Max Keiser: "Buy A Silver Coin, Destroy JP Morgan"

Tyler Durden's picture

Max Keiser shares his brilliantly simple plan to bring down the precious metal manipulation cartel (those two terrific guys, JPM and HSBC who have recently been implicated in an avalanche of lawsuits involving silver price manipulation): "if everyone in America buys a silver coin" (which today costs much less then yesterday courtesy of Jim Cramer's wholehearted, and about 2 years overdue, endorsement of gold last night - a far better contrarian signal than even Goldman's FX desk ever could be), a plan originally proposed by ZH contributor Mike Krieger, "it would crash JP Morgan" presumably as the margin calls result in a cash collateral requirement in the billions of dollars. The premise, of course, is that since there is not nearly enough silver to satisfy demand, it would by definition, result in an explosion in the price of the precious metal.

It will be interesting to see how far this meme carries.

Thanks for the link Cathartes, I think that is the most promising piece of news I have read for a long time.

It means that there is already a well established secondary economy in the United States that can take up the slack left when the 'official' economy goes to pieces.

I should hope so. we need a new gold standard. But, considering how much gold/FRN's there are, that should come to a pretty high number.

It's the same reason they can't declare 1 ton of steel to be worth $1, or 1 barrel of oil for $1.  Where is supply going to come from?  All it would do is create economic imbalances as the economy makes moves to ignore insane gov decrees.

Actually the Fed Gov messing with gold would help the gold market, remember the US is not the whole world PM market.  And in our global world expect gold to leave the US should they try.  It would wound the dollar a lot more then it would hurt gold.  The best thing the Fed Gov can do is what they are doing, publicly ignore gold and call it an oddity and privately fight it.

A co-ordinated call to action.

I'm in. Will buy tomorrow/day after.

After Monday, all bets are off. Expect great volatility, as the Dollear Ink-Jet will commence it's last gasp. gas-less, momentum driven high before beginning a descent to some chaotic low.

Next week portends to be a hold on to your hats kind of week.

Some major volatility, wild swings in portfolio value.... not a week to spend but to sit tight.

The next leg up will be unstoppable and could be a week or two away. Convert inert fiat to bullion and sit tight.

Oh, here we go again...even Chris Martenson doesn't know what Quantitative Easing is, neither do any of the people commenting above me, neither does ZH, neither does the MSM, even Wikipedia, Does ANYONE?

Listen very carefully people:

QE IS NOT MONEY PRINTING, IT'S A SWAP

QE IS NOT MONEY PRINTING, IT'S A SWAP

QE IS NOT MONEY PRINTING, IT'S A SWAP

Are we paying attention yet?

QE involves swapping reserves for assets. The Fed is converting it's liabilities to assets. Under QE1 those 'assets' included MBS, under QE2 it's mainly gov bonds.

Now what part of this don't people get? This is the Fed's whole POINT, to maintain a reserve and use that reserve in whatever way it can when an emergency arises, and that's exactly what it's doing!

Chris says:

the Fed's recent decision to directly monetize the next 8 months of federal deficit spending

Wrong, the Fed is NOT directly monetizing debt, it's swapping

because at the end of the day, money was printed and Treasuries were bought

No, money was NOT printed. Reserves were simply engaged, it looks like money printing but it's not, and it's easily reversible

QE II, then is about getting thin-air money to the government

Yes, it's about getting money to the govt, but it did NOT come from thin air

Even Wikipedia is confused about this, right from the get go, observe:

A central bank implements quantitative easing by first crediting its own account with money it creates ex nihilo ("out of nothing")

Sure, all fiat currency originally comes from thin air, but that money was NOT simply created at the time of QE for the purpose of QE, it already exists.

Quantitative easing is sometimes colloquially described as "printing money" although in reality the money is simply shifted from member bank dollar deposits to financial instruments.

tmosley's picture

I'm not sure what his point was.  That is a distinction without a difference.  They are printing the reserves and buying assets at prices no one else would ever pay for them.

This is swapping like passing a bad check in exchange for goods is swapping.

If the money didn't come from thin air, where did it come from?  This guy is talking out of his ass.  The Federal Reserve is not a taxing authority.  They don't have their own money.  They just print it.  He fundamentally misunderstands what the Federal Reserve is and does.

Sure, it's interesting the way a madman's views are interesting.  They just aren't based on reality.  This is a guy that really want's to believe in the Fed, so much so that he suddenly goes deaf when even Fed officials themselves say that QE is printing money.

That's funny, the Dallas Federal Reserve President called it monetization.

Yet when an actual Federal Reserve Fed President, in this case Dallas Fed’s Dick Fisher states it without any trace of hiding the underlying intent, then things get a little serious. To wit: “For the next eight months, the nation’s central bank will be monetizing the federal debt.

Last time I checked, monetization is not the same as "swaps".  Monetization = money printing.  Don't get caught up with the technical movements designed to purposefully obfuscate the FED's actions.

Should I listen to the Dallas Fed President?  Or Spalding_Smailes?

Sure swapping credit money (i.e malinvestment) for base money is in every sense of the word inflationary. Havent read his Q/A but the obfuscation is clear. By effecting the "swap" you legitimize the malinvestment which when destroyed, not if, forces the ratchedted up base to chase the same "production" ergo the Taleb upside down ketchup bottle spewing forth. All the between the legs dribbling about swaps, printing etc. obfuscates a very simple reality: deadweight loss fighting the liquidation gravity. Thus far the laws of physics remain unchanged

OK, call me dumb, but it seems like that whole conversation yesterday was predicated on one assumption - that the Fed is using its reserves to purchase the bond assets in QE2, instead of printing new money (and thus leaving the reserves in place).  I haven't seen that written anywhere, and I didn't see it linked yesterday (I may have missed it).

Mediocritas - if you're reading, please state from where you got that information.  If that's true then you're right - QE2 isn't printing new money it's just puttting money into circulation that would otherwise be sitting in reserve.  But I don't believe you're right - I haven't read anywhere that the Fed is using its reserves, instead of just printing new money as everyone states they're doing.

Edit:

P.S. in the end really that's all the whole fractional reserve lending system does anyhow.  Even without the Fed's intervention, new money is printed all the time whenever banks' reserve ratios increase due to new lending.  This happened in spades during the housing bubble of course - trillions of $$ of new money was put into the economy without the Fed lifting a finger.  So in reality the question is a bit moot, in the short-term anyhow 2-3 year horizon anyhow.

The only difference is (I think - as a layman) is that non-Fed money creation is:

 - Limited by reserve ratio requirements

 - Retractable during a recession, as loans are paid down and/or written off (the previously-created money is destroyed)

Write the article for infowars.  At the very least this will scare the crap out of the paper silver trolls.  By the way there are still local coin shops and some jewelers sell coin/bullion as well, look into it, one doesn't neccesarily need to buy online.  Tell your neighbors and your friends at church, work.  Excellent opportunity for first timers to discover the visceral sense of well being which comes with holding even one ounce of real old school money.  The knock on is that many of those folks will continue to buy in future.  Overall, fantastic idea.  Viralize it Bitchez.

Speaking of Mr. Jones. Where would you all send people to regarding 9/11 being an inside job? I myself have a hard time taking that claim seriously. I imagine there are a lot of ZH readers that agree with him on 9/11 being an inside job. If so, why do you?

On the topic, I just took my 1st physical delivery of silver and gold. I'm not sure how I feel about it, good mostly, but I'm also thinking, is this little 1 oz. Krugerrand really worth $1400? To be honest, its a bit surreal.

I think buying gold is for people with a LOT of money to invest, they draw their $120K out of the stock market and put it in gold, if like me you don't have this sort of cash to splash about then stick with silver.

Alex Jones can be a bit of a drama queen at times but he talks about serious topics so maybe I'm just too laid back. It seems to work for him anyway, I'm sure his Texas audience lap it up.

There's tons of information out there about 9/11, I personally think the evidence for controlled demolition is overwhelming. What you have to remember is that there are organisations out there like Popular Mechanics who set out to mislead and obfuscate. They have been caught out many times simply making things up. They claim that the government has shown them classified photographs confirming the official story but these images aren't available to the public, so why show them to a magazine?

You are not part of the fringe you are part of the new norm.  (You can still wear a tin foil hat if you want, I do)  While I am new to ZH too I am not new to the gold and silver markets.  It will get easier and less unsettling as time goes by.  Just remember it is an investment in your future and/or your family's future.  Pay attention to the markets, read the news, especially here, and make friendships where you can discuss your concerns and triumphs in the gold and silver markets.  Ask yourself why you are really investing, (be it long term or short) and know how to get out, even if your goals are long term.

word on the WSJ was that JP was long the metal actually.  Does the bank even know?  Do they care?  With the amount of money sloshing around courtesy of "ZIRP" it's just a rounding error.  Now with the "tanking of the treasury market" (thx to QE???!!!) suddenly "man, dat greenback sheet is pricey!"  isn't it interesting that the dollar is rising today!  AGAIN we learn "markets make worthless puny humans look like worthless puny humans."  it's "why we have actual FIRMS that deal with finance and not just one guy."  BB?  I think you're making us realize that the day the CB may be well past us now.

This is how you sell Silver in America:

Imagine! One oz silver goes for less than a family's dinner at McDonald's!

Imagine! How quick do you spend up to $30 on a family's movie night? Now imagine you'd have bought an ounce of silver for the same price!

That will get their attention.

ONE OUNCE OF HARD ASSET PRECIOUS METAL AT A FRACTION OF THE WEEKLY GROCERY BUDGET.

A bloody joke. The cost of everything you need is going through the roof. The value of the currency is going down. Grab that silver while you can still get it that cheap.

Silver anywhere below $100 per ounce is a bargain. You'll thank me in 2 years.

I'm probably wrong on this but wouldn't it be better to organize a mass long position on paper silver instead of buying physical? This would effect the market price instantaneously and still have the effect of squeezing R-fella out of his short position, would it not?

This is basically what the big banks are doing but in reverse, they short so much that the price is driven down and they make profits off those shorts. I'm new to trading so if I'm wrong please put me right.

Nope , according to many on here, the big banks are backed by the biggest paper pusher , the federal reserve, therefore you will never win in a paper game because the money is there . The point of taking physical delivery is to show the actual supply shortage and to show that the price of silver should be well above its paper price .

I spent $90 on lunch yesterday and my friend and I were musing how that lunch was worth only 3 oz of silver.

The cost of everything you need to LIVE is going through the roof all the while idiots like you are touting a recovery and that America is coming back.

Avg Joe has no cash. You're right with that. Now that cashless J6P has even higher bills to pay and can afford less and less to LIVE.

America is going down and nothing will stop that. J6P with gold and silver metal might have a chance to leave something for his kids if he can afford to hold on to it.

Luckily historically if a persona can physically make it out carrying gold on them is not that big of an issue. Hope it stays true in the future. After all if I can't leave it's not like it would do a lot of good sitting over there waiting for me.

A few cents more at the Gas pump is nothing to whine and scream about. IT's CALLED SHARED sacrifice.

If it wasn`t for their actions, the plunge of 2008 would continue to this day and most institutions would follow in the steps of BS, LEH, etc.
The Dow would be below 1000 today and your investments would be worth 10 cents on the dollar. At best. Your deposits at your local bank would be gone after most banks would go under with the FDIC unable to cover for the massive losses making it total loss for you and me
Be careful what you seem to wish for....

DOOM DOOM DOOM. It's funny to be HOTSHOT bloggers and bullies on financial blogs, but that doesn't mean your opinion has any significance in reality.

Actually, I think most of us worried about the SHTF do not want that to happen.  Society would really suck even for the best prepared.  But those of us trying to be ready in case something really bad happens will be relatively better off.

We have solved NONE of our macro-financial problems since 2008.  I feel the opposite, we have more (many more?) rough patches ahead.

Yeah unfortunately I have no idea of how to construct a website I only purchased the place holder since it seemed the most logical name. I will turn the information over to Zero Hedge or anyone else when they want to begin construction.

I am however looking forward to getting these posters up which should serve a dual purpose in promoting Zero Hedge as well as the Silverbomb. The important message to convey to people unaware of what is being attempted is that it is an effort to show those who wish to dominate us with a valueless currency that they print without consequence to our personal inflation and savings is that we can fight back collectively and cause reprecussions.

And now back to our regularly scheduled over leveraged ramp job to green with an hour left to close out the week
