Oil Is Now Leaking In Sea Near Fukushima

Tyler Durden's picture

Just because mega-radioactive water leakage was not enough. From Xinhua: "Operator of the troubled Fukushima No. 1 nuclear power plant found that oil has been leaking into the sea close to the facility, the Kyodo News reported Tuesday. The operator Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) said the oil leaks were possibly from nearby oil tanks that may have been damaged in the March earthquake and tsunami, and it would set up oil fences to prevent the liquid from pouring into the Pacific Ocean." Oh, but they only discovered this now? Odd how it took nearly 3 months for those oil tanks to rupture and start spilling into the water. So in other words, not only is Godzilla coming, he will be more greased up than the Situation.

More:

The oil leaks were found at 8 a.m. by TEPCO workers. Tokyo Electric suspects that the oil may have leaked from tanks located near the water intake for the Nos. 5 and 6 reactors or pipes that deliver the oil, because the March 11 disaster took place when a tanker was supplying oil, according to the Kyodo report.

Don't worry though, Japan says it is all good;

The leakage was reported to have remained within the breakwater. The Japanese Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency spokesman Hidehiko Nishiyama said the leaks' impact on areas outside the breakwater is likely to be "extremely limited" so far.

Phew, and to think we were worred for a second that Japanese sushi would soon be coated in tar and radioactive feathers.

Oil Drinker first was seen attacking an oil refinery, drinking all of the oil. As the ZAT attcked him, they realized that he was the last known Chouju. Howeveer, a bigger monster, Astromons began to battle Oil Drinker."

Perhaps it is an attempt to lure Oil Drinker into eating up all the radioactive waste in a fit of binge oil consumption...

As AR15 demonstrates, the MSM is downplaying the issue.    Like everything else involving this disaster, we won't be told the truth until months down the road so that some can digest the fact that the world is going down the tubes while the overlords play their mind games with such success.    After all, it worked with announcing the reactors lost containment within 24-48 hours after the quake and they knew it all along but played dumb so as to not scare the shepple.

Nothing to see here, move along, move along

Yup, big oil discovery. I'll bet that's 50 barrels/day they can burn, added to their 4.4 million bpd of consumption (which was the number BEFORE the 0.5 miles/gallon bulldozers started pushing debris to and fro).

That was my take on it too.  Look at a few thousand gallons of oil and forget about the petabequerels of radioactive water about to get added to the terabequerels already released.

They've got the "mega-float" on site so there's another ten thousand tonnes of storage capacity ready, but with all the pumping they've done so far, water levels are rising faster than they're pumping.  The rain from the remnants of the cyclone will probably start the overflow into the sea.

The water is making some necessary work impossible and they're no closer to controlling it than they were at the beginning.

I do believe that this is the first report of non radioactive contamination in japan as a result of the earthquake/tsunami. Anywhere in Japan.

The amount of oil/gas/chemicals/and general crud released into the environment by the zillion cars/refineries/factories/buildings/houses in the path of the water must make the resulting ruins all along the coast a cesspool of poison, radiation aside.

Yet, up to now, I've yet to see a single report in the media mentioning this. And I've been trying to keep up w/what's going on over there. Simply amazing.

For example, there’s now a flotsam island some 70 miles long floating out into the Pacific, made up of houses, and plastics, bodies and cars, polluting as it goes, and creating dangerous hazards in the shipping lanes.  The U.S. Navy’s 7th fleet is keeping an eye on this latest mess, and describes that it covers more than 2.2 million square feet of ocean surface.

Congress briefing focusing on food safety (no mention of cucumbers...)

http://fpc.state.gov/documents/organization/161583.pdf

There's some patter out there over this, but at the moment, it all comes under the heading of "Well, if its radioactive, who gives a fuck if its also covered in oil".

p.s.

Yes, I'm aware the first link goes to Suna Wong's school project. Suna, whoever she is, is a better thinker than 99% of the MSM, for which she should garner a scholarship. Here's hoping she got an A+.

In a truely epic piece of irony, Suna's teacher is a trans-sexual warrior queen.

Olivia is often connected to the net from her PC-linux system, Sappho, which she named in honour of the world's first real poet [you meant Lesbian]. She serves her TStar service to the web from her systems, transsexy [!] and Boadicea [Yeah, yeah, we get it already Bob], named in honour of the great Queen of the Iceni Celts.   Now having purchased a laptop for travelling light and fast, she has named it in honour of Phoolan Devi, India's Bandit Queen [treated awefully by men until she snapped & gave the shit back].

I love the web! Suna, don't worry, yes, your teacher does have an adam's apple.

General Electric circa 1972. I am sure someone will say that GE just designed it, TEPCO built it etc.

GE also built the Monticello nuke plant in Monticello, MN back in 1972. Same design even. Same fuel rods in a tank above the reactor. Built on the Minnesota River though so not as bad as on the Pacific Ocean, unless you live down river on the Mississippi.

I built tanks for 25yrs, my guess is the floor cracked and the oil started seeping. the oil will follow the path of least resistance. and it is so thick it took awhile to make its way to the water. I built water tanks and it would sometimes take awhile for the water to start showing up if a tank was leaking and it has a lot less viscosity than oil.

Yesterday there was a small message on TV in holland that there was a small problem cooling the nr5 reactor. Temperature was up to 100 degrees C (boiling) due to several hours of non-cooling but the situation got under control and live goes on happily. Message means that there is an effort not reaching steam production because the turbines are not working or at least having a problem getting electricity to the grid.
