat money and fractional reserve lending. Those are not 'capitalist' tools, they are fascist.

My thoughts exactly after watching the clip.

The real issues are:

1) our political system/government/legal system.  Our political system was clearly written by Vince McMahon because it sure as hell looks exactly like the WWE wrestling that I see on tv.  The politicians (actors) all get together for beers and laughs after every press conference and the outcome is pre-determined.  The gov't is a burden on an economy.  GAVEKAL's research earlier this year cemented this notion.  They found that as a gov't becomes a bigger spender in an economy that economy's structural growth rate is decreased and you get a P/E multiple compression.  We can't afford big gov't in tough times, as there are no free market forces to ensure that their business ventures turn a profit. They think they stimulate aggregate demand and/or save the economy but they can't.  Their joint partnership with the Fed to flood the markets with almost costless money blew up every asset on the balance sheet and now we must face the consequences of the malinvestment.  They are trying to manipulate the business cycle which only makes things worse.  Our legal system has a higher prosecution rate than that of the Spanish Inquisition where they would dig up dead bodies and prosecute them to take the land from their living heirs.

2) Overpopulation.  The most unproductive people are having children.  This needs to stop ASAP.  There's only so much more the global elite can or will allow for this to continue.  it's not fair to our species' future to continue to allow eople with poor genetics and family values to outproduce the more affluent. It's a shitty thing to say but we need a massive reduction in population rates if we want our species to survive and the only way I see this happening is a massive genocide and/or disaster.

The blame game only creates resentment.  Resentment is like drinking the poison and waiting for the other person to feel the pain. We are just looking at the outside of the problems and not the root.  Here's the syndicated media playing the divide and conquer game.  Works like a charm.  Hitler has a shitgrin on his face right now.

If Reagan was still alive and being asked to comment, then I probably would have added him. The fact is, Barney Frank was (and still is) waste deep in the whole sorry saga (given the government's role) and Spitzer does nothing more than regurgitate the highlights of the analysis made by his betters. I've said this here before and I'll say it again, when someone of high political office, uses his/her power to prosecute and jail people engaging in the same activity as he/she, they lose all moral credibility. Spitzer has no footing on which to stand when it comes to passing judgement on anyone.

If the trailer is an example of how this issue is explained and who the "authoritative" voices are (Barney Frank? Elliot Spitzer?) I'll take a pass.

“Conspiracy theorist” isn’t the kind of description that most people would seek to invite upon themselves, but labels never really bothered me.  I raise this because I want to encourage folks to stay on the path they are on in seeking the truth, despite the fact that I do not hold the answers, as I believe that the trends and developments that we’ve had to contend with over the past 20 years cannot be purely coincidental.

Doomsdayers Not Cynical Enough

http://www.rickackerman.com/

Having spent nearly 20 years doing what I can to uncover the truth after continually witnessing the statistically improbable occur just on the heels of the highly unlikely, I’ll conclude with this:  No matter how cynical one thinks he or she is, I’ll take the contra-side every time and bet that the overwhelming majority of investors are not nearly cynical enough in their analysis.  My friends, these financial sociopaths and their sociopol lackeys play for keeps.

Do you think the sheep will go see it no  tit's,murder, explosions & the like. Not many people care to deal in reality. When it comes out on dvd I'll put the big screen in the yard buy a keg & smoke a brisket. Have the neighbors over & try to wake them up a little more. When it hits the fan I prefer not to be surrounded by clueless idiots. People are starting to figure out they have been robbed.

Get them to buy some food and have some water available. That way they aren't beating down your door when the SHTF to get at your well-prepared stocks of provisions...

Here is a legitimate question - how does one work to change this problem?  Clearly "Change we can believe in" was really just more of the same.  He lives next to the University of Chicago and 50 blocks from the CBOT - but I don't remember seeing anyone except Wall Street people working to "help" in our hour of need.  So, where does one sign up to fight the good fight or is it sufficient to just try to make money on the lies?  At some point you don't want to win on a doomsday bet because will be no where left to cash in the ticket ...

To fix it (and lots of other problems in the USA), all you have to do is divorce politics and money.

Publicly funded elections. No more campaign contributions. No more lobbyists.

The politicians who are only in it for the money will go off and find another job, to be replaced by people that care about their constituents rather than their wallets.

The level of political corruption in the USA is astounding.

The problem isn't so much the money in politics, it's the money (and power) in governme nt.   That comes first, and the money in politics is just the ante in the fight as to who gets to control the money and power in government.

You'll never solve the problem when there's a powerful, rich government that's up for grabs every 4 years.  Reduce the size & scope of the government.

And 'publicly funded' politics?  That's what we have now, the public (or at least parts of it) funds the elections.  What you are advocating is government funded elections.  That will just lead to a circle jerk of the incumbents funding themselves.

No more lobbyists?  Isn't that a rough synonym for a 'petitioner for redress'?  I thought part of the reason for that whole revolution thing was that the government wasn't listening to the people, and now you want the people (or those you label lobbyists) to just shut up so the the government doesn't have to listen to their whining?

So, if a politician can't get money from lobbyists, they'll just go home?  Ever hear of Boss Tweed?  No, you numbskull, they'll just steal it more directly.  Or they will only talk to the lobbyists when the lobbyists aren't in an official capacity (like at the Starbucks across the street from their office).

You are easily astounded.  A poor education in history will do that.

Government isn't corrupted, it works exactly like it is supposed to. It is a means to concentrate money and power into the hands of a few. It is working beautifully.

Dunno the full answer. Too many people "benefit" from the system, including the sheeple and the vast majority of the population that receives more in benefits then pays in taxes.

But a couple of small ideas:

1. take out less debt (to pay the banks), pay your credit card balances every month, pay in cash

2. move your money out of TBTF banks

3. stock up on food and provisions

4. some people would say to buy silver and take physical delivery, but that's up to the individual to decide

5. make friends will like-minded people

6. legally minimize the taxes you pay

Just some ideas...
