Meanwhile, Back In the OTHER Gulf

George Washington's picture

Washington’s Blog

The Middle East is in the news a lot ... rightfully so.

But - unfortunately - there are still many newsworthy occurrences back in the other Gulf ... the Gulf of Mexico.

Here
are some of the stories from the last two weeks courtesy of Florida Oil
Spill Law (click through links to original stories):

I have to admit I was shocked they made the oil disappear like that after it leaked for that long. Blobs show up near Florida from time to time even before this oil spill happened but I do think there will be some issues with that stuff that made the oil sink or whatever it did.

Thank you George, for your tireless efforts on a continuous basis.  Most restaurants on the water I've been to make it perfectly clear that NO seafood comes from the Gulf, I like how they've handwritten it on the menus, like this is temporary-- it'll go away...I don't know if I believe them, but.....  Ms C and everyone here, I hope everyone is well.   Yes, the damn trolls are missing...what's wrong with this picture, do they have a bigger assignment now?

I read the first link re: 3000 ft toxic goo. Then stopped....

It was dead algae. Naomi Klein was the person reporting. She's a red diaper baby and big commie herself now and she was banging her spoon on her high chair about the dead algae. Meanwhile, the Obama administration got more $$ than anyone from BP and gave them enviro shortcuts with bad results. Now they are in contempt of court for not issuing permits for drilling in our own Gulf. This, while future Middle East oil supply is questionable. People will suffer and die worldwide if the USA is allowed to be destoyed.

The greenies insist animals and plants should run free and wild again like "nature intended", but don't question the logic of their desire to micro-manage every aspect of human behavior. They should be in China, Niger Delta, Russia, Brazil, and Venezuela if they really want to help.

The point of enviro safeguards is to make energy development safer, not shut it down. We have the safest. But Greenies obsessed with the USA are actually making things worse as production is moving overseas and we are being forced import more "dirty oil". Their true intentions are not what they say.

I want to say thank you, GW, for keeping going on this issue.

Oh, and, uh, is there any way to determine if seafood came from the gulf if the packaging doesn't clearly say?

“Very disturbing findings” in chemical tests of Gulf residents — Some “bleeding from the ears” or with “blood in the stool” (VIDEOS)

and the rest of the story

"The study covered only a handful of people because those are the individuals who came forward with a list of similar health problems.

Those problems included everything from trouble breathing, and bleeding from the ears, to swelling of the limbs and blood in the stool.  Some of the more unusual cases include a commercial diver who is plagued by mysterious rash and the three year son of a fisherman who is suffering from kidney stones.

Reaction to Study

University of Louisiana at Lafayette Biology Professor Paul Klerks said LEAN's study could be cause for concern.

Maybe.

"This is potentially cause for concern," Klerks said, "but it's a very small sample size of five, so it's really hard to tell with just a small sample what it really means as whole.""

Yeah, I noticed too.  An awful lot posts so far without any of that usual hateful spew which seems so -- I don't know, grossly-out-of-proportion?  Particularly when GW mentions the GOM.

Must be that the trolls actually work a M-F schedule if not totally regular hours.  Maybe there is a troll holiday that we just don't know about?  ;)

450,000 people die every year in the US as a direct result of smoking pre-packaged toxic waste and our "War on Drugs" government is making $125 million a day by taxing the sale of said toxic waste.

If you disagree with the term toxic waste check out Case Number COA-01-74 in the North Carolina Court of Appeals at http://www.aoc.state.nc.us/www/public/coa/opinions/2002/010074-1.htm

The BP disaster, Bhopal and Chernobyl were man-made accidents, and who knows what 9-11 really was, but these 450,000 dead each year are pure and simple murder for profit.

GW, thank you for all the informative digging you do on what the ptb does not want us to know about.

Did you see the 3.4 earthquake this morning in Yellowstone that has now disappeared on the USGS website? WHY DID THEY TAKE IT OFF? It was reported, but now its gone...

USGS http://earthquake.usgs.gov/earthquakes/recenteqsus/

link that reported it this morning...what earthquake?

http://www.topix.com/us/national-parks

This is not just an example of erroneous reporting, we personally actually saw the Blue box (we look every morning) indicating the location of the quake, but now it is missing from the USGS map.

Thanks for the flow George.

This will end up being worse than Bhopal or Khamisiyah.  Deliberately made far worse out of a desire to maintain the all important illusion of confidence.  One thing is certain.  It matters not the quality of the intellect that gets elected as political leadership is all about being the best at blowing corporate elites.  No wonder Palin, McConnell & Boehner are giving Obama, Reid & Pelosi such a run for the fiat.

All of this happy crappy is just like the other region you alluded to Geo.  Talk about the importance of "ideals" while screaming bloody hell that the situation may go "Stazi" and the repository of secrets just might get ransacked and the idealists will be exposed.  Back to the shining example set by Richard Koo who suggests that simply reflecting upon the actual dynamics of the situation is adverse to maintaining the illusion thereby destroying the supposed reality of stability.  Sick, corrupted, delusional, fucks.

I do believe our 1,000 pounders have grown much larger George

If Bush was still in office, which I'm glad he's not, the media would've been all over this from the beginning.  I find it odd that we never saw Gulf images on TV, no stories on gulf residents or oil infested sea life or beaches.  No outrage from so called environmentalist, nothing.  Zip.  Nada.   Another thing that is troubling is that since Obama took office we never see any horror stories of Iraq or Afghanistan.  The media has been more irresponsible in the last 2 years than at any time in my 45 years.

Oh come on. Its got nothing to do with "liberal" editors, and everything to do with corporate ownership.  Grow up and realize this left/right bullshit is just a facist distraction.  Stop playing their games.  Plenty of cover-ups all over the place, but if your explanation is to blame it on the liberal press, you have been drinking the Fox Kool-aid too long.  The real liberal press has practically no influence on anybody or anything.

Obama dragged this thing out and refused to let experts from other countries help.  Specifically Holland and Norway.   Let get bad so they could shakedown slimy BP for $30 billion, provide an excuse to shut down oil exmploration in the Gulf to benefit his puppetmasters the Saudis.  Nalco Chemicals (Corexit) in also a Illinois company and Obama supporter.

This does not fit GW template. The other night GW was comparing The Muslim Brotherhood to the Boy Scouts.

How about the media's lack of explanation of the financial crisis and why no one is getting prosecuted?

Every big story, every angle on every big story--is a conspiracy theory. The lonely part if figuring out what conspiracy to subscribe to--or even lonlier, to subscribe to none of them (not even the MSM's) because none of them seem to fit.

This is not a liberal vs conservative media issue. MSM would've swept it under asap regardless of who is in office. Their goal is to protect their masters (corporations, BOE, queen mum). Now, if bush was still in office we would all be on lockdown as it would've been portrayed as a terrorist attack, and we'd be sending troops into Yemen, Jordan, Libya, Pakistan, etc. (WWIII) by now.

Are you kidding me? Bush + anything to do with oil = speculative media frenzy. The MSM dropped this story like a bad habit the moment we stopped seeing the oil plumes, only because it was on their Dear Leader's watch. If it were on Bush's watch we'd still be hearing conspiracy theories and unhinged rants about how Dubya or Darth Cheney personally profited from the spill. It's the same reason we don't hear daily casualty reports from Iraq and Afghanistan.

I junked you because you are still in the stupid right/left paradigm..... Bush is the same as Obama is the same as Clinton is the same as ........ whoever they stick in there next.  The Rep. and Dems. just 2 wings on the exact same bird.!!!!!!  If this weren't true the dems would have repealed the bailout and the repubs would have repealed obamacare.  They are no longer our elected officials.  They work for the bankers now.  With a couple of exceptions which is not enough to matter

edit: with regards to the gulf seafood.... there is none here... the "seafood" places all over town specifically say they have no gulf catches.  Lots of sushi restaurants no longer serve gulf catch.  It is very sad here.  I'm about to go see the Galveston animal die-off here tomorrow.  I will let you know.

What you say is only partially true.  There's a real bias there.  Try and find an interview with Bush from the entire 8 years that would come anywhere near the knee pads requiring obsequious quality of Brian Williams's courtier fest with Obama?

At Slate.com they fessed up and 54 out of 55 of the writers there voted for Obama in 2008.  That's not an isolated measure of media sentiment.

Yes, laziness and corporate orientation are huge factors in media behavior but if you completely deny political bias you're being foolish to make some kind of point.

What he was trying to get across is that there are several classes of "being asleep"

1. Believe everything the TV tells you. Drool over the super bowl and fawn over night time soap operas. Believe in the "right/left" paradigm.

2. Have questions but choose to ignore them. Too afraid of what you might find out. Its just conspiracy theory, people who believe in conspiracies are crazy. Believe in the "right /left" paradigm.

3. Have questions and start to listen to what you used to consider conspiracy theories. Perhaps read a book or two on what is considered a conspiracy. Still believe in the "right/left" paradigm, though cracks are forming.

4. A slight awakening. Conspiracies don't seem so conspiratorial anymore, coincidences don't seem so coincidental. An appetite for truth develops. Reading of books and articles increases. Still believe in "right/left" paradigm though you can start to see through the cracks as they widen.

5. Awakening. a disheartening feeling sets in where you now realize that most everything is lies. The television turns into more of a noise maker than an entertainment vehicle. Start to question "right/left" as the truth in what each stands for begins to show like a black bra under a wet white t-shirt.

6. Awakening part II. The acceptance. You read a lot. Social interactions with people becomes harder as you no longer care about what happened during the monday night football match up. You almost feel adrift as you walk along with the masses and overhear the inane conversations they have. You try to talk to relatives and/or close friends about politics but it feels as if you are cheating on your brain when you try to stoop to their level. The red and blue of politics turned purple for you. So you either don't talk politics or you just listen and try to get them to understand the truth.

7. Final phase. You turn into Cognitive Dissonance and write articles that only five percent of the people on this thread can understand. Of those five percent half of them have to pull out a dictionary as they read your articles. Keep up the good work CD. Some of us have come along way after forcing their brains to read what you have to offer :)

LOL!  Funny how the lefties here like GW spewing lefty news sources always say get off the left right paradigm because this shit was all Obama's and all the Democrats.   Oil naturally seeps into the ocean from cracks in the sea bed.  The oil blowout was awful but Obama not letting others help in the clean up, especially Norwegian companies and spray that toxic disperser was the worst things.

Don't say avoid the left right pardigm then cite a bunch of leftist news sources.  ALL the news media is total shit and you idiots keep quoting their BS like it is fact.  Effing idiots talking about leftist NPR which spews total garbage.   Think for yourselves.

Thank you, GW, for the update. This issue remains on my mind.

Anecdotal. In January, I had lunch at a restaurant specializing in seafood from around the US. It's an upscale seafood restaurant chain. Lunch dishes avg $14. I looked over the long and varied menu carefully. Not one dish listed seafood from US coast Gulf of Mexico. The only GOM dish was listed as one off coast of Yucatan Mexico. The only dishes from Louisiana and Mississippi (I recall only 2 dishes) were listed as from "hatcheries"---implying hatcheries were inland man-made.  Other than that, dozens and dozens of dishes from Atlantic Ocean, New England, Pacific, and Alaska. NOT ONE dish from "Gulf of Mexico" from TX, LA, MS, AL, FL, FL Keys, or Caribbean.

It really makes no nevermind that the gulf states fish were absent. The prevailing underwater current flow has been, and will continue to, take the 400 million gallon dispersant mixed oil north and east. So, up the US coast and mid Atlantic, then eastward toward northern France, Britain, and Norway.

The Atlantic fishery is fucked, it is a question of how long it will take to get into people.

Last summer I said that this BP insanity was no ‘accident.’ I believed then and still believe this was an attack on the United Stated by foreign and domestic enemies. It has to be one of the most pernicious eugenics operations in history. I have no doubt that there are technical and scientific people running this ongoing attack which of course is a component of a much larger operation. All the political marionettes and federal ‘officials’ and front men involved should be indicted and tried for mass murder and high treason for starters.

There are a lot of corporations I stay away from. BP is easily one of them. It would be nice if one of the contributors here started a story line of corporations to stay away from and why to stay away from them.

GM/Chrysler--because they stole us blind.

Sears/Kmart/Polaroid/--because they stole us blind

GE---because they are stealing us blind

All banks--because they are stealing us blind

Wow, this is actually kind of easy.

Good point…

Just on fuel. I try to avoid the most rotten multinationals. After the Exxon Valdez  Alaska nightmare I don’t think I’ve ever bought from Exxon retail outlets. I don’t do BP either but it’s tough because they own ARCO as well. Shell is the Queen of the Netherlands and also her cuz  Queen Lizzy of England, hence a no go. I mostly go to independents which I would guess are often supplied by the evil ones but at least I go through the motions. I can tell you of a more efficacious route in my mind, which was taken by an older brother of one of my friends some time ago. During the Tet Offensive of 1968 my friend’s older brother, a helicopter gunship pilot, flew around Saigon rocketing ENCO (Now Exxon) stations.  He was disgruntled as I understand because Mr. Rockefeller had canceled his gas card. So I guess war can sometimes bring glimmers of social justice. The man was way ahead of his time.(hehehe)
