A Modest Proposal

Tyler Durden's picture

The artist said that the more complicated an idea, the more worthless. So here is a very simple bizarro world thought experiment:

What would happen if...

  1. Everyone in America maxed out their credit cards (on average about 4) to pay as much of US debt as possible (link)...
  2. Everyone refused to pay their credit card bill when invoiced.

Net result: America pays off the debts incurred to rescue the banks?

It's like (/is) something from game theory.

If the majority owes unrepayable debt then it becomes "mad" for *you* not to also be liable for unrepayable debt.

Personally I won't be bailing out the UK (or US for that matter). I've just bought everything I need in the last year (barring possibly an MG42) and will now sit back, working not very hard at all - in the full knowledge that by the time the debt-bods would have got to me the world will have completely collapsed anyway.

Now *THAT'S* a genuine recommendation.

Maybe it could wait until the next election cycle, a PAC could be formed. With no limits now on campaign spending, it could all be funneled through the PAC in the form of numorous attack ads;

The PAC could perhaps then make donations to help pay off the debt with fake money, while simultaneously messing with the election.

Well, there seems to be about 1,600,000,000 credit cards in use in the US, and the debt is 14 trillion, so that means each card would have to be charged up to $8750.00. Not sure that is possible right now (this, BTW, does not include debit cards).

THE FEDERAL RESERVE ACT

FINAL WARNING: A HISTORY OF THE NEW WORLD ORDER

http://www.the7thfire.com/new_world_order/final_warning/federal_reserve_act.htm

...

"In 1919, John Maynard Keynes, later an advisor to Franklin D. Roosevelt, wrote in his book The Economic Consequences of Peace:

"Lenin is to have declared that the best way to destroy the capitalist system was to debauch the currency ... By a continuing process of inflation, governments can confiscate secretly and unobserved, an important part of the wealth of their citizens ... As the inflation proceeds and the real value of the currency fluctuates wildly from month to month, all permanent relations between debtors and creditors, which form the ultimate foundation of capitalism, become so utterly disordered as to be almost meaningless..."

Except that Zelaya was overthrown in a military coup by a bunch of gang-bangers trained at the School of the Assassins in Ft. Benning, GA.

Here's the bottom line:  those who own Obama and Clinton wanted their fucking sweatshops in Honduras, and Zelaya told them to screw themselves.  So they came for him.

The rest of this stupidity is rhetoric about marxism from someone who wouldn't know Marx if he walked up and jacked him in the mouth.

I think we need a better plan.

We know that credit cards are just another tool for the banks to sell credit, which they can bundle for sale.

So instead of maxing your credit cards, deprive them of an asset to sell and deprive them of interest income. Pay off your cards in full every month (they hate that kind of customer). I pay off mine in full :D

Don't have excess cash sitting in bank accounts, for them to leverage and gamble in their casino trades. Make it work for you instead.

And (I hope I don't need to say this to zero hedge readers - but you never know - there may be someone with less brains than muffin the mule) don't use the bank's service for your trades. Don't let them be your portfolio manager. And especially don't let them be trustee over your assets.

In other words deprive them of as much oxygen as possible.

Thu, 01/13/2011 - 22:53 | 875189 HungrySeagull
HungrySeagull's picture

I pay mine in full each month, even if I carry a balance; my bank just says F-it, you dont have anything due this date, come back next month. I make another fat payment....

and the pet wheel goes round and round in the cage.

The ONE thing you cannot do anything with is Student Loans. I probably an quite content to pay 30 dollars a month for the rest of my life on it and never see it paid off.

However over time that becomes something like 400 a year going out and I would for one like to put a cork in that leaky hole by the dam.

Don't get me wrong, I own PM's myself. The reality of it is, history is a bitch, bitchez.

"I want to put myself on record against procedure of this kind and against the use of such methods in passing legislation affecting millions of lives and billions of dollars. It seems to me that under this bill thousands of small banks will be crushed and wiped out of existence, and that money and credit control will be still further concentrated in the hands of those who now hold the power."

http://users.rcn.com/mgfree/Economics/goldHistory.html

That could have been 2008, but it wasn't. It can also be the next one coming, sooner or later, like a dog on a chain, they gonna run out of slack. If the banks can get the government to cough up as much cash as needed, what makes you think your gold is safe?

If you can't exchange it, and to have it a crime, I'm sure they will take other property due to your "possession". You know that's a TBTF's kinda game, sell the sheeple all the gold and silver they can stand at very inflated prices. Once the dollar has been trashed and all PM's sold into private hands, get congress to outlaw it, create a new currency backed by those PM's and start all over again.

They have a history, and it tells us that if things go bad the rules are changed. That's what they did after 29, that's what they did in 08 and they will do it again.

Well who can blame people for feeling like this? You feel robbed, cheated and deceived. The first impulse is to get back at the people who are causing your pain. However this is not the way. An entirely new monetary system has to be put into place and people including the wealthy have to accept that loss is inevitable. There is no way to shovel out of this much debt. There is too much of it that is both known and unknown. People will rise into new roles if they are as good as innovating as they were in the old system. If they are no longer able then someone else will take their place. More bad debt on top of bad debt makes no sense. It doesn't matter who, in an inflationary scheme like the one that we have lived through over the past thirty years. Someone always takes that loss. The net consumer country always goes broke. This is the problem. The solution is in a new system that encourages innovation and advancement at the betterment of society not the cost of it.

btw,

Unleashing moral hazard on institutions is one thing, unleashing it on the populus is something completely different.

Is that why we've never seen Obama's birth certificate, he was never gifted to the state? Sorta off the Matrix and legally positioned to wreak havoc on the US without recourse?

I like that legal parlance is treated as divine, and somehow discovered independent of human endeavors, but this ignores the physics of how power works. There's within one's legal rights, and then there's no son, you'll not be using that loophole. Ask Robert Kahre.

I suppose if enough are educated on the intricacies of divine law, mass social expectance could eventually morph this into practice, but the profession will need to crib note the basics and focus the message if this is ever to occur within the next several generations. Good stuff, at least what I've read thus far, but I'll play my Kahre card a bit more medieval chess like.

Like most Americans, you play the game and realize if the state gets too intrusive you have a decision to make about applying the law of Smith and Wesson. What scares me, is all the numbers I see point to this happening in mine or the next generation.

2. With all your puny might, stood on the deck and blew into the sail?

Isn't this functionally the same as Bernancchio is trying to pull off?

How will the debt be ultimately extinguished? Who will be left holding the bag?

Pass the parcel, but the ChiComs have already passed it back to the Fed (read: US taxpayer).

Who's next?

Well, so far, NO-ONE, but your thought expiriment just ultimately redound on the Fed via the inevitable bail-out of the CC Companies, no?

An' I don't mind 'em switchin' sides,
An' standin' up for things they believe in.
When they're runnin' down my country, man,

Yeah, walkin' on the fightin' side of me.
Runnin' down the way of life,
Our fightin' men have fought and died to keep.
If you don't love it, leave it:
Let this song I'm singin' be a warnin'.
If you're runnin' down my country, man,
You're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

I read about some squirrely guy,
Who claims, he just don't believe in fightin'.
An' I wonder just how long,
The rest of us can count on bein' free.
They love our milk an' honey,
But they preach about some other way of livin'.
When they're runnin' down my country, hoss,
They're walkin' on the fightin' side of me.

The geniuses who thought up the disUnited States really had their poo together.

Here we now have 350,000,000 people, and growing (barring a nuclear or biochemical, or asteroidal Black Swan event) who don't much care about each other, organized in a way that a national government, basically 700 men and women controlling an army, navy, and air force of millions of their fellow 'mericans to obviate the possibility of a citizens' revolution.

To paraphrase one of our most esteemed investment shock jocks, "They can do nothing! Nothing!"

Ah but most share the unifying belief, that they care for themselves and the US allows them do that about as well as anywhere.  At least without fundamental change, of moving elsewhere, which most can't tolerate or undertake for a variety of reasons.

Or, simply do not buy anything other than necessities for a year and only with cash.

Let's talk in a year. I'll be waiting for your smoke signals.

Can we just toss all our credit card limits together and buy China?  Or Ireland would make a great backyard.

Market already creating a solution by bidding

up the price of gold until it covers the

total money suply. This is the preferd way

by the market to cope with debt problems

for thousend of years.Gold is the only way

to settle debt because it's a financial asset

unlike paper money wich is a liability. When one

pay debt(IOU) with more debt, the debt hole

(vortex) gets exponentialy(!!) bigger and bigger

beacause of interest payments.

We are witnessing revaluation and is still in it's early

stages.Gold was and will be the ultimate

debt eliminator.

Anyone coming up with hocky, pocky solutions

is misinforming the people and a danger

for their economic survival.

Fuck the paper pushers and the trolls.

What happens to you if you max out and charge off depends on many factors, including the state you live in, who the original creditors were, who the junk debt buyers are, and whether you have any particularly visible assets or income. It's typically not as bad as you might think, and "informal bankruptcy" is being increasingly used by those who don't want to pay legal fees or subject themselves to the vagaries of the federal system. Handle things right, and you emerge from the other side of a 4-6 year period of running silent and deep with hardly a scar to show for it. That's not to say some people don't get caught in one trap or another, but for them there's always formal bankruptcy.

One poster wondered about debt being destroyed ... it's destroyed every day by the passage of the statute of limitations, or by bankruptcy, or by just plain dying without ever having paid it.

If you want a lot of details that I haven't gone through here, I've written a book.

I'm in!

Better yet--since last week's Ibanez ruling, why not just stop paying the mortgage? If each state passed a law similar to that which VA is now considering, few homes could be legally foreclosed upon. If few homes could be legally foreclosed upon, then the 25% of homeowners who are underwater will most-likely be the first to stop paying their mortgage-and the domino effect would soon be in play.

Any states experiencing budget deficits should consider what their books would look like if their citizens paid their taxes, bought food, paid their utilities, etc. with the money afforded them by suddenly not having a mortgage.

Bank error in the states' favor.....

(Pay your taxes, not your mortgage!)
