Interactive Oil Spill Map
Even as recently 'demoted' BP CEO Tony Hayward is out and about, enjoying a fine yacht race-filled Saturday (cost of InTrade contract that the CEO leaves by year end, now at 74.9) , the GoM gusher continues spewing up to 120,000 barrels of toxic sludge daily. Below is an informative interactive map from USA Today, disclosing all you need to know about the spill, and why both Texas and the entire Eastern seaboard are likely next to be picking tarballs out of their coastline. In the meantime, BP execs are glued to the Weather Channel, dreading any formation that could even remotely resemble a hurricane-in-waiting (InTrade odds of first Hurricane strike). Should one approach anywhere near the Horizon, all those investors who will buy the Company's unsecured bonds, or even a secured Term Loan of BP, will be wiped out.
Full map after the jump:
For purists, here is the most recent, ultra high res picture of the spill, via MODIS (h/t Justin). Judging by the subsurface blackness enveloping the GoM, it appears Simmons' estimate of oil coverage is pretty much spot on.

I have that card set (and an assload of others), I'm thumbing through them and it's a little creepy reading them now, had to go digging around the collectors box. So all we have left is civil out breaks and the rare NWO triumphant card.
Depending how you play the game it's pretty hard for the system to keep living people on the planet in surplus to rule unless using a successful coup card. So far, if we were playing NWO the card game, all the coups have been crippled by simultaneous coup cards.
If anyone has an interest, you can still buy them at most disreputable comic book shops.
Does anyone think the oil entered the US on a H1N1 visa?
I read your article and 4 or 5 of the comments before I had to clear the tab. I can only take so much whack jobbery at a time.
I suppose that is comforting in a masochistic way to think that there is purpose, or intentional intent behind all the shit that is happening to us.
Much more likely though, is the fact that ALL the major power players have totally fucked up, and lost control and that NO-ONE yet has the slightest clue how to fix the problems.
Interesting... but then all the hamster wheels stop running... and money does indeed make the world go round!
Got oil?

BANZAI7 MAP OF NORTH AMERICA 2015 (including Gulf):
http://williambanzai7.blogspot.com/2010/06/north-america-2015.html
Most of us have watched in horror over the past 2 months as incompetent government has colluded with incompetent business to blow smoke up our collective asses and try to hide the magnitude of this Chernobyl-esque oil gusher. It is slowly dawning on us that no one really knows what's going on and what it's going to take to fix this mess, if indeed there is a fix. We are being led down a path to our own extinction by charlatans, hooligans and nitwits.
We have been taught all our lives that "government knows best". Well guess what? It doesn't. And it never fucking did. All along, We knew best. But our instincts were stunted by the overwhelming cheap stimulation we received from an increasingly consumerist society, to the point where we no longer considered the ramifications of our actions but simply lived for the day, and let the future take care of our problems.
That has to end now.
It is time we all take responsibility, and that responsibility begins by first rebuking those who are currently "responsible". It is time to withdraw your consent to this government. The only way things are going to change, the only way things can get better, is if You refuse to participate in this charade any longer.
I WILL BE MOVED NO FURTHER.
I cannot and will not stand by and allow this government to turn my reality into a day-to-day horror-filled freakshow. I never bought a ticket for this and I want out of the theater.
I do not consent, I will not obey. This must end now and it begins with me.
Who will join me?
I am Chumbawamba.
sign me up...this criminal cabal that began in 1913 must end.
Chumba, farcism at its finest! (Clarification, I mean the gov, corps, not you). Sign me up.
You need to make this more concrete Chumba. What does it specifically mean to withdraw your consent to this government? What concrete actions does this mean? Without that, dear one, it is a proclamation without teeth, more hot air that everyone likes so much to blow. Actually, I think this is what most of us are hung up on.
Thank you, MsCreant. It is sometimes easy to forget the details amidst the flustered self-blustering.
Here are concrete steps that one can take to withdraw one's consent. And before anyone asks: the answer is YES, I do practice what I hereby preach.
* DON'T PAY YOUR TAXES - you heard me. If you want change then stop feeding the same beast! What, you think the monster is simply going to go away if you keep giving it what it wants? NO! It's going to stick around because you keep giving it what it wants. I know this is not exactly tying a yellow ribbon around your tree or paying that extra dollar at the grocery store towards the cure for diabetes, but it is what must be done. This illegitimate regime is using a tax on your hard earned wages and income to wage war against you and every human being on this planet. Why are you paying for your own enslavement and ultimate demise? Stop pretending that it pays for "your fair share". Your "fair share" is already paid with property taxes, sales taxes, fuel taxes, car registration fees (i.e. taxes), and state income taxes (should you be unfortunate to be in a state that has an income tax). The Federal income tax is a fleecing of your wealth, which is then used to advance the goals of empire across the globe, stirring up anger and enmity for the US, which then results in terrorism When you pay your income taxes, you are funding terrorism. Whether you consider it directly, in terms of the state terrorism that the US carries out across the globe, or the incidental effects of the terrorism that is unleashed by our activities abroad, the fact is that the money you dutifully hand over to the government every year is like paying for your own hitman.
Chumba is currently mired in a battle with the IRS. I decided to not only stop paying but stop filing. Everyone is warning me to change course, but I will not. I cannot. I said above and I mean it: this ends with me. I haven't filed since 2008 (only sent in an extension request that year) and stopped paying for my 2006 and 2007 (not that I have the money anyway, the banks took it all already). The recent rumblings and bluster from the IRS were seemingly stopped by a Petition to Quash 3rd Party Summons and a three page letter factually pointing out the incompetence of the agent that was supposed to audit me. I haven't heard from them in over a month. Either I'm in the eye of the hurricane or I've managed to at least temporarily throw them off balance. We shall see...
* DEFAULT ON ALL YOUR CREDIT CARDS - I've said it so many times before: they got their bailout, now why don't you take yours? Stop paying the TBTF banks for money they conjured out of thin air in the first place, thereby inflating the currency and contributing to a rise in all prices. They fucked the economy up to the point that it is now difficult for most of us to make our scheduled payments, so why should we have to suffer austerity while they continue their weekend benders replete with coke and whores? FUCK THAT. Stop paying them back. Max out your credit cards (on gold and silver, see below), then throw them away when they won't spend anymore and never look back. Don't take the calls of the bankers and ignore the collectors. They are already so busy dealing with the people who defaulted when the economy collapse in 2008 that they won't even be able to get around to you until after it won't matter anymore.
Chumba is currently being sued by Chase over the money they think I owe them. My court trial is set for next year. Keep in mind, this is an action that began in January of this year. The wheels of justice are grinding, straining more like it. The case load is climbing and the system is going to be on the verge of breaking at some point. I doubt my case will even go to trial as I have three slam dunk strategies for quashing the bank's lawsuit. They will then be forced to sell the debt to a collector and from then on it just gets easier to repudiate and rebuke the debt. The other four credit card companies that are after me haven't had the balls yet to sue. Sure, they huffed and puffed and threatened to blow my house down, but after I simply continued to ignore their entreaties, they went back to just meekly attempting to contact me by phone and mail to "work out the debt". Ha ha! FUCK YOU! I got my bailout, bitches!!
* CLOSE YOUR BANK ACCOUNT - You don't like how our economy is being run? Well, you always had a way to dissent in the most effective way possible, which is to withdraw your consent in the form of the money you keep in the system. Withdraw all your money from your local bank, whether it be a TBTF or a local community bank. As long as they are FDIC insured then they are part and parcel of the Federal Reserve system, and we must throw off the yolk of their control. The only way to do that is to withdraw from their purview.
What Chumba is doing: I tried. Damn it, I tried, and it is still just too difficult to operate a business (especially one in which you are dealing with well-healed clients, i.e. the type that have too much at stake in the rigged game to go along with your one man protest) without one. I have all my clients/customers who pay by check make them out to my name, but without a regular bank account it is difficult to near impossible to cash person-to-person or even business-to-person checks. You can take checks drawn on large regional banks to a local branch and cash it (with requirements varying from picture ID to multiple forms of ID to having to leave a thumbprint) but in almost every case so far the bank wants a cut. I end up having to pay $5 to the entity to redeem its own debt! Fucking money-grubbing whores! Check-cashing agencies are no better as they will usually only cash payroll checks (i.e. from automated payroll administrators). Same with WalMarts banking services. I could ask all my clients to pay by cashier's check, which would be redeemable at the bank with no fee on my part (although there may be a fee for your client in taking out the instrument) but that would likely be inconvenient for them and for you as well, since if it's drawn on a one branch bank across the country you pretty much have to either hike over to that branch or find a local check cashing place that will cash it--for a fee. For the time being, I have an account at a local community bank (4 branches total) that I use simply for check cashing and the occasional debit card (not VISA CHECK CARD, there's a major difference, which I'll explain below).
And shame on you assholes who are still banking with a TBTF monstrosity! I don't care if they offer free checking and cash back for purchases and a blowjob with every deposit, you must withdraw your money from them and close your accounts!
On Visa Check Cards: you were scammed. Bamboozled. Baited and switched. Remember the original ATM cards? They were (and are) true debit cards. You put your card in to pay for your purchase, the local terminal logs in to the interbank clearinghouse, checks your balance and, if it's sufficient, affirms the transaction and the amount is debited from your account right then and there.
With a check card, it's really just a credit card in disguise, waiting for you to go below your checking balance so that it can loan you the money at a usurious rate of interest in the form of an overbalance fee. See, this was never explained to you in all the happy Visa commercials that showed all the smiling, brain-dead consumers merrily acquiring stuff using their convenient Visa Check Cards, that take the money directly out of your checking account so that you don't have to write a check. Not like you wrote checks before, only inconsiderate people who got joy out of holding up an entire line of shoppers at the grocery store to purchase $1.38 worth of TicTacs used checks. What they didn't tell you was that when you signed up for one you were giving your consent to the bank to loan you your own money.
Chumba is (primarily) cash only!
* CONTEST EVERY CITATION - I know this seems insignificant, but it's not. Counties and municipalities (that means your local city) are increasingly using fines and fees to fleece the public so that they can retire with their bloated pensions intact. A speeding ticket that used to cost maybe $50 is now between $300-$400 and points on your record, which I'm sure the insurance company will merrily use to bump up your premium. By fighting every traffic ticket, even when you know you're "guilty", you gum up the system and you make it work as it was itended. You must make it a practice to regularly exercise your due process rights. Make the system respond to you, instead of the other way around. If they think you're guilty of a crime against the State for going a few miles above the speed limit, even though it was perfectly safe and reasonable to do so without any chance of danger or harm to fellow citizens, then make them prove it!
Chumba is currently fighting a traffic ticket that I got last September. My goal is to push the trial out past the anniversary date. Not because it increase the chances that the pig won't show to the trial, due to calendar snafus, vacations, transfers to another department/beat, etc., which it does, but because the journey is the reward. I have forced the courts to follow the law and not take the usual shortcuts they are accustomed to with more ignorant and compliant members of the public. I am wreaking havoc up and down the courthouses in this particular county, and have even taken my fight all the way to Sacramento, and am possibly planning a legal action in courts to force the court system to change the way it handles security at the courthouses. It's not that I am trying to avoid confronting the officer in court at trial. I want to. And not because I have a solid defense that I wasn't going 85 in a 65. Heck, I fucking was, and will happily admit to that in court in front of the judge, the cop, and the entire assembled courtroom. The problem is that won't matter, because they will not be able to proceed with the trial anyway. You see, I know they law. And I know something about the law that they, in their haste to simply ring up convictions and keep their pensions and benefits safe, they apparently overlooked the parts of the law having to do with separation of powers, due process, rules of evidence, etc.
Look, traffic court is a joke, especially so in California and probably so in all other states. There is not one traffic ticket that I don't think I can beat in some way. I'm not afraid of these people. To me, a traffic ticket is an invitation to fun. It is like the court saying, "Hey, please come here and fuck with us! We love having our collective asses handed to us!"
In the past year I have also beat a bullshit registration "fix-it" ticket (yeah, it was the principle) and a parking ticket.
* DO NOT VOTE - yes, voting is the folly of fools. The systems are rigged, god damn it! You can see this with your own eyes in plain daylight. The electronic voting systems are trade secrets and the data they produce is proprietary to the companies that have the contracts to administer them. WHY DON'T YOU SEE THIS ALREADY? It's beyond fucking obvious! Your vote does not count! Your vote is a waste of the time you take out of your day to read up on the candidates and issues and then head over to the polling booth to cast your ballot. It's also a waste of the warm and fuzzy feeling you get when you leave the polling place and pat yourself on the back for being a good citizen. Fuck that! You're an idiot! You didn't just vote, you just held up the illusion of voting so that the people who really make the decisions and the candidate selections have culpable deniability when the statistics and recounts show unexplainable anomalies.
Your boycotting of the system sends a message to TPTB, that you are not falling for it anymore and they can take their stupid elections and fuck themselves sideways. And before you start getting worried that TPTB will just be making decisions for you, they were going to do it anyway. You lost your vote when we switched from paper ballots to proprietary electronic systems.
* BUY GOLD AND SILVER - yes, it is as simple as that. When you trade Federal Reserve Notes for gold, you accomplish several things. One, you have prepared for the future collapse of fiat currencies globally. Kudos to you. Two, you have put more FRN into circulation, increasing its velocity and prodding it that much closer towards hyperinflation, which means the end of this regime and its banking overlords. Three, you have unwittingly voted for a reform of our monetary system by adopting hard money for your savings. Four, you have withdrawn your money from the banking system, hampering their ability to bloat the currency and inflate away your purchasing power with their fractional reserve system, and putting them one step closer to insolvency. Money is the lifeblood of the banking system, literally. Just as you would slit the throat of a beast and drain it of its blood, take the money out of the banks and sacrifice them upon the alter of their own greed.
Damn, but I am out of time and must get to some errands. If there are mistakes or parts where I trailed off, I will update and fix this later.
In the meantime, I hope this reaches at least ONE person. And hopefully that one person will reach another, and that one another. This can only work if you get up the courage to finally take a stand and say ENOUGH. Your children will never forgive you for delivering them into the clutches of evil, so don't let that happen. YOU must put an end to it yourself. You cannot pass the torch on to the next generation for them to take on the battle, because by then the flame will have been extinguished.
I am Chumbawamba.
Chumba,
Although I agree with your views, some of them are harder for some to accomplish than others. For instance, not paying taxes does not apply to everyone. When they are deducting from you pay automatically, what can you do? Not having a bank account is just as tough for some because the system makes you have a bank account in order to get your pay as now most employers require direct deposit and no longer issue paper checks. I claim married and 5 and they still take money, does raising it to married and 10 make any difference? Probably not much, or I get flagged for frauding the IRS system. Not voting doesn't solve the issue completely, voting is important, the people who vote need to know who they are voting for is the problem. What they stand for, and where they get their campaign money. I guarantee 90% of the people who vote have no clue about these things. They vote for names they are familar with. Hopefully, people will vote incumbents out the next two elections.
NOW, I absolutely agree, and have pushed this for a while myself, for everyone to stop paying on everything. Everyone collectively not paying their mortgages, credit cards, car payments, etc... COLLECTIVELY!!!!! will bring the system to its knees quickly. They can't sue everyone, or foreclose on everyone. But most of all, organization is key. People need to form together and get in the streets of D.C. and tell these crooks to leave office, otherwise we throw them out. They can't stop millions of people all at once.
Workers strikes have been very successful in the past. People have to be willing to receive blows and go hungry and suffer though.
I wonder what effect there would be if we all went back to using cash everywhere.
Apparently, it's not common knoweledge, but you can increase your withholding exemptions to any level with impunity, even though you are required to state the accurate number of exemptions on any tax return you do file. Thus, everyone has the power to resist the tax withholding system under current law. Those that wish to support Chumba should claim 12 or thirteen exemptions immediately.
Avoid taxes by buying/working off the books. Buy stuff off craigslist etc.
No sales tax, no money to the beast. It may not be much, but spread the word,
and it builds.
Agreed, I've always been an extremist. But I did consider that perhaps some of these remedies might be a bit much for the beginner. So here are some "softer" suggestions:
* Grow a garden - learn to be self-sufficient in producing your own food. Put in fruit trees. Improve your irrigation. Getting good, healthy, unadulterated foods is one of the most primary necessities of all. Our food supply is increasing being polluted, intentionally if you consider (as I do) MSG and HFCS (high-fructose corn syrup) to be poisons. Fruits and vegetables from the store are bland and tasteless. A homegrown fruit or vegetable tastes like it should because it was grown as it should be.
Chumba is a bit late with our garden this year but we've got the tomatoes going and our artichoke plant is happily flowering away. I'm putting in another garden box and I am still pondering over how to convert the lawn in the front yard into a community garden of sorts.
* Get a gun - even if you are ethically opposed to guns, it is your right to own one, and it might be a right that you may rue forgoing when They take it away. You might also want to reconsider your opposition to firearms. Guns are the great equalizer. A person trained to use a firearm has every advantage that anyone else does. I don't care what your age or your build or your gender or whatever, if two people on opposite sides of a dispute both have guns then they are equally capable of severely injuring or killing the other. It is this fact, this understanding that the other person is as capable of killing you as you are of they that keeps us at bay. Think of it in natural terms: who fucks with the rhino in the jungle? No one, bitches. Not even the lions (OK, except for the green ones ==> http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AJwweJ7_uKY). In fact, not even other rhinos, cuz they're both armed. The reason the USA and the USSR never went at it nuclearly is because we both knew that we would annihilate each other if we got into an exchange. Guns are not necessarily a weapon; sometimes they are merely a deterrent. You can get over your opposition to guns by thinking of them as a deterrent tool. One last thought: is it better to be slaughtered as a defenseless lamb or go out in a blaze of glory? I realize there is a minority I will never convince, and god bless them. But for everyone else, get a gun.
Chumba has an arsenal.
* Buy local - try to buy all your goods from local stores. Get as many of your groceries from the local farmer's market. If you don't have one, try to get one started. It is as close to a traditional unfettered black market as you are going to find in America. Don't shun the thrift stores and swap meets: cash for goods, no taxes involved (generally). Starve the beast. Plus, you always find cool shit in the thrift stores. And of course, craigslist, the ultimate black market. Buyer and seller meeting and transacting without the avaricious hand of the System trying to interfere.
Chumba has spent more time in thrift stores than I have in department stores most of the last 13+ years. What I can't get from my recycling business I seek out in either the thrift stores or the dollar store. I rarely spend any money in retail stores anymore. I regularly buy and sell via craigslist.
* Barter - try bartering: trade your skills and homemade goods with others. It's the ultimate way to keep it local, and both parties benefit from the exchange. While it is not tax free in the legal sense (the venal and mendacious IRS actually considers barter a form of "income" and therefore taxable, so beware) what they don't know won't hurt you.
Chumba gets dektop and laptop computers that come in through my recycling business that I refurbish and trade for yard work, house work, babysitting, etc. I offer up my many skills in exchange for others'. I traded a big screen TV (a 62" Sony monstrosity that could house a Laotian boat family) for half an ounce of weed a while back.
* Turn off the TV - if you haven't already. Stop feeding your mind junk. If you consume network television, basic cable schlock, any so-called news channel, then why don't you also take up a healthy methamphetamine addiction while you're at it? Just think of all the TV you'll be able to watch as you stay up endlessly. Just turn the shit off already. And for fuck's sake, turn off NPR, which is just the liberal version of Limbaugh and Hannity. Listen to Pacifica Radio (http://www.pacifica.org/) to get real news and information (albeit with a hippy bent and the occasional lefty propaganda, but it's better than the pure shit you get on CNN).
Chumba is regularly tuned to KPFA out of Berkeley and I have to say my favorite program is Flashpoints (http://flashpoints.net). When I had TV (I got rid of my cable service over a year ago when I started cutting the household budget and haven't looked back) I almost religiously watched Amy Goodman on Link TV (http://linktv.org)
* Get to know your neighbors - how many of us really know all of our neighbors? I know how it is, but really, start making an effort. Go over one day and just introduce yourself. These are the people you will be relying on, and who will be relying upon you when the shit hits the fan.
Chumba knows about half the neighbors up and down my street. I need to make time to start to getting to know the rest.
* Buy gold and silver - once again, this is something everyone can do that is both beneficial to you while being perhaps one of the most potent of blows against the system that anyone can employ.
GOLD BITCHES!! It's more than a slogan, it's a way of life.
Listen folks, it comes down to simplicity. Live it. There is nothing more sublime than re-discovering simplicity. The less responsibility you have to schedules and other people the more at peace you will feel, and the more time you will have to think about the way things are and why they should be changed and how to go about effecting that change.
Make it happen. It's all about You.
I am Chumbawamba.
I must say Chummy... I admire your spunk kid.
Admire? You should visit Reggie's new blog:
http://www.spunkonmyclothes.com/blog/
The dorks who come in here farting all over the place while we're trying to have a serious discussion are the same douchebags that support Israeli apartheid and zionism. Coincidence? You be the judge.
I am Chumbawamba.
Support? Funny. I have read some of your comments and was left uninspired. Nevertheless, lets trade.

Hey Chumba, the big super markets will cash your checks for you for a dollar or two once you get one of their shopping cards. A client made a check out to me from a "Sovereign" bank. I found out there was a branch inside a near by Stop and Shop (SS). However the bank said they had a new policy for cashing checks for people that don't have accounts- $5 and fingerprinting. I walked over to the SS's courtesy desk and they cashed it after I signed up for a card with my name and address. Also, if you get to know somebody in a restaurant/tavern type of establishment, they will always be happy to cash your check, especislly if your a regular.
Chumba, I am with you on this. I actually think ZH should dedicate a portion of the web site to discussing strategies for taking down the squid. I think there are plenty of things we can do. Some you have mentioned. I bet there are many who have their own ideas that can contribute.
Chumba, Armchair,
I'm with you guys too, except I cannot go in all the way. The IRS would seize too much of assets that are put away for my descendants.
However, you have just inspired me to stop payment on a check I just wrote where "they" (camera, actually) said I ran a red light. I've got the time for a trial, etc.
I'm OK with not voting.
I'm REAL OK with buying Gold and Silver and Platinum.
I will not run up my credit cards and then default. They may have screwed me (not much, my situation is different than yours Chumba), but I am not going to that level.
Chumba! I believe we all wish you the most fun possible as you do your part to wreck the spreading of what amounts to Fascism here in America. Good luck and be careful.
...
Armchair's idea of a sector here at ZH to discuss strategies of taking down the squid is EXCELLENT!
Tyler!
Tyler!
Tyler!
Hear our cries for a forum where we can MERRILY TAKE DOWN THE SQUID!!!
"Yes we can"!
Well. Did you think about the risk that 'taking down the squid' means vaporizing the 'assets put away for descendants'?
Which side so you choose then?
Because what you say is - it's cool you guys are making a revolution, but the current system actually protects my money so well, that I don't want to risk joining the revolution. But yeah, the revolution is really cool!
I hear and respect what you are saying Immanuel. A lot of what I hold will not get vaporized...
My thinking is the system is going to come down no matter what we do. I wish to be prepared and am well down the trail of passing along real wealth to my kid. To my grandchildren later (if God wills).
If the system DOES go down, yeah it will be very hard and suck for everyone. But, I think with the near Biblical problems we now face, that it is best to be prepared.
That also means to be armed to protect your wealth.
Another blow to the system that I am employing is no longer paying home insurance. If you own your home sans mortgage you don't have to pay those azzhat insurance companies a damn dime for insurance. Make sure you have enough PMs or dollars to cover any reasonable loss and then become self insured.
Same with vehicles...If you own them pay only liability and drive the damn things till the wheels fall off.
"When you pay your income taxes, you are funding terrorism. "
Interesting perspective. Currently I pay my taxes and give charitibly to our snipers in theater. The gear for that gets better and better, and generally you can buy it over the counter stateside.
You're part of the problem. You are Them. You are the enemy.
I am Chumbawamba.
Hi Chumbawumba,
I agree that it's a matter of what you're comfortable doing... but add that people should things through before they take action.
People who take the approach proposed in your original post may feel good about what they are doing, but they will end up with bad credit, no bank account and little or no political influence. They might have a considerable amount of PMs stored up, but what's next? Just picking up your marbles and going home? Well, one possible outcome of that strategy is the powers that be TAKE your home (and all the registered PMs in it), which may not be what they had in mind originally. Again, think it through.
Personally, I can see the wisdom of "flying under the radar" while all this plays out:
Please note, none of what I'm recommending paints a target on your back, nor does it makes you stick out like a sore thumb. It simply gives you more flexibility when the defecation hits the oscillator.
Chumba, I created this website a year or so ago, it could be usefull in the battle. feelingrebellious.com. Nobody f****ing uses it so I'd happy to donate it to the z-hedge community if it helps out at all. It probably needs a tickly here and there but its to the point.
You don't even have to bitch about it chumba. Gold is a store of wealth. As long as you are using federal reserve notes the store of wealth is in the banks hands. And they aren't storing it for you. They are spending it on assholes and stupid shit. So all everyone has to do is TAKE FUCKING DELIVERY OF YOUR WEALTH. Store it yourself and yank the creation of bullshit right out of their hands.
IT'S JUST THAT SIMPLE.
Agreed. Protesting, armed revolt, these things won't work. Voting is a joke. Until the people become poverty stricken and hungry enough. The police state that is the US will not permit any of those things. My fear is that they will take the last nonviolent means of a no confidence vote, buying/selling/owning PMs. What is going to be the flash point to organically cause the revolt? I don't know.
And folks, please remember, the Gulf leak is not just gonna harm us, but eventually, all of the Caribbean nations. Many will lose the sole means of their populations to feed themselves. Already, fish stocks have been depleted by overfishing in many areas of the Caribe, causing intermittent shortages on grocery shelves in many of those nations. This will greatly aggravate an already bad situation. What is gonna happen when millions of people on the islands and shorelines of the region have to deal with hunger and a degraded environment that will not, in the near future, or ever, recover?
What are people going to do forty years from now when the oceans are largely dead? Obviously, not eat much sea food.
I'm with you, Chumba. I withdrew my consent the moment Obama got elected.
It's true -- the results would have been different if we had someone competent like McCain/Palin. Ahhhh - we missed our chance!
The Republicons and Decepticrats are just different sides of the same coin -- the Leviathan Party!

"We have been taught all our lives that "government knows best". Well guess what? It doesn't. And it never fucking did"
I have to disagree. At one point Government was actually a regulatory agency that set acceptable standards for work and various quality controls.
That is back when people actually had some honor. When some could not be bought.
Those people are either dead or retired. Their intellectual heirs have situational ethics that lack a moral compass.
Who do you look too when Ralph Nader dies? Who filled George Carlin's shoes? Where are the modern day Smedley Butler or Abbie Hoffman?
It is fucking sad when so called pirates, both the digital and physical, have not only a better work ethic but actual ethics and pride.
In this case government and parents are both at fault for not enlightening the children. Both became too selfish and self interested and allowed the light of reason to die.
"In this case government and parents are both at fault for not enlightening the children. Both became too selfish and self interested and allowed the light of reason to die."
You correctly call out two groups who are to blame. What about us? You know who I mean, you and I and we and them and they and those? Where is the recognition that by the time we reach our late teens or early 20's, we are fully responsible for what we do or don't do, regardless of what we were taught or how we were treated or how we are manipulated or how we allowed ourselves to be manipulated?
When do we start treating ourselves as responsible adults and citizens and demanding of us what we are demanding of others? Since it's clear neither the government nor our parents are going to right this ship, I guess it's up to us to at least fix what we screwed up, which in my case is 30+ plus years of taking with very little giving back. We aren't blameless in this mess. Where is our moral courage?
CD, I said it before in a thread about something else, and it created a firestorm, so will not repeat verbatim.
But.... one of the things to realize, in the grand scheme of things is that this land you call your "own", never was and never can be. You are all strangers on a strange land.
True, it is where you were brought up and the near extinction of the natives is old news, but I do believe the land has memories. And it is too bad, or just okay, depending on how you see thing, that your generation gets to pay.
Of course you all also know that the Bureau Of Indian Affairs has been one of the MOST criminal departments of the US three letter agency system.
My suggestion, everyone reach out in some way to the folks whose land it is you currently inhabit.
They have been left as Museum pieces, casino waiters and waitresses, drunk, culturally stripped... a centuries (maybe millenia?) old lifestyle gone in a a relative flash.
Not that anything will stop this, whatever you see "this" as bearing down upon you, and therefore all of us.
But small gestures can create peace, both within and without.
I've seen them closely, the Native Americans, the Aborigines in Australia.... the heavy and heartless hand of your colonial fore-fathers must be acknowledged.
From deep within.

The "natives" had no concept of property ownership, in many cases they were individual nations and not united but warring factions. They still have their own countries on the reservations.
Right.
And all is well in the world.

If the subsurface scattering of light in the satellite image is from oil, then it looks as big as Florida on merely the 2 dimensional view, not even considering most of it hasn't surfaced.
Click on this page and on the Gulf Photos tab. These are the pictures no one in the government or BP want people to see. This problem is becoming more and more dangerous as the gusher continues to spew oil. The bird in one photo off Louisiana coast line is simply sad and pitiful, and I am sure there a thousands of these like it somewhere. Chumba is right guys, its time to organize a few million strong and be heard in D.C., because obviously the dog and pony show Obama is running, is not going to solve this, and the government could care less. The only thing this governent cares about now is Wall Street and the scam being run there and how to aid it. We need to take a page out of our forefathers' book and learn something from what they had to do to be free and change corrupt and dishonorable people in charge of our lives.

That bird took my breath away. Imagine existing inside there behind those eyes looking out on the world. You can't breathe, you smell and taste it, and this gunk is stuck all over you weighing you down. The inner struggle must be intense. What a nightmare of a way to die.

I get the odd thing from other guys that I swap trades with. This is a pciture of what the oil spill is doing to dolphins. It's the only one that looked like a dolphin, the rest looked like cancerous balloons.
And you don't have a cerebral cortex, and thus no consciousness, with which to think any of the above. Birds are interesting but lets not lose touch. Humans and higher mammals first.
I have been worried about you for months now. You need to get checked for Toxoplasmosis. With all of your cats climbing all over your keyboard your infection rate probability is very high.
Please get checked tomorrow, k?
I am only a projection screen. Pixels on a computer screen. The real reason you are angry at me is that I asked you a question that made you think about your motivations for a comment. It was just a question, no attributions, no blame, nothing. What ever you read into it was yours, not mine. If you thought it was ugly, instead of being ashamed of it, ask yourself how you got to the point that you made the assertion you made. You can see it, make the choice not be ashamed, and change it. I doubt you will. I think you will post more hateful shit to me. So it goes.
Peace to you.

Thanks for taking the time to write that. The thing is, going numb is a survival trait. I can't hate that. Trauma is the key to the whole thing. Modern society is so fast that we have to disconnect some in order to survive it. Feeling it all would make the whole thing grind to a halt. But that same disconnect allows us to make choices that are about short term gratification rather than what is good in the long term for the collective. That disconnect got us the oil spill. And over eating, drinking, drugs, television, videogames, (insert your favorite numbing out here). If we all felt it full force, we would have to stop. I'm drinking my second glass of red wine as I type this. Thanks again for taking the time to connect with me.

Would you please stop worrying already, guize? Even as we speak, the newly created Federal Preserve is in the process of transporting large amounts of water from the Chinese Sea into the Gulf of Mexico in order to increase degrationary pressures until the gulf can take care of itself again. And even that isn't really necessary, because properly calculated, i.e. taking into account the swarm of ice comets our MBA-holding astronomers forecast, the gulf is technically already on the road to recovery.
The solution to pollution is dilution? LOL!
We prefer to call it "diffusive easing".
Polluters form of quantitative easing. lol.
Causes elliot wave inflaton (Tsunami)
It is theorized that one of the greatest mass extinctions in earth’s history was caused by a deep ocean methane (natural gas) explosion from the ocean floor. Do these people (BP) really know what they are doing, I wonder. Apparently turning the Gulf into the Dead Sea is just one of a series of many fumbles. Everyone is worried about oil on the beaches. The eruption caused by the Horizon is the largest methane gas eruption in modern history, depleting the oxygen from the water to the point of suffocating all life.
I suffered from several methane gas explosions yesterday after I ate a large bean burrito.

Thanks for exposing this very dangerous oil spill. The reason the rate of flow is increasing daily is not because BP is lying. Per Matt Simmons the steel casing has collasped (700,000 lbs of steel to the center of the earth) and high pressure erosion channels are being cut at 15000 psi through the sandy formation to mulitple locations miles away from the well bore. The well will likely never be capped/leaks stopped and hundreds of millions bbls of oil will leak for years rendering the GOM essentially a dead sea as the oxyegen levels in the water are depleted. Toxic fumes (ethane/benezene) will move onshore and force the evacuation of millions. Until the leaks stop, the potential cost should be measured in trillions, not billions. President Obama was absolutely correct in comparing the current situation with the threat posed at the beginning of WWII. Think nuke at the bottom of the well bore as the only possible way to stop this oil leak. Consider that the nuke option will cause radioactive water to come onshore. This is a very serious situation until the leak stops. BP and administration are completely aware of the risk. But making public announcements will likely cause panic. If the relief well fails (which Matt guarantees) then the reality will be discussed openly.
Obama is doing everything in his power to STOP the sucess of stopping these leaks.(why do you turn down help offered from all over the world?), a real CARING leader, would say, Bring it on!!, now, asap, please, YES!!!...............(not 57 days later have a frigging meeting).
There is according to BP, approx 2 Billions more gallons in this deposit.
As for Nuking the main shaft, it's not an issue,as far as radioactive waste.
The Fed Gv't, and other Gvt's have performed MANY underwater/sub sea floor nuke blasts.......over the years.
The real issue, is if this option is used, will it crack the dome, and cause more leaks, running horizontally.
Those would be impossible to seal, esp with the abrasive action, of the sand/PSI pressures.
But, someone has to grow a set, IF they want it shut down.
At this point, and from day ONE, I think Obama did not want it stopped, never has.......not until he get's the American Power Act passed.( Never fail to take advantage of a Crisis).
The man is incapable of any road, except HIS road, and idiology.....
Until people see him for what HE IS,what he's accomplishing, and trying to accomplish, you will never understand.........
Because WE think logically.............we want to solve problems, they want to create them............
If you haven't figured this out yet, your not paying attention, or your hopeless.
It's too bad, we did not elect someone as clear headed as you. Everyone is a Monday morning quarterback.
And I thought everyone on this forum agrees that government should keep out of everything. Why are you squealing for them to do anything? Thought you were all powerful and self sufficient.
You can rave and rant all you want but if you want to make a difference, start by changing yourself. Or just come to expect that our lifestyle has unintended consequences.
I'm not sure that it is "monday morning quarterbacking" to ask why more assets were not more promptly deployed nor is it out of line to criticize the Bummer and his curious crew (a Barry Goldwater phrase) for lack of foresight about the potential harm to Gulf residents.
If I misunderstood your point, my apologies in advance.
The sinking of Kursk nuclear submarine was handled similarly in a klugy manner by the Russian government. All governments are programmed to hide the scope of disaster from it's public because they know that the bearer of the news is always blamed. The govt. always hopes that by buying time something may come to mitigate the disaster and save them from the fury of the public.
Humm from theoildrum.com - it appears that the next news to arrive will be the collapse of the 450 ton structure of the Blow-out Preventer (BOP) as the sea floor crumbles from the flow abrasion. For more fun news, see node/6593#comment-648967. Though I admit that it would be more spectacular if it was shot to the surface much like the Russian Sub in Red October!
The writing is from one not accepted as knowledgeable at theoildrum.com. That view is not the view of the oil field experts who write there.

The bamster doesn't know shit. What threat was posed to the United States at the beginning of WWII?
Nuke, baby, nuke. But President Bambi has no balls. He will not try anything risky... where ANY blame could possibly fall on him, baby. He's "in charge", but not actually responsible for anything.
The oil will leak significantly only as long as there is gas pressure. In worst case scenario, they will drill dozens of wells and siphon out and burn off all the gas... that will end the spill. About a year from now.
I don't understand all the alarm over a hurricane... seems to me that it would be good for the spill. Obviously a hurricane is not good, if it makes landfall and destroys property/hurts people, but it would effectively spread this oil over such a large landmass as to make it unnoticeable - exactly what we want.
A hurricane will transport oil and Corexit hundreds of miles inland, probably sterilizing the Mississippi delta region (goodbye cotton and soybeans). The dispersants are nasty stuff.
Not trying to be alarmist. REmember, the Feds said the air at ground zero was safe to breathe.
And a great big Thank you to the government for warning all of us.
Not. Isnt this murder? When you send folks out to work on the spill or platform, isnt that murder? When the air ,water and hurricane mix it will hurt many people. Some will die. Isnt that murder for lack of a warning?
1/4 of our GDP is more or less from the gulf. We have been impoverished, poisoned and lied to. Yet we still obey the fools! infuckencredible.

"I don't understand all the alarm over a hurricane... seems to me that it would be good for the spill"

I've lived in Fl for 40 years + (mostly in Coral Gables)
The day after Andrew I was able to slowly move around town on my motorcycle (rather a dumb thing to do with power lines all over the road) I was the sole vehicle that on the roads.
Two days later I was the first non-government vehicle (car) that made it to Homestead Fl (they had just opened the toll roads at 4:30 AM)
A strong hurricane (cat 4-5) is quite nasty. If Andrew had gone North just 25 miles 1000s would have died and property loses would have been 100x.
As for those ships around the Gulf working on the spill, well, they move out of the way, just like the cruise ships and the Navy ships.
__
In terms of hurricanes, the US Government says there is nothing to worry about. But virtually all academic experts say it's a big unknown... but there is a strong likleyhood of toxins carried inland. When a million kids get sick... all hell will break loose. You will see rioting and mass civil unrest... against a President that cannot stop lying, baby.
Obama will need a full military escort to visit the Gulf for his photo ops.
What a fucking farce...
"Spokeswoman Sheila Williams says Hayward took time off his duties handling the oil spill catastrophe in the Gulf of Mexico to see his boat "Bob" participate in the J.P. Morgan Asset Management Round the Island Race on Saturday."
...To see his boat Bob...I'll tell you what I'd like to see "Bob" in the Gulf of Mexico.
A boat named "Boom?"
Maybe someone will steal it, just saw a blurb about Jenna Bush's bicycles being stolen in Baltimore. It's a bitch when you don't get Secret Service protection anymore, or is she? I really don't know, do ex-President's family members get SS?
Yes and tax payers pay for it. The are protected for life and it does cost a good chunk of money. I think Jimmy Carter is the only one who declined and provides his own security.
Well then, guess SS isn't doin a very good job. She better get to daddy's farm in dictatorial Paraguay soon.
At least they don't put up with crime in those dictatorial countries. Think China has a crime problem like Washington, DC?
No, but they will have to, eventually, deal with the native pop that they have been killing and poisoning to take the land. The genocide of native pops in the US succeeded a long time ago. The genocide down there is continuing.
China is one of the most corrupt countries on earth, bud. Literally everyone in the Party is on the take.
Yes, i was thinking of street crime. But that could change. Soon.
Take a look on google streetview in Macau and HK. The streets are clean, there is no grafitti, there are no "urban youths" milling about. Now let's compare that to the U.S. financial hub of NYC, the comparison is night and day.
billionare war criminals have minders.
If they cut Haywards arms and legs off and threw him in the gulf too, it would be double bob.
Very revealing about Hayward having a boat named, "Bob". What regular person would have a boat named, "Bob". This would have been a major TELL. To bad we didn't know before he destroyed the GOM.
What hasn't been talked about at all is this is the Atlantic nursery for roughly the food produces for around 2.5 billion people. There might be big fish in the deep ocean, but they start as smelts somewhere in the Caribbean Ocean. The Mississippi delta is one of the largest feeding and starting patches of life in the Atlantic left.
It'll be interesting to see how one year of missed breeding in an overfished ocean culls the human herd.
Not to mention the lack of WD-40...it'll be interesting to see how long any power generation and large machines in work without lubricants.
I just happened to get a nice long and involved education at just how important the coastal areas are for the propogation of life in the entire ocean. I was really interested in it and studied it extensively not knowing it would only be good for coming to a conclusion about how fucked the world is. There will be food shortages. It's simply a few few months away. There will huge food shortages. Those are years away. There are single strains of trees that are soley responsible for the early care of millions of tons of life.
http://www.floridasnature.com/florida%20trees1.htm#Red%20Mangrove
For the umpteenth time WD-40 is not a lubricant but a disolvant.
For the umpteenth time WD-40 is not a lubricant but a disolvant.
That would be umpteen and one.
they can just suck oil from the huge underwater blobs, nature got fucked but oil will be cheap!

A great discussion @ the future - (peak oil, deflation, supply chain shut-downs, totalitarianism ...)
http://www.theoildrum.com/node/6574
The main arguement behind peak oil is really the size of the population using it. Reduce human population and a lot of the problems tend to "go away".
I'm always surprised when the green movement hasn't embraced population control as it is one of the easiest control factors. Nerf the jewels at birth and figure out the mechanics later on. We already know population controls don't work as a political gesture thanks to China (nobody really knows if they are 1.4 or 1.9 billion, India...laughable number tallies). Why not just take the next step of snip snip, tuck tuck at birth along with licensing.

This is incorrect.

It is bleeding oil.
This is a disaster.

This disaster has become a war of semantics. IMO, everyone's become too comfortable with the "barrel" estimates. Maybe its time people started using "gallons" to help drive home the magnitude of the problem.
120,000 barrels sounds almost manageable. 5,040,000 gallons sounds pretty fucking bad.

Does anyone know how to get past a W-4? I recall reading somewhere that there is a form # xxxx that can be used in place of the common W4 for withholdings. So far, I can only do the 'married and 9'.
This mysterious form allowed for NO withholdings
There was some discussion about how you were allowing your employer to become an 'agent' for the handling of this money to then be passed onto the fed by using the current W4, and the form I am blathering about made YOU the agent.
I apologize for not having more specific info, I am not a lawyer, nor did I stay at Holiday Inn last night...
Are you talking about a 1099?
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tax_forms_in_the_United_States#1099_series
If your employer can tell you what time to show up for work and where to show up for work, the IRS considers you an employee. You must use a W-2. The company withholds required funds and forwards them to the IRS and SSA. If you can determine what time you start work, and where you start it, then the IRS considers you an independent contractor and you can use a 1099. You must forward the appropriate withholdings yourself to the IRS and SSA. Your client will tell the IRS how much they paid you (it's a business expense for them and reduces their taxable income), so you can't really control what the IRS knows about your earnings through using a 1099.
