At our firm we frequently receive calls from clients and readers asking about the likelihood of the passage by the Congress in Washington of reform legislation regarding over-the-counter (OTC) derivatives, financial regulation and/or mortgage securitization. Our answer is small to none given the political trends and the state of the lobbies in Washington, most specifically the large bank lobby that protects the Sell Side monopoly in OTC derivatives and securities. The fact that Senator Richard Shelby (R-AL) is still apparently not comfortable with the entirely watered down House proposal to reform OTC derivatives, for example, tells you all you need to know. Stick a fork in it.

Today, casinos have much more integrity in their business dealings than do banks. In general, casinos have more cash and more transparent business dealings with their clients than do banks. That's why it's so ironic that most large commercial banks, as part of their "moral code", do not allow private bankers to do business with casinos. It appears today, that the bankers got that one entirely wrong.

NY AG Cuomo Files Anti-Trust Lawsuit Against Intel

Tyler Durden's picture

I trust Andrew Cuomo is spending some time on Stephen Friedman...TD, it would be great to see you bring Stephen Friedman's windfall even more to the forefront than you already have. An investigative article into his actions would be great. Maybe Matt Taibbi or Vanity Fair would like to take this one on. The government goes after Martha Stewart but not Stephen Friedman....absurd and egregious.

Where in the world too is Cuomo's attack on Joe Cassano, the biggest crook of the entire bunch?

Guess if you are not a NY based financial institution you are SOL. How about targeting some of the questionable practices of Wall Street.

The whole thing makes me want to dump Microsucks and install Ubuntu Linux. I'm still kicking myself for getting a laptop with Vista.

Do it. I don't think Intel really cares what OS you run.

Please keep your focus on the banksters Mr. Cuomo.  Keep your eye on the prize.  Nobody cares about Intel when you have GS and the rest of wall st in your backyard.

Why would he seriously investigate his largest contributors?  BofAMLCMC  probably forgot to fill the NY AG's coffer...only paid up in NC.

There's a 2,000 degree inferno in the backyard named Goldman Sachs. And Cuomo is putting out a lit match in the front yard named Intel.

So besides being 'anti-competitive' - whatever that means - has Intel actually done something wrong here? Did they commit fraud somehow? Or did they just make too much money.

K, so Intel is located mostly in here while their competitors are located mostly overseas. The Intel is one of a few remaining corporations that have a large protion of their manufacturing in here and global leadership within their industry.

Now What the F . is that dumb ass trying to achieve? WTF is he giving his overseas overloards a green light to trash a business we should all be proud of?

Just like the RENO action against MS marked the top of the bubble in 1999, maybe this will do the same.

I applaud Cuomo. Remember the days when the Pentium2 500 sold for over $1,000? That was before AMD came out with the Athlon platform which blew Intel's best chip away by a large margin. The only way Intel could fight back was by rewarding its customers NOT to use AMD chips. This is illegal. The sole reason that we can buy CPUs for around $100 today is because of the competition that AMD created and Intel tried to destroy. Lose AMD and we all start paying $3,000+ for our personal computers again. In the end the competition from AMD forced Intel to produce a better, faster processor. Competition is good for everyone, but don't say that if you work for Intel.

and so we need anti-trust in this case because...? just to backstop AMD? Sounds like a bailout-type maneuver to me.

"TD, it would be great to see you bring Stephen Friedman's windfall even more to the forefront than you already have."

There cannot be trust in our institutions as long as people like Friedman can simply resign and go quietly into the night at the expense of investors, pension funds, mutual funds and others who did not have his privilege to insider information.

This guy belongs in jail. He should not get away with it.

Let me get this straight...

From Cuomo's office he can probably see the all time Godzilla's of anti trust crimes in GS and JPM in his lower Manhattan face everyday... but he can't find an anti trust case unless his eagle eyes descend on Santa Clara, 3000 miles away?

Whatsamatta Cuomo?

Need a public relations boost for the old political campaign but can't afford to piss off anyone big?

Can't clean up your own backyard, the neighborhood your office is in, because Wall Street might cut into all those fat campaign bribes you are counting to run for governor???

It is just like the DOJ, SEC and FBI wire tapping and charging some hedge fund guy of indian decent getting info from a bunch of other hindis and a hispanic guy in Silicon Valley.

I am not saying the guy isn't up to his eyeballs in insider trading, but so is every connected, ivy league, skull and bones, crony white boy on Wall Street.

So why is the FBI, DOJ chasing petty mortgage crooks in Florida, hindi hedge fund guys from Silicon Valley when the mass of the crimes, the hugest fraud in world history happened and continues right under their noses in lower Manhattan?

We already know the SEC, FBI and DOJ could not catch a Bernie Madoff if he walked into their office and turned himself in. Nice to see you proving more of the same, government boys...

Nothing to see at 85 Broad Street, FBI, SEC, DOJ, A-Douche-G Cuomo?

So now move along to Florida and California??

I worked for Intel for 10 and a half years, there tactics have kept a less than well deserved monopoly that have cost all of us. Even today, a consumer pays 100 or more for a microprocessor that should cost much much less. Fuck Intel in the Ass, but yes kill GS too.
