No Surprises In September State Unemployment Report

Tyler Durden's picture

There were no notable movers in the September BLS State unemployment report: the worst states were the usual suspects: Michigan, Nevada, Rhode Island, California, and South Carolina, while the states that have 8 people to share among them, North and South Dakota, Nebraska, Utah and Iowa, continued being the best performers.

You really need to look behind the numbers

Many states had drops in unemployment rate due to discouraged workers - i.e. in America once you give up for 4 weeks you are "employed".

^Check this out: 7 months after the stimulus 49 out of the 50 states have lost jobs.

I would not have expected Texas to suffer such a large loss. Then again everything is bigger there or so I have been told.

Whats funny is the projected job growth in some states.

Texas is hurting because Houston is a port city and the construction and refinery businesses has been hit hard. They'll bounce back as they aren't over-governed like the CA and NY basket cases.

When Conservative Values Achieve Liberal Goals

'In 2006, that state's land commissioner, Jerry Patterson, talked to me about the wind boom in Texas -- and the fate of migratory birds in the Gulf of Mexico, where Texas has long ... sought to put offshore turbines. "There are going to be some seagulls popped," Mr. Patterson acknowledged. He then added, "After several generations, we'll have smarter birds."'

that has been resolved.

the issue was never over extending benefits as both sides agreed. the differences came down to where to get the money from.  repubs wanted it out of existing stimulus money, dems didn't.  the repub position prevailed.  it'll be voted on in the senate, moved to conference for a quick resolution, then passed by both.

check The Hill for details, don't have link, read it earlier today.

I am getting all of those denial of the service messages when I try to reload the ZH. Wonder, which of the BORG collectives got tired of the ZH (us) and decided to hire Russian hackers to carry out their little vendetta?

In Iowa myself, and so far still working. OTOH my closest friend lost his job a week ago. He had been selling forklifts and other inventory type equipment. He said that he knew it was just a matter of time, even though he actually was performing pretty well.

I used to be #9, but I got laid off from a plant in Nebraska, and took a job down south.  My home town felt the sting of the downturn last month when the largest employer (a nursing home employing around 50 people) said that they were closing their doors.  With a population of 700 and 30 miles to the next town, everyone there is scared.

Who expects jobs to return and in what sector? While 20% of the nation cannot find work, Wall St. is paying bonus' to retain douchbags. If that argument holds true then it should be proven first.

My wife finally found a job after two years of being unemployed. She is an attorney and the firm that hired her was only hiring because of a contract they won with the state (they're about to go after all the dead beat dads). So, really the only reason why she has a job now is because of the government. Not that I care. Everyone else is sucking on that teet. We might as well too.
