NJ Supreme Court Finds Source Shield Law Does Not Apply To Bloggers

Tyler Durden's picture

In another direct stab at the last remnant of truly independent (if often times quite incompetent) media, the New Jersey Supreme Court has just found that people posting opinions online don't have the same protections for sources as mainstream journalists. According to our secret sources at the AP, (also known as Copy and Paste), "The court ruled Tuesday that New Jersey's shield law for journalists does not apply to online message boards. The case involved a New Jersey-based software company named Too Much Media. It sued a Washington state blogger for defamation and wanted her to reveal sources she cited on message board posts." It is sad that the legislative has decided to invoke a tiering in the media world, which will most certainly backfire and bring even more eyeballs to the blogosphere, where while the bulk of the information comes in the form of CTRL+V information exchange, it does serve a critical role of being a non-conflicted (corporate advertising) source of much needed information. In the meantime, ever more blogs will find it necessary to offshore their operations (Iceland and Sweden are quite friendly in that regard) in order to avoid the encroaching US police state.

Criminal syndicate Wall Street bankers....long the US police state.

Do we really expect the social control system to empower an alternative and largely uncontrolled alternative information system? This news isn't surprising unless we have been drinking our own Kool-Aid.

Make mine Cherry please.

Too true! The Powers That Be are scared shitless by the direction the internet is taking. They will react. This is just the beginning. They would like to sell the internet to corporate interests and give them the same power over it that they have over CNN/MSNBC/FOX.  They would turn the net into a rubbish dump of propaganda in 5 minutes if given the power.

Social engineering is a real growth industry..........

And I hear it sells at a "historically cheap valuation."  Any pullbacks in price would be a "buying opportunity" and any such weakness would likely be very "transitory."  "Our Channel checks indicate a strong second half"  for police state industries and social engineering firms exposed to "Global Growth."  The continued "soft reprofiling" of the US dollar represents an "economic tailwind" supporting "forward earnings projections" in this dynamic new growth play.

Hey CD.  Don't diss those of us brewing our own kool-aid.  Great source of tax-free income for many.

Cognitive Dissonance's picture

Free range Kool-Aid is always preferable to store bought.

Cdad's picture

Hope you two remembered to lock the gate.  Pretty sure homemade Kool-Aide is against the law, and those ATF boys have clearly demonstrated their itchy trigger fingers.

If you have, somewhere on your premises, garage, under sink, whatever, stuff like nails, gasoline, ammonia, etc, .gov can make a FEDERAL CASE against you for having "BOMB MAKING MATERIALS" and they can make it STICK, if you are one of those pesky people who ask questions or are for YT as they say.

A gal who collected clothes for poor YT babies was snagged in just such a manner in Cali.

Medicinal use only brother Cdad. I would never break the king's law. Never.

Don't bogart that pot bag brother Cdad.

Cdad's picture

Good to know, brother Cog.  I'd hate to learn that you were carted off in a home brewed, Kool-aide induced tirade against the king...what with cognitive dissonance peaking the way it is just now.

Here is some Ctrl + V for you. A hilarious website:

Man, you sure are cognitively dissonancie today, brother.

I go both ways including left, right, up and down. I also time travel. That helps when the men in black are pounding on the door along with the ATF guys.

What is that?  A testicular hopium infuser?  The secondary burn looks painful, but the afterglow would almost certainly be worth it.

In fact, just looking at that picture is making me consider getting long assless chaps and $30 t-shirts, and then stopping off for a $9-$11 burrito [price including the Novartis products necessary remove the colon plug afterwards].

I'm starting to suspect that your cognitive dissonance might be impairing my judgement.

Justice McKinnon... was flabbergasted by Adekeye's "shocking" arrest during a judicial proceeding: "It is simply not done in a civilized jurisdiction that is bound by the rule of law."

"Almost nothing in the U.S. attorney's letter was true," Adekeye's lawyer Marilyn Sandford said Thursday.

Adekeye was suing Cisco for forcing customers to buy a maintenance contract to cover future software-bug fixes, patches and updates for its operating system and applications.

He left the U.S. in 2008 and was denied re-entry when he attempted to return to participate in the litigation.

The entire incident was a planned and deliberate act (smear campaign against Adekeye) by Cisco, which prevailed on U.S. prosecutors to "grotesquely inflate" a minor civil complaint into a criminal charge requiring 500 years imprisonment.

Sandford called the U.S. conduct Kafkaesque...

actually, it's fascist

Re Google - a company set up and seeded with CIA money - see for example this article, about Google blocking search results to 'erase' and murder dissidents from the United States ... Google is obviously not what many people think, Google Inc is just a more clever part of the US censorship apparatus:

« Google Agrees to Assist CIA, Blocking Belgian Journalism Websites to Help Murder US Dissident, non-Zionist Jew, in Brussels » by Dan Hajidah

Example of site with journalism censored - exterminated - from Google Inc search results, with Larry Page's apparent personal approval to censor, destroy and assassinate another Jew who is non-Zionist ... most of the suppressed articles are about corrupt US courts and the mass bribery of the High Court 'federal' judges of the United States:

This dissident is well-known inside Belgium and has been protected by the house of Belgian's King Albert II; the royal household here helped prevent his murder by US goons.

And Americans think there is no 'use' to constitutional monarchy ...

cara leaf's picture

No, no, no...you've got it all wrong.

Google was seeded by the National Science Foundation. Unless...you don't mean...it can't be....the Science Foundation is the C.I.A?

I mean, aside from the fact that Sergy (Mr Enlightenment himself) was born in Russia to two Russian spies who we gave asylum so they didn't get hacked to death by the KGB and the way Sergy shows his appreciation is by censoring blogs and emailers on Google, and for an especially nice touch, Sergy shifts Google's profits (and jobs) to Ireland (12.5% corporate rate) who ships Google's profits to Holland who ships Google's profits to Bermuda...and the next thing you know...Voila!  2.4% U.S. corporate taxes, mom!  And mom, guess what, I might even get a $1billion tax credit like Exxon and GE! And you know what else, mom?  I'm going to get involved in politics now and the first thing I'm going to do is lobby to take the mortgage tax deduction away from poor people.  No, mom,  you don't understand America at all.  That's not changing horses in mid-stream!  But if we're ever expect get the Oligarchy going (just like the old country, mom,) we have to keep all dumb ones off-balance.  No, mom, TV isn't enough...oops!  Sorry, mom, gotta go!  It's Zbigniew calling about the Bilderberg dinner.

Would you try publishing ZH as a church under religious freedom? It might have more chances.

nonclaim's picture

The only religion freedom still available are for Muslims, because they have the power of the mob. They'll burn the place down if that's the only way to be heard. All the others that play nice by "the rules" get shut out and/or sued into bankruptcy

Before anybody junk me, I don't mean the mob is bad, and despite it being misused more often than not, that is something to consider: they get what they want.

Forward History's picture

Don't worry about getting junked. We Christians have been getting junked throughout time, usually when the erosion of civil liberties is under full swing by despotic governments.

The sad thing is, we had centuries of people abusing the word of Christ, and acting as oppressors in its name -- starting with Constantine -- and now many people see the Bible less as the book kept from 19th Century American slaves (lest they get any wacky ideas about being equals), and more about the book that people were asked to swear apologies on before seeing if they were heavier than a feather.

Sucks, that.

Tsunami Effect's picture

just print out a few copies of your blog.  Put them in a "free" newspaper bin at starbucks.  Then you are a PRINT JOURNALIST.  I think that's the easiest way around stupid activist judges who rule based on their own biases.

AhhhItBurns's picture

Well, this is the only hope for print journalisms long term survival.

NotApplicable's picture

Interesting idea, but with the global reach of the internets, ambitious attackers would shop for the best jurisdiction to unleash their hired guns upon. Which of course, will be countered with demands for global jurisdiction, which will end up in a totally controlled tyranny.

Welcome to Hell. Luckily for you, it isn't eternal.
