The Internet retorts that it is even more concerned by spread of disinformation by NBC/GE subsidiaries.

Can we stop dignifying these people by calling them "mainstream."  Nobody I know believes anything these guys say anymore and that includes my grandparents in their 80's. They have zero credibility with most people.

The term should be the "Closed Media" in contrast to the internet which is the "Open Media," as anyone can produce and distribute content.  This would be a much more accurate classification.

Beyond scared shitless:

- their ratings continue to deteriorate

- they are always getting scooped. Wait, that's not accurate, they may actually get the information earlier in some cases, but actively surpress it.

- Until, they can't, because of sites like ZH. Must be a bitch being front-runned by those goddamn anonymous bloggers, and then having to grudgingly report on things like HFT, etc way after the fact.

- In the deep of night, laying awake wide-eyed staring at the ceiling, it must hit them, "We're irrelevant". How can we compete with something that is real-time, interactive to readership, data instead of soundbites, hyperlinked to sources, additional background, etc. Fuck. The proletariat has access to all our secrets, they are getting better educated than we are. Fuck.

Wasn't it Talking Points Memo that discovered the e-mails between MTP/David Gregory and the office of South Carolina Governor, Mark Sanford in which; "MTP attempted to sell Sanford on the proposition that; "David Gregory, the host of NBC's Meet the Press. In courting Sanford's office, Gregory wrote that "coming on Meet The Press allows you to frame the conversation as you really want to."

Perhaps MTP/NBC/GE believes that since it was Brokaw that hosted this episode rather than Gregory everything changes on this score.

What about Tom Friedman's disinformation on the war in Iraq, or on economics in his book?  As if that is not enough there is Judy Miller's disinformation on Iraq, both of whom worked for the same MSM newspaper.  Next there are the wackos on cable with tons of political and economic disinformation.  Let's not forget the radio talk show hosts ...

And these guys are worried about the Internet.  Um-mm, sounds like that don't want any competition.  Let alone honest debate.

Me, I rarely read the NY times anymore because of Miller and Friedman.  There are lots of talk show hosts that I never listen to and CNBC what a joke.

hahahaha.. Don't trust them in the liberal media.  BTW, we are #1 on cable.

Fact is that NewsCorp & GE are good friends and the majors, especially in TV/print conglomerates work very closely indeed and their fear is indicated by the actions that all of these outlets are undertaking looking closely at the who, what, when and where. I suspect that a major print outlet will attempt to start an "on the blogs" page before too long to both compete and undermine their competition as they fight for survival & relevancy.

I find it somewhat ironic ironic that we are supposedly vulnerable to misinformation on the internet but that we are not vulnerable to misinformation from our political leaders, teachers, churches, corporate heads, financial managers or anyone else who is considered to be socially acceptable and favorable to the interests of the United States of America.  We are only vulnerable to the sewage of unfiltered information because we have spent our entire lives swimming in it.  The internet is helping to undermine the "approved messages" that are floating on the surface of the sewage...

This makes me sick.  The internet is the greatest invention of the last fifty years.  It democratizes information.  It frightens the elite be providing an opportunity for repressed voices to speak out.   Can anyone imagine the access to information that would have been available to the masses were the internet to have been around before and during the Great Depression?  We would have likely sacked the Federal Reserve and both politicla parties.  And, that is exactly a possibility today.  The internet is no different than life.  There are sources of misinformation without the internet.  That they have a broader voice now means what?  The press is completely complicit in this economic collapse and now they have some competition for the minds of Americans.  And because of that many news sources will not make it.  That's called free choice.  People no longer value Friedman and Brokaw and other mindless boobs who heretofore hoodwinked society.  So, their answer?  Lash out and attempt to marginalize those who threaten their establishment elitism.  Who the f8ck are they to determine what is newsworthy?  Society determines it.  And because they aren't listening, they are paying an awful price.  Democracy in action is GRAND!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The traditional media outlets are increasingly irrelevant. It becoming painfully obvious that the news that they report is passed through numerous filters before reaching the public. Not just what they cover and how they present the story, but also in what they chose not to cover.

How many newspapers out there are primarily running wire stories? Who decides what is and isn't news?

ABC seems to be awful cozy with the White House. Each night MSNBC and Fox roll out Olbermann and O'Reilly to hurl shit at each other like monkeys in a cage, providing the legions of useful idiots with talking points. CNBC seems to be OK with Kneale presenting a moving average crossover as proof that the recession is over. Are you fucking kidding me?

Is it any wonder that people have to migrate to blogs and other non-traditional outlets to find out what is really going on?
