I understand and generally agree with the idea of non-violance.
But you know, one can't underestmate the potential for behavioral correction brought on by a broken nose and a few broken teeth. Better governments live in fear of citizens versus citizens living in fear of government.

But yet another time, you show i) an embarassing, outlandish, ignorance of basic matters outside the borders of the United States in the worst tradition of your country (e.g. you seem to have discovered the existence of Dubai 3 weeks ago)ii) an alarming tendency for dangerous and misleading simplification of international events
Maybe getting some Europeans to write for you would avoid you this type of gaffes. Certainly, most of them would not have the revolting arrogance to post with glee and with your "i told you so tone" the news that the US president has been punched in the face. While I personally find that in itself sickening and irresponsible - a tone unworthy of any publication that wants itself to be considered relevant - the real reason why your post is (quite frankly) idiotic, is that the man who hit Berlusconi suffers from mental illness and has been under treatment for 20 years. Such a person is representative of nothing if not a sad and unfortunate human condition and your attempt to portray this as the beginning of some widespread social instability or the end for Italy or Europe is nothing if not proposterous.

Ignorant americans and other foreigners (by no means all of the population...)who know next to NOTHING about the Italian situation, should stop rambling about this stuff with their whacky conspiracy theories. keep them for another occasion.
FYI Italy has had none of the financial sector unbalances of caused by US and co. style housing bubbles and you can accuse Berlusconi of everything except favouring the "aristocratic banker class" (whatever that means), since he is not really in favour of free market economics. Conversely, his government has kept the country finances afloat for now - avoiding populist spending sprees that others have followed. For that, he would deserve anything but praise - if you were into serious analysis instead of tabloid - style populism that is.
And also, ZH shows itself to be the truly anti-democratic one, repeadtedly refusing to publish comments that go against the populist mindset of many people of this website (second time i try to write this).
I believe "Berlusconi Beatdown" is already a meme...
