Net Net: Gold Surges To Record, Stocks Close Red

Tyler Durden's picture

Ave Shalom, those who are above to create their own gold standard, spit in the face of central bankers worldwide, burn linen "money" and laugh all the way to the post US-restructuring bank salute you. Everyone else - there is QE 3 through 3 trillion. Stocks end the day at the lows when priced in the one true currency.

S&P:

Gold - new all time record above $1,290:

I notice every time CNBC shows Gold on the teevee, they show bars and bars and more bars.  Never coins, or a single bar.  As if to lure isn't into believing "No need to rush, there's tons of gold bars out there.  Relax, everything is fine.  Tons of supply."

If the general public was aware of fractional oz coins then you would see many of the serfs throwing $150-300 a paycheck at 1/10 coins and such; possibly even getting out of their 401k/IRAs all together.

When the public thinks in terms of huge bricks of gold weighing many ounces, the public will believe that gold is too expensive for them to invest in.

All I know is that the neighbors in my hood (ones who laughed at me when I was SCREAMING to buy gold in the upper 700s) are now asking some simple questions about gold.

F*ck fiat!

HAHAHA.  I still am trying to encourage the board of my company to stop pissing away profits by matching 401ks.  Give it to the employees as added pay, but stop flsuing it down the deriv toilet.  I guess I need some more charts from Zerohedge and need to do a full-blown presentation or something.

On second though, forgetaboutit.

.ist rule when looking..dont look. go out do what you like to do, make yourself happy and dont wait on anyone to do it for you. You got to love yourself first and be happy with YOUR moment. Life term is limited and shortened by use so its not a man , money or a goal to be seeking but the moment and your FULL presence in it.

Best wishes to you all, we know whats facing us.

I noticed these patterns with cnbcs also...

1. When gold is tanking, they flash it front and center of the screen. And show the price ticker frequently.

2. When gold is rising, they rarely show the price ticker.

3. When the dow is tanking, they harp on the "fair value".

4. When the dow is rising, you don't hear shit about "fair value".

If I were bored, and so inclined I'd actually count the difference. But

I'm not so I won't.

Could it be that the low volume is about catch up with equities.Maybe the bankers do not want to miss a parabolic in gold and have to sell equities to particiapte while smutaneoisly covering gold shorts.
It must be scaring them that there is a very simple way to not participate going long markets and still betting against the banking system by going long gold and staying relatively immune from market manipulation in equities.

Protip: If you have a local dealer, exchange private phone numbers with them for the day after they close up the shop, due to this 1099 idiocy.

I've bought at record highs a few times (payday always seem to miss the dips while the coin store is closed on wed. where there's been a short dip or two).

When I do buy the high, I like to note (in a voice loud enough to catch the attention of people selling that day) that I'm buying it while it is still so incredibly cheap.

Next, I wave my fednotes around to display their fragile, worthless nature, in contrast to the solid coins I've traded them for.

Then I laugh at the dealer for being "stupid" enough to take them in exchange foe something real.

So far, I've never felt dumb for these purchases.

So, uh, your dealer still gave you his private number even after you laughed at him everytime you stopped by?  Interesting.

See, tech will lead us...somewhere.

Gold ain't for speculation, it's for wealth preservation.  Besides, what would you do with the money?  Presumably it's money you don't need -- until you need it.

Think of it as shorting a few $ vs. gold.  Aim is to cover cheaper later.

GOT PVC???????????????

Finally, through current US Gov't FinCen regulations, and thanks to both the Patriot Act and recent
(2008) regulatory changes by the Dept of the Treasury, the government seems to be tracking gold purchases by individuals as small as $3000 per year per person. Don't tell me this is to prevent money laundering by drug lords.

I used to think the fed would not go door-to-door and/or lock down safety deposit boxes; I still believe that.

But it occurs to me, that is not how the fed would go about it in these nanny-nazi times.  They would send you a polite letter asking you to turn in the PMs they know you bought to your nearest, say, Chase Bank or post office.

They will generously give you a timeline.

If you don't, you will get flagged for whatever they can think of - an audit here, a garnishment there, refunds withheld . . .

Something like that, is how they would do it.

They would create an electronic obligation, like you owe them taxes.

Nah way easier to tax transactions on it.  You let people know that and a few people will either stash it or try to cross the border with it and leave permanently if they have enough money.  Ideally they want that money in country so slapping a tax on it serves the same effect, or just make it so it's hard to make a local market in it.  Not much wealth in gold anyway, most American's don't own any aside from jewelry (which is crap 14k), and among the gold owners I daresay most haven't moved most of their assets into it.  I mean sure I have but I'm a nut, ask anyone :)

The richer plumb is going after the 401k's and pensions.  I'll only start worring about Uncle Sugar eyeballing my gold after he has feasted upon those.

At least one of the coin shops where I buy Au, it is cash, and no name on the invoice.  They do not know who I am.

Buy from Tulving, et al, will be a different story.

Also, these FinCen regulations may indeed get down to the coin shops.  In the words of long-missed Gordon_Gekko:

If Uncle Sugar is desperate enough he will ask where that missing cash went.  After all in the era of digital money massive cash transaction might make an auditor start asking questions, remember guilty until proven innocent.  Hell if Uncle Sugar wanted to he could track IP address to this site and figure out who the gold bugs are.  But really we don't matter in that scheme of things.  Indivdually we don't have much gold, even collectively Americans don't.  What we do have is mostly in jewlery and they can "confiscate"  that by having better prices on reselling it.  And if things get bad enough people will sell their jewelry, to buy gas or make rent or eat.  While I'm not happy about the gov being able to do anything it wants I'm also trying to be realistic about what it will do.

Now all bets are off if it goes total police state.  However under that scenario the gov will seize all wealth in all forms from the average citizen and dissidents will go to re-eduation camps.  In that case wealth preservation is nice but it will be more about getting the hell out of Dodge with your skin then making a profit.

Screw the government and their tracking. They screwed up the money so we protect ourselves the best way possible. If they pass a law making gold ownership illegal then it's a different ball game...until that time comes they are whistling past the graveyard, starting rumors, using scare tactics, jawboning, and pissing in the wind.

Let's face it, if you are in the right location, you can simply drop cash on the counter and take up to $10,000 in gold or silver home with you immediately. No forms, just the name "CASH" or "Mr. & Mrs. John Smith" on the invoice. Bring along a spouse or two and leverage the bang for your trip.

Not that I would do this, but there are those who might not want any trace of their ownership of PMs to show up on any records.

Maybe your local coin dealer operates this way.

I know people who have done this exact thing at places here in Cascadia that I won't name for fear of creating 'problems' for them. They ask your name for the receipt. They don't ask you to prove it, as they rightly believe that Americans are honest people whose veracity should not be challenged. And since they are close to the source of supply, their markup is acceptable. (About 5% on silver rounds)

You must do this in person, of course. Shipping by USPS means there's an insurance trail. FedEx and UPS don't do PM shipments for insurance reasons.

So it pays to drive a little to save a lot (of privacy.) We should NEVER have been driven to this sorry state of affairs. But when you play with Fascists, you'd better know the rule book AND the street rules.

The fact is, nobody knows how much silver we still have, if any. I don't even tell myself, for fear that I might blurt it out to the wrong person. But if I DID have any silver, it would be in a safe place that's not a bank or a piece of paper promising some silver.
