Obama Statement On Rampant And "Credible" UPS Package Terrorism
Maybe someone can ask the administration why they let the planes take off with "credible threat" packages take off instead of halting them on the ground... But that's a question for the soon to be appointed terrorism czar. And after all, how else could they get footage of a landing aircraft to divert the people's attention from the fact that US debt is now $13.7 trillion.
Good afternoon, everybody. I want to briefly update the American people on a credible terrorist threat against our country, and the actions that we're taking with our friends and our partners to respond to it.
Last night and earlier today, our intelligence and law enforcement professionals, working with our friends and allies, identified two suspicious packages bound for the United States - specifically, two places of Jewish worship in Chicago. Those packages had been located in Dubai and East Midlands Airport in the United Kingdom. An initial examination of those packages has determined that they do apparently contain explosive material.
I was alerted to this threat last night by my top counterterrorism adviser, John Brennan. I directed the Department of Homeland Security and all our law enforcement and intelligence agencies to take whatever steps are necessary to protect our citizens from this type of attack. Those measures led to additional screening of some planes in Newark and Philadelphia.
The Department of Homeland Security is also taking steps to enhance the safety of air travel, including additional cargo screening. We will continue to pursue additional protective measures for as long as it takes to ensure the safety and security of our citizens.
ad_iconI've also directed that we spare no effort in investigating the origins of these suspicious packages and their connection to any additional terrorist plotting. Although we are still pursuing all the facts, we do know that the packages originated in Yemen. We also know that al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula, a terrorist group based in Yemen, continues to plan attacks against our homeland, our citizens, and our friends and allies.
John Brennan, who you will be hearing from, spoke with President Saleh of Yemen today about the seriousness of this threat, and President Saleh pledged the full cooperation of the Yemeni government in this investigation.
Going forward, we will continue to strengthen our cooperation with the Yemeni government to disrupt plotting by al-Qaida in the Arabian Peninsula and to destroy this al-Qaida affiliate. We'll also continue our efforts to strengthen a more stable, secure and prosperous Yemen so that terrorist groups do not have the time and space they need to plan attacks from within its borders.
The events of the past 24 hours underscores the necessity of remaining vigilant against terrorism. As usual, our intelligence, law enforcement and Homeland Security professionals have served with extraordinary skill and resolve and with the commitment that their enormous responsibilities demand. We're also coordinating closely and effectively with our friends and our allies, who are essential to this fight.
As we obtain more information we will keep the public fully informed. But at this stage, the American people should know that the counterterrorism professionals are taking this threat very seriously and are taking all necessary and prudent steps to ensure our security. And the American people should be confident that we will not waver in our resolve to defeat al-Qaida and its affiliates and to root out violent extremism in all its forms.

I think one has to take the zombie factor into account. Last poll I saw stated 40% public support for Barry Soetoro So I would guess maybe e 40-50%+ actually either believe this phony terrorist garbage or at least just don’t care anymore. But I think we may be seeing a build-up or preparation of the public for a large scale event.
Lindsey Williams in a 10-21 interview said an Arizona Hispanic activist he knows had lunch with the head of The Department of Homeland Security, Janet Napolitano the week before. Napolitano told her something big is in the works and she was advising her friends to get 6 months food and water together right away.
Compare Chairman Obama's approval numbers to those paying no taxes, but getting the free govt. cheese in one form or another.
That’s definitely part of their program – government money/dependency for votes. Barry’s even been down in the Southwest pitching to the illegals to vote
Did Barama jump to conclusion here?
We're not supposed to do that according to the one.
Straight out of "The Office". Exploding inkjets. Then again NBC is owned by GE who is connected to the white house...
Ever since they "found" that Betamax of Osama Bin Laden in the cave, laughing with his Mullah buddy about how pleasantly surprised he was about the towers falling - just before some "critical" patriot act had to be passed by the sheep in Congress I knew then and now that most of these alerts, scares and incidents are orchestrated to benefit the current power system. If they really wanted to do it, they could. You could smuggle a dolphin past the TSA these days.
Predictable-
- successful government marketing of an intervention
- nobody gets hurt
- blame a camel jockey
- big speech by the tough guy
- military industrial complex gets more funding
- spooks in spy agencies get to run amok and torch civil liberties
Didn't expect this scam until Monday
Kinda funny-Seeking Alpha's Breakfast club had a total of (1) ea comment this am. While I'm sure everyone was checking their earnings reports, this in as of itself was somewhat mystifying. I can't remember seeing such light activity.
Maybe it is to distract us from the rampant voter fraud occurring across America this week?

"divert the people's attention from the fact that US debt is now $13.7 trillion"
we wish the debt was only $13.7 trillion ...
"U.S. government debt is not $13.5-trillion (U.S.), which is 60 per cent of current gross domestic product, as global investors and American taxpayers think, but rather 14-fold higher: $200-trillion – 840 per cent of current GDP"

I thought the Predator Drones killed everyone in Yemen already.

I think Barry's getting close to the record...10,000 tons of carbon and counting...the week after the election he's goin for the undisputed championship of the world, to be crowned in India ;-)
is there someone who's tracking his carbon footprint? if so, please share, it would be really interesting to see.
I'm not sure...but at the half way point of his term it must be massive.
Some were pointing out the hypocrisy of it all quite a while back...whether you believe in manmade global warming or not...here's a decent guide;
Those calculations are for one airplane however. The president always has a second, spare airplane that goes along as well therefore the total must be multipled by two.
http://www.examiner.com/climate-change-in-national/calculating-the-carbon-footprint-of-president-obama-s-olympic-trip
I felt at the time he could make a bold tactical/political statement by conducting more teleconferencing/telemeeting type things...but of course he's against everything I'm for so I would never suggest such a thing ;-)
For the record I don't believe what we breath out (CO2) is a danger to the enviroment...it's plant food...LOL...but the EPA thinks otherwise.
The trip to India will involve 140 aircraft, including both Air Force One aircraft.
Put that in your pipe and smoke it, but don't exhale for fear of destroying the planet.
;-)
And you thought allergy medicine was a pain in the ass to buy (name, DOB, Driver's license #). Just wait until the newly founded congressional panel 'to save us from ink cartridges' is established along with subsequent laws. 1099's and first born for every purchase over $9.99.
Man, that is okay, Burt Reynolds and Jerry Reed and Sally Field will be running the stuff East across the Red River just like Coors Beer back in the 70's. Homeland Security will be chasing them in black SUV's with punk mag wheels and blacked-out windows, and the helicopters will be Apaches with chain guns and missiles. Shit, that doesn't sound good. Well...maybe Wal-Mart will get into the act. Homeland Security has no chance against them.
Virtually all terrorism is of the state-sponsored (state sanctioned) variety. The tiny sliver that is the remainder is likely caused by state stupidity -- onerous, mettlesome, asinine rules and regulations -- that contribute greatly to events such as the Bath School Disaster --

Any one catch Scott Reddlers [T-3] comment today about why the market was not falling as bombs were mailed around the country?
"The market is more mature now." Did anyone else see this ponzi scheming fuck say this? I'd like to know.
Cdad was here....
YEMEN rearranged spells ENEMY. Yemen has at least a few billion barrels of oil, and is in a very nice strategic location. Mossad works everywhere. Who's to say they didn't send the package from Yemen?
We need to take over Yemen ASAP! That oil along with Iraq's oil and Afghanistan's other resources could be very handy.
Quite clever for sure. Like I said, Barry's own brown shirts
Yemen is an anagram for Enemy!
That's it, I'm fucking through, done, over, shorting out, shocked, alarmed, terrified..... Please, please, pleeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeease do not ever fucking repeat that again, for else the Powers That Be decide to utilize it in some subversive public relations black flag false disinformation diversion misleading campaign to further motivate the American People to Not Tune out America Can't Dance, JoiseyShuuuuoooore and the Bubbleheaded Nefarious Silicone Enhanced Pseudo-Financial News PropagandaVision on the telly and really Extract their sorry asses from the Mainstream Mass Media Mental Manipulation and Masturbation Machine.
Don't. Keep it a secret. Please.
Yemen is enemY spelled badly.
Jesus H Fucking Christ on a Crutch.....
Now that is funny.
so what country spells "frenemy"--that's what i want to know. France and Germany perhaps?
Yumping yemeny.
The Mossad has a heavy presence in the area, and this thing wreaks of them.
Yup, Yemen is mainly Mossad agents these days.
Local news stated that the printer cartridges contained white powder, that it was PETN, and that PETN is easy to make at home....
Tyler: Most people in this country do not understand what government debt means...they know what personal debt means, because almost all of us have been there and on that one. But when you talk trillions, very few people understand what that means. A "trillion" is not a number that is easily digested in the brain of non-number types. They do, however, understand CNN showing live shots from a helicopter of a plane landing that might have a bomb in it. They understand Muslim terrorists sending explosive devices to synagogues. This is "Election Friday," the last real day before the Ami's go to vote that the drama queen networks can be used to get the point across: The Democrats are watching out for your miserable ass.....we prevented the potential for an absolute disaster. Right. The problem is, if I have to spend the weekend wondering who is going to protect me better: Dems or repubs...who would I pick? Well, me personally neither, but I think most will pick repubs, even though they orchestrated the tightest crackdown of this society in history. But, hopefully I am wrong, maybe those folks who cannot visualize a trillion (and I am one of them) will simply not give a fucking shit. That is the correct response.
I'm surprised nobody has yet suggested sending exploding ink cartridges to Ben Bernake. Perhaps I missed it.
Well...HO HO HO....Big Ben doesn't use plastic-clad printers, he uses big copper plates in drum-roll machines to print umpteen jillion dollars.
No bank failures on bank failure Friday? How disappointing.
Probably be a load post-election.

We are, on all global fronts, ERADICATED!!! Gold, Silver,, I must admit..
The hearings held this past week by the Senate Armed Services Committee have established that the Obama Afghanistan policy is in ruins. Obama had always profiled himself as the most extreme warmonger when it came to Afghanistan – more aggressive than Hillary, more aggressive than McCain, and more aggressive than Bush. Now, the casualty lists are getting tragically longer, and the ground offensives touted by neocon favorite son Petraeus and McChrystal are turning out to be abortive. Defense Secretary Gates sounds more and more like McNamara during Vietnam or Rumsfeld during the Iraq debacle at when he assures the Senators that much progress is being made. The resulting crisis will be revealed no later than the November NATO summit by an increased rate of defection from the invasion coalition by various NATO states and other supporters of the US-led coalition. Most of all, there is also an immediate need for an antiwar challenger to run against Obama in the Democratic primary campaigns which began about a year from now with the Iowa straw poll.
The fatal weakness of Obamas approach to the Afghanistan military adventure was the contradiction between the announced purpose – the need to defeat Al Qaeda, in reality the CIA’s own Arab Legion – and the real purpose, which has always been to export the civil war from Afghanistan into Pakistan to break up the Pakistan energy corridor between Iran and China and to make sure that the “Pipelinestan” perspective for that country’s economic development will never come to fruition. The populations of Pushtunistan and Baluchistan are targeted in order to spread rebellion and civil war into Pakistan.
In the wake of the extremely fishy Times Square car bomb incident, a new dimension has been added to the US attack on Pakistan. It should be noted in passing that the Times Square car bomber had been subject to intensive surveillance by members of the US Joint Terrorism Task Force going back half a dozen years, suggesting that we are dealing with the umpteenth patsy of the current series. Since the US accuses of the Pakistani Taliban of being responsible for this alleged car bomb, a pretext for a direct bombing attack or special forces incursion targeting Pakistan is now available. As the Washington Post wrote on May 29, 2010:
As long as the US pursues the absurd and hopeless invasion of Afghanistan, the danger will increase that defeated US generals will seek career or political salvation through the flight forward of further escalating the wider war with Pakistan, leading towards world tragedy on an even vaster scale.
President Karzai of Afghanistan has learned that the United States cannot be trusted under any circumstances. Over the past several months, he has been seeking to play the China card and the Iranian card as a means of lessening his dependence on the fickle invaders from the other side of the world. He has also been trying to secure his own arrangement with the Taliban. Any attempt by the United States to remove Karzai from power would quickly make the US military predicament even more hopeless than it is already. The only answer is a speedy withdrawal of all US and NATO forces from Afghanistan before the end of this year.
At the NATO meeting scheduled for Lisbon in November, the Netherlands and Canada will reassert their current plans to withdraw their contingents from this graveyard of empires. The new Tory Prime Minister of Great Britain is also signaling his desire to find a path to the exit. Poland has demanded the presentation of an exit scenario at that Lisbon meeting. Given the insolent and shabby treatment that the US has been meting out to Turkey recently over issues like Ankara’s attempt to mediate the Iranian nuclear dispute, and then the Israeli attack on the Turkish-sponsored Gaza aid flotilla, it would not be surprising for the Turks announce that they will be leaving soon as well.
Obama’s Afghanistan strategy as announced in last December’s West Point speech is of course a masterpiece of political cynicism and hypocrisy. He promises that the withdrawal of the US forces will begin in July 2011, which by some strange coincidence happens to coincide with the beginning of the primary election campaign in Iowa and also in New Hampshire. Obama knows how vulnerable he is among Democratic voters to a primary challenge from his left. This is the lesson learned by Lyndon B. Johnson when Eugene McCarthy and then Robert Kennedy entered the field against him in 1968 – the last time that a warmongering Democratic president has faced the primary voters. Having learned from this, Jimmy Carter carefully avoided foreign military adventures for the first three years of his presidential term. Nevertheless, Carter’s economic failure and general administrative fecklessness were so severe that he was challenged by Senator Edward Kennedy.
Obama, as we have noted before, combines the economic failures of Carter with the militaristic bungling of Johnson, plus the domestic police state oppression and scandals of Nixon. Somebody in the Democratic Party needs to enter the lists against Obama, or this social formation will soon have to be pronounced moribund. Veneration of Obama is in sharp decline. In addition to the failure of the Afghanistan war, there is also the White House’s catastrophic mismanagement of the Gulf oil spill. Unemployment remains near 10%, and might soon start going higher as a result of the hedge fund-induced collapse of Europe. And then, summer is a great time for scandals in Washington, DC. The trial of former Illinois Governor Rod Blagojevich threatens to expose Obama’s corrupt origins in the Illinois Bipartisan Combine.
During the 1922 Teapot Dome scandal of the Harding administration, much attention was focused on the green stone house controlled by Attorney General Harry Daugherty and located at 1625 K St. NW. This time around, events may hinge on the mysterious apartment owned by Democratic pollster and reported BP consultant Stan Greenberg and his wife, Democratic Connecticut Congresswoman Rosa Delauro. Rahm Emanuel, the political manager of the current regime, is said to have lived in this apartment for several years, and there is much curiosity about his activities there during that time. This could all prove extremely embarrassing for Obama.
The necessary challenger to Obama would have to be antiwar, anti-Wall Street, ant-Federal Reserve, and anti-police state. Any takers?

Out fucking standing Geo!!
"The official added that there is a broad consensus in the U.S. military that air strikes would at best erode the threat posed by al-Qaeda and its affiliates, and risk an irreparable rupture in the U.S. relationship with Pakistan. "
That's right, lets just bomb them, they should go dig up the the old military reports on Rolling Thunder 1965 to 1968 that worked well.
The four objectives of the operation, (which evolved over time) were: To boost the sagging morale of the Saigon regime in the Republic of Vietnam; To persuade North Vietnam to cease its support for the communist insurgency in South Vietnam without actually taking any ground forces into communist North Vietnam; To destroy North Vietnam's transportation system, industrial base, and air defenses; and to interdict the flow of men and material into South Vietnam.
Yep ... I'm in! i-dog for president!! Pick me, pick me...
You can also add "anti-state" to that list for me ... and this is where we part ways, Geo. While you advocate socialist policies and even more regulations to solve everything, I advocate free enterprise and the rule of individual contracts ... whether between individuals or between groups of individuals, but always between contracting parties with common interests for mutual benefit.
However, unfortunately, even if I were to run for president and be elected, I'd still have to deal with 535 congressmen and millions in the bureaucracy -- ALL working in their own vested interests and attempting to thwart my efforts at every turn.
You got my vote Dawg. Do it i-doggy style in 2012.

Wait...whaaa?
He said on the campaign trail he would invade Paaahkeeestaaahn if that's what it took to win...it was the "good war"...not like Iraq...which was bad bad.
He also said he would meet with that friggin nutcase in Iran..."without preconditions" if you will recall.
It's getting crowded under that bus...Hillary! is the only hope for change...oh my...ROTFL.

Whoa doggie!
Thems Chineses (as Tyler calls 'em) is gettin' pretty cock sure and tough around the edges of late. Tellin' the Japanese and Yankee Dogs to try pickin' rare earths outa their buttholes, Pakistan is their Israel, tradin' a bazillion dollars of Greek debt for ships, pushing the boundaries (actually) with respect to international waters, telling Little Timmah Two Hands to go jerk off by his lonesome, buying up every and any natural resource available. These folk be gettin' tough.
And not a piss that anybody can do about it. Other than talk tough.
Brilliant, they be! Brilliant timing!

i suddenly feel very much like vomiting
Given the Massive amount of treaty law on air transport security, I want to know exActly How is it that items "apparently containing explosives" were allowed to continue on, so much as a foot down the conveyor belt from that determination?!?
Think about it: IF one of these had gone off in the air, and destroyed a plane, After being ID'd as explosive? That would be the End of the careers of everyone involved, period. So why take that risk? To me, the obvious answer seems that they knew all about them, and either knew they were unfused, or had arranged for them to be so.
Note that I am Not claiming conspiracy. They may have moles in Yemen (likely; everything for sale there), and compromised al-Queda's op. So they knew it was a dry run, or had a guy far enough inside to make it a dry run.
As an Obama supporter I hate to say this but liberals are wenies. When the Conservatives plan a false flag attack you get 9/11. When the Dems are in control of the ball this is what you get for your money. I feel neither fear nor panic at the moment.
FAIL
The planning for 9/11 started under Clinton. It wasn't a "party" thing.
quote from article
counterterrorism professionals are taking this threat very seriously
wonder if they are tasking it as seriously
as the counter economists
who are running our country .....
NOT..
Why did they use UPS? They are a union shop, whereas FedEx is not, IIRC.
"Why did they use UPS? They are a union shop"
I think you answered your own question ;-)
Well, not really. Seems you'd want to harm your non-union competition.
But but but but but.....
The bomb wasn't a real bomb and if it was a real bomb it wasn't meant to act like a real bomb like the underpants bomber on his way to Detroit who only scorched his nuts and didn't really blow them off, so nobody was hurt by the real bomb which might or might not have been real anyway and that way the intelligence Oxymorons can claim that they were particularly successful because they got to the bomb before the bomb befell the bomb target and, within the parameters of the Unions Labour Contract with UPS, they're protected from being subject to management bombardment and harassment so that the bomb couldn't be a real bomb and if anyone were hurt by a real bomb, then UPS's earnings would get hit and they'd not get all of the positive airtime and pilots be interviewed for being heroic American standing forth for justice and freedom in the face of the bombs.
Gld you cleared that up for me. Heeeeyyyy, wait a minute - the Pilots Union is different. Oh never mind, it's still a union.
Oh yeah, so it doesn't matter that they were unionized and even might get something out of it. Almost forgot.
The more I think about this the less sense it makes to me.
As a targetted device it is quite clever, put tracking on it and you can see it in transit over the internet, once delivered just call the cell phone to detonate, clever but why on earth would you do a dry run to a jewish center of all places? It kind of gives the game away before you play your hand, this makes no sense to me.
As a targetted weapon if it was remotely detonated by phone then it is like a homing missile, why would you give the game away? I just can't get my head around this. Something fishy here.
You're struggling because you are presuming competence. Ah, don't do that.
I'm not even trying to suggest who did what. That players on both sides of that table are incredibly stupid is quite clear.
How many times will stupid terrorist fail at their task only to have the FBI and the TSA come out later and claim that they thwarted the act...before America wakes up and defunds this stupid government?
Seriously. Defund DC.
They are just going to create a "false flag" Internet Panic, which they already tested the waters for on 9/11.
A false flag internet attacks that WIPES the balance sheets of the bank off the face of the earth and the dollar is devalued.
There will not be a dollar collapse. A new CASHLESS system will be created that will be accessed via the iPhone.
During this time, they will also COLLAPSE google databases and "erase our history" 21st Century Book Burin-Style!
Theres No question Gold will go to the moon. These F-n morons who lead this country are a shameless pos. Look at the bright side.. it's in the bag.
"Be afraid. be very afraid. Elese we'll crank the terror threat up to critical and search the inside of your eyeballs looking for explosives at the airports, schools, courts ect. You don't want that now do you, so be good little sheep and wet your pants."
It's about time zerohedge did some articles on 9/11, the Oklahoma city bombings, 7/7 and such. They were blatantly carried out by our own governments, I'm sure the ZH writers know this and it's not like this is a fringe belief anymore. Give us some conspiracies DAG NABIT!
We know WHO did it, we know HOW they did it and we know WHY they did it, so spread the wisdom guys. The only way we'll get rid of the oligarchs is by informing the Johny Punchclocks and Sally Housecoats about just how evil the current regime is so they get intolerably angry. Right now they know the government is corrupt and selfish but they don't understand the full extent of the carnage they are causing.
Shut up ... the government can be corrupt and at the same time terrorist can be a real threat. Everyone has an opinion and yours is suspect.
You are perfectly entitled to your own opinion, as are the writers of ZH. I was simply expressing my desire to see some articles about false flag terrorism. Surely the war on terror is relevant to the global economy? It is clearly a contoversial subject matter but so is the collapse of western society which ZH is boldly reporting on.
Of course not every terrorist incident is planned out by intelligence agencies but if you take some time to study the events that I mentioned you may find out that the evidence is pretty damning against our own governments.
If your interested you could start by reading Geopol's/Webster G Tarpley's brilliant book "9/11 Synthetic Terror". He explains how drills are used to cover the tracks of the perpatrators and confuse the innocent minions in air traffic control, law enforcement, fire department, military intelligence ect.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wzNjmIWbns4
ok, i take it back. worthless was the wrong word.
soul less maybe.
The more you stir the worst it stinks!
True Americans don't want the government to protect THEM.
They want the government to protect THEIR RIGHTS ...and that's EXACTLY what the Constitution says.
Gutless spineless SHEEP want the government to protect them ...and they deserve neither freedom nor rights.
Unfortunately, the gutless slime give the predators-that-be an excuse to totally enslave those of us who value and insist upon liberty, under the guise of protecting our skins.
Ahem, why are we running UPS out of Yemen to Chicago. Is there UPS from Waziristan as well?
Just a reminder from where Obama is getting his ideas: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3lDZjiPok3w
how many Americans have died from terrorism and how many died falling over in the bath? The war on terror, with tremendous respect to those who have died, is one of the biggest wastes of money ever.
I live near a Air Force base and on occasions they scramble with afterburners on. Sure gets your attention. But as much as I can't stand this corrupt administration, I feel proud watching these pilots put their life on the line.
Nothing suspicious about spending $200 to send a $35 toner cartridge from Yemen to Chicago.
So they allowed the airplanes to fly, not knowing if the bombs were stable enough for flight? They weren't worried about the bombs possibly detonating in air from jostling around?
So we can make an assumption that the authorities knew they weren't designed to blow up upon opening the box. So the mechanism of detonation was using the toner cartridge?
It seems rather odd that someone from al-Queida would break into a Jewish synagogues to see what type of toner cartridges they use and to make sure they needed it soon. (you know, just before elections).
Took a look at a picture on WSJ of what was allegedly inside one of the packages.
http://online.wsj.com/article/SB1000142405270230328460457558286234470264...
Looks like an older model "candy bar" cell phone PCB (printed circuit board) hammered (as in hammered shit) onto some sort of metal chassis (my guess is a laser printer or maybe a fuser assembly) with what appear to be sheet metal screws and pieces of broken off plastic for insulating shims.
Found this after posting. It is a laser printer.
http://english.aljazeera.net/photo_galleries/americas/201010301046197174...
The Al Jazeera picture showing the PCB is slightly different from the one on the WSJ in that they appear to be the same PCB and print device, the WSJ photo is likely before bomb techs tinkered with it. The AJE shots do not show the retaining screws and makeshift insulating shims/washers, the printer power & signal cables have been removed from the cable retainer and the PCB appears to be ~1" to the left and about the same closer to the ribbon cable than in the WSJ photo.
Yeah. Looks like something that poor bored little Johnnie threw togeather from the Box-O-Shit underneath the bottom shelf on the workbench in the garage right next to the old Ball jar full of Carbon-tetra-chloride that Grandma still huffs after a few shots of JW Dant Sour Mash before she goes off to the Women's Club for mahjong leaving him alone to practice French kissing with the family's pet weiner dog.
So we can update and see someone spent $500 to send a $150 used printer and some other crap from Yemen to a Chicago synagogue, once again not suspicious.
I like that Aljazeera used the NYT info from Jane Harmon to add to the credibility of the operation, pointing out that it is the same stuff used by the crotch bomber another highly credible operation, nice touch.
Wow! The crotch bomber had a printer in his undies, too? Like brown streaky ink-stains?
Abandon hope all ye in quest of a virgin goat in port.
Imagine crude, but large "dirty bombs" radioactively contaminating the downtown business districts of all of our largest cities simultaneously. Black Swan indeed.
Commerce would stop. Martial Law would ensue for years maybe. Markets would crash with no hope of recovery.
The psychological blow would be overwhelming. That is what the War on Terror is trying to prevent, (or something like it). Like it or not, we live at the peak of a technological pyramid, and the view is quite fine, but it is ever so fragile, our existence up there. And the tumbling fall to the bottom would be deadly for almost all.
But to the Jihadists such an outcome, (falling back to the Seventh Century), would be a paradise, (minus the 72 virgins).
While that argument sounds worthwhile, what are the chances, as this would not be in the oligarchy's best interests. On the other hand, scaring people about such a possibility allows the oligarchy unlimited opportunities to ratchet up the fascist state--which definitely is in its interests.
Follow the money, dude--it'll never steer you wrong...
I would say to you, to follow the hate and ideology that possess the jihadists.
How could the jihadists rid themselves of what they consider our satanic influence and meddling forever?
Any effective strike that could knock civilization back to the Seventh Century would be most to their liking. They could live in their mud huts, beat their wives, and shoot their guns without worrying about the intrusion of corrupting ideas or low-flying drones.
Junk me at your peril, if that means that there are enough of you to change our policy in regards to trying to prevent the BIG ONE.
And yes, the Banksters and Oligarchs are using that ever-present peril against us. What did you expect? We proles are between a rock and a hard place. I think that Liberty will likely die sometime in the next few decades. It will be extinguished worldwide. There are too many converging trends working against it.
You are either insane, delusional, a psychopathic, and/or a sociopath.
I can't believe you pretend to advocate liberty!
The number one reason the government of the USSA is a temporary target is because they have abused other peoples and other places like no other force in history.
I can guarantee you this. If the USSA would totally "stand down", totally exit all other countries and let them run their own affairs, and generally mind its own business... then nobody (including potential terrorists) would give a rats butt about the USSA. On the other hand, if the government of the USSA continues to be the biggest bunch of terrorist thugs on earth, they should expect reactions from pissed-off victims now and then.
The only solution is pure, unadulterated honesty, ethics, liberty and individualism. A country of individualists is nearly indestructable, precisely because it is a "flat architecture", not a pyramid scheme. A real individualist country has few if any weak points, because the wealth and power is distributed more-or-less equally, and in proportion to productivity. In such a system, so-called terrorist actions have limited consequences in the grand scheme.
To summarize: today, the USSA is "the big one".
To avoid the "big one", just leave others alone, and they'll leave you alone. If you don't believe that, ask yourself why people in Uraguay or NewZealand or Greenland or dozens of other places on earth are not worried and not "in the cross hairs". The answer is quite obvious. Simply leave others alone.
honestann,
Being the Big Dog of The West we will always be the number one target. And if we leave the Persian Gulf to the tender mercies of Iran, we will freeze in the dark. The jihadists would accept nothing less than for us to go into hiding and pay tribute. And even then just the fact of our mere existence would probably be enough to invite attack given their extreme ideology. There are no easy choices.
And don't tell me that the Energy Returned on the Energy Invested of Wind and Solar power can replace oil for a modern nation of over 300 million people.
This is the attitude of a bully. If we cannot afford the products we import, or the owner-suppliers choose not to sell those products to us, then we must do without them. A bully (like you) will always say "then we'll take it", while any honest, ethical, benevolent, productive human will find alternatives (like looking further into clean [liquified] coal and LNG (liquified natural gas) and other semi-conventional technologies, plus wind, solar and others. You would be happy to say "they have no right to our products if we don't want to sell them", but then turn around and propose we "invade/fight/nuke them to get their oil". That makes you a predator, and makes them victims, not terrorists.
You really need to learn arithmetic, rationality and simple logic. For example, put yourself in the position of someone in the middle east who wants to trash the USSA. Now, figure out how you are going to destroy the USSA. Figure out how you'll organize and pay everyone you need to help you. Figure out how you intend to recruit, train and ship about 1 billion folks to the USSA to fight a war against its population, which is roughtly what it would take to have a fighting chance. Furthermore, just imagine what would happen the moment you begin. I refer to those dozens of mushroom clouds where your recruits were. Your scenarios are like idiotic night-time horror stories concocted to frighten children who have no clue whatsoever about the nature of reality, humanity, warfare, etc. They are utterly absurd. I am infinitely more worried about morons like you than nutballs in the middle east. And I am certain they would not bother with people in the USSA if the USSA stopped being a nasty imperialist bunch of terrorist thugs.
I do not pretend it would be trivial or quick to replace the oil we import. The answer to that is "tough luck, idiots" to anyone who was stupid enough to get themselves into this position. The last 8 presidents have stated the USSA shall become energy self-sufficient because doing so is crucially important... then did nearly nothing about it except massively raise gasoline taxes (to generate more revenue for them to play with). But energy solutions do exist, and are practical. In fact, if the USSA spent as much developing energy sources as they spent in the past 2 years enriching banksters, we could be energy self-sufficient within a few years. Actions have consequences, and those who take actions (or fail to take actions) must accept the consequences of those actions and inactions --- not someone else.
Your philosophy is 100% pure predator. You'd make a good presidential candidate. Finally, the USSA (and especially its government and mega-organizations) is no longer a "modern society" that believes in honesty, ethics, justice, benevolence, productivity and individuality. The USSA is the primary gang of predators-that-be. Increasingly individuals who live in the USSA approve of such anti-americanism. That is sad.
This was one of many accurate lines from your outstanding contribution, HonestAnn!!
It's a shame most won't see your honest assessment in this now-idle thread.
this one's good too: "The last 8 presidents have stated the USSA shall become energy self-sufficient because doing so is crucially important... then did nearly nothing about it"
wonder why?

Halliburton and the Upcoming ElectionBy Robert Reich, Robert Reich's Blog
29 October 10
.....
Halliburton, in case you've forgotten, is not exactly a model citizen. It has evaded U.S. taxes and export bans through foreign subsidiaries; admitted to bribing foreign officials (a subsidiary paid $2.4 million to a Nigerian government official in exchange for favorable tax treatment); conceded in an internal memo (leaked to the Wall Street Journal) its cost controls for government contracts in Iraq were "antiquated" and its procurement "disorganized; was found by Pentagon auditors to have overcharged estimated at $27.4 million for meals served to American troops at five military bases in Iraq and Kuwait (in one camp billing for an average 42,000 meals a day but serving only 14,000).
The list of Halliburton's crimes goes on and on. And yet, somehow, Halliburton goes on piling up profits. How? Because of its deep connections to Washington.
Dick Cheney hadn't had any experience in the oil business when he became Halliburton's CEO in 1995. But he did have experience in government - as George H.W. Bush's Secretary of Defense. And those military ties were invaluable to the company. Under his reign, Halliburton rose from 73rd to 18th on the Pentagon's list of top contractors, and the money garnered from government-sponsored agencies (such as the Overseas Private Investment Corporation and the Export-Import Bank) soared from $100 million in the five years prior to Cheney's arrival to $1.5 billion a few years after.
As vice president to George W. Bush, Cheney made sure Halliburton's stunning performance would continue (Cheney continued to receive checks from the company). According to congressional inquiries, Cheney's vice presidential office was instrumental in forcing the Environmental Protection Agency to remove sections on climate change from reports in 2002 and 2003 (a process Christine Todd Whitman, then the EPA administrator, subsequently described as "brutal.") The Bush-Cheney administration also sought to control or censor congressional testimony about climate change by federal employees, and tampered with other reports in order to inject uncertainty into the climate debate.
Which brings us back to the Deepwater Horizon blowout. Halliburton's executives knew the cement it used to seal the well was filled with mud - but Halliburton said nothing presumably because doing the job correctly would have cost too much. And, hell, Halliburton is in business to make money.
Halliburton isn't on the ballot next Tuesday, but it might as well be.
dick cheney can just s uck my derrière.
I'm having trouble getting basic information about what's going on. Was anything actually found in the ink cartridges? I've read several MSM "news" articles but still can't figure it out.
No actually, I think you are starting to get the picture.

"A Yemeni official told Yemen Post that no U.S. cargo aircraft of any American company flew out of Yemen over the last 48 hours."
Why would Arab and Yemeni officials claim this? American political propaganda perhaps?

I find it very interesting that many Muslim countries still have usery laws.
Why do you find that interesting?
Antithetically heretical, outlawed as per the Quran to charge or accept interest.
In this case, the usury laws proscribe hot pokers up the anus accompanied by genetal detachment.
Or something equally as entertaining to the gathered believers on punishment day.
Will vary by sect and region.
Implemented by professionals.
Don't try this shit at home.

Wouldn't you know the threat would just happen to coincide with the arrival of neked body scanners at PHL.
Sometimes I feel like Diogenes, albeit I am looking for a sane man (or woman). They are becoming increasingly hard to find. I am hopeful that one may exist in the form of nmewn. There may be others, and even a silent majority.
Reading down this far on the thread, I see that everyone from bin Laden to Afterdinnerjacket is really a Jew. This is “known”. It is also only one’s pollution from Fox that makes one believe bin Laden is a Wahabi fanatic (technically incorrect, but close enough for government work).
Imagine my surprise.
See, unlike those who get their “facts” from people whose tin is thicker than Alex Jones, I actually get out of my Mom’s basement from time to time.
Perhaps I’m too dependent on linear time lines in a world where tomorrow is yesterday, but when I use to live in Saudi Arabia, Fox News---and I use that term with the most generosity I can muster---did not yet exist. I never found any indigenous Jews in Saudi Arabia. Nor Christians. Nor Buddhists or Hindus or Zorastrians. Just Moslems. In Jeddah most were Sunni. In Riyadh most were Sunni with a tendency toward Wahabi-ism. In Dhahran there were lots of Shiites (the oil fields are heavily staffed with Shiite laborers, which is a concern if Shiites and Sunnis have another disagreement over who killed Ali and what his job might have been if he had lived…GOSPs are vulnerable).
There are no churches in Saudi Arabia. As inconvenient as it must be for the bin Laden family, there are no synagogues. There are no temples, either. In fact, they are illegal. The practice of any faith---other than the ONE TRUE FAITH ©---is prohibited by law. The penalty is death by public beheading.
Take a ride down the highway from Jeddah to Taif. As one nears Mecca, the warnings begin. “Non-Moslem Turn-off 30 km Ahead”. There is ample warning, kind and understanding as the Saudi’s are. Should anyone be so blind as to miss the last chance exit, there is a check-point where the “iqama” must be produced, which is an identity document containing both an unflattering photo and a record of the bearer’s faith. Non-Moslems are escorted on to Infidel Avenue, lest they defile the purity of a site open to anyone until the Wahabi’s took more control of the manner in which faith is practiced in the heart of the Koran Belt.
A child in Saudi Arabia grows up knowing that other faiths are so vile that the mere practice of one deserves a separation of the head from the shoulders---in public, in front of the kids if Moms and Dad thinks such a sight appropriate---on Friday after “prayers”.
Now many of you---if you believe what I write here---might still be of the view that Saudi’s are all so sophisticated that they can separate the obvious need to slaughter anyone who dares practice an abomination within the artificial borders of a great swathe of desert sand, from a complete and total understanding and acceptance of freedom of religion everywhere else in the world, but the sad fact is that some Saudi’s do slip through the cracks and think Saudi rules should apply Universe wide. After all, anything less would imply Allah is not Akbar after all, and that is simply not acceptable.
Now a truly Akbar Allah, even just a mildly kabir one, could take care of the infidels all by himself if he----woops---HE so chose, but there are a large number of HIS followers who take it upon themselves to “do Allah’s work” ©. Sometimes such folks are dyed in the wool (or camel hair) Wahabi types from the more deserty desert near Riyadh, while some are simply products of the Saudi school (madrassa) system. Some are even neer-do-well sons of rich construction magnates whose numerous wives popped out forty or so boys carrying a diluted version of the family genes---genes honed in another desert called the Hadhramaut in what is now a part of the united Yemen.
Now for those of you who think al Qaeda does not exist or that it is a construct of the CIA/NSA/Bilderbergers/McDonald Hamburgers/Rothchilds/Roth IRA’s, might I suggest a nice visit to Riyadh, or Waziristan. Ask a Christian in sort-of neighboring Pakistan how kindly the majority Moslems treat them. If you are a person of faith, point out to these truly understanding Moslems how important and fair freedom of religion is. No doubt they will welcome you with open arms in the true spirit of International Brotherhood, as opposed to the Ikhwan al Muslimeen, or Moslem Brotherhood (Egypt holds the trademark on that).
Go to a potluck dinner held by the old shebabs down at the Mutawwa (Committee for the Preservation of Virtue and the Elimination of Vice). Even put on your best anti-Zionist schtick, if that is your thing. Carry a copy of The Protocols and have a snapshot of Henry Ford in your wallet. See if that cuts you any slack and overcomes your infidel-ness.
If you take this whirlwind tour, and can prove upon your return that your head is still firmly attached to your shoulders and your skin to its bones and muscles, I’ll pay for the trip. Of course to abide by the rules of the game, you must be adamant that all those folks adopt your view of freedom of religion---not your religion, just the freedom to choose. I’m sure the Gideons would lend a helping hand.
Enjoy the goat-grab. It’s actually quite tasty, and that apple juice goes with it better than a fine Barolo.
Chindit13,
Although artful and well-written, this sort of fact-based, sane polemic does not sit well with the “Truther” wackos, the anti-Semites, the “blame America first” crowd, and the other assorted kookburgers and illiterates who infest the Comments section (and to a lesser degree, the Contributors section).
Your initial indiscretion of reading the comments is then compounded by the expectations of sanity to be contained therein. These areas are strictly for entertainment purposes, much like Jim Cramer.
(You all ‘should probably read that again, so it can sink in‘…)
WTF Chindit, are you all butt hurt you couldn't get in to see the Kaaba? While you're squirming in your pew over religious inequities in the middle east, remember, the Muslims aren't in control in DC or Wall Street, just your fellow Christians and Jews, looting the whole fucking country whilst you turn the other cheek.
Will a Church or a synagogue in Saudi Arabia get the value of your goddamned house back? Or your retirement? Will it put balls or a spine on your congressman to not be on the take?
You want to have a raging hard-on for Muslims, knock yourself out. We both know the ONLY thing that will make Christians happy is when the Muslims come to Jesus, everything else is bullshit.
But while you're foaming at the mouth, you're getting done by your own.
You really should work on your priorities.
And no, I didn't junk you.
Wow, did you make some unfounded assumptions.
First, I am of no faith. That many or most people find solace in religion is fine, provided nobody imposes his own beliefs on anyone else, and allows all to practice whatever non-destructive faith they wish, or none at all as the case may be.
That being said, I happen to quite enjoy the company of non-fanatic Moslems, who I have found to be among the most generous and warm people I know. Many are as saddened at what has become of their faith---at least the outside world’s view of that faith---as we are of what has happened to our country. They are as helpless changing the minds and actions of ObL et al as we are in changing the minds and actions of the Fed, banking lobby, Geithner, etc.
I wrote my comment because the groupthink of this site---at least amongst those who comment---tends toward a Jewish conspiracy for everything and that the absolute only people on this Earth capable of violence against their fellows are USGovernment types and Jews. Apparently everybody else is the damn salt of the Earth. That just isn't so, as any reasonable, open-eyed, or well-traveled person would know. I also wrote because the country that produced 15 of 19 of the hijackers not only tolerates, but actively promotes a system that inculcates hatred and contempt for opposing faiths and/or the non-superstitious, and legitimizes it with the "truth" supposedly spouted by their own god. There is no place in this world for such nonsense.
I definitely am of the belief that the US faces real and potentially devastating problems, some of which may have no solution save for time and a reset. I think that to cloud the real issues with fantasies and conspiracies---especially by those who have little or no real world experience---is a disservice to all. That is my opinion, which is obviously in the vocal minority around here.
Oh, and I don't give a shit if home values ever rise again; in fact, it would be better for the country if we once and forever disabused ourselves of the notion that a home equals savings.
Thank you very much for your comments. I'm quite agnostic about the current slant of ZH comments, the direction of world affairs, and the "roots" of the economic problems. Not having the world view of an extensive traveler, I depend upon those of others. I try to take each view with the proverbial grain of salt. Your contrarian view to what you consider a general ZH "consensus" is appreciated.
[How come "contrarian" does not pass spell-check?]
I merely responded to your comment - no assumptions needed. And I don't buy "groupthink" as the impetus.
You are going to find that right here in the US and you won't have to look very hard to find it. Go ahead and vent your spleen, but we've got bigger fish to fry.
Of course one can find it in the US; in fact, some of the Christian Right is not far behind the extreme elements of Islam in their level of intolerance and certainty of their beliefs. They just haven't gone major league yet.
This article was about the recent incident originating out of Yemen, thus my comment related to that and the reaction to it in the comment section, rather than going into a discussion of the financial and political problems facing the US. There are plenty of articles on ZH dealing with those other issues.
And you honestly think for a minute the events out of Yemen are not related to "the financial and political problems facing the US"?
It is none of my concern which religion you (or any anyone else) like or dislike, to whom or what you pray, until my (your) right to do the same is infringed.
It is easier to hate, dehumanize and make war on those that are different and it is especially helpful when said difference is empirical. And it is certainly easier than coming to terms with the fact that your own government is as wretched and corrupt as those it loves to villify. It is your government and it's puppetmaster that hates you for your freedoms, what few you have left.
You can't change Islam, but you sure as hell can do something about the SOBs in DC.
"And you honestly think for a minute the events out of Yemen are not related to "the financial and political problems facing the US"?"
More than a minute. The whole weekend in fact. Might the pols play it up for electoral gain? Sure. Do I believe it is a false flag? No. I am not a member of the Alarm Clock Brigade ('wake the fuck up!'), nor a believer in the grand puppetmaster theory of world events. Too goddamn many variables for anyone or any group to control, too many opposing desires and goals, and simply because nobody is that smart. The conspiratorialists would find my beliefs naive; I return the compliment and happen to find that crowd naive.
Most of what ails us is an open book, whether its cronyism, political lobbying or simple incompetence. The conspiracies fail because they would require a degree of expertise and competence far above what any human has ever exhibited, plus most make little real sense (though that never discourages anyone from jumping aboard).
We are all entitled to our opinions.
I have to agree with that.
Perhaps. Opportunity is an interesting catalyst and it scales.
Naive, based on your prior posts, is not the word I would have chosen.
I'll take difference of opinion over sycophant any day.
THIS THIS THIS
The pathetic Herp a derp Crusaders are only trying to distract you. You have to one hell of a shameless pussy to actually buy into this terrorist shit in the U.S.
"Sometimes I feel like Diogenes, albeit I am looking for a sane man (or woman). They are becoming increasingly hard to find. I am hopeful that one may exist in the form of nmewn. There may be others, and even a silent majority."
I understand chin.
I believe there are many more but I doubt a majority. I had felt for a long time you would be compelled, by your own conscious, to speak of your real world experiences there. Out of respect for your personal affairs I would never put you on the spot one way or the other as I have no idea of your friends and family who may still be there and know your id...thus you.
Like you, I don't hate the people who follow the religion. But, perhaps unlike you, I am beginning to hate the religion itself.
Now I know the apologists for Islam, the anti-semites/anti-zionist, hate America/western culture first crowd etc. will have a field day with the second part of that statement so I suppose I should explain my position to them and for what may be a "silent majority" who feel something is not quite right with it but can't place a finger on it.
I have found no other religion on earth where the religion itself is married to a system of governance so completely by it's very design.
Where most of the worlds governments (therefore us, the people of the world) try, with varying degrees of success, to have the concept of separation of church and state the text of Islam promotes the marriage of the two. This would be the sharia law component of Islam.
Where most governments take the position that the individuals relationship with their God is best left to the individual, as it is the individuals soul that is on the line at the end of it all not a soulless government's...LOL...sharia law marrys Islam (a religion) with government.
For example, the jyzya is a tax levied on infidels (infidels meaning anyone who does not practice Islam) which is found at Quran 9:29.
Another disturbing aspect of the "religion" is taqiyya & kitman, Quran 2:225 and elsewhere, where deceit and lying are permissible to non-believers to advance the "greater good" of Islam or it's followers and by extension the government. Here we see an outsider can't even be sure of the timeless honor of open, honest discussion with a practitioner of Islam as it's holy book permits them to lie to you.
Then of course there is the treatment of women and their second class status. Fine if your a guy like us but a little rough on the ladies. My culture forbids this notion. For me, they are to be protected, admired, cherished, not brutalized. If not for their softening influence on the cold calculating nature of men there is no telling where we would be ;-)
There are also great things about the people themselves. Sanctuary requests, hard money etc. but on the whole it is hard to reconcile the obvious flaws of the religion with the peace it supposedly promotes.
Of course then we get to the hierarchy of it all, where we have essentially just another caste system in place in Saudi Arabia where the kings & princes enrich themselves disproportionally over the subjects...which is conveniently overlooked by the apologists.
One of the problems, speaking for myself, is getting people to look at the totality of it without equalizing our value system on it. It can't be done. Their value system does not equate to ours by it's nature.
For example, where we have government institutions that will lie and abrogate treaty's at will among men & nations (as with the Indians or even the peoples contract with their government...the Constitution) it's a given that with a system that marries both government & religion together is infinitely worse as it takes the moral component completely out of it under the guise of a faith based belief system being always correct because government decreed it.
If we are to have corruption in one or the other I prefer to keep it on the terra firma side of the ledger and leave the hereafter to my God.
Somebody wake me up when the 9th season of 24 about this whole mess will be airing. Hope Jack Bauer is up to the task of uncovering a false-flag operation.
