That photo is consistent with a hollow point handgun round in the upper forehead.
When you shoot someone with a .50 BMG, a significant part of the body is obliterated. Ahead shot would not leave any part of the head.
Ever seen what a semi-truck does to a deer when the truck is doing 80? A .50 BMG has a similar interaction with the human body.

The flag on the soldiers uniform is backwards from the way the United States Army wears the flag. Therefore this picture looks to have been flipped. If that is the case then the bullet is above the correct eye.

The senior us official also says the White House received 3 sets of photos yesterday. The photos included:
1. Photos of OBLs body at a hanger after he was brought back to Afghanistan. This is the most recognizable with a clear picture of his face. The picture is gruesome because he has a massive open head wound across both eyes. It’s very bloody and gory.
2. Photos from the burial at sea on the USS Carl Vinson. Photos of OBL before the shroud was put on and then wrapped in the shroud.
3. There are photos of the raid itself that include photos of the two dead brothers, one of OBLs dead son (adult adolescent, maybe approx 18 yrs old) and some of the inside scene of the compound.
The official says the challenge is that the picture that includes the most recognizable image of OBLs face – from the hangar in Afghanistan – is so gruesome and mangled its not appropriate for say the front page of the newspaper. On the other hand, this is the one that is most identifiable as him.

Considering the fact that over 1 million mostly innocent people have been killed in this adventure, I think no photo can be more "gruesome" than that fact.

That looks consistent with what you'd expect for a released death pic on the chopper on the way back from a mission.
Sure they'd push his face back together a little to make it look OBL in life. In the low light image you can't see the graphic blood, and the photo angle selected for release avoids the left side and top of the head which spares the children and nervous persons.
It'd be pretty stupid to fake his death and then have OBL pop up in another video next month holding up the Tokyo Times and their new TEPCO revelations as proof of life.

Do you know what I like to notice in media people? Eyebrows. I read an article once that said that the perfectly prepared "media" eyebrows come to a point at the corner of the eye and you can draw a straight line from the tip of the eyebrow through the corner of the eye and to the tip of the nose.

2. Why is this SF soldier shaven if he was doing a tour in Afghanistan? From what I understand almost all SF units there have full on beards so that they are less easily identified.
