LulzSec Hacker Group Dissolves Itself On Its 50 Day Birthday

Tyler Durden's picture
The infamous hacker group LulzSec, best known for hacking the website of an FBI affiliate, the Sony network, and even the CIA, has now officially shut down. Their final manifesto, which is reproduced below in its entirety, is summarized as follows: "For the past 50 days we've been
disrupting and exposing corporations, governments, often the general
population itself, and quite possibly everything in between, just
because we could. All to selflessly entertain others - vanity, fame,
recognition, all of these things are shadowed by our desire for that
which we all love. The raw, uninterrupted, chaotic thrill of
entertainment and anarchy. It's what we all crave, even the seemingly
lifeless politicians and emotionless, middle-aged self-titled failures...Again, behind the mask, behind the
insanity and mayhem, we truly believe in the AntiSec movement. We
believe in it so strongly that we brought it back, much to the dismay of
those looking for more anarchic lulz. We hope, wish, even beg, that the
movement manifests itself into a revolution that can continue on
without us. The support we've gathered for it in such a short space of
time is truly overwhelming, and not to mention humbling. Please don't
stop. Together, united, we can stomp down our common oppressors and
imbue ourselves with the power and freedom we deserve. We hope we had a
microscopic impact on someone, somewhere. Anywhere." Well, it was fun while it lasted. And so FedWire is safe again. So is, for the time being, the internet.

As part of its dissolution, LulzSec released the following torrent.

Friends around the globe,

We are Lulz Security, and this is our
final release, as today marks something meaningful to us. 50 days ago,
we set sail with our humble ship on an uneasy and brutal ocean: the
Internet. The hate machine, the love machine, the machine powered by
many machines. We are all part of it, helping it grow, and helping it
grow on us.

For the past 50 days we've been
disrupting and exposing corporations, governments, often the general
population itself, and quite possibly everything in between, just
because we could. All to selflessly entertain others - vanity, fame,
recognition, all of these things are shadowed by our desire for that
which we all love. The raw, uninterrupted, chaotic thrill of
entertainment and anarchy. It's what we all crave, even the seemingly
lifeless politicians and emotionless, middle-aged self-titled failures.
You are not failures. You have not blown away. You can get what you want
and you are worth having it, believe in yourself.

While we are responsible for everything
that The Lulz Boat is, we are not tied to this identity permanently.
Behind this jolly visage of rainbows and top hats, we are people. People
with a preference for music, a preference for food; we have varying
taste in clothes and television, we are just like you. Even Hitler and
Osama Bin Laden had these unique variations and style, and isn't that
interesting to know? The mediocre painter turned supervillain liked cats
more than we did.

Again, behind the mask, behind the
insanity and mayhem, we truly believe in the AntiSec movement. We
believe in it so strongly that we brought it back, much to the dismay of
those looking for more anarchic lulz.

So with those last thoughts, it's time
to say bon voyage. Our planned 50 day cruise has expired, and we must
now sail into the distance, leaving behind - we hope - inspiration,
fear, denial, happiness, approval, disapproval, mockery, embarrassment,
thoughtfulness, jealousy, hate, even love. If anything, we hope we had a
microscopic impact on someone, somewhere. Anywhere.

Thank you for sailing with us. The breeze is fresh and the sun is setting, so now we head for the horizon.

Let it flow...

Lulz Security - our crew of six wishes
you a happy 2011, and a shout-out to all of our battlefleet members and
supporters across the globe

Interesting read.  TD should enjoy it.  Who's/What's the original poster?

Correct you are sir!  Many in the scene concluded as much as well, and stayed out of the pool.

If only Gadaffi had quit like Lulzsec.

Long-John-Silver's picture

Why should Gadaffi quit while he's winning?

BayAreaAlan's picture

Same reason Lulzsec and Ricky Gervais did.

My guess is that the CIA/NSA hired them..........

Knee-jerk reaction would be to call them racists, but that would be inaccurate.

There's been a few bits and peices that point at someone on the governmental side providing some type of support. I know people are saying they're script kiddies, but I really don't think so. More like B-team Anonymous wannabes that work for a paycheck.

That all this was going down as internet kill switch bills were making their way through congress is just a tad bit suspicious, as is the Bradley Manning set-up artist's name showing up on lulz domain registrations -- perhaps a joke, perhaps not, but 100% peculiar and suspicious.

Also, in the hacker community it had been reported sometime in the past week that Anon hacked and knew exactly who lulz was, but chose to not expose them. Perhaps they worked in a more subtle way (i.e. go away, or we will.)

For the past 50 days  ( 4.3e15 nanoseconds ) these pussies have been doing whatever their masters have told them to do, with whatever freebies they were given, while pretending to be something that they never were.

Good riddance to bad bullshit.

On a related note -- hey, whatever happened to that wikileaks thingy?  Long time no leaky.

You have to pay up now. Assange is now a hollywood star, but you can still be one of the lucky fanbois who get to spend a night with him:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=290576762574

This is your chance at being one of eight people to dine with WikiLeaks editor-in-chief Julian Assange and renowned Slovenian philosopher, Slavoj Žižek.

The lunch will be from 12 - 3pm on Saturday 2nd July at one of London's finest restaurants. The meal will be followed by a Frontline Club event (http://www.frontlineclub.com/events/2011/07/announcing-frontline-club-ex...) from 4pm - 6pm at The Troxy in East London where these two formidable forces will be discussing the impact of WikiLeaks on the world and what it means for the future.

GeneMarchbanks's picture

Slavoj Žižek is a ponce. Assange is an Aussie asswipe. Anyone who thinks these two are in any way influential are badly misinformed.

And whose bright idea was it to offshore systems on a chip? Backdoor Chicoms anyone?

wisefool's picture

this is a pretty good point. There are some many protocols and services that do get pulled into hardware there is a true risk in this. The test carts to explore every possible back door on a 10+ Million transistor chip would be hella complex. Then you got ask youself are the chips that you are using to ron the certifications also back doored ....

Their final blow was "outing" AZ state's rights on illegal immigration?

How more pro-Obama could a hacker group be?

This was (and all the others to come) a government run psy-op.

James T. Kirk's picture

Yeah, I just saw that AZ piece.  So, a hacker group that is supposedly on the side of good, yet they are against the US maintaining border security.  Their "goodby manifesto" is so rambling, you can't tell what direction their moral compass is pointing.  I think its the new 21st century style - have a set of random beliefs that you can get all smarmy annd self-righteous about, but without the need to present a rationally cohesive framework for your "dogma."  Their propaganda smells like the bullshit the commies used to spew out in the 80's.

i-dog's picture

"Their propaganda smells like the bullshit the commies used to spew out in the 80's."

Yep ... same CIA, different front.

macholatte's picture

....you can't tell what direction their moral compass is pointing.

They are children hiding in adult bodies hiding in their college dorms never to escape. Outside looking in. Clearly, what they have written displays signs of a tantrum to gain attention.

Tee he he. Oops! Got spooked by the cops?

Perhaps highly educated in the field of computer geek and likely have been jerking off to various porno cyber ops since they first discovered pubic hair. Stole a pack of gum at age 10 and got a rush. Been hooked on being bad ever since. Useful idiots playing right into the hands of the establishment eager to take away all the toyz. Moral compass? Not likely. Reckless is more like it.

Nevertheless, they are dangerous.

That's because anyone that believes in property rights favors open borders.

Or, a group of 16yr olds, rotating in and out............

I have found the only people who do not get illegal, over immigration, are in one of two categories.Kids, and lefties.

we can always re-explore the [ Guillotine} and get napoleanistic about it?

JW n FL's picture

Yes! Sir!! we can not only develop an exploratory committee.. we can as well experiment!

How many man hours would it take to cut the heads off the Lobby Whores, Their Owners and the AAA Rated Crowd plus the Top 1%??? that's the first question for the exploratory committee to ponder.. we need a viable solution to rid ourselves of the infestation we ALL! now face.

Were they really attacking Fedwire?  I wouldn't think the addresses of those servers would be widely known?  Seems like it would require some inside information.  It takes a certain level of knowledge to even know what that is.  Not something I'd expect from kiddies...

I'd guess either they're the real deal or agent provocateurs.
