Interactive Map Of Recent Food Riots And Price Hikes

Tyler Durden's picture

While the Fed refuses to extract its head from deep within the sand of ignorant hubris that only a career in Ivy League education can provide, the world continues to burn, in many places quite literally. For all those who are finding it hard to juggle all the rioting, and confuse their Cairos with their Calcuttas, below we present an interactive map disclosing all recent documented food price hikes, protests, and riots.

Friend just got back from a week's stay in Detroit.  Apparently there's no bus / metro transport anymore.  Most of the buses were given to Chicago.

Why?  Nobody riding the bus.  Why?  The bus riders are unemployed so everyone stays home or walks / rides a bike to get around.

Perhaps we can do a "car-for-clunker bike" program with China.  We get all their old clunker bikes and just send our vehicles there.  Detroit will be the new Shanghai but without all the skyscrapers.  Before you know it, Motor City will have a K-TV on every corner.  Good franchise opportunity.  Now who's in?

A bit of an exaggeration about Detroit. I live just south of there. They've got a different kind of bus service running through the metro area. As far as down town I can't actually say. The people mover is still running. I refuse to go to Detroit proper. It's a fucking war zone except for basically one street where the stadium and theatres are. And there's not as many people walking as you'd think. Plenty are driving other people's cars around all day long. ees for fun.

DO NOT get lost in Detroit or you may never see your loved ones again. Take a GPS and a bazooka (or Hank). Roughly 20-25% of all homes in Detroit are uninhabited. Crack whore heaven! A bum's delight! Something like 7 out of 10 murders go unsolved. Jack the Ripper luvs him some strippas'!

Thanks for the input.  I'm sure he was exaggerating a little however I'd have to agree with you regarding the downtown area.  He said the place was dead and referred to it as "ground zero."

One of his friends had gotten stabbed at a gas station as he was putting air in his tires.  Luckily he made it out ok and a squad car showed up.  When he asked the officer where in the hell the paramedics were the officer stated he'd probably get to the hospital faster if he went ahead and just drove there.  Go USSA!

Whacko, plenty of awareness around these parts, but it is a miniscule percentage of the population. The US, with it's hugely discredited public school system has purposely dumbed it's population down.

You can literally chart the rise of rap with the rise of Crap. Crap everywhere. Between peoples ears too.

The tragedy is that it is by design.

Dumb sheeple are far easier to control. No one's fault. Media, main-stream, with limitless funny-money and a clear directive from social programmers, is a terrible tide to with-stand.

I read the comments here and it is just so unencouraging. The state of the American educational system is one of dumbing down,. Witness the comments.

There is no way to cure this total ignorance. And this is what  supposedly leads the "free world"? People who are so ignorant. No idea where it is on the map where anyone else exists? Let alone any understanding of any other culture; let alone any understanding of anything. And all ignorance by either criminal politicians or idiot religions;.

This country teaches their children nothing. They have no idea of where any other country is on the map; let aloine anyt understanding of any alternate culture. My way or the highway. JUST WATCH some USA TV and you will see the level of education they offer. They can't even speak English. And I am looking at the supposed English speaking people...."I axed hime to do this; I axed him to do that" These people who are leading the free world are ill-educated buffoons

At least 1M U.S. children are homeschooled or are privately educated at home (this would include my kids).

Subjects learned cannot be compared to a government school.

To wit: one year we lived in both Mexico and the U.S. traveling back & forth with our privately educated kids. Talk about an education they won't forget...

Further, one son began designing circuit boards at age 12.

Not all U.S. schoolchildren are ignorant.

Sorry to kick it off on an off topic - but just got a better look at the CBO's #'s:

they expect tax revenues to increase from $2,228B in '11 to $3,090B in '13.  That is a 40% increase in tax revenue.  After tax revenue stalled out from '01 to '10 at $2T (high of $2.6T and low of $1.78 during all of '00's)...now they expect tax revenue to go $500B beyond any previous and they expect this will have no impact on nominal GDP of 5.1%.

Fuckingcredible.  Who has the balls to put their name on this piece of trash?

They also expect spending will only grow by 2% ($3708B to $3794B).  So, a net $862B pulled out in taxes from '11 to '13 and we have nominal 5% GDP.

Ohhh, and interest paid on the public debt (esp. short rates) will jump to over $450B (currently paying $200B)...so another $250B out of the economy from '11 to '13.

Ohh...ohh, and States and Muni's will be cutting back by another $100 to $200B?

So, net net, we'll remove $1.3T ('11 to '13) from the economy (just about 10% of the entire economy is pulled out of circulation) and we still grow by 5%!!!.  How fucking stupid are people to believe this shit!!!

Fucktacular!!!  Whatever spook is reading ZH, give me my labotomy now...let's just get it done with so I can fit in with the rest of FuckMerica.

we'll be killing off most of the people over 55 shortly, we can't afford to keep their dicks hard, hearts pumping, etc so they need to go.

college education will be federally financed at very modest interest rates, but neglecting to pay makes you immediately eligible for the draft for the war in <country with hungry brown people>.

some of that hangover inventory in the RE space will be removed by random fires from the riots, that will help even out demand.

the tax burden will be shifted from personal to corporate/hedgie income and financial fraud will become punishable by death. some of the more far-gone gamble-holics will do it anyway.

the wise will become much more conservative with their bullets.

The rest of the planet better start figuring out where food comes from...and it ain't the grocery store.

I built a chicken coop in our small backyard. We get half a dozen eggs per day. We have a garden patch that will keep my family eating veggies for a good long while. And we're able to do sprouting on top of the fridge. (Almost any seeds will do.) It's easy, but it takes a little effort. It's not planned, it's just not being admitted to.

My own land has decreased it's yeild by about 30%.  Rain comes too late, too early, it's too cold at the wrong time.  That translates into 30% less food stuffs being made.  Global warming as a term I'm not that fond of.  Climate change is about right.

I live in Canada, as a kid I was lucky to not see snow on the ground at halloween.  I'm in my 40's now, we are lucky to have a white xmas now.

That snow btw serves as an aquafer for my land that I do a profit sharing piece with local farmers.  I front the capital, they supply the work and I get a nice cut.  However without that snow that I and my friends would make two/three story snow forts out of, the fields don't get enough water to force corn seed, soy, barley or wheat to germinate on time and properly.

The end product is stunted corn or worse, transvestite corn which fucks an entire field by cross pollenating itself.  If I'm making seed corn, that's a bad place to be in.  Reason it happens, the cycle of nature is disrupted and the plant forces an XYY situation which btw creates sterile plants and sterile seeds that produce fruit but the seeds can't reproduce.

Anycase...the situation is man made.  It's more of a point of TOO MANY people in a limited amount of space.

My guess is the governments of the world are lying because coming straight out and saying "stop fucking so much and reproducing" wouldn't have been taken any better than "guess what, there's nothing left to eat"

Plantains and banana's.  Holy shit you must be biting your toe nails now.

To those that don't understand how Plantain and banana plants work.  They are, like wheat, human engineered.  But unlike wheat, we bred them to the point that those little black dots you see in a banana used to be seeds.  Banana plants...pardon plantains in general are all tranvestite plants.  They exist because Green Leader (red Leader checking in...sorry star wars can't help it) extrudes cuttings from a "mother" plant and the survival rate actually decreases as you keep you that.

Banana and plantain are something all of us are lucky to eat.  Because the guessimate is as a spieces it'll be gone in around twenty years.

My suggestions to green leader, use that and charge 40 USD a pound.  Won't change the situation that plantains and banana will be gone, but you might as well put the screws to the world before hand.

The word you're looking for is "hermaphrodite".  A transvestite assumes the trappings of a gender that doesn't match their sex, a hermaphrodite has both sets of sex organs.

If you are a govt, you want more "tax paying units" which is 1 reason why our southern border is wide open. Look at the demographics of Italy and Japan where their populations are set to drop by 25% in the next 30 years - disastrous for tax receipt and social security programs.

It's a race to the edge/end but I don't expect any govt to tell the truth or do right by their people.

Appreciate your info on your farming situation.

We have the same problem in Canada.  20 year old fuck tards with a B of A in nothing important, and lots of them living at home.

What we are seeing is a reversal of the let your child free born from the nuclear age and the return of a family unit.  All the governments have done is import labour to tax.  I don't think it should surprise anyone if I mentioned that I put up job posting for the guys that work the farms in March and get zero local replies for kids to throw hay for 14 an hour and work on a farm.  I end up hiring Mexicans in May to help out do crazy things like pick strawberries, throw hay, work crops and pick apples.  As a by-product the local farmers and myself speak fairly fluent spanish, french and almost speak english.  ;)

Something to think about if anyone is looking for work btw.  Canada has working Visa's for people that do farm labour.  It's hot, pay is only 14 an hour and you usually get room and board plus you'll end up in the best shape of your life.  The beer is cold, eggs are fresh and the steak is local/decent cuts before the rest of the cow is sent to city markets to feed people that don't grow food nor know what good meat tastes like. (yes we keep the best for ourselves). -plug plug-

The agency we use is ManPower to find guys to work farms and the postings go up in April.

In eastern ontario we had plus 9 before Xmas and just after.  I now have zero garlic for next year because what would have been around 2 tonnes of garlic, or around 75k of net, 15k profit grew in December because the garlic bulbs thought it was april...

That's how nature works.  It doesn't look out the window.  A seed feels wet and temperature, then it starts that amazing chain reaction to build itself.  In my garlic's case, three day later it died because winter became winter again.

You want to see sad.  National Capital Region Tulip Festival.  Find one that wasn't transplanted.

Sad eh?

"TOO MANY people in a limited amount of space."

Yes, That's a core problem. Only few are willing to accept it ... because most everyone loves kids and especially loves their own grandchildren. And they love growth.
Growth is good. Yummie yummie good. Can't have enough 'growth'.

What? spit on babies and apple pie and growth ... no politician will ever do that.

Never mind that growth MIGHT cause climate change.
Never mind that growth DOES cause
oil scarity
water scarity
topsoil depletion
rainforest destruction
ocean fisheries depletion
ozone holes
species extinction

... I could go on for about 50 more lines.

And so the ponzi goes on.
Sure it sinks into social consciousness that there's a 'problem' but few will allow them selves to connect the dots. Too many people consuming a finite amount of resources.

Some will say "well we just need some controls"... some 'carbon trading' or somesuch. The savy banksters quickly frontrun that and are WAY ahead of you to ensure they will get a commission on every crap you take.

Nothing will get solved, just some more  of your life's energy getting sucked out by them.

The salvation isn't attractive.
Basically it involves working harder, smarter, longer, consuming less and having fewer offspring.

Don't hold your breath waiting to hear that in a State of the Union speech.

I think the core problem is infinite growth. Say the human population were to drop by 80%, there would be so much surplus energy from oil, coal, gas and nuclear that we'd grow back to 7 billion in no time because we're still using an infinite growth economic model. Using an infinite growth economic model and attempting to control population growth with 1 child policies and stuff like that won't work, it's like trying to cure a malignant melanoma with a hello kitty bandaid. The ROOT of the problem is that we're collectively still behaving like yeast; we find a finite but initially abundant energy source (fossil fuels) and grow out of control untill it's exhausted, then begins the die-off and we blame it on BS politics.

The solution, in my opinion, is to grow the fuck up and start using some sort of a resource based no-net-growth economic model, that relies mainly on local renewable resources, especially for critical things like food, water, heat, clothing and building materials.

You had better start caring. Look how commodities tracked it before QE1. NOW there is a disconnect that is not explained by "new Ships" nor the scrap rates of old ships. the BDI has a story to tell and its not pretty.

It is the movement of bulk goods and you cannot seasonally adjust the crap out of it.

In 1929 there was so much margin money chasing a fixed amount of stock that the valuation became "distorted" ie RCA. In The year of 2011 you have digitally printed money chasing the same limited amount of stocks and an Apple a day won't keep it's shine forever. I beg of you beware because when the QE ride comes to the end you are going to see a hangover of biblical proportions - You can take that to the Bank

Disagreements happen, that's life, but on food it's pretty easy to avoid politics on the subject.

To be honest, Canuck food reserves are a little hinkey much like the Canadian governments ability to mention if pensions are capitalized.  Everything has been a little weird since 9/11 and the freedom to information act hass changed that I'm not surprised that you found fuck all.

If what we all do as farmers/land owners locally, we sell everything to China.  And by everything, I mean, EVERYTHING.  China pays in silver and they send their rail cars out.  From other guys I've talked to in conferences, it's all across Canada.

If we were hit with a supply failure in Canada, Toronto would be on fire in a day. Speaking of failure...tampons aren't being made, someone figured it out and now they are selling tampons on eBay for 40 bucks a box.  It isn't just food...be prepared for a lack of everything.

Canada as a country is tricky.  150 years ago we made the decision to build everything along the Canuck/US border.  Inorder to develop further into Canada major infrastructure changes have to happen.  And by MAJOR I mean it.  We already have blackouts/brownouts twice a week in my neck of the woods.  Let me put it this way, my clock is wind up now.  And I don't bother setting the digital clocks anymore and I'm 80 km from Ottawa, the capital.

If you walk around the capital of Canada you will notice that there are unmarked truck trailers all over the place.  Those aren't spy wagons, they are power generators to keep the buildings working.  This coming from a place with a HUGE surplus of energy which we sell to NY state.  We don't have enough power to keep our own lights on.

That's why I'm skeptical that the Canadian government has any plans on emergency contingencies.  So far the media here is "GaWd wE R so Awesum cuz we have BanKz and we R CanAdiAN!", hokey, fluffy bullshit.  Zero discussion on the doubling of interest rates.  Zero discussion of massive drops in crop yields from 2010-09-08-07-06...etc.  Anytime we as land owners and farmers bring up the point as a group, Agriculture Canada official line is "that's nice, we'll look into it".  Anytime a farmer is on TV in Canada, it's some dumb fuck dairy farmer crying foul about the milk quota funded by the taxpayer (if you run a farm, cows don't make money, they cost money, a 1 litre bag of milk should cost around 17 dollars working in a 5% profit)

We're hosed buddy.  Canada can't help it's self to the usual MO of falling on a cock to make somebody else get a head. (ha! bad pun)

Wed, 01/26/2011 - 22:46 | 908282 Arkadaba
Arkadaba's picture

Well actually ... I don't think that "Canada" made such a decision to build everything along the US/Canuck border 150 years ago. Upper and Lower Canada existed before that and I think that the plethora of cities and towns on the border, at least in the maritimes and central Canada, was due to market conditions, namely, in the day, the predominant trade route was via the St. Lawrence and great lakes. Same as in the USA.

Thu, 01/27/2011 - 00:29 | 908501 CPL
CPL's picture

And that was the decision.  Geography was part of that decision to serve business requirements.  Closer to markets.  Closer to family.  To be blunt, I could throw a rock over the river where I live I find first and second cousins in Ogdensburg.  With the border crap going on now, it is pretty fuzzy.  As a drunk teenager I enjoyed many evenings under the table wishing I had never met Bud and his friend Jack.  Along with blood cousins that would travel from a far off country 15 minutes over a bridge and wish they never met Jack and Bud's ugly twin brothers, Rye and Blue.  Somehow it would all be soothed with their friendly female cousin...Maryjane in the morning and a big greasy breakfast.

As mentioned, Canada is resource rich, but planning to attempt to reach those resources were pretty much nerfed as soon as 95% of the population decided to live a 1000 km away from them.  To develop it now...well, let's just say it would be easier getting tooth paste back into the tube than fund a road to nowhere.  This is no longer about the will to build something, it's really about developing something can plan on.

The field of dreams idea of "build it and they will come" is fine and all.  But really to what end?  Build another fort in the middle of nowhere and hope fruit is borne?

Best to let it collapse nicely as it appearent the powers that be have planned and see where things are after that.
