I have a sneaking suspicion Al-Kaider, the Dirty Tricks Brigade for Disaster Capitalism, is being run out of an office near the University of Chicago.

(Not that I'm a fan of CFR darling Naomi Klein. I'm not, but this thread made me think of her book. IMHO Al-Kaider's doin' it Chicago Style.)
Continuing claims dropped about 128,000, to 5.1M. But the tally for emergency unemployment compensation, people who have exhausted their regular benefits, rose by 142,000 to 4.4M. And that last figure was at only 1.5M this time last year.
It all just points up to the fact that people who have lost their jobs are having an especially hard time finding new ones. “Extrapolating out the cessation of job losses into job gains is, at this time, a stretch,” Miller Tabak’s Dan Greenhaus writes. “We have not yet seen any indication within the continuing claims data that people are finding jobs.”
“The bigger issue at this point is how quickly people getting jobs, not losing them,” he writes, and notes that total continuing claims rose about 20,000 to 9.9M, “barely off the record high set just two weeks prior.”
