Ira Sohn Conference In Progress, Einhorn Speaking At 4:45PM, Grantham At 5PM; Klarman At 6:15PM

Tyler Durden's picture

The annual hedge fund "go to" meeting, the Ira Sohn conference, is currently in progress, and 12 hedge funders will discuss their top picks. The place where Einhorn famously declared his Lehman and Moody's shorts, and Ackman announced he was "bearish" on MBIA and Ambac is perceived as the place where HF managers disclose their highest conviction plays, usually leading to major market waves in the ensuing days. The managers presenting this year are as follows:

2:35 Zell
2:50 Jacobson
3:05 Arbess
3:20 Tepper
3:35 Ferguson
3:50 Eisman
4:45 Einhorn
5:00 Grantham
5:15 Dinan
5:30 Rattner
5:45 Robbins
6:00 Ackman
6:15 Klarman

Readers who wish to follow developments at the conference can follow DealBook's Michael de la Merced, who is live tweeting the presentation at @m_delamerced

a quick question: What is the best source for bullion (coins) online. I've used nwtmint.com but they take forever to ship to me. Suggestions?

I've used APMEX and BullionDirect

I prefer BullionDirect simply because they offer more than APMEX in teh way of service and options of liquidation

I just bought AGE's from Gainsville Coins.  Good transaction and fast: shipped the next day.  I asked about buyback and the time they said approx $15 over spot but haven't had a chance to verify.

The nucleo exchange (basically a market between buyer/seller facilitated by bulliondirect) looks interesting...any experience with that? Of course, that will probably take even longer.

I use goldeneaglecoin.com and never had any problems, and they have a wide selection of coins, bars and rounds.

Will be interesting to see the contrasting views of bulls vs. bears. I am very curious to see Tepper vs. Einhorn.

Zell got his money out of the Tribune and stiffed the lenders.  Plus he got his ego toy.

Sam Zell made so much fucking money selling Equity Office Properties to Blackstone (not exactly the dumbest guys in the room) in 2007 that he could drive The Yankees franchise into the ground, marry Lindsay Lohan and build condos on the moon and it wouldn't matter. Some guys have simply earned the right to never again be judged by their last trade.  And if you punch up <home> you'll see

http://www.zerohedge.com/article/game-over-moodys-einhorn-kiss-death-sto...

that Einhorn and Ackman have in fact delivered the goods.

Mercury,  my hat is off to Zell and you didn't even mention the $1 billion of rail cars he sold as well.  The guy is a genius and deserves every penny he has made.  Including what he made on the Tribune deal. Anyone who rode his coattails has done very, very well.

I was skimming Drobny's new book (don't bother) when I realized how/why the world of hedge funds and 'sovereign' capital seems so vague and untouchable...

It's a cult.

Smaller Dealer with great inventory and great prices....Hate to give this one up but ZH has been good to me for the last month.

Gaithersburg Coin Exchange

I've used Monex, local dealers etc....GCE is by far the best.

P.S. I think its time to close Kitco pool accounts and get into all physical. I think Kitco is good but if we had big trouble Kitco would fold like a card house.

Einhorn fearing bubbles and liking gold should send ripples.
One of the few everyone should take very seriously and can picture him at night burning the oil pouring of BAC 10-Ks shaking his head

In a market like this do ultra short ETFs warrant short term trading positions buy on up moments{can't say days anymore with such intraday volitility} or are they still too risky. Bulldung
