January 9th Is "National Citizens Day" … A Day to Show That WE Get to Decide Which Politicians Are Fired or Elected and Which Companies Fail or Succeed

George Washington's picture

In response to an article I wrote, Carol says:

We
need is someone to set the agenda, to Name a Day for the country's
disenfranchised to show up in Washington. And I believe we're all
disenfranchised at the moment.

Alright, unless somebody has a better idea ...

I'm declaring January 9th National Citizens Day.

National Citizens Day will be a day to:

(1) Honor and celebrate the power of the American Citizen

(2) The fact that the American Citizens own the country, the government, and all its employees, who serve at their will

and

(3)
The fact that the American consumer - who drives 70% of the American
economy - dictates which companies succeed and which fail with his or
her purchasing decisions

Here are traditional and appropriate ways to celebrate National Citizens Day:

May you have a happy and empowering National Citizens Day. It's the American thing to do.

roughly 1.75 million were on the mall in Washington on September 12th. Govt controlled media blacked it out.

If you didn't know that, Google is your problem.

Interesting....of 300 million in the US, 70 percent wouldn't protest because they "derive a benefit." 25 percent either support the govt. or are Christian Zionists who care more about Israel and are waiting for the rapture. Of the rest, 2 percent are either elitists or directly work for them (mostly in the FedGov). that leaves 3 percent...9 million people!

If 9 million people protested....

The American Citizen...right! 70 percent of you are on some kind of govt. benefit. Of the remaining 30 percent, 25 percent of you are either neocon war lovers or Christian Zionists who put Israel first. Of the remaining 5 percent, 2 percent are elitists or their lackeys. that leaves the 3 percent who love this country enough to actually do something! Let's see: 3 percent of 300 million is 9 million!

Now, if 9 million people showed up in Washington DC at any one time to protest...

Haha! 3%.

But seriously if that many people showed up it would a really cool sight...to see all the newest military tech used to suppress the masses. Just like the Pitt G20 - all the ring leaders will be harnessed at best - never heard from again at worst. Romantic heroism is for Emperor penguins. We've got plenty of testosterone - but it'll be co-opted before it gains any strength. By the time we have that many angry people that know what the hell is going on they won't be able to afford the plane ticket to get there - it's usually the unemployed/marginalized that are angry enough to actually show up!

Not even Ron Paul can get those numbers - and I've never SEEN anybody make that much sense, all the time! If there is such thing as reincarnation it's ole Thomas Jefferson.

Don't try to stop the train wreck - behold it's majestic glory of twisting steel and mangling bodies - the problem is we are all sitting too close to the tracks.

Use it or lose it.  The first step in using it is affirming that that is what we are trying to re-claim.

Perhaps a good old 4th of July on The Mall might work out better.  That is if our nation and its financial system can hold out that long.

There will be nothing left of our Republic by July 4.

GW - Great idea.  My only beef is that a mid winter meet in DC would be especially brutal for the disabled, the elderly and for parents with kids in school.  Perhaps a good old 4th of July on The Mall might work out better.  That is if our nation and its financial system can hold out that long.  We must break the cycle of codependency with the 1,000 pound persons if we are to have any hope.  Perhaps between now and the NCD event more might be accomplished to increase public awareness of the event and why it is so important.  In that effort I remain fully committed and engaged.

They'll just call us a bunch of tea-baggers and racists.

The "Tea Bag" movement would have been better served if it did not accept contributions, including public relations, legal and other forms of support from partisan groups. A movement that is from the ground up, with a donor base of individuals only and non partisan will have much greater impact and appeal.

...but it's cold in Washington on January 9. Besides, I think there's a final cut on my favorite reality show that night and I'll still be nursing a hangover from New Year's Eve. Maybe next year.

What can I do in conjunction with your efforts to make this event as best as it can be?

It's not much, but immediately I will e-mail this date to everyone on my e-mail list, stranger, enemy or frenemy.

Anything else I can think of,to make it 'go viral'? If you have specific, strategic tactics please advise.

Will also e-mail this to our local paper, which is the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, and the Tribune.

"We used to read pornography. Now it was the Horchow Collection. I had it all. Even the glass dishes with tiny bubbles and imperfections, proof they were crafted by the honest, simple, hard-working indigenous peoples of wherever."

Make 'em out of shredded U$D! But where can we get 'em made? We can't decide who is indigenous around this joint lately.

Oh, let's get a hold of Martha Stewart.

How about we use those sweaters, get some well endowed government employees and use some water to have a "transparency contest"?

See now I'm interested.
