Jobs Bill? The Government Passed a Jobs Bill Years Ago ... Just Not for US

George Washington's picture

A lot of proud American citizens the serfs have complained that the government hasn't passed a meaningful jobs bill.

Sure, unemployment is brutal for most Americans ... and the government is doing everything wrong in terms of reducing unemployment.

But that's a small price to pay ... corporate profits are soaring thanks to record unemployment.

But
more importantly, the truth is that government LONG AGO passed a full
employment act ... but it only applies if you are a big cheese at a too
big to fail bank (see this and this), a giant energy producer (here and here) or a big defense contractor (see this and this).

So stop whining, we've already got a jobs bill ... it's just not for you and me. It's only for the people who count.

And
for the crybabies who think that President Obama is not representing
the wishes of his constituency, the people who put him into office ...
you're wrong.

He is definitly smart ,no question about that, and he was born in US as if that matters anyway at this point.  Problem is he plays DC games and does not stand up for principles he ran on. Health care cave in on competetive bidding, deficit compromises, still waging losing wars with another looming, no financial fraud indictments, no jobs since he cowtowes to big biz that outsources en mass, and same old tax loopholes for wealthy, etc, etc. In any case seems he will be re-elected because theres no real alternative platform catching  imagination of voter that real change through leadership is possible. We now have economic as well as political stalemate and that aint good for America

The absolute truth is this president said he would bring those jobs off shored back to the US. Again, a promise broken. Anyone who voted for this man has to seriously question why he can't keep even the easiest of promises. Even worse the president was determined to focus all of his energy and political capital on health care when we needed a very serious job's program. My question. How many of you still consider this man to be a smart president?

Once again George is correct but tardy. These penetrating insights would have been prescient 10 years ago, right on the money 3 years ago.

Here's a hot insight for your next editorial. Obama has not kept his promises. Also, computers are going to be a big influence on everyday life once they get the size and cost down. Someday computers will be as common as television sets.

Good article. I have been thinking about these issues as well. It looks like the companies keep only top management in the US and the rest of jobs are outsorced. Basically they have found cheaper serfs outside US but as for themselves they want to live here so that they have political stability and an unpredictable government (Chinese, Russian, etc) would not take away all their money. What they miscalculate is that people here also will not be able to tolerate unlimited amounts of misery.

Nothing comes for free. Those companies are finding that the Chinese and Indian workers are stealing all their patents, designs, and trade secrets and there's nothing that can be done about it. What goes around comes around.

The jobs bill is designed to stimulate demand in the US through deficit spending so that Corporations can maximize profits by importing the products from the lowest cost producing labor countries and paying no Federal income taxes on the hedged profits. Best example is GE whose profits are up 77% but pays no taxes. These job bills are designed sole to enrich the wealthest families in the world leaving debt for the masses. And there is nothing anyone can do about it.

College loans nearly a $Trillion surpassing creditcards loans outstanding. Will need a LOT more jobs to have loans repaid---its the next financial bubble.  So the question is why are we not creating jobs?  Answer is the Global Economic Model with  massive job outsourcing at all levels does not permit job creation on a National policy level. To make matters worse political idiology [free enterprise, competition, the Americn way etc.]  puts us in denial and we keep increasing deficits, arificially keep interest rates low in belief somehow magical growth will occur.  Of coarse growth does occur----Overseas!  Keep it up poiticians, bankers and multinationals---soon you will not have a country, just con men and woman with unemployed children

And that $1 Trillion has purchased numerous serfs! I'm so glad I purchased my degree with Credit cards.......at least I was able to send that packing when the first shit-storm occurred. Hey ironically, it was a great move considering they won't hand my wife's 780 credit score free money like they use to!

Tired of the game. My new life goal is not to be a serf. You can take the career and shove it. I am beyond working like a slave for 55 hours a week with a weeks vacation. Huge car premium to sit in traffic......shoved it, got a rocket and ride the line. Slave to the home......no thanks. Once my condo's 15 year mortgage is over, I'm done with mortgages. Tequila and beach over the icrap. Bender with a fishing rod as opposed to big screen and x-box.

Not buying promises either anymore.  Volatile 401k's, pension, improbable social security, retirement......at what age? 75? If it requires me to work like a dog until then, PASS. As for the con men and women.......we are there already.

And those without degrees are pushed out of the market by those that have them.

So now you need a $100,000 in student loan debt degree, to qualify for a minimum wage job that has nothing to do with your education.

Not "double what we need" in all areas. Be more specific. You are over-generalizing.

60% of federal civil servants work for the Pentagon, Homeland Security, or the CIA.

I don't think the CIA has many employees. You must be thinking of the State Department. Alot of employees got lumped in with Homeland security, including border patrol and customs.

You need to be more specific. Include some figures instead of generalizing.

so if someone invents an even more efficient light bulb?

too bad its not micro flourecent light bulb,. it will be illegal.

oh unless you hand a fuck load of bribes to gov, then maybe your light bulb maybe made LAW.

instead of a 1 off law stating light bulbs must use so may watts to produce so much light.

and let real market forces  determin the best product.

These stupid fluorescent lamps contain mercury which is banned from almost everywhere except apparently our houses. Please see this http://www.jtbaker.com/msds/englishhtml/m1599.htm for what it can do to you - these are government data. For example, Health Rating: 4 - Extreme (Life). While in most cases the paranoia that general population has against chemicals is completely unwarranted, in this particular case it is fully justified. See also ths: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Minamata_disease. Wile mercury will escape the lamps only if they are broken, the chances of breaking them is actually reasonably large. P.S. I am a chemist and we avoid working with mercury whenever possible.

Hah another industry that's partially gone the wrong direction. I surprised my dentist (the liberal, good humored type) with scientific reports of the effect of fluoride (the kind they use in dentistry not the kind which goes in your watersupply, which is even worse) on the nervous system. There's only a handful of tests, but these are valid.

The problem is not that secrets are hidden, it's that the adverse effects on our species are accepted because of complacency.

One of the studies was by a dr. Mullenix. I haven't found a link to the actual publication ATM, though it's on the disk here, but here's a comprehensive presentation: http://www.oldthinkernews.com/?p=280

My mother, bless her soul, never fell for the fluoride pills or other shenannigans they tested on citizens. I guess I owe her even more thanks now.

Thank you for writing this, it just helped me to wake up that I (and perhaps we) have been as pathetic as those waiting for government hand outs. We all know that the governemnt doesnt create much if anything at all, so its long past time we Americans wake up and create jobs for ourselves. If we have business' that are failing then we must reinvent them, yes its simple, easy perhaps not, simple yes. Like the swishey logo company says "Just Do It". and where ever and when ever BUY AMERICAN, BOYCOTT Companies that outsource to foreign nations. ACT LOCALLY or Local wont exist much longer.

Then the annoited one (may his telepromter glow eternally), in a flash of Messianic wisdom, creates yet another less than useless govt agency (jobs task force) with the CEO of GE at its helm no less.

The only "jobs" Mr "hope and change" created in this manner I suspect are the useless beaurecrats in this task force whose official reports will never ever even hint at the source of rampant unemployment being outsourcing of American jobs by corporations like GE. That would be heresey of the highest order resulting in a loss of a cushy gubbmint job.

The "jobs bill" is for the ROW and not the middle class here in the US. Unfortunately, the policy enablers are granting off shore jobs in favor of Americans working. How does this work? By allowing easy access to our markets with this off shore work there is no requirement to hire US workers. Also, Obama whether he realizes or not enables this to occur by continuing the unemployment benefits for Americans. Pull the employment benefits and there will by riots and yes there will be the hope and change we thought we were going to get under this president.

One they didn't have to earn or even work for.

What was it, two pages double spaced and large font?

The real joke was that the entire debacle was initiated up front with the Bush presidency.  Oh, it was orchestrated alright.  To put it into context, think of a yard light that is motion activated.   One can evade it completely if they slow down and move slow enough.  Try it.

This scam of lying cheating fuck you in the ass bank bullshit complete with two wars was 8 years of  the making.  "No one saw it coming," except those of us that bring our own flashlight.

This entire scam was baited to trap and tear the USA into pieces.  Fewer rights, more debt gets the rich and corporate nice and wet.

You ain't seen anything yet.

By allowing easy access to our markets with this off shore work there is no requirement to hire US workers.

Then fix it so that such requirement not only exists, it requires that said employment be direct and include the unemployed that have had long terms of unemployment.

We have the people, just more than a few businesses are out of touch with the US.  If it takes force to get them to not be out of touch and resistant to hiring US workers, fine.  The businesses had every choice to do it voluntarily and consistently have not done so.
