Obama's Advice To Those Complaining About Surging Gas Prices: Suck It In And Cope

Tyler Durden's picture

As gasoline prices continue to surge day after day (and with WTI touching $109 today this will continue for a long time), the peasantry is getting restless. Not only that but it is getting nosy. In fact today some plebs had the temerity to seek answers from the teleprompter over the festering question of just how long will Bernanke, pardon, UK stagflation, pardon, default Portugal, pardon, healthy worldwide demand keep pushing gas prices to $4, then $5, then $6, and eventually to the price paid in Europe: about $9. The response was straight out of Charlie Munger's (non-frontrunning) playbook: "I'm just going to be honest with you. There's not much we can do next week or two weeks from now," the president told workers at a wind turbine plant (one operated by Spanish company Gamesa). "Gas prices? They're going to still fluctuate until we can start making
these broader changes, and that's going to take a couple of years to
have serious effect." And we doubt Obama's hard core union electorate will be happy at the following stab at Channel Stuffing Motors: "If you're complaining about the price of gas and you're only getting 8
miles a gallon, you know," Obama said laughingly. "You might want to
think about a trade-in.
" Let's hope the people don't get the same idea about the presidential office two years from now, even after the $1 billion spent on TV ads. As to the core question, we were surprised Bill Dudley was not present at Obama's side explaining how deluded complainers should just have a chilled glass of unleaded 98 Octane with their main course of deflationary iPad 2.

More from AP:

The president spoke at a town hall meeting at Gamesa Technology Corp., a Spanish company that makes giant turbines that use wind to generate electricity. According to the White House, it is the first overseas company of its kind to set up shop in the U.S.

Back in Washington, negotiations continued on a budget deal to avert a government shutdown Friday and Obama urged lawmakers to get it done. The president said he wants to cut spending, but not at the expense of cutting priorities like energy and education.

As fuel prices rise because of growing demand worldwide and political
unrest in oil-producing nations in North Africa and the Middle East,
drivers are feeling pinched at the pump. Republicans blame Obama and his
policies and he, in turn, is striving to show the public that he gets
it.

In the meantime, if the middle class repeats "Inflation is transitory" three times while starting in the mirror, a genocidal Chairsatan will appear behind it and slice its throat.

Gasoline prices rose another 2 cents Tuesday to a new national average
of just over $3.68 a gallon, according to AAA and other sources. Obama's
visit to Gamesa was his fourth energy event since March 11. He's
scheduled a fifth for Friday in Indianapolis.

It's not all bad news. By the looks of things, er, promises, the gas situation will normalize... some time in 2025.

Obama said he wants to move toward "a future where America is less
dependent on foreign oil, more reliant on clean energy produced by
workers like you." That will happen by reducing oil imports, tapping
domestic energy sources and shifting the nation to renewable and less
polluting sources of energy, such as wind, the president says. He has
set a goal of reducing oil imports by one-third by 2025.

And following tomorrow's ECB hike, and following Europe's subsequent economic deterioration, the only bank that continues to be uber-loose will be stuck in that mode as it seeks to remain the "dynamo" of ponzi growth, meaning Obama voters who complain about gas prices at $3.70 will soon have even more fun complaining when the gas price ends being an anagram of those three numbers in a a year or so.

Problem:

Skyrocketing gas prices pissing off the proles.

Solution:

1.  Cash for Hybrids

2.  Gas Stamps

3.  Stimulus Check No. 2

4.  Reverse POMO's to crash oil stocks to inflict the maximum amount of pain upon "greedy" management and stockholders

5.  Print infinite amounts of "Short spot crude at market" order tickets and unleash a tsunami of shorts on all the commodity exchanges.  Backwardation be damned.

6.  All of the above.

.............................

See how all problems can be fixed by operating the printing presses at the Fed?

Please excuse me bob_d, for jumping on your comment, but after reading it I said to myself, "hey bob, lighten up!" It was a good joke, and worth a smile, especially positioned where it is.

(btw, I do appreciate your comments, and the energy you give to this forum)

That bitch-fest above was about the most intense I've seen here!

Some guy posted a while ago about something his ex-CIA father told him. I believe the quote was,

"He who complains has already lost"

Great advice!

Negativity is a waste of time and energy -- very counterproductive to being your best.

Negative emotions, which I seemed to detect in the preceding slugfest, are an illusion.

There seems to be enough shit already out there. Keep fighting if you want, but somebody needs to point out the uselessness of all that "stuff" above.

And, what a joke, does anybody who was not involved in the above dog fight even try to read those long rants delivered one word per line! WTF?

I don't know about my American cousins, but here in Canada, about 40% of the price of gas is taxes.

I don't know how to determine the true market value of gas, because there are so many controls, taxes and players who affect the price. Has it been artificially cheap for a long time? I don't have the skills to determine that.

What I do know, is that the principle of substitution isn't possible for consumers of gas, because we've been given few alternatives to sprawl as living choices for so long. For many, there is no choice but to drive long distances to make a living.

I hope this really pisses someone off, but I hope gas does go to $9/gal, its getting hard to find an empty run at my favorite river - the higher the price of gas, the less the competition and hell, if Obama wants me to do a commercial touting higher gas prices, I would - for a fee - a really large fee.

Gimp -

You fuckin' nailed it, simple as that.

If you look here in the US states that have generous welfare programs have the highest gas prices. It's a 100% correlation. I will bring up 3 States that I have intimate ties to to elucidate this.

I recently left California because I thought the taxes were ridiculous. When Jerry Brown got elected that was the final nail. The area in California I left (San Diego) the price for regular gas is as high as $4.70 http://sandiegogasprices.com/ and you can only imagine what property taxes and everything else are. I don't have to explain that California is a welfare friendly state but what people don't get is that welfare isn't free. Everyone pays for it one way or another.

Another is Connecticut. You have a very affluent area of CT (Fairfield County) and than you have heavy populated urban areas like New Haven/Hartford dominated by welfare babies. The property taxes in CT are sickening, it's ridiculous. The price of gas there is about the same pound-for-pound as it is in California (maybe a little higher in CT) Also, cigs in CT are like $8, or $9 bucks. The state of Connecticut is a very welfare friendly state.

The state that I moved to which I won't name (mid-atlantic coastal region) is not considered welfare friendly. There are nowhere near as many welfare programs. Also, state employees unionizing is against the law in my state. Where I live gas is about $3.50 (a dollar cheaper) and Cigs are about $4-5 dollars cheaper. The property taxes are very low...for a $1,000,000 home the difference in property taxes is about $20,000-$25,000 cheaper a year. What can you do with an extra $20,000-$25,000 over 5 years? You could buy a pretty nice $100,000 dollar boat, and with the lower cost of living, live in a house twice/thrice the size for the same price on the water with a dock for your new boat.

So you are absolutely right. The cost of living/quality of life is directly associated with how many degenerates your legislature has elected to support on your behalf.

*It should also be noted*

Welfare/union loving states are all broke and need to cut public services.

States that aren't, are healthy, and some have even grown.

Paul Ryan the new poster boy of "fiscal responsibility"- a great example of the mind set of the French Aristocrats and Royalty just before the French Revolution.

If history has value it is to learn from past mistakes; in the case of the French Aristocrats and Royalty the guillotine solved the problem.

Gross Wealth disparity can not be contained.

Did you know that our Workforce is about the same size as it was in January of 2002 even though our population has grown? Wages are at best stagnant and costs are going up. 70% of our GDP is consumer spending; where will spending come from? Clearly money spent on imported manufactured goods and energy does little for our economy.

Our unemployment rate is grossly understated do to the large number of discouraged workers who are no longer counted as unemployed. There are far more people looking for work then available jobs; people who are clearly not saving for retirement as Paul Ryan attempts to pull the rug out form under them.

http://data.bls.gov/pdq/SurveyOutputServlet?request_action=wh&graph_name...

By creating tax incentives to export manufacturing jobs and replace them with lower paying service jobs we have in fact created a plan to dispose of millions of inconvenient Fellow Americans.

70% of our GDP is Consumer Spending and we seem to be spending on foreign produced manufactured goods and energy.

For our economy to improve we need to put millions to work and Jobs is not a priority of our leaders in Washington.

I assure you, Obama is perfectly giddy about the surge in Oil prices. Perfect excuse for his neo-fascist green energy revolution.

A german rancher just outside of town was out inspecting his herd and he sees some dumb shit dude drinking straight out of a stock dam that the cows dump in regular like and its full of shit.  He is alarmed and shouts in German "STOP Drinking..that water is full of shit."  The dude stands up and says "Hey I'm from Washington DC out here to inspect the ranches out here. Can you  please speak in English?".. Sure..."Cup your hands to scoop out the water,  you will get more faster."

Bankster whore Nero OhBummer tells his constituents that until his bankster genocide plans are implemented, to trade in your Escalade for a Prius, if Toyota has UPS logistics of course. (and if you have a job, or the credit, to buy ANY car that doesn't have 100k+ miles...which if is your situation, narrows your list even more for 100K+ cars that have 35+ mpgs.)

There's plenty to be done.  Don't have to cut. Don't have to print.  Just cancel the frauds. As for Nero. (or any of the other sides spouted in the MSM)

No Glass-Steagall

No NAWAPA

No space program [manned....literally]

Yes hope for a change in gas prices about 9 years after 'his presumed' 2nd term ends.

Couldn't he of come up with something better....like, "you think 3.70/gallon is tough, just wait until Ramen is ten bucks a brick"...without flavoring pack...or new re-sized for inflation at 1/10th the size...after all it's got sodium...so less is good for you.  What will NY restaurants serve when this is the only food people can't afford?  Where will Obama or anyone else get their votes from? Will 1 billion even buy 1 ad?

Which also begs the question, since the endgame hasn't happened just yet, wouldn't you think he could create a 24 hour Obama channel for that much and just spew propaganda directly (don't worry the other side[s] would create one too) 24 hours a day.  700 Trillion Club with Ben Bernanke.  Hyperinflation Kitchen with Tim Geithner.  Live With Steven and Kathleen Sebelius, Judge Holder, (Losing it's value) Fast Money with Mary Schapiro (right before Midget Porn Stars), Is Our Children Learning Hour with Arnie Dunc(e)an,  Japanese Pickers with Thomas J. Vil[No]sack,  60 Minutes avoiding the unemployed [a reality show] with Hilda Solis, Dancing with Satan (Bernanke double dips....he has the time..just hit print), American Golden Idol with Gary Locke, Degraded Road Truckers with Ray LaHood, F.E.D.S. with Janet Napolitano, Where in the World is a Polar Bear with Lisa Jackson, Ow My Balls with Ronald Kirk, Extreme Takeover with Susan Rice, Nuts with Paul Krugman  and of course Hillary! Everyone out in the hinterlands, and I suspect inside the Beltway, knows the deep, deep long-lasting, eternal ties between Big Oil and the Republicans and the House of Saud. Nobody is really going to connect Obama with the oil industry. Think Bush, Cheney, and the top five of the Bush administration--Rumsfeld, Rice, the others--all had Big Oil interests. Even during the Gulf Oil spill the chain of command was BP to Tony Hayward, to the Rothschilds family.

This was a site for discussing financial matters and how political events affect said matters, but nowadays it is a site for dimwits who believe themselves intelligent to spew mediocre, watered down shit they've heard 100x before.

Tyler, of course, supports this, because it brings in massive revenue from ads. ZH has sold out, like everything else. The survival rate . . .

I could quite easily say the same to you in regards to your complaint about the avatar sizes: "if you don't like ZH (and its restriction on avatar sizes), you are free to leave!"

The need to be softer on you is strong . . . I was raised as a gentleman, and thus, am extremely sexist (for example, I open all doors for women, but don't give a shit about doors / men). As such, I won't rip on you as I rip on the male commentators of this blog who reveal weaknesses.

Instead, I will simply point out that the entries by this blog are still informative, although the comments have definitely ceased to be so.

By the way, I love your green eyes.

And for those who say this President is bad, what would McCain done different ?

Now at the expense of ruining all the "brilliant" political flaming if we look at the facts what we see is the kleptocracy has gone unchecked under Presidents from both parties. But what is really surprising is while the kleptocrats have doubled down on their stealing of people's money. No matter who is power the average Joe is getting screwed. And yet the people are all caught up on why they hate the other party.

"Note: much of the shale "oil" in other western states is not actually oil. It is kerogen, an organic precursor to oil, in effect organic polymers that have not been subjected to enough heat and pressure to turn into oil. If you want to turn it into oil, you have to cook it - which takes energy! That's after the mining operation to scoop it out of the ground. That takes energy too. Or, you can send machinery into the ground and cook it in place. That takes energy, too. We are not going to get oil out of there anytime soon - and perhaps never.

The "drill drill drill" gang is under the impression that North America has vast unexplored regions where oil is just begging to be discovered. This is not true. The New York Times reported after Obama's speech - in a disgracefully dumb story by Clifford Krauss - that the eastern Gulf of Mexico and Atlantic Coast contain 3.8 billion barrels of oil. Really? Hello! The US uses over 7 billion barrels of oil every year. Does the Arctic National Wildlife refuge contain between 4 and 11 billion barrels (US gov estimate)?  Great, that averages out to about a year or so of US supply. And I'm not even against drilling there, only against the idea that it represents a meaningful "solution" to our problem." http://kunstler.com/blog/2011/04/blowing-green-smoke.html

The likes of Geithner, Bernanke and Obama are paid very well to look the other way while the banksters and the rich corporations rob the taxpayers of each and every dollar they spend or save. They do so by inflating the prices of things they consume and selling them toxic assets leaving the rest of the population helpless, starving and broke for their foreseeable future.

The politicians around the world are nothing more than auction items which can be sold to the highest bidder. They will do whatever they can for the lobbyist paying them the maximum amount of money or votes, be it the unions, the banksters, the richest corporations or individuals. They are in the power seat to extract maximum advantage for themselves in the small time frame they occupy the seat of power.

The rest of the population is least of their concerns. The only activity they do is pacify the majority of the population using false statistics and promises of a better future so that they do not lynch them and their masters while they are robbing the taxpayers.

All these "discussions" are now useless and worthless. Any further discussion of oil prices only deepens your guilt of sin of oil idolatry before The Creator.

It seems to be a common fantasy on here that Obama is some sort of puppet of capitalism.  He isn't.  Obama is a hard-left socialist who despises capitalism.  He intends to nationalise even greater swathes of the economy - starting with healthcare.  His plan in his next white house stint - which he will win by default - is to crush freedom of speech - the whole purpose of Cass Sunstein's 'wikileaks' exercise, which so many mugs fell for, zerohedge included.  zerohedge will not be able to exist anymore under sunstein's proposals. he wants to turn the US into a giant socialist cog in the new global socialist order - no nation statehood anymore, capitalism crushed, one homogenous 'culture' - multiculturalism, after all, says "our core belief is that we have no core beliefs.  we believe in nothing.  nothing is definitive." that's his utopian dream.  and like all socialists, he's a secularist - with no religion (please spare me the posturings), he doesn't believe in an after life, so he seeks to create heaven on earth.

Look forward to the new reign of tyranny in the US. If you think capitalism is a disgrace, you ain't seen nothing yet...you'll be begging on your knees for Goldman Sachs to come back.

Obama is not a puppet of capitalism if you mean free market capitalism. He is a puppet of the capitalists, which is to say the elite of international finance, who have absolutely no interest in free market capitalism. Competition is anathema to those already at the top of the heap; far better to use the coercive power of the government (what you calling socialism) to enrich yourselves and maintain the status quo. Socialism as imagined by intellectuals on the left is a phantom. It was always, in all cases, from before Marx even, a ploy by the ruling class to gain more control over the masses, and moreover to gain their acceptance of that control. And people actually believed that there was a dictatorship OF the proletariat, as opposed to a dictatorship OVER the proletariat? Yes, they did, and that's why it works.

There is nothing partisan is the article, i.e. partisan for/against a political party. Maniac Researcher, you stated that there is an "ironic correlation between hard-core libertarianism and the banksters..." What is that correlation? I take it that you are referring to the GOP version of the Tea Party as libertarian, which is not a partisan comment but a stupid one, and then rightly noting the connection between the establishment and those 'libertarians.' They voted for a slogan and are disappointed the slogan didn't come through on it's promises. They voted for a guy who said he wasn't ready to be President and then said that his campaign experience gave him more Executive credentials than the governor of a state. I don't even pity these fools for buying into the hype, the MSM did a wonderful job of brainwashing the masses and they padded their pockets to the tune of a couple billion of our dollars, freely given in the hope that the candidate recipient would have a chance of changing DC in a meaningful way. But never fear, the money and ear bending by lobbyists is/was far more effective and so nothing has changed. Future? If there is one for the US I'm not seeing it...

The problem with subjugation, especially in the circles of brainwashed green enthusiasts, is you have incompetent fools dictating to others how they should behave, act, and believe. Fuck you global warming CO2 is a pollutant lying green bitchez....

If the price in the US goes to $9 then the European price will increase commensurately. Sweden for example has $3.25 tax per gallon plus 25% VAT on the total amount (charge VAT on the tax!). So for sake of simplicitly let's assume the pre-tax price in the future is $8 (equals ~$9 retail in the US). Then the Swedes will pay $11.25 plus 25%, which equals $14. I guess, per centagewise the difference is reduced . When gasoline was very cheap 10-11 years ago then the Swedish price was about 4X the US price. But I would also bet that the Europeans will increase the taxes if the price goes up.

And it amazes me that in the US they pull the oil companies into committee and rail on them for making too much money at margins of 10% or so. But the same companies are essentially paying 100's of Billions to governments in taxes that everyone seems to want to ignore. I'm not saying that Big Oil is pristine but the governments have their hands out for every nickel they can get. If we were paying the taxes the Swedes do at this time we would have $7 a gallon gas and this country would be losing it's collective mind. But then that tax money would probably be used for SPAS(Supplement Petroleum Assistance System)...

Man has a point. Any douche driving a Land Rover Crackbaron and moaning about gas prices should STFU or acquire a bike.
