1. Egypt (read Mubarak) was the linchpin of Israeli security, the other nations surrounding Israel are NOT going to war without Egypt because they cannot win.
2. Mubarak falls and the subsequent government is both weak and unstable.
3. Israel makes a calculated decision to ignite a war on ITS terms versus waiting for the Egyptian situation to play out to its ultimate radical end.
This would be akin to Israel's pre-emption during the '67 war.
Having said this, let me say that I do not believe Israel would use a flase flag in this manner to escalate events.
They could achieve the same results by placing bombs within the occupied territories and thereby illiciting a genuine response from their enemies which would escalate the situation as needed.

To get the party started, Israel doesn't need to get their people "onboard" with overrunning Palestine, Gaza, Iran, etc. so the premise on its face that Israel needs a "false flag" to get a war started is absurd. The only reason I have a sliver of willingness to hear out Israeli war conspiracy theories is that Israel is currently faced with a very serious dilemna.
1. Waning American support both politically and fiscally. (Israel announcced earlier this year that it expected less support fom the US and would seek strategic partnerships with other nations)
2. The collapse of the Egyptian regime which could unhinge their security if the new government abandons the treaty recognizing Israel. This would require a serious change in philosophy though.
These two events are forcing the Israeli's to calculate whether or not they should pre-empt or wait it out and hope for the best.

The agenda is to expand settlements--take more land. They don't want a two state solution. The only way to prevent it is to subdivide the occupied territories until it becomes impossible.

Actually, you're dead wrong - the worldwide Jewish population is split roughly 50-50 between Ashkenazi and Sephardic Jews. The US has clearly lost control of all three of its balances of power in the middle east. This ultimately is extremely bad news for Israel.
I know this is slightly off topic but who wants to bet that we are playing both sides of this Libyan conflict. The reality is that nestled in all of these populist movements is the very groups we have been at "war" with since 2001. This is just how preverse this situation is. We backed al qaeda against the soviets, we abandoned them as we supported every Arab nationalist regime, they turn it back on us, we go to war with them, now because the political environment has changed, we are supporting them again.
If you look at it from al qaeda's point of view, if these populist movements in the MENA are successful, its 'mission accomplished' and we are now assisting them in that end. The irony being that they never needed to bomb the WTC, even once. They are creatures of the CIA and therefore not economists. They didn't realize that Greenspan set the timer on the timebomb that would blow up the entire western world. They didn't need to fly planes into buildings. Our own ego-maniacal, trickle down, keynsian elites shot the whole system in the head for them.
