The LBMA's Fair Value Prevention Team Goes For A Fish And Chips Break...

Tyler Durden's picture

...And an explosion in gold ensues. Furthermore, the market is perfectly efficient and $20 surges in gold are perfectly expected and thoroughly predicted according to Random Walk theory. At least that will be the alleged first sentence in JPM's defense against the DOJ's silver price manipulation antitrust suit.

Yes, England-USA is on Saturday. You can tell the World Cup is starting by all the England Red-on-White flags-cum-mast the tabloid-reading lager-swilling white trash has tacked on to their vans and cars over here.

No doubt our beloved football-obsessed GS  Jim is flying a couple of flags on both sides of his Bentley.

We've got an English broker here that comes on the radio in the AM...they were talking about it this AM.

I've talked to him before, about gold and what made me get out the markets (FASB 157).  I send him emails from time to time about stuff I read on ZH and the like...but what struck me as odd was this AM, he was talking about computers making up 70% of the market (I've sent him many links over the past year or two about it) and this assclown only comments on it when the markets are down.  Claims he doesn't think a double dip is coming and the computers are the reason the stock market has been going down....it chaps my ass, too.

The DJ was a teacher of mine and a Ron Paul supporter so he naturally hates big gov't, but when these two start talking, it is like he loses focus and believes whatever the "broker/paper pusher" has to say because it "is what he does for a living."

I'm a contrary dreamer 'cuz I'd prefer the market handle this one with a glorious squeeze, rather than a legal flush that very well may substitute domination with legal controls. Though, it's really sad that JPM has mostly gotten out in time already when it comes to shorting silver. Ted Butler, as everyone has heard, says this last price drop and clean out looks like the last big move down in silver, analyzing the COT.

Do you think he's lost track of the ball under those shells by focusing on JPM? He does say that the COT analysis is just an analysis and does not include fundamentals which could influence the price more directly. But if we're talking about the obvious take downs before delivery, then, yes, if it happens again, Ted's weekly update becomes more and more obsolete.

They will soon need to increase the debt ceiling, to support the huge amounts of cash the PPT spends supporting the market.

Or perhaps they just print it. Either way, it should be good for Gold. The physical kind, at least.

The gold to Euro is stealing the show right now. Love it.

Btw, from one gold bug to another, "Gold is money and nothing else," is nonsensical. Gold only works as "money" because it's a natural resource and one of the best industrial metals. However, it's TOO good a resource to just use up in industry. So its use is savored. If gold actually had no uses except as inert rocks to move around, it would never survive as "money."

This is easier for most people to see when they look at silver, but for some reason even gold bugs don't understand gold.

Mon, 06/07/2010 - 13:58 | 400051 thesapein

Gold has a subjective value that approaches its objective value, like silver (and food (energy)).

Mon, 06/07/2010 - 16:04 | 400299 The_Euro_Sucks
The_Euro_Sucks's picture

Yeah me is serious sweety. Looking at the past millenia wont say anything about the future. Governments and banks wont allow their precious fiat to be taken away. The masses won't have it either. Actually me dont want it either. Otherwise the governenments / banks will go fractional on the stuff again and we'll be back in the same shit in no time.

What you prefer, pay tax with paper or gold :). Because gold never failed as money it will be promoted to true neutral wealth. I dump paper asap. My (physical) gold I sell only if I have truely nothing left to sell. The concept money will be changed. Means of payment and calculation it will keep. Story of value will be stripped from paper. You see it in China, India and many more countries. The West is starting to come about.

Even though The_Euro_Sucks the Euro design enables gold in this role (dollar/pound/yen cant). That is the only advantage it has. How long untill the LBMA blows up? You think the oil wealth of the middle east is really traded for paper? Ofc. not, they get paid in physical gold (at least SA) . Only a bit is paid in paper. Oil, gold and fiat are linked in strange ways. The Euro will deal in physical gold only and oil will be paid in it (see gulfstates developing a 100% gold currency for if the Euro does fail). A well that you must know all. Gold as money is the same as going back to sailing across the atlanctic instead of taking a plane. Evolution baby!

Evolution works both ways, you can become "stupider" if it is in fact advantageous. Think of how many people died simply trying to live as free men. Stupid people who bury their head in the sand while someone is raping them is not "evolution" in the sense that you are using it to imply some form of progression. Going back to a gold standard is simply going back to an honest form of money, that is evolution as well.

Mon, 06/07/2010 - 11:59 | 399733 Rusty_Shackleford

It would depend how hot it got and where the gold/silver was.  I remember an auction on ebay a year or two ago where someone's stash was in a fire and had melted into a big amorphous clump.  Even though it was the same silver he started with, you'd have to sell at a big discount for lack of provenance.

By the way, does NOBODY here get the reference in my post above?  Where the hell are all the kids that grew up in the 60's and 70's?

I haven't been on here terribly much lately, but given by the sheer number of "junked" posts I've been seeing on this thread alone, the whole community is getting tired of your act.  The verbal jabs at Velobabe and MsCreant are simply classless and have no place on this board.  Calling well-respected people "old hags" and then trying to arrange personal meetings in the hinterlands of Colorado is bordering on the creepy part of, well... creepy.

I would think the moderators here are about to agree.

Oh really? Holy crap I could of lost money too if I bought the Dow back in 2000, ten years and still a complete waste.

BJ you are so full of shit. I doubt you ever traded the VXX. Didn't see you making VXX calls a month ago, even though it was an awesome buy being sub 20 and we do exist in volatile markets. No you pretty much claim to make any awsome trade after the fact.

There are better returns, but do you see no risk in holding assets denominated in paper currency if hyperinflation hits with little to no warning?  And please don't dismiss the concern as unreasonable--people are still alive in Germany whose parents got wiped out in Weimar.

Jizzing...jizzing...I've never heard that word before.  So, I'll try to use it in a sentence:

Johnny Bravo = Master Bates. Johnny freely admitted this. A pathological disser of gold. One thing to hate the metal, quite another to show up with multiple identities on all gold threads to put it down.

I don't show up with multiple identities.  I have one identity, which is Johnny Bravo.  The MB account has not been used since I have used the JB account.

The other gold bashers are not me, despite the inability of some to understand that more than one person might disagree with them.

I may be an asshole, but I'm pathologically honest as well.

Fair enough sir, fair enough. Apologies. I mean that.

It does surprise me how quickly ya'll appear for any gold thread. Almost like it is a pet project for a number of folks to come out and do this.

I come here looking for the gold thread.  I see gold is up 20 bucks, and I know that there's going to be a thread about it.

As to the apology, thanks.  It really is the truth.  While you may disagree with me, I assure you I am not the other anti-gold posters.  I have been MB, and now Johnny Bravo.  That's all.

But yeah, I appreciate the fact that you are at least apologizing about that.  It's good to know that people can be civil!

Have a nice day, and good luck today and all that.

JPM's defense against the DOJ's silver price manipulation antitrust suit.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
That NY Post article has since been corrected.
Correction: Following the publication of this story, JPMorgan issued a statement: "There is no criminal or civil Department of Justice investigation of J.P. Morgan for its silver trading practices."
Read more: http://www.nypost.com/p/news/business/feds_probing_jpmorgan_trades_in_gZzMvWBqOJpB55M7Rh9vwM#ixzz0qBITxLYa
Perhaps just a tabloid journalism error. The email the original article was based upon does not appear to have a valid .gov address. Sad but true rumors tend to go around the earth more times than the Space Station before the truth can get its pants on.
JPM claims there is no DOJ investigation. Interesting. So either JPM is lying or the DOJ is back in their pockets. I can't think of a third option since we all already know JPM is guilty.
Furthermore, the market is perfectly efficient and $20 surges in gold are perfectly expected and thoroughly predicted according to Random Walk theory.
This is the reason I'm as short as a "green shoot." Since the financial crisis, I've come to realize that the MBA from one of America's leading business schools included a finance curriculum of lies and misconceptions. The "education" is only propaganda.
There's nothing left in America but bullshit, I swear.
Speaking of physical gold and silver.  I've been buying from APMEX and they seem to be a good place to buy from.  I like the way their prices update with the markets and how you can jump in online and lock in a price and the many different payment options.
Does anyone know of any companies that are even better?
Monex.com works the same way.  They list their constantly updated prices online.  Will take a personal check and will let you use their priority post acct.  Then they send you a check for any split second correction in your favour.  Their premiums on coins used to be competitive.  Worth researching. Delivery used to take days, lately a week or two for coins.
