You are right on the money Rag.  More money for some of the most corrupt governmental politicians and generals in the world.  I don't think they can topple Nigeria from the throne.

The Money would go to the Mexican Government Officials which in turn would go to the Mexican Drug Cartels, which in turn would feed Drug Addicted American Environmentalists to help cope with the stress that the gusher has created. Nothing would change except it would make Mexico even more of a cesspool than it already is.

On another note...Here's the solution to sopping up oil in the Gulf.

refried beans for the pensioners.

actually, I love them.  Bought a 10 pound bag from Sam's Club for $6.35 and made them from scratch.  Never eat them from a can again.

Than I found www.waltonfeed.com and ordered me some black beans, rice, kidney beans, etc.  Absolutely delicious though if you do not cook them properly you can fuel your car with your own gas.

The garbanzos are especially good. Hummus from scratch.  Multiple flavors.  Yum. Yum.

"Beans" and "gas" in the same paragraph just leaves too much open to interpretation here. I am concerned about the fuel delivery system you speak of here. Sounds uncomfortable.

Noah,

When has that ever stopped one ot the top 3 most corrupt Governments on the planet for trying to get something for free?.

Their illustrious leader Calderon, is a sorry worthless son of a thieving bitch. How he can stand before the American people, and say the things he does, is beyond the pale.

Their police forces, and military are a horror.Their immigration policies are attrocious, and property  ownership, citizenship is all but impossible, starting a business, as a foreigner comes w/ a steep price.(a leech).

Mexico, gives nothing to the world, abd expects everything for free.

He would fit well w/ the GS gang.

We should have taken them over, and annexed them years ago......and seized all their assets.

God knows they have eaten ours for years for free.

Excuse the OT rant, but as a Texan, I have had all I want from Senior Calerfukinron.

Why the heck would the US want to assume responsibility for the other 75% of the Mexican population.  They sell their oil just like every other commodity producer does.  They can decide to keep it and not take payment.  That causes them to be better off in what way exactly?  Donkeys do not require oil.

An interesting advertisement from back in the 1920's for tractors noted that "It only eats when it works."  Isn't technology great?

Wait till South America and Cuba look for their fair share. Try to comprehend how the claims could rise when the Caribbean is impacted. Their entire livelihood is contingent on U.S. & European tourism dollars. If this spill continues long enough it will eventually make it's way to the Caribbean.

PEMEX trying to make up for Cantarell and other declines by acquiring BP's reserves.

After this debacle, no private oil company will touch this deepwater shit.  PEMEX has no ability whatsoever to go get it, only Petrobras does.  Need to marry a brazilian soon and get some land down there I guess.  The State oil companies' power continues to climb and they renegotiate with multinationals at the point of a gun.

Mexico peaked in 2004, bankrupt now...in a state of almost civil war.  Clusterfuck of a country.

To fix all Mexicos problems you'd have to put a long list of people against the wall and shoot them. We don't do that anymore - the trick is to win their hearts and minds. Trouble is they have already won the hearts and minds of our politicians. They are in awe of the looting and class perks and want the same system here.

Don't you find it strange that the most dangerous city in the world is right on the border of the US (Juarez). We could solve Mexico's drug problem by simply not buying drugs. I doubt if all those sanctimonious former hippies would agree to that. It's ok for drug rings there to decapitate people and throw their bodies in the desert as long as babacool can get his daily hit.

Don't sweat, at some point before the cost of the damages and lawsuits/liabilities etc become clear, GS (backed by Team -O and the UK government) would sell the deal to some wealthy sovereign funds (most likely Chinese or Asian) to take over BP, and probably at a premium to market. This time (as opposed to the CNOOC-Unocal deal) will be blessed by Peolosi and Team-O. That by the way was what Cameron suggested to Obama and why Cameron came out supporting O for his "tough" stance on BP. Let the chinese take over the liabilities if they want BP. Save our pensioners, tough luck for the SWF and their pensioners. And most importantly, the deal would mean the SWF/Asia would be writing a phenomenally fat cheque to GS just after they are taken private.

BP is an easy target in the current international fairground sideshow alley. Many people are taking pot-shots to get a prize. Mexico is a perfect nation with no problems. Its pristine environment should not be sullied by the presence of evil foreign corporations. Any claims of compensation must be heard in fairness and balance. The matters of jurisprudence brought up by this case are complex. A good judge is required.
