Marketwide Circuit Breakers Active For Another 2 Hours

Tyler Durden's picture

Don't fret: the NYSE has it all under control. If the market plunge continues the market will simply close. Better get it in the next 2 hours though.

In the meantime...

I often wonder what future digital archeologists will conclude when looking through internet logs and how web memes will skew them.

Possibly conclue that Rick Astley was emporor and that society succumbed to the invasion of a species of "trolls" and that we were a war-like yet dainty society because everyone was so tough while simultaneously being "a fag".

Not so funny when you're traveling at 60 mph and you're about 2 seconds from impact.

Even worse when it's a bigger critter like an elk or a moose.

Moose are some long-legged animals. But yeah, unless you're in an 18 wheeler, the animal will come up over the hood, through the windshield, and rip the whole top of your vehicle off. Of course, the driver and any passengers are generally ripped apart in the process.

Yup. A ditch is better than hitting something like a moose head on.

Animals with high mass but short legs (hogs) will destroy a vehicle, but at least they will yield a nice BBQ if your in laws can get to you before the cops (assuming alcohol involvement)...

In North Idaho, all living organisms are "critters". We even have two-legged critters up here. They can be especially dangerous when trespassing on private property.

Because we have all experienced that precise moment of wide eyed frozen in fear realization where the sweat runs cold and the bowels churn. And we are soooo glad we are not experiencing now what so many others are.

You could almost say we are gloating over the "I told you so" moment. But our ego won't let us be too ebullient otherwise it would show us to be nearly as bad as those we skewer for being cold blooded. So we smirk and laugh and point fingers.

Either that or we all like to see a flash-lighted Bambi in the dark.

This appears like there are some big players dropping some risk to buy dollars. Liquidity, yes. Market crash...not today. It'll be much harder than anyone thinks to crash this mrket as long as the long arm of the fed has it in it's pocket. And that ain't changing any time soon. Just like to devalue of the dollar. I can't stand the fed, but they have managed the dollar pullback pretty good to this point. There's a reason the old saying is still around. Don't fight the fed.

The problem really gets kicked off in earnest when this happens 2 to 4 times per week, let alone see that 1 pct loss rise to 2% or 3%.

But that can't/won't happen. The economy is fundamentally strong, and there aren't isn't a literal list of truly incredibly financial and political crises involving previously unimaginable amounts of leveraged debt growing far worse by the week.

There is a whole new tenor to the market, BTFD does not work anymore.  The jagged down pattern is taking over--hard spikes down, rally back up to the previous break point, consolidate a little bit, then another spike down lower.  Down / bear market action is different than bull market action and it is back in force. This is where loss aversion takes over and people get more emotional about their trading and start running for the exits to protect what's left of any profits.  Volatility will increase and you will see strong snap back moves as well as day trading bears cover stops.  Finally, the VIX is moving up as a confirmation of this new bear move.  Fasten your seat belts.

People should get circuit breakers too. If 10 million people break their circuit together, it counts for a 10 minute halt.... like that, you get the idea.

That would level the playing field. Can you imagine that? Live voting price discovery.

S&P 500 negative for the year, so sad, 401 (k) sheeple down extra due to management fees, so sad.

They are the deer, not the driver.  And what's coming is a fully loaded semi.

Market down, gold steady.  enough said.  The game of fleecing the sheeple is almost done and the game of who can lose less has begun.

Don't forget the "Get to the Chopper" rooftop game. And the "Fill the Lifeboats" game. I always like that one. And the family favorite, "Clueless" seems to have made a comeback.

Good times, good times.

Oh! We're playing "Clueless"?!?

OK, I guess Ben Bernake. In the capital. With the Fed.

So are the shorts covering now to take some profits here and then short some more from a higher level than they just covered at?

Don't you wish the market movers would tell us their plans?

Those greedy SOBs probably won't.

Bernanke will save all 'risk on' traders.

Trust the man. He's a genius, and has proved it according to Time Magazine.

I need a slow daily decline in the market so compounding will really work with my BGZ trade.

I knew it was about to go down!

I almost capitulated today.
If i hadnt got sidetracked discussing issues about socialism i would have jumped back into stocks today thinking the post qe2 correction was already over ( market anticipation brings all crises forward)

I am almost a perfect contrary indicator. As long as i can force myself to do what i dont want to do i more often succeed in making money.

I did not see any post on ZH (probably I missed it) about how a collapse will effect the diversity in manners of trading. It must be the real stock exchanges as last survivors but it also must mean that the most simple platforms like plus500 and tens of others will take the first punch. It is easy to fake server problems and if the masses of the traders get the to point to take the short side of the market the platforms can "shut down" any minute.

They make money on transactions but maybe overlords will make sure there is no direct way to cash in.

I am not exposed but I really would like to see an insight on this
