LulzSec Hacker Group Dissolves Itself On Its 50 Day Birthday

Tyler Durden's picture

The infamous hacker group LulzSec, best known for hacking the website of an FBI affiliate, the Sony network, and even the CIA, has now officially shut down. Their final manifesto, which is reproduced below in its entirety, is summarized as follows: "For the past 50 days we've been
disrupting and exposing corporations, governments, often the general
population itself, and quite possibly everything in between, just
because we could. All to selflessly entertain others - vanity, fame,
recognition, all of these things are shadowed by our desire for that
which we all love. The raw, uninterrupted, chaotic thrill of
entertainment and anarchy. It's what we all crave, even the seemingly
lifeless politicians and emotionless, middle-aged self-titled failures...Again, behind the mask, behind the
insanity and mayhem, we truly believe in the AntiSec movement. We
believe in it so strongly that we brought it back, much to the dismay of
those looking for more anarchic lulz. We hope, wish, even beg, that the
movement manifests itself into a revolution that can continue on
without us. The support we've gathered for it in such a short space of
time is truly overwhelming, and not to mention humbling. Please don't
stop. Together, united, we can stomp down our common oppressors and
imbue ourselves with the power and freedom we deserve. We hope we had a
microscopic impact on someone, somewhere. Anywhere." Well, it was fun while it lasted. And so FedWire is safe again. So is, for the time being, the internet.

As part of its dissolution, LulzSec released the following torrent.

Friends around the globe,

We are Lulz Security, and this is our
final release, as today marks something meaningful to us. 50 days ago,
we set sail with our humble ship on an uneasy and brutal ocean: the
Internet. The hate machine, the love machine, the machine powered by
many machines. We are all part of it, helping it grow, and helping it
grow on us.

For the past 50 days we've been
disrupting and exposing corporations, governments, often the general
population itself, and quite possibly everything in between, just
because we could. All to selflessly entertain others - vanity, fame,
recognition, all of these things are shadowed by our desire for that
which we all love. The raw, uninterrupted, chaotic thrill of
entertainment and anarchy. It's what we all crave, even the seemingly
lifeless politicians and emotionless, middle-aged self-titled failures.
You are not failures. You have not blown away. You can get what you want
and you are worth having it, believe in yourself.

While we are responsible for everything
that The Lulz Boat is, we are not tied to this identity permanently.
Behind this jolly visage of rainbows and top hats, we are people. People
with a preference for music, a preference for food; we have varying
taste in clothes and television, we are just like you. Even Hitler and
Osama Bin Laden had these unique variations and style, and isn't that
interesting to know? The mediocre painter turned supervillain liked cats
more than we did.

Again, behind the mask, behind the
insanity and mayhem, we truly believe in the AntiSec movement. We
believe in it so strongly that we brought it back, much to the dismay of
those looking for more anarchic lulz.

So with those last thoughts, it's time
to say bon voyage. Our planned 50 day cruise has expired, and we must
now sail into the distance, leaving behind - we hope - inspiration,
fear, denial, happiness, approval, disapproval, mockery, embarrassment,
thoughtfulness, jealousy, hate, even love. If anything, we hope we had a
microscopic impact on someone, somewhere. Anywhere.

Thank you for sailing with us. The breeze is fresh and the sun is setting, so now we head for the horizon.

Let it flow...

Lulz Security - our crew of six wishes
you a happy 2011, and a shout-out to all of our battlefleet members and
supporters across the globe

There's been a few bits and peices that point at someone on the governmental side providing some type of support. I know people are saying they're script kiddies, but I really don't think so. More like B-team Anonymous wannabes that work for a paycheck.

That all this was going down as internet kill switch bills were making their way through congress is just a tad bit suspicious, as is the Bradley Manning set-up artist's name showing up on lulz domain registrations -- perhaps a joke, perhaps not, but 100% peculiar and suspicious.

Also, in the hacker community it had been reported sometime in the past week that Anon hacked and knew exactly who lulz was, but chose to not expose them. Perhaps they worked in a more subtle way (i.e. go away, or we will.)

You have to pay up now. Assange is now a hollywood star, but you can still be one of the lucky fanbois who get to spend a night with him:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290576762574

This is your chance at being one of eight people to dine with WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange and renowned Slovenian philosopher, Slavoj Žižek.

The lunch will be from 12 - 3pm on Saturday 2nd July at one of London's finest restaurants. The meal will be followed by a Frontline Club event (http://www.frontlineclub.com/events/2011/07/announcing-frontline-club-ex...) from 4pm - 6pm at The Troxy in East London where these two formidable forces will be discussing the impact of WikiLeaks on the world and what it means for the future.

Yeah, I just saw that AZ piece.  So, a hacker group that is supposedly on the side of good, yet they are against the US maintaining border security.  Their "goodby manifesto" is so rambling, you can't tell what direction their moral compass is pointing.  I think its the new 21st century style - have a set of random beliefs that you can get all smarmy annd self-righteous about, but without the need to present a rationally cohesive framework for your "dogma."  Their propaganda smells like the bullshit the commies used to spew out in the 80's.

Nevertheless, they are dangerous.

Were they really attacking Fedwire?  I wouldn't think the addresses of those servers would be widely known?  Seems like it would require some inside information.  It takes a certain level of knowledge to even know what that is.  Not something I'd expect from kiddies...

I'd guess either they're the real deal or agent provocateurs.

If my memory is correct all Fedwire terminals are connected on dedicated circuits and boxes.  Within any given bank, the front-end software (for back-office bank employees) would be distributed to internet/intranet connected workstations.

The funny thing about Fedwire and its European equivalent is that they really are just "messaging" systems, i.e. they don't actually move money, they just send a message from one bank to another bank instructing them to debit and credit a specific amount from specified ledgers.  What a customer "sees" when they "wire" money is a product of the process, but if you put the result and process side-by-side their connection is almost unrecognizable.  It provides a slightly different perspective on the nature of the "fiat ponzi"

So what arose spontaneously from the Net, returns to it. Like some kind of playful zero-point energy.

No one -- nor any thing -- are either more nor less "safe" than before 50 days ago. Nothing is changed.

And slowly the whole world is changed.

If you don't understand it, that's fine. Very few do understand. This is not monkey business and the monkey mind does not gain traction here. It is the Net talking to itself. Listen if you want, you will not be educated by anything you hear. But you might be amazed.

I can't remember and I am to lazy to google. I am aware of monkeys, without knowledge of one another, separately, in different locations, who started to use tools when they did not, before, in exactly the same manner. The tool in their case was to insert a straw into antmounds and withdraw them so that they could eat the ants off the straws.

Sometimes it is just time. And these monkeys saw.

So what is the point of "hacking". It causes disruption. Costs money.

Think of the billions of dollars that the world spends on internet security. It is wasted money.

Think of those billions spent on feeding the hungry, or stopping disease in third world countries.

But, NO, the 1st world wants to play idle games.

Is it not the same thing to blow up electrical lines and shut off the power to cities? Wouldn't that  be cool?

NOT!

There is no difference between sabotage of the public electrical grid, or sabotage of the subway system, or sabotage of the air traffic control system, and hacking data bases.

Hacking, for the sake of hacking is a waste of money and resources. Those that disrupt should be held accountable. If caught they should be jailed or stood against a wall and shot. They are part of the problem.

Oh they will implement some sort of tax. There is nothing useful that eventually government does not take over with the left-right hay makers of "Do it for the children" or "we'll make you do it, do you see the gun 'legally' pointed at your head?"

Look at numbers -> state lotteries. Casinos-> education funding, Agriculture->food stamps. Housing-> Mortgage interest deduction->property taxes.

There is also a serious danger in internet postings in that they often have sublime logic and clarity. Take the same people and put them in a tavern or community meeting and somebody ends up getting thier points invalidated, cause , um , you know 10 years ago he/she slept with somebodies spouse, got into a fender bender, or hired/fired somebody they shoudl not have. So that person can not be right, even if they are right. Thats why facebook had to be invented, by design it removes all anonymity that is nessecary for truy free (non-violent, non-hate) speech.

Does anybody really think Mark Zuckerberg and his band of 20 something "geniouses" really came up with something that AOL, yahoo, myspace, etc did not already? What they did was develop the system that would never let marla and tyler attend meetings anonymously. And that is why facebook is funded. We already had plenty of drunk girls wearing low cut tops and dudes linking to posters of thier favorite bands.

They didn't come up with it--there were a few companies doing it and they just ripped it off.

None of the companies you mentioned had a freekin' clue.  The companies that actually did the groundwork are all out of business now.

It's still humerous----as in misspelling humourous----all of this is madness, so why not laugh at ourselves a bit more for being part of the game?

Death is peaceful--------life is joy!

these people seem very juvenile, narcacistic, and sociopathic. i dont see anything of value created by their vandalism only disruption and destruction, none of which accomplished anything. then to release a goodbye "manifesto" as if anyone cares except them, its laughable.

They saw, they came, the conquored a lil' bit, and they left.

What's the big deal?

They didn't do any real damage, agreed.

If the gov did this to justify a kill switch, well, that sucks.

But a model has been put out there. An idea is planted. From this seed, what else is possible? The gov, if they did this, is pretty stupid. Resistance begats more resistance. I am buying Gold and Silver. I never did that before what I read on the internet. Resistance is everywhere, each according to her or his ability and means. My imagination is on fire. How about you?

wow. the opinions in the comments are.......wide and varied, so I'll just say that if you have a house or apartment, lock the door on your way to work or the grocery store as you leave, and then come home to find your place robbed because the lock on the door wasn't great - I guess you'll be buying a new higher grade lock for that door won't you? Maybe even put in a security system as a secondary, and then get a dog as a tertiary deterent so the bad guys think twice about braking into your home.....too bad Sony not only left the door unlocked but actually wide open with a door mat saying "Welcome - right this way!". Idiots! And for those that don't write checks but do online checking? you get what you deserve. Its the internet people. Get a clue. And a stamp for the envelope.

There is a lot of talk on ZH about this illusive "internet kill-switch". In the last 3 years the people in America have taken blow after blow and by now I estimate that at least 33% of Americans is in deep shit in some form or the other: living paycheck to paycheck, foodstamps, unemployment, debt, underwater mortgage and all other misery I forgot to mention. But despite all this wide spread misery the population has remained quite docile. I think there are a couple things that can turn the peace on a silver dollar in less then a day:

-SNAP debit cards not being charged at the end of the month

-gas prices going up more then $4 in one day

-hyperinflation

-forced gold confisquation

-forced arms confisquation

-shutdown of the internet without warning or explanation

Given the atmosphere of distrust and paranoia throughout America at the moment, a sudden break down of the internet is very high on the list of "shit that has to be prevented from happening whatever the costs".

The New York Times reports that the FBI knocked legit websites offline in its attempt to hunt down LulzSec and any affiliated hackers. According to the report, the FBI seized web servers during a data center raid conducted early Tuesday morning. Owned by Switzerland-based DigitalOne, the server seizure inadvertently took down websites owned by the New York-based Curbed Network, Instapaper and "tens" more. "After [the] FBI's unprofessional 'work,' we can not restart our own servers, that’s why our Web site is offline and support doesn’t work," said DigitalOne’s chief executive, Sergej Ostroumow in a statement to his customers. He thought that the problem was merely a technical glitch with one of his Reston, Virginia-based servers at first until he was informed by a local that it had been removed completely from the data center. "Our servers happened to be in with some naughty servers," he said. Ostroumow later added that the FBI agents probably took entire server racks because they mistakenly thought that "one enclosure equals to one server." Meanwhile, Operation AntiSec continues on as Anonymous and LulzSec wage war against the world's governments, banks and major corporations. On Tuesday the Brazilian branch of LulzSec reportedly took down the Brazilian government's website. Later on LulzSec hinted that it had also penetrated servers of several banks and government institutions. "Splendid old chap, yes, yes, quite. In other news, we're loading leak bay #1 with stolen goods. #AntiSec," the group bragged on Twitter. As reported earlier, a vigilante band of hackers known as the Web Ninjas revealed its mission to expose the members of LulzSec and see that they were behind bars. They reportedly succeeded in retrieving the hacker handles of LulzSec members, including lesser members like "neuron" and "Redacted," and also critical members such as "Topiary" and "Sabu." LulzSec retaliated by "doxing" (or rooting out) the very person who leaked the information to the Web Ninjas. "This is Marshal Webb, also known as "[redacted]" in the "#pure-elite" IRC logs you no doubt have enjoyed," the group wrote to the FBI. "He was involved in the hacking of the game "Dues Ex" (sic) and was/is involved in countless other cybercrimes. Also, he tried to snitch on us. Therefore we just did your job for you with great ease. This moron is trying to flee the country in order to avoid serious punishment. Hunt him down... " Hacking group TeamPoison has also claimed LulzSec blood by acquiring the names, addresses and pictures of the LulzSec team. "No matter how many bots you gather, no matter how much people you lie to, no matter how much pre-made tools you use, you will _NEVER_ represent the real hacking scene, we warned you, we told you we do not make empty threats, we gave u 48hrs to secure your ircs yet u failed to do so." Getting a headache from all this hacking talk? You're not alone. Epic Games' Cliff Bleszinski said that the hack on Sony's PlayStation Network was a bad experience for the entire gaming industry. "It’s just a shame," he admitted. "It cost [developers] an untold amount of money; I know developers who couldn’t put their betas out there because of it. I mean, it was a major problem. So it’s pretty scary to be a game developer, especially when you talk about there being a connected future."

If retards like Sergej Ostroumow didn't have redundancy, the FBI didn't cause their outage, just accelerated it.

This was such an easily recognizable psy-op that it was a f'g joke.  Laying the groundwork for something to point to as the basis for more stringent laws governing the internet for when the sh*t really hits the fan down the road.  People in this country better WTFU while they still have some civil liberties left.

Apparently some are speculating that:

* Lulzsec splintered into two groups

* a third group "A-Team" spilled the beans about Lulszec members at http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=iVujX4TR

* One of the members of lulzsec (??) was raided by the FBI and "talked to them for 5 hours" and narced out a colleague

As my friend said, the Jersey Shore of hackers...
