Krugman And The Magazine Cover Hypocrisy

Tyler Durden's picture

Paul "We need a housing bubble" Krugman reaches new heights in objective, hypocrisy-free self-assessment. In his latest blog entry, the Nobel prize winner states the following:

Bernanke and the Cover Curse

So Time magazine has named Ben Bernanke Person of the Year. Be afraid, be very afraid.

The magazine cover curse is a well-known phenomenon: you should
always short the stock of a company whose CEO is the subject of a
glowing cover story in a major magazine.

Plus there’s the specific Time effect. Let’s not forget the 1985 joint portrait of Madonna and Cyndi Lauper, which concluded that Ms. Lauper was the one who’d remain a star.

And above all, let’s not forget this:

Mr. Krugman is indeed an expert on being afraid of hypocritical self-promotion. Since his face graced the cover of the Newsweek March 28 edition, his own personal stock has reacted just as the Nobelist predicted. Perhaps in addition to bailing out the newspaper for which Krugman writes, Carlos Slim can also provide some fiat support to the Keynesianite/Stimulusite.

The head cheerleader is exhibiting irrational negative exuberance. Since when does a "genius" read palms, tea leaves and magazine covers? Please, someone shoot me and put me out of my misery.

Sounds like that curse/challenge of personal growth under stress, man!  Speaking of which, when's the next installment of your series (on just that subject) coming out, CD?

Love your forum opus, but I'm a serious fan of your focused work.

LOL!  Krugman sure does pose formidible opposition to the Keynesian, court economists Larry Summers, TIM-ay Geitner & Ben Bernanke-NOT!  How can he oppose them when he works within the same economic paradigm?

Ah Krugman, does anybody listen to this guy?  I would rather take policy and economic advice from kids off the short bus.  Krugman only has one use, the Costanza Effect, any policy maker listening should do the opposite of what Krugman says and your guaranteed to prosper.

I already decided not to renew my subscriptions to Newsweek.

See this article from them:

Mr. Gross is so full of shit.  And that Elysian Hotel he mentions - TD please do an analysis on this property.  I bet it was conceived back in 2005/06 and will be underwater sometime next year if not already.  City Center also created a bunch of jobs - let's see how long they last!!!

Krugman has not figured out that just because you win a grammy it doesn't make you a great entertainer or even a good musical talent. It only means you won a grammy. Nothing more.

Krugman is a crackpot liberal who just happens to be an economist. Not an economist who happens to be a liberal.

I have learned over the past economics is purely an art form.

Paul 'Printing Press' Krugman - another economist with creepy facial hair. Volcker and Taylor are both clean shaven, so I'm thinking there's definitely a creepy hair/crappy economist correlation.

We are still talking about magazines as if they relevant or important.

Magazines are nostalgic relics of the tree media era.  The era where most of their copy was generated by typewriters and cameras that used film.

IMO, the only magazine cover worth remembering was the June 1985 National Geographic edition (the "Afghan girl with green eyes").

TIME is an artifact -- a news tabloid -- an adornment of health care waiting rooms and neglected public library racks.  Their impact is purely benign.  Ben won their popularity contest, but the real news story everyone is focused on is when will the next Tiger Woods mistress be revealed, and does she work in food service or not?

I like how Krugman defended his consultancy with Enron; ...He also stated that the advisory panel "had no function that I was aware of", and that he later interpreted his role as being "just another brick in the wall" Enron used to build an image...

Sorta like whatcha do now Paul?

ABSOLUTELY perfect !!

thank you, Mr. Krugman, sir, for underscoring you own effective knowledge of this issue, or lack thereof.

keynesian retardation aside ... way to NOT mention paul montgomery; how cute and how oh so very mandelbrotty.

good examples too.  left out any original thought, i wonder why.

oh, and to everyone who has failed to pick up as well: way to link TIME magazine to Madden video game covers. again, great original research / work: no one.

I won't be publishing for about a year n change; so if anyone wants to try and think outside the box in the interim ... go crazy.
