NYSE "Volume" - Lowest Since January 5

Tyler Durden's picture

Today is EOQ, yet the NYSE traded with the lowest volume since January 5. The correlation continues: low volume - market up; high volume - market plunge. Rinse. Repeat.

Also, in a complete failure for VWAP reversions, the early am shakeout on moderate volume was followed by a laughable lack of action at the day's highs untli the end of the the day, when, surprise, all the trading picked up in earnest in the last 10 seconds. What do you get when you cross Atlantic City with E-Bay? That's right - U.S. equity capital markets.

Yet with this low volume they were unable to break major descending trendlines. Vix and S&P looks to have closed dead on major trendlines.

The last several days look more like short covering than good amounts of buying. I wouldn't be surprised to see a another new high (gap open) followed by a down move on good volume for a change.

Whoa...did I say down? That may be against a GS directive...never mind.

I think there is a strong resistance at te 950 level of the S&P 500. Typically during bear markets, the market does not significantly rise above the 200 day EMA.

CME volume is falling like a sack of bricks too. Saw earlier that they were getting close to falling under the million mark.
