Jobless Claims Fall From Another Upwardly Revised Number

Tyler Durden's picture

Jobless claims "fell" to 452k with the story as usual being in the revision. Last week's 462K number which was originally expected to be 445K is now revised to 475K! But of course it is so much more palatable to get the BLS lie piecemeal instead of in one place. We are now on 25 out of 26 sequential upward revisions, and up to just under 250k Year to Date on initial claims. With this week's number beating expectations of 455k, only means the revised miss will be announced next week, when this week's number is revised to north of the expectation. The same identical story in continuing claims: the print was 4,441K, a deterioration from last week's 4,399K which again was revised to 4,450K (revision 36 out of 37). Lastly, those falling of regular rolls once again jumped, and for the week ended October 2, those on Extended Benefits and EUCs rose by 280K. Since the news confirms the US economy continues to lose workers, this will do nothing for the market's expectations of trillions in free liquidity to be announced in two weeks by the Fed. Then again, none of this matters - as Jim Iurio said earlier: "We are all currency traders."

And here is the latest upward revision chart that looks behind the headlines of the Department of Truth:

Nice, the 7 week average of adjustments is 5, so 13 is 2.6 times the average.

That this nonsense continues week after week is all the proof you need to prove the complicity of the Fed/PD/media alliance. Here at the end of the Keynesian-Ponzi system, the desperate attempts of TPTB to maintain control will only get more audacious in the days to come.

Trust no one but yourself and your own intuitions. Warn your friends. Protect your family.

The end of the Great Keynesian Experiment is upon us. Prepare accordingly.

Be glad they are still doing revisions.  Soon there may be no revisions, only a number some BLS manager pulls out of his ass.  Fraud and lies will become the norm not the exception.

The GDP number for this quarter should be near zero, but we will see something near 2.0% growth beating all expectations.  Thirty days later it will be revised down to 1.2%, then three months later .5% and a year later -.25 for 3Q 2010.  This is how the "game" is played.  Look at the "track record" for GDP "estimates" vs. revised numbers.  The whole system of government statistics is a scam designed to protect the bubble economy.

Any ideas on how many "99ers" have completely exhausted their 99 weeks ? Wondering if that data is available ?

Meanwhile "We are all currency traders." is soon going to be true for American housewives and house husbands kind of like Japan as the Japanese currency trade falls off a cliff !! Expect currency trading desks to take major hits in Japan if the Yen keeps soaring like it is the last few months !! Mrs Watanabe has just been deprived of a very lucrative source of additional income !!

This was a major revision, and one can see that on the charts.  This is getting completely blatant to the point that even the MSM should be questioning what is coming out of the Big Lying Shitheads.  This is equal to going full retard by shooting yourself in the head, and hoping you survive.

I am guessing that next weeks, they will revise this weeks number upwards by about 13,000 again.

OT - sort of.  "Say it like it is"

WASHINGTON (AFP) – A top US public radio network has sacked a senior news analyst after he made disparaging remarks about Muslims on television.

National Public Radio (NPR) said it notified Juan Williams late Wednesday that it was terminating his contract as a senior news analyst for NPR News.

Williams was fired just two days after he made a Fox News Channel appearance during which he agreed with a television host that the United States was facing a "Muslim dilemma."

On his show "The O'Reilly Factor," host Bill O'Reilly said: "The cold truth is that in the world today, jihad, aided and abetted by some Muslim nations, is the biggest threat on the planet."

Williams, who is also a political analyst for Fox News, said he concurred with O'Reilly, adding: "I think, look, political correctness can lead to some kind of paralysis where you don't address reality."

The analyst said he felt nervous when boarding planes with Muslims on board.

"I mean, look, Bill, I'm not a bigot. You know the kind of books I've written about the civil rights movement in this country," Williams said.

"But when I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous."

NPR said in a statement that Williams's remarks were "inconsistent with our editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR."

It thanked Williams for his many years of service as a "valuable contributor" to NPR.

No doubt this is a fine line, and we have been here before. My reaction was more to the point that anything "Muslim" it seems, is off limits on so many levels. We are forcing the conversation here (hopefully rational).  Wrong thread - right topic.

His racism is definitely showing.

Try these sets change Gangster garb to Fashionable garb and Black to Queer. Or stick with Gangster garb and change Black to Nigger. Or change Gangster Garb to Dirty garb and Black to Poor (or homeless).

Williams fucking knows better.

But the reality is first US Blacks despise other races whether they are Hispanic or Middle Eastern or even Asian.

Second Williams is one of the elitists passing judgement from his lofty view.

Third Williams makes his living using language, he knew fucking well what type of Xenphobic statement he made. He catered to Bills audience.

Juan is merely another Uncle Tom shucking and jiving fo Whitey so's he can keep his privileged status.

This is one really pisses me off.

I like Juan Williams. Though he and I disagree politically on almost every issue, he is a fair and honest liberal. He's always able to debate and discuss without degenerating into hyperbole and name-calling.

Now, he candidly speaks his mind on this issue, voicing an emotional reaction that probably 75% of Americans have had at some point since 9/11/01, and because of his honesty and forthrightness, he is fired from NPR. This is a sad day for free speech in this country. The epidemic of dishonesty and parsed words in media will now only get worse.

Oh...and I'm sure this is just a coincidence...George Soros also announced yesterday that he was making a large grant to NPR to fund "investigative journalism". Again, I'm sure the timing of the grant and Mr. Williams' termination are purely coincidental.

WILLIAMS FIRING, SOROS DONATION SPARK NEW CALLS TO END NPR TAXPAYER SUBSIDIES

By Chris Moody - The Daily Caller | Published: 11:25 AM 10/21/2010 | Updated: 12:12 PM 10/21/2010

The firing of National Public Radio news analyst Juan Williams for comments made about Muslims, combined with leftwing billionaire George Soros’ recent $1.8 million donation to the organization, have reignited calls to end NPR’s taxpayer subsidies.

In June, Colorado Republican Rep. Doug Lamborn introduced legislation that would end government funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (the entity through which subsidies to NPR flow) after 2012. The bill’s passage did not stand a chance in the Democratic-controlled Congress, but the measure could gain momentum in a Republican-led House next year.

Lamborn told The Daily Caller that there is no reason taxpayers should continue to subsidize an already-flush media company.

“This is an organization that can stand on its own. Why in the world, in the era of trillion dollar deficits, should the taxpayer have to subsidize it? It doesn’t make sense,” Lamborn said. “Under Nancy Pelosi, the Democrats just throw money at anything that’s moving. But if we have the honor of retaking Congress, we’re going to have to do things differently. I would love to defund NPR completely. Not because I don’t like it – actually there are things on NPR I do like – but because it can stand on its own.”

NPR receives grants from the quasi-governmental Corporation for Public Broadcasting and dues from local member stations, which are largely government -funded. In an environment in which traditional news media outlets are heavily cutting back and even closing down, public radio is enjoying tremendous growth and adding new reporters to member stations across the country. Open Society Foundations, a Soros-funded organization that donates to liberal causes, announced this week an initiative to fund more than a hundred new NPR reporters.

Lamborn’s bill is currently stranded in committee and almost certain to be ignored for the duration of this congress. But the firing of Williams could revive it. NPR announced it was dropping Williams late Wednesday for comments made earlier this week on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor,” in which he said he feels “nervous” when he sees people in Muslim garb boarding an airplane with him.

“[W]hen I get on the plane, I got to tell you, if I see people who are in Muslim garb and I think, you know, they are identifying themselves first and foremost as Muslims, I get worried. I get nervous,” Williams said, adding that he wants people to move beyond their prejudices so Americans no longer have to feel nervous when they see Muslims in airports.

NPR released a statement saying that Williams’ remarks were “inconsistent” with the organization’s “editorial standards and practices, and undermined his credibility as a news analyst with NPR.”

Williams’ firing comes as little surprise to longtime media observers. It was reported last year that NPR had asked Williams to stop mentioning his public radio affiliation when he appeared on Fox News, and that NPR officials had pressured Mara Liasson, a top political correspondent who appears regularly on Fox News, to stop appearing on the network all together.

A number of media personalities have condemned NPR for firing Williams, saying that his comments were deliberately taken out of context.

“NPR has shown the world that the organization is close-minded and narrow-visioned, having all but abandoned the original charter to be an unbiased public service,” said Lurita Doan, a commentator for Federal News Radio. “Consider me one of the first to now demand that no more federal money (currently about 6 percent of their budget comes from taxpayers) be used to support NPR.”

In a discussion about Williams’ firing on MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” liberal co-host Mika Brzezinski chimed in, and expressed fear that anyone could be fired for having “a peaceful conversation” about an issue.

I saw that so-called debate as well.  What I found most interesting is how the Arabs are portrayed as religious fanatics defending their faith.  I however, view it as a people defending the pillaging of their lands and culture.

If America were to be occupied and have its resources stolen by foreign entities, you would see a cry of defense that would ultimately include Christian values and teachings.

According to the FHFA, the GSE's have drawn (from the taxpayer) $148B to date. Over the next 2 years, at the high end, they will only need another $220B.

Alas, what is another $220B in funny money?

Hey y'all.  Show some love to Conrad_Murray if you see him around.  He has dropped a couple playlists that are really quite solid.  I hope there are another couple of folks out there who have been collecting tracks to share with the crew here.

Its entirely unrelated but Marla spun for the first time in a long time on Saturday.  Good vibrations float across the universe and touch us even if we don't notice it at first, so do your part to keep the bumpin bumpin!

I wonder why the Government hasn't figuered out that they should do what wall street does......lower the expectatations so that earnings always look good. The Gov should overestimate jobless claims so they can be revised downward everyweek to make claims look good.

You're about a week premature in announcing that initial claims are down, aren't you?

But here is how the "news" was trumpeted on Bloomberg...

Initial Unemployment Claims in U.S. Declined 23,000 Last Week to 452,000

Which is only slightly better than saying

Initial Unemployment Claims in U.S. Declined 10,000 from the Understated Number We Gave You Last Week but Is Really 23,000 better than What We Now Say is the Reality Because We Have an Agenda to Push

They will ramp this fake market all the way to election day, then the ponzi scam collapses on the crooks and they will try to kill each other getting out of the algo nightmare that is the fx and stock markets. Both of these markets are in complete disarray. I can't wait to watch these crooks begin whining on Cartoon Network Business Channel begging for more Benny Bucks when the algo's take them to the cleaners again.

Those charts can't be right as unemployment reported by BLS went from 10.5% to 9% over the period.

Anglo Irish Bank Corp. offered to exchange 1.6 billion euros ($2.2 billion) of subordinated debt at a discount, paying in new bonds at a rate of 20 cents on the euro as the nationalized lender seeks to generate capital.

Anglo Irish will offer bondholders that don’t take up the exchange 1 cent per 1,000-euro face amount to redeem their floating-rate notes due 2014, 2016 and 2017, the Dublin-based lender said in a statement today.
