Mark Madoff, Bernard's Son, Hangs Himself
AP reports that Marc Madoff, the son of Bernie, was found hung in his apartment. While it is early to speculate into the causes of death, it is a distinct possibility that the recent pick up in activity by Irving Picard may have some impact. Then again, as lately the big banks have been on the receiving end of Picard's actions, there does seem to be a disconnect, unless of course Mark had incriminating evidence against some of the recently high profile defendants such as JPM and HSBC. Keep in mind that Bernie turned himself in as a means to protect his children and family, or so went the official story.

A law enforcement official tells The Associated Press that a son of Bernard Madoff has been found dead in New York City of an apparent suicide.
The official says Mark Madoff was found hanged in his Manhattan apartment.
A family member notified police around 7:30 a.m. Saturday.
The official spoke to the AP on the condition of anonymity because he wasn't allowed to speak publicly about the case.
Mark Madoff and his brother, Andrew, were under investigation but hadn't faced any criminal charges in the massive Ponzi scheme that led to their father's jailing.

On December 10, 2010, Sonja Kohn was sued by Irving H. Picard, trustee of assets seized by the court from Bernard Madoff, for $19.6 billion. Picard claims that she funneled 'billions' of investor dollars to Madoff in return for $62 million in kickbacks.
She said in a Jan. 14 e-mail to Bloomberg News that she was as deceived by the “Madoff fraud” as anyone else. Madoff wasn’t a friend and didn’t confide in her, she wrote. She says she was a victim of a “fraud that destroyed lives, life savings and companies.”
Following this, Bank Medici has decided on March 19, 2009 to wind down all banking business and to relinquish the banking license.
The Bank Medici directed funds from investors to Bernard Madoff. Sonja Kohn, is shareholder of 75 percent and is head of the Bank Medici supervising board, kept a low profile after the disclosure of the securities fraud conducted by him either to hide from unhappy clients, or from embarrassment at being involved in the affair, or worse .Sonja Kohn (born August 5, 1948 in Vienna.)

When Madoff confessed and said his sons and other "interested" parties were blameless and didn't know what was going on, all everyone else needed to do was to confirm what Dad said and then shut up. Other than the accountants and a few select others, there were no direct ties. Dead end here boys, move along.

Also, conspiracy theories are fun (and certainly anything is possible), but I think in this case it really may have been suicide, carried out on the second anniversary of the arrest.

The Madoff Ponzi was collapsing via unsupportable withdrawals and would have been exposed within a week or two by Bernie's own court room admission. The sons turned in dear old dad to create plausible deniability to their own participation.
Bernie knew there were more than just ma and pa investors involved in the Ponzi and those nefarious entities would want this all sweep under the rug. Bernie falling on his sword stifled many questions before they were even asked. The rug is becoming frayed around the edges and more loose ends need to be tied up.
Madoff is a scumbag who had no problem robbing innocent people, but even he doesn't deserve to experience the death of his child. Sad ending to a rather bizarre tale.
