More Middle-East Escalation: Israeli Planes Under Fire Over Lebanon
From Reuters:
Israeli military aircraft came under anti-aircraft fire over Lebanon on Tuesday but there were no casualties, an Israeli security source said.
The source said the fire was aimed at Israeli planes on reconnaissance flights over southern Lebanon. An Israeli military spokesman had no immediate comment.
Tension has risen in the region since nine people were killed aboard a Turkish-backed aid ship heading for the Gaza Strip when Israeli commandos seized the vessel in Mediterranean waters on Monday.

The government of Israel, its institutions, its markets, its wealth, were created by hardworking Israelis. The land may have been "given" to them by some UN declaration and/or previous British empire shenanigans, but they only got to keep it by fighting several wars over a stretch of twenty years against neighbors intent on killing every one of them. They have a state now because they fought for it, and made it work.
The palestinians have proven themselves incapable of any such feat, over and over and over again. When "given" territory, they comprehensively ruin it inside of a few weeks, and the whole place becomes dependent on foreign aid.
As to their perrenial dependence on the rest of the world: Keep in mind that the whole flotilla headed for Gaza contained in its holds only about a quarter of a day's worth of supplies for the anarchic crazy zone called Gaza. Four times that passes through the checkpoints towards Gaza, daily, on average. There is a well established process for inspecting it to weed out supplies that would help kill Israelis, but everything else passes easily. Both the nutters on the ships, and the government of Turkey know this. Their goal wasn't to provide aid so much as to try to rip a hole in the ongoing joint Israeli-Egyptian maritime blockade of Gaza. Yeah, that's right, Egypt and Israel are on the same page about the need of keeping weapons and weapons components out of Gaza.

well protest in a foreign country infront of people pointing weapons at you doesn't exactly win you the genius of the year award. Sort of like hiking the Iraq/Iranian border and being shocked that you were captured when wandering into their territory....just seems plain ignorant to me.

That's an interesting article Chumba. I've often thought about deception practices in large movements like that. It's a sideshow and a trick. They let it work a couple times and let it fail a million times and keep harping on the few times it works and the purity of it all.
It's like letting a 7 year old win at chess and then releasing him to the larger world where he gets pawned over and over. It is even more suspicious to me that it's done to fucking death by hollywood. They will likely be doing movies in 50 years where mother teresa was some famous rock star that everyone loved and respected deeply when in reality she just busted her ass her entire life while few people cared. This is pretty much how World Wars begin and begin.

No one in Europe worried much about the constant shower of missiles from Gaza in the past. No one in Europe said a word when North Korea torpedoed and slaughtered South Koreans on the high seas. No one objected when the Iranians hijacked a British ship and humiliated the hostages.
We ourselves seem to be getting a sort of novel pass for executing scores of suspected terrorists — and anyone in their vicinity — in our new, stepped-up Predator drone assassinations.
But the Western and Islamic worlds have a preexisting furor at the Jewish state that can be tapped at will by almost any pro-radical-Palestinian group clever enough to do proper P.R. after a desired asymmetrical confrontation. The fallout from Sharon’s visit to the Temple Mount, the distortions around the 2002 terrorist storming of the Church of Nativity, the 2006 Lebanon war — over time, these incidents do their part, in weird fashion, to incur hatred for a liberal democracy while creating sympathy for a theocratic thugocracy like Hamas.
What explains this preexisting hatred, which ensures denunciation of Israel in the most rabid – or, to use the politically correct parlance, “disproportionate,” terms? Perhaps the outrage reflects simple realpolitik — 350 million Arab Muslims versus 7 million Israelis. Perhaps it is oil: half the world’s reserves versus Israel’s nada. Perhaps it is the fear of terror: draw a cartoon or write a novel offending Islam, and you must go into hiding; defame Jews and earn accolades. Perhaps it is anti-Semitism, which is as fashionable on the academic Left as it used to be among the neanderthal Right.
Perhaps there is also a new sense that the United States at last has fallen into line with the Western consensus, and so is hardly likely to play the old lone-wolf supporter of Israel in the press or at the U.N.
At this point, it doesn’t much matter — as this latest hysterical reaction reminds us, much of the world not only sides with Israel’s enemies but sides with them to such a degree as to suggest that, in any existential moment to come, the world either will be indifferent or will be on the side of the side of Israeli’s enemies.
