A shame. Best one on CNBC hands down. RIP.
Ditto. The Barney Frank walk off was the stuff of dreams. RIP.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTppoBZKC4s
He would have no problems going after Republicans and GW, even on CNBC

Too bad!
@ IdioT
RIP indeed Mark Haines. I just wrote a small piece about him at my new blog. Because I use my *real name* at my blog, I do not post the link here. Want to see it? Send me an email (gmail), prove who you are and that you will decent and discrete. 15 ZH-ers have passed the test.
A rolling bearing salesman has a blog where he uses his real name but you want to keep it secret? So you have this litmus and you found 15 zh-ers that actually give a fuck. I wonder how many of those are federal agents. I promise to be "decent" so is your address dumbass @gmail.com?
I regret that I have to decline to send you the link. You are the first.
I DO like your stuff here at ZH, and your cool name and avatar.
My blog is not the Fight Club. It is open to everyone on my email Joke List and everyone at my Facebook account.
The 15 ZH-ers who have contacted me have all been very polite and in almost cases rather kind. I am not worried about federal agents because I have not done anything illegal, well, not much!
I do not sell bearings. I help my in-laws (in Peru) buy them.
"I regret that I have to decline to send you the link. You are the first."
+1, DoChen
Hung pung what happened to your "sense Of humor? I should play coy cause I think your musings in blog form might be the FUCKING MOST USELESS INFO available but I'm sure it would provide non-stop comedy. Six months ago you told me " I am just a 57 year old rolling bearing salesman" I guess, I guess, I guess I didnt know. Either way please reconsider I promise to be "decent". Off topic can your peruvian inlaws hook a nigger up with a "speed bump"? ask me for my e-mail
I needed a good laugh today.
But the arrogant little bastard got reelected. There is a body of thought that says we DO get the government we deserve.
Mark Haines handled himself with class and the proper balance of courtesy and toughness.
Totally agree. Barney Frank says "Do you want to lose me" and Mark Haines say "Bye".
That was CLASSIC.....
There is not much left to CNBC, after today, to tune-in for.
I don't see anyone filling his shoes any time soon.
Neither do I... whiff of "end of era" in the air?
Um, why do people still watch CNBC?
I mean, even if it was just to watch Mark Haines (whom I've never heard of before today) smacking down jack-asses? Plenty of jack-ass smacking (and better financial news) on YouTube and thereabouts.
I am Chumbawamba.
If you never heard of him WHY are you commenting?
Because fuck him, that's why.
I am Chumbawamba.
i love you chumba and always will. you are a very nice man.
Chumba you are a classless jerk who will not be missed...
My sympathy goes to Mark's family. Mark did his job well and his passing is sad. May God welcome him into heaven.
"welcome him to heaven" fuckingLMAOFOTfuckingF.. fucking heaven LOL. Keep clicking your heels together MF.
Hey chumbawannabee, does us all a favor and please shut the fuck up, okay?
He's funnier and more relevant than your wining ass so do us All a favor and shut the fuct up, Okay pussy?
Wow, quite the hate for the contrarian opinion. Mr. Haines is probably grateful that he no longer has to spend his days being surrounded by absolute idiots spewing nothing but insane rantings that make syphillitic chimps seem rational.
But, if his only claim to fame is being the guy that asked the hard questions then, really, fuck him. He was still part of an organization that serves no other purpose than to cover for the crimes of the banking oligopoly. He's complicit.
I am Chumbawamba.
He was an avid grower of tomatoes and had many different varieties that he cross-pollinated. Can't fault a fella for that I suppose. I will not, however, miss his atrocious comb-over.
Here is one of his more typical moments:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ec-6MT0iPWU&feature=player_embedded
and this:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hTppoBZKC4s
He did not see the Twin Towers collapsing as "accidental"!
I watched it at times because it is an excellent source of spin that creates the facade of a functional market.
Or... attempts to.
Between Liesman and Pisani, I'm informed of exactly what flavor of BS TPTB are selling that day. Add in a little Hilsenrath, and it's like a NY Fed puppet suddenly come to life.
It's best watched on a DVR though, that way you can avoid their dueling stock-pumper segments.
RIP, Mark.
Hardly. Telling Frank he was a totally corrupt useless piece of shit would have been a "classic" and much closer to the truth.
Nothing against Haines personally, but CNBC is fucking joke.
Will miss you Mark..
Only the good die young.
(-ish).
Disagree, Santelli
Was he sick?
Holy shit, One guy on cnbs I actually liked. Could always tell he didn't like the bullshit.
That was the beauty of the guy. Never took BS from anyone.
His training as a lawyer was often on display when he questioned guests. He didn't take kindly to contradictory statements or circular thinking. I'll never forget when he told someone on the air that he (Mark) didn't suffer fools well.
One of the good guys. RIP, you will be missed.
i'm very sad
Rest in Peace Mark... you were a classic and I always knew where you stood, right or wrong.
In related news, I suppose this will be worth 20 SPX points to the upside.
good bye
Seened like the best guy they had, very sad. Now they will replace him with another gay brit or dumb fake titted bitch.
Or a gay Brit with fake tits!
Done. They already hired Simon Hobbs.
Trump was on a couple of weeks ago by phone, and in classic Trump asked "who is this Simmon guy?" (after Simmon asked a stupid question) Then proceeded to rip Simmon a new one on his lack of knowledge of the real estate market. It was great.
Probably could have taught him a thing or two about bankruptcy law, too.
and how to turn a three inch square patch of two foot long hairs into a full head of hair.
is hobbs a flamer?
Rest in Peace..
Mark Haines gets indignant on politicshttp://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0_iQobCNGas
No idea he was 65. RIP Mark, you were one of a few worth watching on CNBC.
First Erin, now Mark?
Why the hell would I want to watch CNBC now?
He had a heart attack according to Wikipedia.
LOL. I thought she was dead when I read your comment.
Too bad about Haines. It must have pained him to be silent on GE.
Wow that is too bad. Other than Rick Santelli he seemed to be the only one who looked at things with a skeptical eye.
my thoughts exactly... Santelli is a lone soldier now.... RIP Mark Haines
Why couldn't the TV gods take Cramer instead? I will miss Mark's humor and wit.
I never cared for his work personally as he often openly mocked people who's opinions differed from his own, but this is sad news. Prayers go out to his family and to the folks at CNBC who clearly cared for Mark. RIP.
any idea how?
Look what you've done, Erin Burnett. Thanks a lot - thanks one whole hell of a lot.
saddens me. puts life and time on earth in proper perspective, again.
Lt., RIP indeed Mark Haines. I just wrote a small piece about him at my new blog. Because I use my *real name* at my blog, I do not post the link here. Want to see it? Send me an email (gmail), prove who you are and that you will decent and discrete. 15 ZH-ers have passed the test.
He will be missed.
Tough loss for the honest investor...RIP
Pity....He had a good nose for sniffing out the bullshit... Also the most pragmatic of the CNBC of the crew.
Mark Haines was the best. I don't think I will be able to watch squawk ever again. Very sad.
This has to rate as perhaps the most gratuitous junking ever.... Must have been one of the Randian inspired sociopaths...
Too bad he wasn't able to pass along his "no take crap" attitude to his coworkers.
I'll miss you and your skeptical wit. Godspeed, Mark Haines.
RIP
Wow. At times Mark was really good. I think he did what he had to do even when he didn't agree. That happens when you are working for the man.
Godspeed Mark, I enjoyed watching you.
death to CNBC the worst channel for fin news (but the only one around on Cable).
All issues aside with mark.... May he RIP
Gotta live every day like it is your last.
You never know when your time is up.
Mark Haines RIP.
'RL' RIP
There goes the last piece of on-air professional skepticism on CNBC.
One of the fatherly "good guys."
Our sincere condolences to his family.
Man, I liked Mark. RIP
Me too. RIP.
Haines alway gave me the impression he didn't know squat about PM's and the miners. Never could quite figure out whether it was an act or not.
He was one of the only ones with a brain and a conscience. But you could tell he was always supressing his true feelings about the bullshit he saw around him. He had to keep his job...
RIP
I remember when they put that stupid dow 14000 hat on mark when the dow was about to break through that level. Funny, he did not have that hat on when it went crashing through 14000 the other way. But, he was a very likable chap!
Tuco Benedicto Pacifico Juan Maria Ramirez
Ive been watching him since I broke into this biz in 1996. One of the good ones for sure.
What?...are you a fucking burglar. Should have just knocked. Mug's money welcome anytime.
RIP to Haines and condolences to his family.
Regards.
On a long enough timeline the survival rate for everyone drops to zero. Where have I heard that before.
Who the hell cares. Useless bag of wind, just like the rest of them. BTW, how many 18 or 19 year olds died in the MENA today fighting to keep bankstas bonuses? Fuck a bunch of talking heads. Was the guy a vet? If so, I'll cut him some slack.
Googled: A lawyer, never did anything to pay his fucking dues to anyone.
You sir are a bastard of the worst kind.
That is your opinion which is worth what I paid for it. I am a realist, not my rules, life is hard, don't think so? Stop breathing for 7 minutes numbnut.
I divide the world into two camps:
Those who have paid (military, Peace Corps, Vista, VOA, etc.)
Useless takers
Then you've summed-up your life pretty well. YOU, sir, are an example of the biggest 'useless taker' of all. A taker of faith. A taker of memories. A taker of truth. A total taker of space.
The military, Peace Corps... are a league of givers. That's not you, my friend. Take a few minutes and get over yourself.
Just my world view accumulated thru experiences thru the years. You don't have to like it. You don't have to comment on it. You take your road and I'll take mine. Ciao.
Let's be clear. It's not about 'liking' you or your comments. It's about time and place. It's about respect. That thin line between right and wrong that, for some unknown reason, you decided to cross when you got out of bed this morning. Your so-called years of experience have taught you little. You are a man of years, not a man of experience. Haines, on the otherhand, was a man of REAL experience. A professional. The road Mark took (and I hope I've taken) is one of being blessed of life and respected in death.
Go away. This isn't your time OR your place. Go crap on another post. Turn off your computer, step outside, take a breath of air, and realize that it's just not about you today, your opinion or how hateful you can be.
'Experiences' my ass.
The only reply that comes to mind in regards to the above self-righteous bullshit is "fuck you, asshole." Sorry to hear your ass is so experienced.
Shameful, C55
"I divide the world into two camps"
Well then, don't be surprised when you are dead wrong most of the time.
Pissed-off self proclaimed Judges of the World probably should not drink before lunch either.
Sorry, don't drink nor do drugs. I am rarely wrong.
Well you're wrong today.
Well played.
I find it interesting that your list of "those who have paid" are exactly the same people that allow the banksters to loot us at the point of a gun.
Are you defining those tax-consumers on your list as "useless takers?"
you're a waste of flesh, sack. and with no class, to boot. well played, moron.
See above. Applies to your dumbass also.
Jesus Sack..., why the public suicide?
Why the public hypocrisy?
I hope you are just having a bad day, and are not generally lacking in human decency like your comment might suggest.
I have not watched CNBC once since last fall. I only have Bloomberg on in the office now. In any case, Mark and Rick were the only guys worth watching. Mark and CNBC rest-in-peace.
Well that's sobering.
I don't watch CNBC that much anymore but at one time it was like these guys were part of your family (including the love 'em or hate 'em part) - jabbering at you for 11 hours a day while you yelled into the phone and stared at numbers on screens...
I generally appreciated his scepticism and aversion to cheer-leading.
Goddamn.
Zero chance of getting out of this thing alive.
Show your respect be doing something nice for a self-hating human.
His arrogance was annoying but this is still very sad. 65 is way too young.
and barney frank lives forever.
Maybe it's his high protein diet ?........Mark was always in good cheer ! He reminded me of myself !........I just wish he could have said a nice word for Tim ! Maybe they'll get together up there and joke about how ugly Janet Reno is ! Maybe they can take some of the Waco kids Bill Clinton murdered to the park in Heaven ? RIP for both of them ! Monedas 2011 No joke...not now ! The kids at Waco were murdered ! Oklahoma was collateral damage !
Bob Pisani can't say enough about how rude he was. Dam dude. Save it for Eulogy so the family can beat the shit out of you.
He was always very contemptuous regarding Ron Paul
As well as very anti-barbarous-relic. He didn't like new government spending, yet always capitulated that they "had to do something!". Even on TARP.
He was good at working an opposing view into acceptance it. Seems his lawyer skills served him (and his bosses) well.
And Bob "Egg Plant Puke" Pisani is no Rick Santelli and never will be ! There are good Wops and bad Wops....there is only one Monedas 2011 http://trololololololololololo.com/
I always liked how he would call BS when he knew something wasn't right or misleading. Gonna miss him...
.
Cause of death?
Not sure, but I will never eat cheetos again.
He was also fond of meat salads.
and liquid cheese.
Since this is Zero Hedge, I'll say it first: "INSIDE JOB!"
CIA, hottub, drug induced heart attack.
What this isn't Clue?
In the kitchen with a candlestick, Col. Mustard.
Really though? Cigarettes? Sounds like they thought it went "fast", so recent diagnosis? Okay on Friday but not at work this week . . .
Sorry - but questioning the mass media and finding out what the politicians/rich/powerful are doing behind the scenes doesn't mean ZH readers are a bunch of conspiracy-theory nuts.
I'm going to go with sick of this shit.
Art Cashin probably next.
65 is too young...
Sad news
He was skeptical and I appreciate that.
His last advise to us may have been, "watch the stress level guys."
Vaya con Dios.
Terrible network
Fantastic tallent
Only non fluff non puff piece journalist I have ever seen
RIP good sir
:(((((
Great vid, but,
Why is he interviewing a muppet?
How did he pass? Can't rule out the TPTB as suspects.
Cheetos, Mark. By far Erin Burnett's better half. RIP.
Mark went down swinging.
Leaves another opening for a bandy legged, tit bird,
who can smile and hedge with fork chops.
Agreed, look what happened to "Meet the Press" after Tim Russert passed away.
.
The video clip above is long and boring, but worth it at the end when Frank gets combative...
Haines says, "Fine, goodbye sir..." and Frank goes away.
To 'confer' behind closed doors with a page or two, no doubt.
See this is what happens when your work wife dumps you :)
RIP Mark Haines.
My memories of this day are as if it happened yesterday. Mark was awesome.
http://www.youtube.com/user/cnbc911#p/u/1/kkfkd0X9gPA
Thanks for sharing the link Lizzy. I turned on the TV at about 9:15 - 9:30 that morning after the South Tower had been hit.
Amazing how reserved and careful his reaction was on this video. He could not bring himself to say there was a fire in the building despite all the smoke. A great example of his professionalism as a reporter.
This is exactly where I was -- watching this very station. I was stunned as the morning progressed. I also remember where and I was and what I was doing when Kennedy was shot. Two events that will remain forever in my memory. Thanks for posting the video.
Watch at 5 min 30 sec and hear Haines be rather incredulous that this is "accidental"
http://www.youtube.com/user/cnbc911#p/u/11/I9hmlog2JXM
RIP
I told him he should take a laxative. He just wouldn't listen. He just wouldn't listen!
RIP Mark
RIP. Heartfelt condolences go out to his family. Sharp, genuine and funny, he will be missed.
It's like losing someone of the trading family... 65, makes you wonder where all the trading days went.
You're alive until you ain't~
This is where Zero Hedge continues to excel. We all know how we feel about CNBC but here we are, feeling sad and remembering a man that did his best.
Kudos to you Zero Hedge.
You said that very well.
Couldn't agree more.
+100
Did his best? While I feel sorry for the family and friends for their loss, I don't feel it neccessary to prop him up as some kind of icon for us all to look up to.
RIP Mr. Haines. I was a fan of his.
Barney Frank....don't ask me any tough questions I might cry :(
I always noticed that whenever Peter Schiff appeared on CNBC with Haynes 'n Burnett he received the 'Cnbc Style' salesman treatment.
Peter was frequently interrupted,ridiculed,etc...geez they never let that poor guy finish a mere sentence remember?
Remorse?......... jus' a little i guess.
yes , anyone who did not pull the fiat party line, when in the presense of haines, always got their balls busted. i got tired of it , no doubt.
Actually, I always though he was rather fond of precious metals, and knew the day would come that may signal the end of $ tenure. He kept it to himself, though.
Rest in Peace. Condolences to the family.
Couldn't bear separation from Erin Burnett...
wow. that comes as a shock. i wondered where he was lately. had no idea he had health problems. he never talked about it. sorry to hear it. life is short my friends......very short.
