It Begins: France Commences Military Action Over Libya
It has begun - From the AP: "Top officials from the United States, Europe and the Arab world have announced immediate military action to protect civilians amid combat between Libyan leader Moammar Gadhafi's forces and rebel fighters. French President Nicolas Sarkozy said after an emergency summit in Paris on Saturday that France has already taken military action against Libya. Sarkozy said "our determination is total." Earlier Saturday, Libyan government troops forces stormed into the rebel capital of Benghazi, apparently ignoring a proclaimed cease-fire and potentially complicating any allied military action."
The photo below shows what happens when a Libyan jet takes on a French fighter jet:
More from Al Arabiya:
Several French Rafale fighter jets on Saturday overflew "all Libyan territory" on reconnaissance mission, ready to enforce an air-exclusion zone to halt Muammar Qaddafi’s attacks on opposition, a French military source said, as Western leaders met in Paris to consider their next steps.
The planes were in the air not far from Libya this afternoon and were ready to carry out air strikes if there are orders from President Nicolas Sarkozy, a military official with knowledge of the preparations said on condition of anonymity.
World leaders gathered in Paris on Saturday to discuss a coordinated military intervention in Libya, where Muammar Gaddafi defied the West with an advance into the rebel stronghold of Benghazi.
A witness from the western town of Zintin has told Al Arabiya that Gaddafi forces were pounding the town with artillery and residents, including women and children, were taking refuge hideouts in the city.
The witness added that Gaddafi forces were attempting to subdue the opposition-held town because of its strategic location west of the capital Tripoli.
An unnamed U.S. official has said the ongoing violence against Libyan civilians "obviously has an impact" on the international community's next steps
U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, British Prime Minister David Cameron and French President Sarkozy met privately and then sat down with Arab leaders, an African Union representative, European Union representatives and European heads of state to prepare rapid U.N.-mandated action.
After Gaddafi broke his pledge of a ceasefire overnight, sources close to the Paris talks said military strikes could start as soon as the meeting ends on Saturday afternoon, with France, Britain and Canada in an initial operation and any participation by the United States or Arab nations coming later.
"The strikes could start around 3 or 4 o'clock (1400-1500 GMT)," one source said, adding that Gaddafi's advance into the eastern city of Benghazi had increased pressure to act fast.
A second source said it was "certainly possible" that strikes would start straight after the meeting.
Sarkozy will address the media after the meeting wraps up at around 3:30 p.m. (1430 GMT) and Clinton, Cameron and Merkel are also expected to make statements.
Iraq's foreign minister was at the talks, as was the Qatari prime minister and United Nations Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and German Chancellor Angela Merkel, even though Germany is not expected to participate in any action for now.
Determined to prove its diplomatic clout after its clumsy handling of the revolt in Tunisia, Paris has been at the forefront of coordinating a world response to the crisis in Libya, where Gaddafi's troops outgun rag-tag and poorly armed rebel forces. Sarkozy was the first foreign leader to recognize the opposition and drop support for Gaddafi.
Backed by Cameron, Sarkozy convened Saturday's talks in a matter of hours after pushing France's U.N. Security Council partners hard this week to back a resolution allowing possible military action and a no-fly zone over Libya.
NATO ambassadors met in Brussels earlier on Saturday to discuss involvement by the 28-member military alliance in enforcing a no-fly zone, but no decision was taken.
A NATO diplomat said Britain, the United States and Canada were in favour of NATO taking a lead in any operation but said Paris was lukewarm on the idea.
"There could be a decision tomorrow saying that NATO will engage in a no-fly zone, but it's still not clear whether it will be a coalition of the willing, or a NATO operation," the diplomat said.
"France seems to have some problem with it being a NATO operation, given NATO's reputation in the Arab world as a result of Afghanistan and given that NATO is seen as an alliance dominated by the United States."
He added: "What is certain is that time is pressing. A delay of 12 hours of so could be very harmful."
Gaddafi's push into Libya's second city of 670,000 people, in spite of the ceasefire pledged on Friday, appeared to be an attempt to pre-empt Western military action.
France and Britain declined to react to the latest attacks ahead of the Paris talks, but a French government source said the international community must act fast.
"Everything is ready (to act) but the decision is now a political one. It's clear we have to move quickly," he said.
French Foreign Minister Alain Juppe met EU Foreign Minister Catherine Ashton earlier on Saturday to discuss the EU's role.
In the meantime pro Gaddafi forces in Tripoli threaten all out civil war, as per Al Jazeera (watch live coverage after the jump).

Looking at things from a Kissengerian point of view, why are the western powers going to war with Libya? Qaddafi has been a good and faithful servant in supplying oil to the west. So why go to war over oil if it was already being supplied?
My initial take on this is that the $$ will begin surging when FX opens Sunday. I'm Central pacific, Dumb money will panic into the $$. This would do well in killing the recent europhoria. (temporarily).
It's all about 'internationalism' now bitches.
Can you trade SDR's yet?
This shit stinks to high heavens. No way is it a coincidence that American empire stands aside and 'waits' for the U.N to act first.
IT IS A SET-UP.
IT IS WHY oBAMA IS THE 'OFFICE HOLDER'
$$ will spike, then crash and burn.
9/11 was just a preperation. The crisis is just around the fucking corner and the 'not letting it go to waste' will be the dollars collapse and subsequent exit as the primary reserve currency.
The replacement reserve will be another form of fiat in an attempt to force a one world dictatorship.
Just my two cents worth.
Undercard fights started today.

Also marked major events in both Gulf Wars.

wow...what did I say like 3 days ago? France wants to try out its toys. They need operational experience from the CDG and they need to see the Rafale in combat ops.
If France can succeed in imposing its will on a 3rd world country remotely, its international prestige goes way up. This is an exercise in geopolitical power projection, no more, no less.
This won't last long. France doens't like spending money on military stuff.

Are really suppose to believe that photo? With fire, there is smoke. Three jets downed in such close proximity, all in the same photo? Please.
No flies on you matey
It's a montage of the same crash.
Moron of the day award goes to you, sir.

Where did they get money for jet fuel ??
And where th F...did the US get their from....? I can answer it for you...China, Japan, and Printers!!!!
They will end up sitting in chairs by the side of the road drinking coffee. Southern Europe is useless when it comes to actually doing anything.

Sorry for the double post, webpage slow to update.

Some here underestimate the French Military capability.
France is doing this to save Italy from having to get involved. Italy is and has been Libya's lover for a while, and they don't want to see 40% of their oil supplies jeopardized, so the Italians and French have already swapped assurances.
And yes, there are almost without a doubt, French Foreign Legion Units on the ground, either arming & training the rebels and/or directly engaging Libyan Paramilitary.
Colonel Q is relying heavily on his AfrikaCorps in doing the depraved work, and they will not be so happy to see French Foreign Legion operations.
The national memory of France must be failing them. Perhaps they have forgotten the last time they were involved in North Africa and what happened to the legion then.
Where is crude going to go on this? Is this going to be stabilizing or not? I'm trying to figure out which way it will go.
Oil, gold, and silver straight up when the markets open 6:00 PM EST Sunday....
France perhaps forgets about the large 5th column in Paris. Now they have opened Pandora's box.
French pilots need the trigger time for when they target the banlieues.
Its amazing how most people just do what they are told and never question it. Let this be a lesson to anyone who ask the question will US Army troops fire on Amerikans. Sure they will do whatever they are told. We are now in a time when the world is full of mind numbed robots doing what they are told and perhaps it always has been so, but now, it seems so obvious. Maybe I just notice more now. Hmmm.....

Theirs not to reason why,
Theirs but to do and die."

Uhhh, that photo was a rebel jet being taken down by Gaddafi. It's on the front page of Al Jazeera.
It certainly looks the same.
Supposedly a "rebel" aircraft.
French engage 4 Libyian tanks outside Benghazi
I hope they whip out the grails and make this game interesting. They have a tiger by the tail and believe me, they just stepped in it...........
The "grails"?
Pardon my ignorance. But what be they?
Russian SA-7s shoulder fired surface to air missles.......nice little toys. I think he has a lot of them. Might make the French stay a tad hot......

Thanks.
That would make things interesting.
Having said that it would be guaranteed that Muammar, Saif, Muatassim and Hannibal would end up on the business end of a rope.
In the meantime, tis but a distraction for ongoing Wall Street Fraud, Federal Reserve Bank crimes, Fukushima Disaster, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia & Yemen, etc.
Update

Israel shells the Palestinians
I know this sounds crazy, but this action by France will only make Gadaffi stronger. Now all of the fence sitters will be angered by this outside inteference in their internal affairs.
Unfortunately, the people of Libya - whether for or against Daffy - will have no say in this Anglo-American 'game'. The objective is simply to replace Daffy with a more compliant dictator to secure future oil supplies for Britain (oh ... and France). Libya has the largest oil reserves in Aftica (though Nigeria produces more each day, Libya has more in the ground).
Daffy is a little too unpredictable for TPTB and likely to give "too much" to China if spoken to the wrong way by Hilarity or Cameruin ... so he simply has to go. The MSM propaganda that he is suddenly another Pol Pot or Saddam Hussein (after years of being good buddies with Tony Blair and the British royals) is to be expected as cover for the operation.
The flanking manoeuvres to install more compliant puppets in bordering Tunisia and Egypt just prior to this charade were to ensure that neither of those non-oil exporters would side with Daffy in any way. Simple.
@Thregg....YES....good observation...the current PM of Isreal really LOVES this situation with strong support from the US admin....SHAME SHAME SHAME
They deliberately did this on a wknd so oil and gold wouldn't go up
Another war that will be seen as bullish for stock markets by Goldman Smith.
some here seem to think this is a French/euro gig only, before jetting off to Rio these were the President's words:
“The United States is not going to deploy ground troops into Libya. And we are not going to use force to go beyond a well-defined goal, specifically the protection of civilians in Libya.”
Obama's word is cheaper than an 50 yo Albanian whore.
Obama is really your typical US citizen. Heir to the long tradition of US citizens.
When you think some would love to make it a foreign born, when Obama is such a fine embodiment of the US spirit...
Do you do anything but spout anti-Americanism? Let's hear about what toilet of a country you're from. I'm sure it's a beacon for humanity.
It smells heavily of Germany, IMO.
Go eat a dick, Analnonymous.
That's disrespectful to 50 yo Albanian whores.
This could get messy, Gaddafi isn't going down without a fight.
God knows what he's got stashed away, maybe some anti-ship missles.
I'm off to the coin shop to buy some more gold, my dealer sells to me for $45 over spot. That's 20 bucks less than what anyone else here sells Eagles, Krugs and Maples for.
Yes he could have some sunburns etc. Not sure. Would he use them? Not sure. He might.
That´s a good price Cap´n. Happy Hunting!
Anyone who sees this and thinks there is no issue with declining oil sufficiency is positively delusional. No one put a no fly zone over Myanmar.
Hell, no one has even considered a no-fly zone over the DRC either... or Somalia for that matter. Guess there is no oil there. Good luck trying to pull this operation on Myanmar. Those folks have counted on invasions for decades and they are prepared in fox holes all over that country. Sure learned their lessons from British colonialism during those pesky Burma years.

oh, Hillary....Hillary.... hillary-ous... yeah, I'm sure Daffy was just salivating over all those "benefits" afforded by "acceptance into the [brotherhood]". I can see him now - just kickin' himself - "damn! I blew it! (again)...I'm missin' out on them benies"
America and Britain are living on stolen oil since 93. it is time for France and Spain to robe on gun point another defence less idiot from his oil. America, Britain and some other will get their fair share.

well I guess them Coats have just finally had it up to here with that bullshit [whatever the hell it might be, over there] can't blame 'em, huh?
Things fall apart; the centre cannot hold;
Mere anarchy is loosed upon the world,
The blood-dimmed tide is loosed, and everywhere
The ceremony of innocence is drowned;
Gaddafi 4/5
Rebles 8/5
French 3/1
Rebles...are they French as well?
Where have we seen this before? Oh right, everywhere. Typical.
Oil/Natty flowing;West Supported Dictator=Good. Oil/Natty not flowing; The West has never, would never support such a Dictator. 'Democracy' at the point of a gun=Good.
All about the oil. And this time instead of the US, we get another former imperialist nation to help carve out North Africa. When's Britain going into Palestine? Germany into Central Africa?
Where is this idea that the US is not involved militarily coming from? CNN, MSNBC etc.
Obama specifically stated that the US would use force just not ground troops (within the limitations of the UN ruling)
Sarkozy goes first and presto this is an EU vs. Libya deal while Obama disappears to Rio. The US is totally involved notwithstanding the sleight of hand and weasel words from the Admin and MSM.
http://hosted.ap.org/dynamic/stories/E/EU_EUROPE_LIBYA?SITE=AP&SECTION=H...
Our Army and our Marines(aka UN ARMY), our sons and daughters, will land in Libya for Hillary and the Bilderberger globalists as soon as control over the airspace is achieved. Did you see how upset Hillary got as Obama dragged his feet? She wont work for him anymore after 2012. Anyway, such a shame that the Globalists move our soldiers and national destiny around like so many chess pieces. Disgusting.
Globalism... In a way. It is all about maintaining the US world order, Pax Americana.
Libya disruption in oil supply, it follows disruption in Italy's economy, it follows disruption in France's economy (they are up to the neck as an Italy's creditor), it follows Eurozone is tanking even more, it follows US world order jeopardized.
Well spoken...+100
You're watching CNN? you mean to get the official US propaganda directly from the source? Heaps of hillaryous Obama hogwash.
"our determination is total."
i.e., bring it on.
Warmongering fucks. I think Ghaddafi and Sarkozy should settle this like men. They should ass fuck until one of them is dead. Save a million civilians from collateral damage. I seriously hate these fucks.
I am not sure a duel to the death - the selected weapon being mutual ass-fuckery - would get us there since they both might enjoy this and leave the rest of us hanging, however I think that swords or perhaps lightsabers would.
Also, they were going to use "Our commitment is somewhat firm", but it didn't sound presidential.
+1
Incidentally, the last time a head of state challenged another to a duel was Oct 3rd 2002, when Saddam Hussein authorized his vice president, Taha Yassin Ramadan to make the offer of a duel between Saddam & GW Bush with Kofi Annan as referee on neutral soil to "save the lives of the American and Iraqi people".
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taha_Yassin_Ramadan
Sarko sure wants some oil and he doesn't want to be remembered for being a wimp. This is his George Herbert Walker Bush moment. No "misunderestimations" here. Vous comprenez? Sarko is a sad picture of a man. Pathetic excuse for a man, not sure if he can outdo Obama though.
Endgame. Riling up the psychopathic western-controlled dictators is a deliberate act.
how long before being critical of the Fed gets a similar classification?
would it be paranoid to think that, in the words of the US attorney, there has been "infiltration" of ZH?
Count on it.
Two thoughts... One.. If attempted obfuscation in regards to the devaluation of fiat via budget deficits and QE leads to war as has been surmised by Celente, Sprott, Dalio and others then perhaps Eurpopean currency devalution = War with Libya. Interesting thatit is the French leading the way and Germany abstained from the vote.
TTwo... Humerous twist??? There is no radiation danger near fukshima... It is all staged so John Gault has a place to camp out? :-) <-- Not true but intersting concept???
This is a PIIG War.
Europe is in a very bad spot if the Ghaddafi drama is not resolved and oil resumes. France and Germany will have to bail Portugal, italy and Spain sooner, rather than later, if the lack of oil hamstrings the PIIGS.
USA only gets 5% from Muammar.
And how much from Europe as a trading partner?
Dont look as the US wants a mano a mano with China... They know they would lose.
I'm looking around the world right now, and damn, don't we have a sorry-ass bunch of maggots running every country. Geez, is this the best the human species can come up with? Obama? Sarkozy? Gadhafi? Berlusconi? NetanYahoo! ? Kan? Putin? When Charlie Sheen starts to look good in comparison, I know humanity has hit a new leadership low.
8/10
These are the leaders the US world order fathers. To each order, the suitable leaders who go with it.
I say get it over quick and let the French take all the credit. They haven't had a victory in over 195 years.
Yeah, looks like they are really "protecting civilians" there with those fighter jets crashing into the city.....
Disregard....
Weird. Replied to another post and this showed up here.....

There is one problem in the World, people became disconnected each with other and International govrnment and FED fighting us country buy country making us slaves of their wishfull thinking mashines, people, unite on our blog and vote for FED existence, tell it yur friend or co-worker,it looks like every one hate FED,but in practice makes nothing to stop it from doing chaos in the world, take 5seconds and tell to the friend:

Ultimately, destroying the whole country will be a net positive for Libya's GDP.

Natgas tanks Monday
this thing confuses me. First i thought it was a UN operation, now it seems to be scrum, mostly NATO countries. The US did nothing, the UN approved the no-fly zone, then the US President decided to take action. (Hey look at me) but he is going to defy the UN if they want to put boots on the ground? Or NATO? Logically it makes sense, Republicans wanted a no-fly zone, Democrats did not. Arab League despots cast the deciding vote. Finally i know we are going to help civilians, but are you still a civilian if you are driving a rocket launcher? And if some of these (armed) civilians are part of the Muslim caliphate, when do we seperate the wheat from the chaff, are our drones really that smart? Once we achieve some sort of stalemate, (think Iran Iraq, 1980) who is going to finish the job? I understand every President can start one war of his own, and Obama has none, and this one doesn't really count. So what war will he get to start?
I must admit that I worked for several branches of the UN in the past and I am ashamed of having worked there. The whole fiasco of an organisation makes me vomit. It's a joke. If anyone tells you that they work for te UN, please say: "oh, I'm sorry". The UN is fucking JOKE. A lie bigger than the Council on Foreign Relations and the National Endowment for Democracy.
@the grateful un...
"Finally i know we are going to help civilians"
WTF? do you really think this is about helping civilians? Please wake up.
You've been watching too much CNN. I'm sure you read TIME and Newsweek, Readers Digest and National Geographic Magazine (read propaganda channels).
I propose a toast... To the 21st Century!
<clink>
If this all keeps up for long, we're talking about a different kind of toast.
White bread, dry...like Elwood Blues.
Prost!
It is traditional to start a new century with a world war. How else would we know who the boss is?
A few things I don't get about all this.
1. If the precedent for US military action is that Gadhafi is killing his own people (as Obama is saying), then what about Bahrain, Yemen, etc?
2. When the WMD were never found in Iraq, Bush used the same rationale about Hussein -- that he was murdering his own people. Yet, Democrats were still outraged. And I'm not trying to be political as both parties are frauds, but where is the outrage now?
Hussein gassed the Kurds, bad Hussein, bad. At the conclusion of the Iraq war, George Bush declared the Kurds the enemy. Now the American people may be stupid, but they are never outraged.
It is a MiG-23. Libyan. 1 each.
I think there was one own goal.
Disreagrd. This is the second time I reply and post is placed elsewhere.....
Honestly I don't understand. Libya never refused to take dollars for oil like Sadam. He was snuffing out the protesters and rebels and soon would have had complete control again and the oil for paper would flow like it always did. Why are we fucking with this situation? You can't tell me they actually give a shit about Africans being killed by one their dictators. if the world cared about things like this it would be the first time in human history. They must just have a hard for a quick war and had a quick window of distraction with the nuclear meltdown in Japan.
Why do you stop kids from fighting near the fine china?
Dear Dr Gonzo, I have it good authority, (Santa Sinclair), that this is an orchestrated rout of the middle east....(now it's me), to usher in a camel riding future all round, including the west.
Are the French still waving their white flag of courage as they march backwards into battle?
I'm calling bullshit on that statement. That image was first shown when there were reports of a jet being shot down by the rebels, before the UN sent anyone over there.
The rebels confirmed early today that that was a plane flown by them (taken from the Libyan Air force) that was shot down by anti-aircraft....at least that is what CNN reported.
It is so delicious. Al-quaida blows up 2 buildings in New York, and within less than a decade, the West is aiding them in their project to overthrow dictators previously supported by the West.
The Tibetans should attack New York, maybe they would get some street cred.
What I have been wondering all along is this: Who is funding the rebels? Gadaffi would surely have defeated this "uprising" by next week, because he has plenty of money to fund operations. War is not cheap, never has been. I guess we are now begining to get a better picture of where the money to fund all of these "democracy uprisings", which have suddenly and spontanously broken out all over the ME. I never have bought the script feed to us. This has been a multi-international intelligence agencies operation from the begining. This has probobly been in the works for sometime now. All they had to do was get it started, after that, it would take on a life of it's own.
Iran is funding the rebels. Obama gave them the go ahead by demonstrating the weakness of continual intellectual menstruation.
The "rebels" are TPTB's favourite offensive weapon to destabilise any regime: imported islamic fundamentalists.
The leaders are shipped in, financed and run by MI-6 and the CIA (hence Daffy correctly calling them "Al Qaeda") ... the followers are the usual local crowds that will join any protest once it has started. Therefore, neither "human rights" nor "democracy" will have any showing in the outcome!
And the narrative goes on.
let the ecb fukkers print the fiatscos for this bullshit.
It no longer matters who prints the worthless linen ... none of the printing countries have a snowflake's chance in hell of paying back even a fraction of what has been printed to date, let alone what else they will print in future.
Stable currencies and repayable national debts are sooooo 19th Century!
Here's a short list of the countries where the leaders have killed their own protesting citizens in the last four years, on a scale and with a style sufficient enough to get video on CNN:
Libya, Egypt, Tunisia, Bahrain, Yemen, Saudi Arabia, Zimbabwe, Burma, China, Thailand
In response:
The US seized or blocked leaders' assets in Libya, Burma, and (maybe) Egypt.
The US imposed economic sanctions against Burma and Libya.
The US committed military assets and personnel to Libya.
The US took billions in aid from, and sent the President to attend the Opening Ceremonies of the Olympics in China.
I wonder if SAIS has an Executive Course in Foreign Policy so that I might begin to understand.

baby_BLYTHE,
I must correct you. The USA's number one export is the US Dollar and other negotiable debt instruments, weapons comes in second. When the American people rise up, they'll be shot at with US made weapons, just like it's happening in Manama today.

"we cannot stand idly by when there are innocent civilians at risk"
Obama
Translation: We cannot stand idly by when the Brits and the French are thirsty for this oil too, so we're gonna join them, take a big slice out of this Libyan sweet crude pizza pie, and market our weapons at the same time... almost forgot, we're going to destabilise the Middle East a bit more and threaten Algeria, Sudan, Southern Sudan, Chad, Egypt and keep the Chinese out o Africa. Yes, we can!
All of this talk about the cost of the tomahawks makes me think these were part of a past defense budget. It's not like we just ordered 112 in this year's budget to drop of Lybya. Are these some old clunkers that we had to use before they expired and if so at what cost were they used?
"We had always been at war with Eurasia."
Wow @ his live speech.

He just went there. (and back again). He's even calling for revolution. He even called Obama the devil.

Q replied "I will send my followers to eat all those french fries in Corsica. They will take the Champs Elysees by storm".The crowd chanted " We will die for our great Guide". The camels snorted "Nobody knows how to dig his heels into our hides like the great Q, our desert fox". The women swooned as they whispered "It is an honor to be by his side...Oh, boogie nights". They formed a human shield around his camp. One woman triumphantly shouted "Even Hillary Clinton can't get him now, like RR tried. We will defend him with our lives". One reporter was heard telling the other..."Q and Hillary would be quite a honey-moon match for a night at the Oasis in Vegas". They chased the two reporters from Tripoli with flying shoes for having suggested that Q would bunga-bunga with Hillary. "He is no Bill Clinton" they shouted at the fleeing reporters. "She is no Monica Lewinski" muttered the reporters as they ran to save their pants from being ripped off. It made the twitter around the world. Now every american female wants to go to Tripoli for a night with Q-camel. To show him what true "Monica style" US generosity has to offer the world.

Video journalist Adrian Brown wanders through malls of vacant shops, and roads lined with empty apartment buildings… 64 million apartments are said to be empty across the country and one of the few shop owners says he once didn't sell anything for four or five days.
