Here is some important information on cell phone demographics from Wilson Electronics (found on Mashable Mobile). I can attest that Hong Kongers and Singaporeans are obsessed with mobile culture. Mobile phone kiosks and sales centers are probably the only street front locations rivaling real estate brokerages, hair salons and banks. CP

This provides me with a convenient excuse for posting this video of the famous Hong Kong "Bus Uncle" who was captured on a cell phone while berating someone for asking him to tone it down. The language used is as fowl as it gets.

interesting piece of history and fractal me thinks.   ongoing....

"the Duel

The most succinct version of the story might go like this:

.

On the morning of July 11, 1804, Aaron Burr and Alexander Hamilton were

rowed across the Hudson River in separate boats to a secluded spot near

Weehawken, New Jersey.  There, in accord with the customs of the code

duello, they exchanged pistol shots at ten paces.  Hamilton was struck on

the right side and died the following day.  Though unhurt, Burr found that

his reputation suffered an equally fatal wound.   In this, the most famous

duel in American history, both participants were casualties.

.

While all the information in this version of the story is accurate, its

admirable brevity creates some unfortunate historical casualties of its

own. " .....

WB7 - with this post you have the recently released song from CAKE playing in mind. The following lyrics in particular :

Every shiny toy
That at first brings you joy
Will always start to croy and annoy

Every camera every phone
All the music that you own
Won't change the fact you're all alone (All alone! )

Every piece of land
every city that you plan
will crumble into tiny grains of sand

Every thing you find that at first gives you shine
always turns into the same old crime (Same old crime! )

==> Sick of You - CAKE (Official Video)

Best wishes going forward  ... MMC

A few months ago I got the Verizon Droid - it does a lot of cool stuff but I found it getting a lot hotter than anything I was used to.  I heard a radio interview with Devra Davies, she wrote a book about cell phone radiation/microwaves called Disconnect.  The new phones could be much more dangerous than the old brick phones - you might know about some of the brain cancer stories from a number of heavy cell phone users, even Ted Kennedy.  Anyway, the cell phone industry has used the play book from the tobacco companies - deny, dispute, discredit, destroy scientists careers, etc.   The future could be bleak for many of the 50% plus tweens using 3G & 4G phones seveal hours per day. It is worth learning about this, for yourself,  and especially if you have kids or grand kids.

I got my ham radio license before cell phones took off. One of the first things you learn is how UHF electromagnetic radiation (micro waves) can damage body organs. There were all kinds of warnings about how you should hold the radios away from your head.

Suddenly, for commercial reasons, these issues supposedly disappeared.

Yup...Don't hold the phone next to your head. Keep your calls short and use a fixed line for long calls.

Interesting example of collective irrationality. Whenever a technology becomes popular, it is overused and all nuance is lost.

Another satirical topic, williambanzai7:  In light of the FBI terrorist entrapment scam, don't you think they should have self-service vending machines that record a video jihad testimonial, print out target maps, and dispense fake bombs, all for free?  Such a vending machine does not provide encouragement and drive the unwitting to the target, but increased sensational headlines and FBI bonuses surely make up for the lack of legitimacy ;^)  The blinking LEDs on the fake bomb could alert law enforcement to discover the person of concern.

Read an article yesterday, Congress has the automakers working on a way to make a cell phone unable to work in new vehicles.

I wonder when they will regulate how many times I can wipe my ass,and flush my toilets everyday.

No.

My Daughter and I were rear-ended by a lady on her cell phone.

We were at a stop light.  We were the third car stopped at the stop light.  Lady comes up behind me doing 30 mph with her eyes on cell phone - I saw it coming - she never looked up and slammed right into us.

Luckily no serious injuries beyond whiplash - but most of us apes need controls on our ape'ish stupidity and lusts.

Texting while driving is as bad as being drunk - and both kill innocent adults and children who don't have their heads in their asses or cell phones.

Rampant narcissism is what it boils down too.

Betty Paige had one fine body, damn.

I know I can't drive and conduct a telephone conversation...it is too distracting. I have this feeling that the brain processes a telephone call differently from a face to face conversation. For example, for me talking on a mobile seems to involve a different cognitive process than talking to someone you are walking with. Just me?

I think it has something to do with the brain trying to imply the missing visual realty (face expressions etc).

The distraction is ok while walking, but in a car it is dangerous.
