Obama Has Relieved Gen. McChrystal Of His Command
At least according to NBC News, quoting US Sources. According to AP, he will be replaced by Petraeus. The teleprompter's appearance in 5 minutes should confirm or deny.

Denninger pointed out that critisizing the civilian government is against the military code, and is a court martial offense. McChrystal knows this and you can imagine his reaction if some underling trashed him in the same way. The military is also fond of saying, you don't respect the man, you respect the rank.

Hate to say it but as a veteran myself the Prez had little choice but to dismiss McCrystal otherwise he would become even more "leader less" than he already appears.

Barry did NOT relieve anyone, he RESIGNED.
And, there is a difference...HUGE.
I am just guessing here, but as I understand it, the general resigned his command, not his commision. As his CiC, Obama officially relieved him of his command (officially accepting his resignation), and thereby officially relieving the general of the duties of said command.
What I find fascinating is nobody is disputing any of the claims or accusations made in the article. Putting aside the obvious "chain of command" issue, Maybe we should be asking just how competent and committed the civilian leadership really is. McChrystal(and a lot of other military types) seems to think not.

Seems to me that keeping him would have allowed greater control of the man as you could threaten to have him court martialed for behavior. Now that he will be a civilian the tell all can be written.
