He will say how deeply he loves his country and that all the Egyptians are his 'children' and he is sad to have to 'retire', but that he leaves his best man in charge to make sure the people don't 'suffer'

Boss Mubarak: Omar, I can't get a days work done for all the good citizens coming in here to harass me about crime in Tahrir Square. Some even go so far as to accuse Tammany of connivance in this so-called rampant criminality. What am I to do? I can't have this. Something has to be done.
Omar the Butcher: What do you have in mind?
Boss Mubarak: I don't know. I think maybe we should hang someone.
Omar the Butcher: Who?
Boss Mubarak: No one important, necessarily. Average men will do. Back alley amusers with no affiliations.
Omar the Butcher: How many?
Boss Mubarak: Three or four.
Omar the Butcher: Which?
Boss Mubarak: Four.

Mubarak invites his murder as he announces he will live and die in Egypt.  "I will not leave Egypt until I am buried in the ground".  Guess he didn't go to Germany after all.

More protests, looking to put his head on a spear.  Bad.

The attempt to incite anger at all the embarrassment from "outside" Egypt will not work. Unnacceptable to Arab street.  Badly played.  Hope for military coup vs full scale anarchy as street will errupt and explodes.

Yeah, Mubarak just said he wants to die in Egypt. I guess he is a man determined to meet his fate.

This narrows down the outcome to two final scenarios:

1) Military crushes the revolt, killing thousands of Egyptians

2) Protesters resort to full blown violence and overthrow the regime

Either way, the long-term outcome of both scenarios will result in Egypt being taken over by the most anti-American regime west of the Tigris River

And I would add that a military smashdown does not end this REVOLUTION any more than the July Days ended the one back in 1917.

China Drought Global Food Crisis to Trigger Many More Egypts

The Chinese government has reportedly decided to spend $1 billion to battle the drought plaguing huge areas in the north, as wheat prices continued their climb and the UN warned of serious consequences for the winter harvest.

The drought is the worst in six decades in many areas, and has left a swathe of grain-producing regions reeling from a lack of any significant rainfall in more than three months.

The money will be spent to divert water to affected areas, construct emergency wells and irrigation facilities, and take other measures, the State Council, or the Cabinet, said in a statement on Wednesday after an executive meeting chaired by Premier Wen Jiabao.

The move was included in a 10-measure package to spur grain production and tackle the persisting drought, which poses a grave threat to wheat production.

The worst affected areas are shown below:

Eight major grain-producing provinces, including Shandong, Jiangsu, Henan, Hebei and Shanxi, have been affected. Together they produce more than 80 percent of China’s winter wheat. By Wednesday, a total of 7.8 million hectares of winter wheat had been affected by the drought in the eight provinces, accounting for 42.4 percent of their total wheat-sown area, according to the Ministry of Agriculture.

The State Council warned the situation could worsen, saying rainfall across northern China for the foreseeable future would remain “persistently below normal levels and major rivers will continue to be generally dry”. Some 2.57 million people and 2.79 million livestock are suffering from drinking water shortages, official figures showed. The UN’s Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) also issued a warning on Tuesday over the impact on the winter wheat crop.

The situation in the regions could become critical if temperatures dropped further this month and a spring drought followed the winter one, the FAO said. Footage from CCTV on Wednesday showed withered crops in parched farmland in Shandong. Wheat prices in China have also been rising rapidly in the last few months. Average flour prices in the country rose more than 8 percent in January from the previous two months, the FAO said.

It's almost hard to believe in the logical conclusion to all this.  There's nothing new under the sun, and it has all been played out before, just not with iCrap and the internets and... and... the sheer NUMBERS of people potentially affected by the outcome.

Against my own nature, I am planting and scrimping and saving and preparing for...  what?.  I don't know.  Just, Something.  Something different in terms what anyone currently alive has ever seen before.

But still:  To actually live to see a time like that which is coming?  A curse and a privilege.  I tell the kids in class that things look to become potentially difficult.  Harder.  More character-bearing.  But in the end, if your mind is right, and your body sound, these are the times that define generations, even cultures.

"May you live in interesting times..."

Absolutelly foolish not to prepare, for anything. I give you couple of examples. During the recent "climate change" induced cold front that hit the south, my small town found itself lan locked (snow) with no electricity, and natural gas line could not keep up with the demand, so the utility rolled sporadic shut offs of the gas (most homes use gas to heat). Not a good thing at 0 degrees. So, out came the sleeping bags and hot water bags from storage and the coleman stove. Boil some water, fill the water bags, throw in the slepping bag. Repeat once per family member. We all slept toasty. Score one for dad. Week after, a nearby refinery announced that they had sustained heavy damage and would not be able to supply gasoline to the local stations for a couple of days. Population panicked and we had lines in the gas station. Out comes the 30 gallons of stabil laced gasoline out of storage. Tied everyone up for work commutes until we gas stations went back to normal. Fuel cans back full and stabil added. Score second touchdown for old dad.

sure, just tune into CNBC at about 4:15 and you'll get all the propaganda you can handle.  Mubarak speaks as the market closes at 4 (even though we've been waiting for hours, just like last time).  The market rises suddenly into close like yesterday.  Then the CNBC propaganda starts about why this is "all good for stocks."  We might even see the White House or Shillary Cunton speak sometime between 4:15 and when Cramer comes on at 6pm to reinforce that now is the time to buy buy buy....

The people in Egypt just want freedom from a dictator that is all. Besides who cares about the middle east anyway? We have an open border, burdensome governemnt, a massive military industrial complex,an anti gun president, massive debt, and crazy neo cons(Palin,Hannity,Beck,Savage,Bachman) who want war with Iran, liberals who want big govt and contiuation of the welfare state. Foreign military aid is welfare. We should end this entitlemnt at once. Israel has 500 nukes, powerful military, vibrant economy and we still give them militay aid while no nation in the mideast will invade that nation. We should stop being globocop, and bring our troops home. We need the return of a non-internventionst foreign policy.

Funny you should say it's not time. Because it's TIME.

From now 2-11-2011 until 10-28-2011 is a 260 day period of chaotic change. This period will be chaotic because the vast majority (98%)  do not have a clue as to why this is happening and that being the case this time we enter will tend to generate "negative" manifestations.  The crazier people become the more chaotic  the events will become. This period is NOT being caused by the normal drivers of human events ...  the movement of planets around the sun..   the cycles that people are used to  as "normal" come from that..  What we have at hand now can be considered a galactic (fractal sacred math) influence and is NOT connected directly to astronomical alignments.

HomoPsychoticus is dying.

Ramp up to infinite change in a day or an hour or a second 11/11/11. The lowest arc of the time shell that follows fib sequences for it's intensity ratios.

Markets are going hit the eject button on the plane and it's time to ride the crazy chair. My guess is inda gets really choppy next week. Then probably china next.

That's ballsy, trite and vindictive.  I like this guy.  He knows the seething peons will all act out now and end up getting riddled, crushed and burned. Then the survivors get to starve.  Just his own little goodbye present to those that bruised his ego.

Give 'em hell Hosni! He'd make a redneck proud!

I don't even think the crowd will accept Suliman. They want to clean house. They're also looking at Tunisia and seeing the results of a 'transitional solution' where an old crony takes over after the leader goes. Tunisians are still revolting and turmoil is persisting

They are saying that they will do whatever is necessary to ensure the peaceful transition...

which means they are positioning to be able frame all continued protest as a barrier to peace, which is something the US will gladly get behind.

That is all assuming that the place doesn't burn to the ground in the next 24hrs.

What we saw tonight with Mubarak’s speech was a sham. Nothing has changed; this will lead to further chaos. Instead of telling the people he was going to stay through September, perhaps he should have told them he will restore the internet and give them back their Facebook:
