No Fly Zone Succeeds: Libyan Rebels To Sell First Oil Cargo

Tyler Durden's picture

And so the real goal of the Libyan "No Fly Zone" succeeds: Reuters reports that the Libyan rebel alliance, which already has its own central bank and supposedly fiat printing machines, is about to sell its first oil cargo in the coming week."The agency said Liberian-registered tanker Equator was due to arrive in
the rebel-held eastern Libyan port of Tobruk on Monday to load a cargo
of Serir/Mesla blend crude oil. The agency quoted Wahid Bougaighis, head of the newly established oil
company, as saying: "They are coming for sure because there was a
contract signed already."" It remains to be seen how K-Daf feels about honoring contracts signed by insurgents. In the meantime, the chocolate lovers lobby is finally stirring about imposing a comparable No Fly Zone in Ivory Coast. You know, for human rights violations.

From Reuters:

Libyan rebels will this week load the first tanker with crude since an uprising against leader Muammar Gaddafi fully suspended exports from the North African country, Platts news agency reported on Monday.

The agency said Liberian-registered tanker Equator was due to arrive in the rebel-held eastern Libyan port of Tobruk on Monday to load a cargo of Serir/Mesla blend crude oil.

The agency quoted Wahid Bougaighis, head of the newly established oil company, as saying: "They are coming for sure because there was a contract signed already."

He gave no other details. Reuters could not reach Bougaighis for comment.

The rebel-led government has said it has concluded a deal with Qatar to market crude oil

The rebel movement has also said it is discussing plans to exempt its oil exports from sanctions and has also raised the issue with a U.N. envoy.

I was just wondering where the silver spike came from...I mean really...if you have "oil" why would you need a printing machine?

Well done TD - saying it how it is.

This No fly zone has got NOTHING to do with saving lives - do the Governments think we're all as thick as pig shit?

I actually hope Gaddaffi sinks the bugger - despite all the waste, environmental hazard and the fact that hoping Gaddaffi achieves anything - goes against the grain.

No wonder Obama want's to distance himself from this action - I think he's been clever enough to work out 'what comes next' in the world of western hypocriscy.

umop episdn's picture

At present, the oil is 'paper' oil, useful for driving down the price, but less useful for actually putting in a tanker. I also hope that the tanker is a paper tanker, so that it can be sunk with impunity.

I hope someone sinks the latest incarnation of a central bank. We have enough of those already.

"do the Governments think we're all as thick as pig shit?"

Duuuh ... yes. Do they have any evidence that "we" are not?

They are working on it, a no-fly zone, among many other things, assumes spilling blood of the dictator, otherwise mob won't be satisfied.

Nice Boris, and your Avataar pic is quite appropos too, eh. Is that the Q man himself?

Yes, another great quote from Muad'Dib...

I wonder about who gets to play the Fremen in the ongoing reality show? I suspect it might not be who a lot of people think are the good guys...

Gaddafi's assets aka Libya other central bank's assets got frozen because they belong to the People of Libya and the libyan people's assets had to be preserved.

Unrepresentative, minority movement setting up a central bank and shipping out national resources, is not robbing from the Libyan people.

By the way, does someone know if a nation can feature two central banks or has the coalition of the willing operated an undercover split of Libya, forming de facto two distinct entities?

Note to self's picture

Imagine how many NATO fighters will be swarming around that tanker.  So this is what it has come to - military escorts for oil shipments.

Blood for oil used to be a very bad thing.  But in Oceana it's a good thing 'cause Obama knows best.  Shame on Sarah Palin for wanting to drill American oil.  George Soros owns a chunck of Petrobras.  How much did Brother Leader give Petrobras last year?  We should be happy to pay twice for oil from Brasil,  Brother Leader said so during his most excellent vacation.

Fuckin'-A Right!

Now that the oil's flowing again, we can redirect military assets to kill rebels/save innocent people/protect human rights and get MY chocolate from the Ivory Caost....  because MY Human Rights are being violated by the chocolate shortage.

And I can pretty damned bitchy without my chocolate.  Might even take up booze again.  And ya'll do not want that.

Rodent Freikorps's picture

Why is it more moral to try to kill a dictator, and everyone near him, with a missile, but immoral to just shoot him?

BorisTheBlade's picture

Morality is different for masters and for slaves. Showing humility demonstrates weakness, thus ignoble, thus 'immoral' according to the 'higher' moral values. Shooting dictator definitely shows humility to at least those around him. Nietzshe, Beyond Good and Evil.

extremely bearish for this week. historically, 52 week highs in crude oil and simultaneous strength in equity markets are not a good indicator: http://www.hedgefundlive.com/blog/crude-oil-closes-at-a-new-high-why-this-is-bearish-for-the-equity-markets

hedge accordingly.

All your bases, err oil, are belongs to us

Dr. Porkchop's picture

I have to wonder in the end if it really matters who sells the oil. It's not as if the people selling it before were the picture of morality.

And the profits from the oil sales goes toooooo......???

I had a hunch IV troubles would hurt the supply of holy chocolate.  Been buying those fat Hageland Belgian chocolate bars, at .43 per oz, by the handfuls at Wal Mart.  Should have been long the beans I guess.  But I am happy to have a stash of physical chocolate.  Bull market.

All of your oil belongs to us.  We are going to invade, and take it if we must.  Seriously, Libya should be ours...their oil at least.  What is our strategy for a new empire in Africa?  let's do it.
